We really didn't know what to expect - but I'm so glad I found this park after reading the Yelp reviews!
It's a great spot for dogs. The grass is super green and the view is amazing. There's a pathway you walk to get to the beach. The trail is somewhat steep, so if you have shoes, you should wear them - unless you feel really confident in climbing up/down steep trails in sandals. The beach is pretty big and the waves are awesome.
If you have time, I would definitely reccomend checking out this place. It's worth the drive. Best kept secret so far (; -

THIS SO CALLED "SECRET DOG BEACH" IS RIPE WITH UN-MANAGED NEGLIGENCE AND DISRESPECTFUL BEACH GOERS. CALLING ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO HELP SAVE OUR SHORES.
I'm writing as a voice for the large group of people that can no longer stand aside and watch this beautiful piece of coast turned into a doggy playground.
This so-called "secret beach" has been graced by local families and nature lovers for century's, pre - Trump Golf course, pre- online reviews and most definitely without an illegal dog beach.
This beach is out of control ! Not uncommon to count hundreds of people with off leash dogs, most of which are let loose to do as they please, not only is the chaotic energy enough to spin any quite nature time out the window, we now have to deal with human and dog feces all over this natural preserve, as well as a healthy dose of trash left to make it's way into the sea. A real safety hazard and concern when thinking of beach goers, children and fellow marine life surrounding the area.
It's not uncommon to see dog walker frequent the beach with 6-10 dogs for 1 person. Not sure why the city council has not made a ruling as of yet, considering all other beaches in LA County are dog free. Who manages this area? With no trash can, signs or regulation, it's open game for what ever visitors feel inspired to be involved in. It's understandable that dogs need time in nature, but this should come in the form of an enclosed dog park, not a sensitive stretch of pristine coastline. This is not a personal assault on anyone, this energy is being put forth to save and protect an amazing stretch of Californian coastline.
If you share my views please write our city council members at cc@rpv.com

Beaches like this are unusually raw/beautiful compared to the flat, regulated ones of Santa Monica. I love the rockiness and cliffs, bits of abalone and various stones, and little shallow pools in the shore...
There were a couple decaying sea lions (they have toenails in their fins!), one of which had its head stolen for the teeth. They smell awful, make sure your dog doesn't rub up against them, they seem to like doing that.

Unfortunately, because this park is open for dogs... we find doodoo all over the place (Ok, a bit exaggerating here... but u know what I mean). just make sure to watch where you walk...
we luv dogs... just irks us when owners r not responsible enough to pick up the poo (that comes with owning a dog!)... anyway, there's a lot of kids who likes to run around and play here...1 Previous Review: Show all »

I came here recently and was blown away by the breathtaking beauty of the ocean, the trees, and the landscape.
As you all know, I love writing poems and I wrote a few while I was here.
Enjoy my poems!

The Depths of the Human Heart

The Depths of the Human Heart
Are nearly impossible to find
I could contemplate about the depths of your heart
and wonder until the end of time
I will never really know what is in your heart
and if you only knew what is in mine.
Deep in my heart
There is an empty window
and in that window a candle is lit
in memory of the face I saw
when I looked out
And the face I saw
Deep in her heart
There is an empty window
and in that window a candle is lit
in memory of the face she saw
when she looked out
And the face she saw
Deep in his heart
There is an empty window
and in that window a candle is lit
in memory of the face he saw
when he looked out

Review from Hugo C.
I'm not a fan of dogs, or people who idolize their rat-sized dogs. However, I am a fan of this RPV dog park. It's not officially referred to as such, but as soon as 75% of park-goers come accompanied by their four-legged companions, it becomes a dog park in my book.
I real all the Yelp reviews that told me that the park is right next to the Trump National Golf Club, but I didn't realize I'd have to pull into the intersection and past the completely frou-frou Trump signage on the corner. The public parking lot for park patrons serves approximately 30 cars, but on the weekend that I went I had to park along the private Trump street with the rest of the schmucks (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).
Plenty of people set up their picnics on the cliff overlooking Catalina, but I was here for beach access. There seemed to be two routes to make it down to the beach, one to your general left and another to your general right. By following the paved path in either direction, you should be able to reach the bottom.
I took the path that snaked down the right side of the cliff and found it to be extremely steep. It's not too dangerous, but you have to make sure you're keeping an eye on where you step, avoiding small rocks that could easily spell trouble. I'd see this being a severe nuisance for small kids, the elderly, and small pets. Taking the trek back up this severe incline was not exactly my idea of a leisurely stroll at the park.
Once I reached the pebbly beach, I was greeted with several happy park-goers, and even more happy four-legged ankle biters (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Seeing as I'm not much of a dog person, I was there to try my hand at some amateur photography.
It was nice spending a Sunday afternoon out at Founder's park. -

BEWARE OF THIS "DOG FRIENDLY" BEACH!
I brought my dog down here not to long ago and I was surprised to see there were filthy, dead animal carcass' littered on the shoreline. My dog, attracted to the smell, rolled around in the carcass of a dead seal and contracted a disease which he recently passed away from.
This beach is not regulated and illegally operates as a "dog beach". I came to this beach because of YOUR "dog friendly" review I read online. But now I want to know who is responsible for my loss?! -

A great place to go to hiking, have a picnic, go for a jog, or just simply enjoy the vast oceanic views this cliffside park has to offer.
It has plenty of free parking and is located right next to the Trump National Golf Club.
The breathtaking views is definitely worth the trip there, also the Clubhouse for a meal. -

This is a great park. Not only does it have a nice ocean view, but its also right next to the trump golf course. you can even park right next to the clubhouse. (its public parking)
You can bring your dog. They even provide doggie bags. =)
In the park area right next to the clubhouse, the dog must be leashed. However, the beach is an off-leash beach. There's room for the dog to run and play in the water.
The only downside is the hike from the beach back to the car. Going to the beach is easy (its downhill), but the climb up is steep. I had to carry my Gidget most of the way.Listed in: Dog Friendly South Bay and LA

"Founder's Park" is at Trump National Golf Course. You park at the Gold Course-which has a public lot and follow all the people with their dogs...straight down the cliff. Walk towards the ocean and you will see the Beach Access Trails. I am not a fan of heights so I had some issues climbing down the trail and back up (which was a short workout).
You can have you dog off leash however, its sooooo Rocky...my little dog probably didn't love it as much as the bigger dogs. Pretty much the beach is populated by labs and goldens since they are water dogs...its cute to see them all out there swimming together.
its not really a beach to lay down and get a tan...its more of a place to bring your big dog to swim in the ocean.
I didn't give it a 5 star because it was so rocky and the steep trail. -

Others have already addressed the parking situation and the access trails. Just let it be known that the trail is steep, but not "get down on all-fours" steep. I managed it in flip flops just fine.
The beach is small pebbles so your water-loving dog won't get as sandy as she will at Long Beach or Huntington Beach dog beach. However, running or walking on it is pretty tough on human feet, and my dog's paws got pretty raw after an hour of running in and out the water playing fetch. It took her around 5 days to heal.
No worries though, we'll limit her boundless enthusiasm next time and make sure she isn't running herself ragged.
The surf is pretty significant at this beach. Large Labs and Pointers were exerting significant effort trying to swim back to the beach.
The parking situation is pretty clutch. Much much better than having to pay for parking at HB dog beach. The view and beach are more beautiful and cleaner than LB dog beach. Worth a trip. -

Just look at the photos, they say it all.
The blooming wild mustard plants have turned the hills of Palos Verdes a brilliant yellow. Today, against a clear blue sky, the sight was breathtaking.
This public park is on the grounds of Trump National Golf Club, and is open to everyone. There are acres of trails for walking & hiking, and there is beach access. The views are spectacular......and best of all, it is not crowded on weekdays, or at least it hasn't been any time I've been there.
There is a free parking lot for non-golfers who are visiting the park. You can even bring your dog.
The grounds of Trump National are lovely, elegantly landscaped with colorful flowers. Catalina Island is clearly visible, directly off shore. This is California at its most beautiful.
After you work up an appetite roaming the park, go to the clubhouse & have a burger or a dog at the burger bar. Or, as I did today, head for the restaurant.....my next review.
It's one of those days that makes me especially glad to be alive.Listed in: Parks & Scenic Spaces, Paths & Trails

Review from Bruce M.
Palos Verdes Estates, CA
There are two problems with the beach below Founders Park. The biggest problem is that it is illegal to have your dog off leash anywhere in Rancho Palos Verdes. The Sheriff's Dept. for LA County does and will give you a ticket. The dog park also tends to have a loot of larger dogs that don;t mix well with the smaller dogs. I have been leading an effort to get an off leash dog park built on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Rancho Palos Verdes is planning on two dog parks at Lower Hess Park and the Grandview Park in the Silver Spur area. Contact the council members of the RPV city council to show your support for a dog park on the Peninsula. Rolling Hills Estates is also considering a dog park at the former Palos Verdes Landfill site, so contact their city council members as well.

My dogs had never seen the ocean until I brought them here. My fiance found out about this beach from another dog owner and we decided to give it a try. My doggies were getting a little chunky, and a nice hike always does wonders for their figures. :)
We drove up to Trump and wondered, oh no, will they turn us away for driving in a Honda? Haha. But no, we just followed the signs to the public park parking and found a nice spot by the putting green. We walked along, looking for signs to beach access, and unfortunately, for my lonely pups, we were the only company they had that day. That was just fine for them because they had this new beautiful trail to sniff and mark and had a great time walking down the hill. We got to the pebbly beach and they walked around a bit before they decided to see what was up with the water. They got a little too close, were a little too slow, and got caught in a wave and a splash! A little bit scared, but fun all the same, and since we had the beach pretty much all to ourselves, being off leash, we were all relaxed that we didn't have to deal with anyone else out there! The setting is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. No wonder Donald picked that scenic spot. Thanks for keeping it public and we will all be making a visit again.
Tip: Bring water and food. There aren't any public water fountains down on the beach. Otherwise, your puppies will start drinking the ocean! -

only problem -- too many dogs. I HATE DOGS. -

Located on the Trump National Golf Club, this Park is open to the public for a short walk and a nice view of the Pacific. According to the plaque, this park was designated as a historical point of interest because of the Japanese American farmers who had farmed off of the hills of Palos Verdes.

I hesitate to write about this place, but since it is quite a trek for most people, why not? We owe our pet-sitter for showing us this hidden gem! My dogs love the beach, but Huntington Beach is just too far a drive and too packed, especially on the weekends. This is a much closer and more laid-back alternative. Yes the sand is very coarse and it's really a very rocky beach, but my dogs could care less. This is partly why it doesn't get so crowded, I imagine. There are 2 main trails from the golf course parking lot down to the beach - the one that goes off to the right is much steeper and definitely not for those with dogs who pull when they get excited. I can't even imagine trying to climb back up that trail! The one to the left takes longer but is much more manageable when you've got dogs and gear in tow. Pack a lunch and some cold water, and you're set for a few hours!

my grover loves this beach! he's free to romp around in the sand and chase all the other dogs. if only he'd go near the ocean water or come look in the tide pools with me...he's scared of the waves..
