Three words: TARO ICE CREAM.
Holy crap, I think I died and went to heaven. It's a satiny, creamy, lavender scoop of happiness, tasting sort of like vanilla and marshmallow creme (with a vague hint of coconut) blended together. Amazing!

These guys are badass!
As far as ice cream shops go. When I bought my Yaris in the summer of 2006, I was craving some ice cream, my best friend suggested this spot.
I had a cup of cookies and cream-double scoop-and proceeded to kill it!
The shop is pretty small, but the ice cream is pretty fresh. It doesn't taste like its been sitting in the freezer for ages.
I haven't been back, but since the summer is here, it might be time to revisit this joint. That is, if I have business in Alhambra. Alhambra is not one of my favorite towns. That's another story.
Fosselman's, you complete me.

Years ago, I had seen this on Huell Howser California's Gold on PBS. Well years later we are still writing about how great it is. It's not great "IT'S AMAZING!" like Huell says.
I could never get enough flavors in me. You must not be a wimp and try all the strange flavors. You just got to try everything here.
Can we say Lactose Intolerant ?
bring the Cream on!
I was surprised it was quiet (i.e. no line) on a hot summer night!
Not a bad thing for us, because I wasn't sure if I could wait any longer.
I was thinking of ordering something different, but I always ended up with the same thing.
Note to self: CASH ONLY, though it doesn't matter whether you're bringing a $1 or a $100 (and I found out I wasn't the only girl who couldn't count!)-- yet another surprise!

Great ice cream in a cute little shop.
I would give it another star except I think their employees might be a bunch of racists. A bunch of us were sitting on the stone bench outside of the store eating our ice cream after Fosselman's closed and locked their front door. They close at 10pm on Saturdays.
In the span of about half an hour, we saw several groups of people (a co-ed group of ethnically mixed friends, an Asian father with 2 little girls, a White woman with her son and his friend, an Asian couple, a Hispanic family) try to walk in only to find the door not budging. Disappointed, many looked at the hours posted and simply walked away. Some waited until one of the employees unlocked the door to let out those who were inside and tried to squeeze in. All were turned away except for the White lady with her kids.
WTF?
That's wrong.

De-lish! Love their Lychee flavour, and Chocolate Chip doesn't fall too far behind. Their ice cream is denser than other places, which I like. Not so airy and light, as some ice cream parlours.
Last had a root beer float; they still make floats the old fashioned way; syrup first and then soda after, so that you can adjust how sweet you want the float; the way it should be!
The setup of the parlour is old fashioned; plenty of seating and also old and new school sweets sold on the side. Service has always been friendly to me here.
A+!

This past weekend was swelteringly hot. So hot, just sitting in the shaded cool of my house left me drenched with sweat and incredibly sticky and uncomfortable. I tossed and turned at night. . .even with two fans on blowing toward me, I could not suffer through the unbearable heat any longer. . .
I had to go to Fosselman's. I got the strawberry sorbet this past Saturday. . .and the next day I got the non-fat frozen vanilla yogurt. . .both on a sugar cone. Yum. The strawberry sorbet was heaven . . .sweet and fresh, like eating plump red strawberries plucked just mere moments ago from the vine. It had a great consistency to it. . .not too icy or chunky. The frozen vanilla yogurt was great as well. . .creamy and cool against my mouth. . .it was the best feeling ever. It tasted like regular vanilla ice cream from other stores to me (except it did have that more pliable-type consistency that yogurt has).
My boyfriend got the mocha almond one the first night, and the second day opted for the raspberry sorbet. His mocha ice cream was like licking and eating frozen mocha. . .better than a frappucino and creamier than a stick of butter. His raspberry sorbet was fresh, clean and crisp tasting. Absolutely delicious. The sugar cones are kinda whatev.
I think I'm going to try the taro ice cream next time. . .or maybe chocolate dipped strawberries, or maybe lemon custard? Or hmmn, how about vanilla bean. . .oh wait, dutch chocolate?? I think I'll be coming back here soon. . .

Pretty impressive! Came here with some friends after dinner at nearby Boiling Crab. A delectable selection of ice creams; it was hard to decide. I tried a few flavors, but finally decided on banana walnut--yum! Tasted very fresh, with no annoying ice crystals and whatnot. Even their cake cone was freshly crisp, no disappointing staleness there. Another appeal to this place is its quaint old timey decor: the 70s interpretation of a 19th century ice cream parlor, with its faux wood paneling and olde timey fonts everywhere. It was cute and felt very homey, if a little outdated.
I was thinking of getting a quart to go for the hubby at home, but his favorite flavors were out: chocolate chip and cookies n creme. It was around 9pm, after all, so i imagine all the popular flavors are gone by then. Will definitely visit again if I'm in the area.

I've really enjoyed their ice cream during my numerous visits here after eating and shopping around the area. I've reviewed Scoops last week, and mentioned Fosselman's, and to me, this place is still a #2 compared to Scoops.
Fosselman's, however makes a bomb Taro Ice Cream. I think one time I had such a Taro craving, I went with 3 scoops of Taro, a bit too much I realized afterwards. The flavors I've tried are all pretty damn good. From lychee, to dolce de leche, it's all well made. This place is a definite must stop for these 100 degree days in the area. If you don't want to eat in and want to buy more than just 3 scoops, they do have a few selections in the fridge and you can have it packed, in pints, quarts, etc. 3 scoops for $5, not bad. Try it, I recommend it!
Ice cream is above average. It gets 2-stars for the unfriendly staff, esp. the older guys who seems to skimp on their $2.50 scoop. He stands there like a sculptor, whittling away at a decent sized scoop until it looks like a thimble. Total rip-off. Root Beer ice cream is excellent though

I have not found what everyone is talking about yet...I had the chocolate chip cookie dough and I thought it was ok. There are only 6 parking spots in their lot. Pleny of seats inside...definitely lots of flavors to choose from - but the people behind the counter did not seem too friendly. They also have a great selection of pre-packed ice cream but it just did not hit me...I guess I'll give it a try again someday if Baskin Robbins and my Dibs don't get in the way!

A true classic!
My wife and I went to Fosselman's on our first date!
Their ice cream is just plain good. There is no other way to put it.
Real chocolate malts too!
I'm a huge fan.
green tea ice cream is so good.. it's a light flavor.. also love their blueberry ice cream.. it tastes more like vanilla and blueberry combined. i've only been once. but i think about it all the time.
i'm in love. you will be in love too.

Whenever I go here, I feel like I'm in-the-know of something that's special but overlooked, so the specialness lasts. If you're wanting unadulterated, classic, pure, quality, true-blue American ice cream, Fosselman's delivers. The interior is unassuming and homey and perhaps how old-fashioned ice cream shops were back in the day, but I can't be too sure because I'm not a baby-boomer. I'm getting nostalgic just thinking of my visits to this place. I went there with a very special man.
Excellent, smooth texture, intense flavors. Buy it in quart size for $6.50, more economical than per scoop.
Everything's good here. Lychee is overrated. Avocado's not bad. I like the stuff that's not too sweet.
The root beer float is too expensive for being a root beer float.
You gotta love L.A. I'm sorry Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Paris, etc. I'm sure you all have really cool places that make you special -- in a short bus kinda way.
But this is L.A. and we got it ALL going on. And we have Fosselman's. Really good family-owned ice cream. And they have two kinds of coffee ice cream.

Love Fosselman's Ice Cream. I have been going here since I was a little kid and it still brings a smile to my face every time I go.
My favorite flavors are spumoni and cookie dough. There brownie a la mode is magic in a cup as well.
They are a family owned business, so support them!!
Fosselman's never lets me down when i'm in that ice cream mood! Its so close to where i live that its definately worth the walk there and enjoy some yummy cold ice cream!
I like to order ice cream birthday cakes here becuase of their wide variety of ice cream and the different combinations you can make!
The people here are always so friendly and the place is very cute. Its like stepping back into time when you walk in here. Its everything you can ask for, for a small ice cream parlor!
The parking is definately a pain and they only take cash. But that shouldn't stop you from dropping in and getting some great ice cream!
Hello this place is GREAT, 5 stars all the way....for the ice cream anyway... the people who work there...scandalous!!....That one guy behind the counter who wears glasses and is going bald...maybe Chris or John...Mr. Fosselman himself.... likes to eat all the stuff that people return..sick right?...I saw him with my own eyes... he even drank out of the same straw that the people returned their drink with...yuck...so can you imagine what he's doing to the ice cream in the back...but oh well... don't forget to buy your fosselman's t-shirts...$15 each all sizes...

I went to Fosselman's yesterday in search of the best ice cream that L.A. has to offer and I was not disappointed.
As soon as you walk in, you'll notice that the place hasn't changed much since the 50's but I really dug the charm of it! I got the banana walnut ice cream and it was fabulous! The ice cream is the perfect consistency and doesn't taste like a freezer or preservatives. It just tastes really fresh and creamy.
Be warned: THEY ONLY TAKE CASH!
This place is rad. I have been coming here all of my short life. Lately I have been digging their brownie sundae. They also have some great frozen drinks, and old fashion candies.

As a little girl I was chased 4 blocks to my Brownie meeting by a barking doberman who wanted my baby blue bubblegum flavored cone. He did not catch me and the ice cream did not melt! LOVE THIS PLACE.
This place has my fave ice cream in the world! I *love* their Dutch chocolate ice cream and dream of it often. I can't eat it that much because it's premium ice cream (or maybe even extra premium), which sounds nice, but really just means it's fatty as hell. But sooo good. Mmm, writing about it *almost* makes me want some. My SD friend dreams of their Dutch chocolate ice cream too, and it makes her sad that there's only one Fosselman's. They're open 'til 10 pm or so (at least in the summertime), so I can get my ice cream fix even late at night. Sometimes I have it for meals! Luckily I don't live too close, or else I'd be fat. And since I love chocolate, I pretty much never get any other flavor, but I have sampled several others, and they were pretty good (but not as rich and tasty as my fave).
Only downside is their parking lot, which is kind of small and weirdly designed. Occasionally if I have to park on the very inside, I feel like I'm going to crash into a pole when I back out of the space. I don't know how the very last car is supposed to get back out, so I'm afraid of that space. But you can always park on the street in the 24-minute (?) zone, as long as you don't eat your ice cream too slow.

Great place. Can not be beat. Have not tried any ice cream better than this place. They make their own ice cream fresh in the back. They have a wide selection of flavors to choose from.
The only thing I would say negative about this spot is the service. I dunno, maybe im just anal? I've been coming here ever since i could remember. Service has gone down drasticly. mind you, there are a couple of workers there who are pretty friendly, but as a whole store, its pretty lacking. But its not enough to stop me from coming. again and again and again

This is real made on-site ice cream. Tastewise it's a little less or about the same as all the daily made ice cream shops in the Bay Area such as Lappert's and I would at most give it four stars, however, it's hot in So. CA. and it's nice to have a fresh made ice cream shop especially around Alhambra with its summer heat and over-saturated boba shops and I give five stars for opening in a depleted area of Alhambra. It's good to get something else cold here besides boba and shaved ice.
I've been a Fosselman's girl ever since I can remembered. My grandpa and I used to talk there every Friday after school. Gosh, I miss those special days....Happiest days of my life! But hey, awesome ice cream... THE BEST ice cream in the world to me. I have shifted into FroYo now, but hey, once in awhile, I would sneak into Fosselman for a big Banana Split, with everything on it!! My gosh... it's pure heaven!! Life is good when I am there. haha.. Amen!
The best icecream shop in the southland.
It's as simple as that.
I'm in here all the time.
Hands down, best ice cream in LA. Their peach, burgundy cherry, lemon, and green tea are my faves. Because they have some unique flavors, it's easy to bypass the traditionals like chocolate and strawberry but those are good too. It's not a hip place just old fashioned ice cream made the way it should be, creamy and smooth and full of flavor. We always have a 1/2 gallon in our freezer.
Pros:
Excellent Fresh Ice Cream
Nice Selection of Flavors (Taro!)
Malts and Shakes
Decent Price for the Quality
Stays True to it's Origins (since 1928)
Cons:
The attentendant I dealt with seemed a bit stuck up (-1 star)
A bit overhyped but it is an Alhambra institution. You gotta love their experiments! So many flavors! They are old school with the serving sizes so the price is definitely worth it!
The fact that I've already referenced this place in other reviews without giving it its own is shameful. Anyway, it seems like most of us are pretty into Fosselman's. I like the variety in flavors, I've tried several and all have been tasty. There are "seasonal flavors" during holidays, my favorite being Irish Creme when St. Patty's is around. The cookies used for the ice cream sandwiches are yum and keep the ice cream together well. And who can hate on the old school charm? Haters, I guess.
It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, but that middle of nowhere is also where I grew up, so pffft. I can remember my first Fosselman's visit as a pre-schooler on a field trip. I remember being really pissed that we were only given chocolate or vanilla as our flavor options when I really wanted strawberry.
The only negative remark I can make is I hate that it is a cash-only establishment, but that's another rant for another time.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ice cream at Fosselman's
Its cash only so come prepared. I love the mango ice cream and the white chocolate macadamia nut ice cream the best. Its creamy, smooth, silky and just DELICIOUS!!!

One thing growing up with this a stones throw away. It made dessert something to welcome. Especially after going to the local theaters (How many god damn theaters have there been now in the same mile radius?) it was always a nice little stop for a date or just when you want to pig out on Ice cream.
I'm a sucker for Root beer floats. Maybe it was the start to my horrible drinking affliction that prevents me from being a productive member of society. But you get Root and Beer and you mix it in to a large Vanilla Fosselman's glass and you have yourself some addiction to kick.
The price. Well, what can you expect? It's not the 60's and owning and operating a ma' and pa' establishment like this will easily cost you. So you pay the price of admission knowingly when you go into this sort of place.
Especially when the summer months are here in SoCal, Fosselman's is the sort of place you need to keep on the back of your mind because you will need it when the mercury rises.
MMM.
Yummy and affordable!
What more can you ask for?
This is the premiere ice cream shop. The decor is ok. It hasn't changed for ages. However the ice cream is top notch. When businesses outsource and advertise their icecream you know its pretty good. The staff is great. Raisin rum and green tea are good choices. I think i can smell the rum. do you have to be 21 and over?
Only drawback is the parking. There are too many near collisions with all the cars coming and going out of their tiny and full lot. Better to walk a few meters on the street. Safe parking and good snacking.
I just don't get it and I guess I never will. Perhaps I'm spoiled by all my years in the Bay Area eating Fenton's. The toasted almond ice cream at Fosselman's is simply raw almonds (not a toasted one in the bunch) mixed into mediocre vanilla ice cream - WTF???!!
Anyway, I guess I'm the only one who doesn't get the hype.
Fosselman's? YES PLEASE!
The best flavors: blueberry, mango, coconut pineapple, and something called "chocolate covered strawberries".
