Fosselman's has to be on your list if you are planning to visit San Gabriel Valley.

Homemade ice cream with so many flavors to choose from! They also make milkshakes - which is also heavenly delicious.

You've got to try it out for yourself :)

Cute little ice cream parlor with a nostalgic "old school" feel, which I love! Plus they have taro and lychee flavors?! I'm sold!

Taro flavored ice cream is rare and hard to find. The stuff they sell in Asian markets are all utterly disappointing...shitty quality with no taro flavor whatsoever.

The Taro Ice Cream here is coconutty and creamy. Not as good as the ones I've tried in Hong Kong...but probably the best you can get out here. (Although if I'm wrong, let me know! I'd love to know where I can get more).

I also tried their Pistachio, and like the Taro, it was rich, creamy, and most importantly, not too sweet. Yum!

I have to say, I'm not a big fan of their Real Mango. I don't know, it doesn't have that fragrant mango flavor I like. Häagen-Dazs's tastes better.

Still, I'm really glad I found this little gem! Can't wait to come back on a hot sunny day!

OH and bring cash! This place is CASH ONLY!

I absolutely love the decor of this place. It has the old school ice cream parlor feel to it. The people who come here are cute senior citizens and families.

They make their own ice cream and they have a bajillion flavors. I've had the lychee (which is super fruity yet creamy), the green tea (which is similar to haagen daz), and the butter pecan (which was nutty and creamy).

I would like to come back and try all the flavors one day, and even the shakes too.

Love the ice cream here!  They have flavors you can't find at other ice cream chains like rum raisin or even cinnamon.  They're nicely generous with how much they give you and I'm super eager to try a lot of the flavors there.  Apparently, they even have frozen yogurt with flavors such as pineapple and peach... so there's really something for those who didn't want ice cream but frozen yogurt instead.

The one flavor I wouldn't get again that I've tried so far would be chocolate dipped strawberry.  They could have added more of that strawberry flavor into their mixture, but that's just my opinion.  The real mango ice cream is SO good!!  So is their lychee and taro.

The next time I come back here, I would definitely try their ice cream cake or pie.

"You've never been to Fosselman's? What's wrong with you!?" Yeah, now I can say that line to other people.

    FOOD QUALITY:
Uh uh uh! Where to begin. Flavors are not the strongest here, so it's not oversaturated with sweetness. One thing that I really appreciate is that the ice cream here is pretty rich and creamy, but at the same time it is pretty light. A little reminiscent of Coldstone's ice cream that holds together a little better but isn't as heavy. At the end after you've finished, you don't feel fat or heavy but pretty relaxed.

    ENVIRONMENT:
There's a lot of tables but probably not enough to fit everyone that comes here.

I'll definitely be back here for more ice cream!

I wanted my 200th review to combine two things I love: family and ice cream. =)

It was the last day before my some of my family was flying back to Australia and we decided to stop on a whim at Fosselman's. I've passed by this place for years and never stopped by. I really admire the quaint charm of the exterior of the building though. It really does look like an ice cream parlor!

We came in during the afternoon on Christmas Eve, so I'm not sure how busy it gets on a regular Saturday. The interior is really charming. I didn't get  chance to took at the candy and the taffy that they sell near the entrance. There isn't too much seating, the place is relatively small the interior is cozy and quaint too. When I finally saw all the flavors of different ice creams, I was delighted! I was expecting an all American ice cream parlor, but they had taro, lychee, red bean and almond. All the flavors that my aunts would love. Plus they also have seasonal flavors too. It was egg nog when we were there.

There was 5 of us and we all shared the flavors family style. We tried: coffee, taro, maple and walnut, burgundy cherry, and raspberry mousse. All the flavors were really creamy, strong, but without being overpowering and not super sweet. Everything tasted really fresh and exactly like what it suppose to taste like. Although, I thought the taro tasted ore like coconut then taro. But it was still delicious!  I thought the maple and walnut was one of the best. It was light and subtle. We got the single scoops ($2.50) in cones and asked them for a cup to turn it upside in. We found that we would get more ice cream on a cone, rather then a cup, and you'd get a sweet cone to also devour for the same price as just getting it just in a cup. You get the best of both worlds too because you can still eat it out of a cup! =)

Everything was so good that we ended up buying pre-packed 1/2 gallon for $6.95 of the taro flavor. We brought it home and shared it with my 15 or so other relatives and everybody loved it.

Family + Ice cream = Happiness

Thanks again to the Yelp search feature! Really helps when you're in an area you don't know too well, and looking for some good food.

First thing I read was chocolate dipped strawberry flavor, and I was hooked.  Knew I needed to try it out.  It wasn't too far from the place we had lunch, and every good meal deserves a great dessert.

It's like an old fashioned ice cream parlor.  Hmm, what kind of ice cream do I want?  So many choices, it was hard to choose.  Sure, I already had one flavor in mind, but who can refuse the double cone.  No ladies and gents, this isn't a double scoop of ice cream you can get at your local Rite Aid.  I'm talking about a cone where my ice cream could sit side by side.  That right there was pretty awesome sauce.  I decided on two flavors, chocolate dipped strawberry (as mentioned earlier) and real pistachio.  Loved both.  The flavor of the chocolate dipped strawberry is true to its name.  The real pistachio, great flavor, lots of pistachios.

Also took advantage of their take home pints.  Ube ice cream?  This place isn't filipino, or asian.  Ube?  Yeah, Ube. I'll take one please.

They have seating inside as well as a couple benches outside for your ice cream enjoying pleasure.

They also sell candy and salt water taffy.  I would have tried the taffy, but didn't see it until I was about to leave.  I guess I have something else to look forward to.

How i passed by this lil gem in my own hometown is beyonddd me! WTFFFUDGE?!

Fosselman's offers a WiDE variety of HOMEMADE ice cream AND sorbets. 31 flavors ain't got nothing on this place! You can choose from getting scoops in a cone or cup, milkshakes, floats, sundaes, or even a banana split!

    I've had the
    +_raspberry sorbet (deeelicccious!),
+_a root beer float (yummy and refreshing [: ),
    +_taro ice cream ( MUST try! )
+_almond mocha fudge milkshake ( rich, creamy, and MY fav! )
+_mint chocolate chip milkshake ( the boyfriend's FAV!)
+_strawberry cheesecake ice cream ( its aiiite. )

    important stuff:
+_CASH ONLY! CASH ONLY! (but there are banks and atms around)
+_small parking lot but you can park on the street too.
+_don't be afraid to ask for samples, they get that a lot (plus their employees are wayy friendly and helpful! :D )

If you find a flavor that you just can't get enough of, they also sell their top selling flavors by the pint at the end of the shop. They also have ice cream cakes and sandwiches. At the front of the store, they have a good salt water taffy selection as well as some post cards and some ol'school candies (:

There are a couple tables inside and a bench outside. (i prefer sitting outside, while i watch cars drive by and catch up with the peeps [: )

Def a good place for dates, catching up, or a treat for the kids after school/dinner.

BTW! keep an eye out when you're in the area cause they tend to have SEASONAL flavors that they only offer for a short while!

Old-fashioned ice cream parlor! GAHHHH I DIE. Y U SO CUTE?

I've bookmarked this place for quite some time now and finally got to try it after a long, exhausting trip to Costco nearby.

I got the Chocolate-dipped Strawberry and Dulce in a cup for about $5. Loved every creamy bite of it! The ice cream wasn't too sweet or overpowering for me.

Only downside, my two friends (who split one scoop) judged me and questioned how I could finish two scoops of ice cream. T_____T Y ME SO FAT?

Perfect. You can't go wrong coming here for ice cream, root beer floats, candy, or cakes.

I was thirsty and craving ice cream, so I got myself the root beer float for $4.30 Maybe a little pricey for some, but it's quality ice cream.

There's A LOT of flavors to pick from. I mean, A LOT. Didn't scoop any things up other than root beer float, but definitely coming back soon for more.

CASH ONLY. Parking is small, but you can park on the street. It's right next to Wells Fargo.

This place hands down has the best ice cream period. The ice cream is home made and each flavor actually tastes like it's supposed to. It doesn't taste freezer-burnt and it doesn't lack flavor due to poor quality ingredients. My favorite thing here are the sundaes. They are very generous with the portions and the toppings for the sundaes are just as tasty as the ice cream.

Fosselman's has been around forever so it's cute and old-fashioned. They sell candy there too if you prefer that but I don't know anyone who dislikes what this place has to offer. They only accept cash so be prepared. This spot is also great for dates or just getting your fatty on :)

Its hard to find an old school ice cream shop nowadays. On one of the only streets that had power during the windstorms last month, we were lucky to experience Fosselman's.

Not only do they have your everyday run of the mill flavors, they have some great alternatives. Since I like to think/eat out of the box, I opted for the Rum Raisin and the Banana Walnut.

The rum raisin was pretty damn good. And if you really wanna simulate gettin' tipsy, you can double scoop it up with some egg nog ice cream.

The banana walnut wasn't as daring, but I love banana sweets so I guess I chose two winners! Not to mention that little crunch you get from real walnuts in it.

Only thing I gotta say about Fosselman's is that they need some happier and more helpful employees. Didn't smile for a second AND had no suggestions for me. OH WELL, the ICE CREAM's good!

This is a hidden gem! I grew up living nearby. But I was sad that I never gone there that much till recently. They have a lot of unique flavors! Lychee is by far my favorite flavor.

The store is quite small, so if you plan on sitting inside, youll find about 12 seats or so. But they do have benches on the outside. The parking lot is also quite small, so I'd suggest you park on the street.

Also, like other asian restaurants it is cash only!!

Can you say old fashioned ice cream parlor?!

This place is soo cute! I totally got the feel of this place right when I walked in. They have seating (tables and booths) where you could sit and enjoy their delicious ice cream. They have plenty of yummy flavors to try.
I have never seen or heard of a double cone, so when I saw it I had to get it! I decided to get the double cone with Chocolate dipped strawberry and toasted almond. My cousin got mango and my sister got the read pistachio, which were both equally good. I also saw some other flavors that caught my eye (Taro and Ube) which is definitely not an ice cream flavor you see everyday, but something I would like to try. Oh, and this place is CASH ONLY.
I realllly wish they had a place like this in Long Beach, but if I am ever in Alhambra again, this will definitely be a place to go to again :)

I'm not a big fan of ice cream in general and don't really go looking for some ice cream so I don't have any other ice cream parlor to compare Fosselman's to.

I CANNOT believe I found it! Ever since I left Hong Kong over 13 years ago, I have not had taro ice cream like the ones I did in HK. Yes, it is artificially colored, and its purple but this is as good as it gets. I have to admit, it is a pretty "asian" flavor, but nonetheless, the best ice cream I've ever had. I wish I can give a million stars for this place, it is THAT GOOD.

Besides the taro ice cream they also sell most of their flavors by pints or even gallons I believe. So take some home!

    What I recommend:

All this place always brings back good memories.  Reminiscing the times when I was a kid and my mom would take me here for ice cream.  This place has not change a bit and the aroma smells the same every time I walk in here.  Once you walk in you there will be candy selections on the left and jelly bean selection on the right,  prepacked ice cream in the back and the ice cream is on the left.  Plenty of seating space and they have their own parking lot.  Workers are all really nice, plus you can ask for a sample if you are unsure of what flavor you would like.

    Ice Cream:
My favorite is the Cherry Vanilla ice cream.

    Candy:
Watermelon gummy candy, and Island punch jelly bean.

I don't remember how we originally stumbled across Fosselman's one evening but I am so grateful we did. Our first visit there was a blur and I remember more about the quest to find cash than the ice cream its self. That being said my gf and I stopped back in after our anniversary dinner to sit down and enjoy all that Fosselman's has to offer. I went with a scoop of peppermint candy and Nutella while my better half tried toasted almond and pink champagne. All four flavors had their own distinct flavor and were not overtly sugary. They reminded me of Asian desserts, just sweet enough to satisfy your sugar jones but not enough to give you the beetis.
I recommend checking them out on a week night because it is a mad house here on a Saturday / Sunday evening. You won't get a seat, you'll be rushed to select a flavor and you'll vow never to return. I plan to keep returning until I have sampled at least every flavor so watch your back taro and avocado, I'll be back with an empty tummy and a ladle.

PS- If you need cash just purchase something from the 7-11 across the street and get cash back. No bank fees!

I only came here to check it out because I was curious to why this place has soooooo many good reviews. It's your typical mom and pop kind of shop; you can definitely tell that it's old school. I had the butter toffee ice cream and it was pretty good. I liked the simplicity of it. It'd definitely a lot creamier than the typical ice cream which was good. I guess you can't really go wrong w/ original flavors.

I'd only come back here if I was in the area, I don't think I'd travel far for this. It's not bad at all, it's just old fashioned ice cream. Maybe I'll re-rate it after I try the mint-n-chip and green tea or something.

mmm ice cream on a perfect sunny day in december, nothing gets better than that ! my bf and i were messing around with his yelp app and found that this place had almost a thousand reviews and a 4.5 so we had to come ! the store itself is really cute and spacious. they have a taffy corner which i had to restrain myself from because I love taffy and they also have a freezer full of ice cream cakes. they also have pre packaged pints and quarts of different flavors.

i got way too excited and got two scoops of lychee even though my bf told  me to get two different flavors. oops. the lychee was really good and very creamy unlike other lychee ice creams ive had before that tend to be more watery with just bits and pieces of lychee. my bf got the chocolate dipped strawberry and the mocha something and they were both delicious as well . my favorite would have to be the strawberry one.

ooh they also have double cones! so awesome ! and outside there are little benches to sit on too.

Fosselmans. Is it good? Sure, it's legit ice cream. Is it amazeballs like everyone else is making it out to be? Is O.J really innocent? Aw heck no.

For what it is, Fosselmans is pricey but delicious ice cream. I would personally take the money I'd spend on a single scoop, go down the street to Rite Aid and get a carton of their Black Cherry ice cream for about the same amount. Sorry, but just sayin'..

The workers at Fosselmans are pretty nice and they give you generous scoops, but I still don't think it's worth the cost that it is.

The flavors they offer at Fosselmans are really diverse and all are jam packed with flavor. Well, I guess that's a great plus and appeal for this place. Great flavor and good texture.

Watch out for their infamously small parking lot. It's super cramped and small and just asking for added dings and dents on your car.

I will always come here when friends want to, but you best bet it that I won't come here on my own accord [or in it, hehe, proud Honda owner].

They also offer milkshakes, banana splits, prepackaged pints, quarts, and they have a 'candy shop'. I haven't even bothered asking how much the candy costs, given how much the ice cream costs.

After hearing a great deal about the ol' fashioned ice cream experience, I decided to give this place a try.

Parking was relatively easy to find, yet benches outside seemed to be limited. People were huddling around them and their friends, wishing they could sit down and eat ice cream. It felt as if the patrons wanted to be part of experience by sitting on a bench and watching cars drive by.

I tried two scoops of their finest chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in a sugar cone. After a few minutes of trying the ice cream, I realized it was nice and creamy but lacked something. Eventually I realized it was the vanilla flavor and more importantly, cookie dough. There didn't seem to be enough cookie dough and chocolate chips, and by that regard, it was as if I ordered vanilla ice cream. I wasn't happy to see this, as I love having cookie dough in my ice cream. Despite other positive reviews by friends, it wasn't right to have ice cream that lacked flavor and cookie dough. I didn't get a chance to try their sundaes, and perhaps those might have better suited my palette.

I have also had the fortune of tasting flavor bursting, experimental ice creams at Humphrey Slocombe in San Francisco, Scoops on Melrose in LA, and Molly Moon's in Seattle. I'd gladly opt out of Fosselman's for those places.

After trying Fosselman's at Buster's a few weeks back, I simply had to go to the Fosselman's location.

Very charming store with more than just ice cream.  They have candies, lollipops, ice cream cakes, etc.

Visually, you do feel like you're in an old-school ice cream parlor.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, their ice cream is the best, period.  If there's better in the LA area, I haven't had it.  Feel free to let me know and I'll be sure to try it.

Fosselman's Mocha Almond Fudge might be the greatest adult ice cream I've ever had.  All the flavors are subtle and not too sweet.  The almonds bring texture.  All their ice creams have such a great creaminess, including this one.  Because it's only subtly sweet, it's the one ice cream I can eat a lot of.  (Not sure if that's a good thing, though I'm thin.)

If you're looking for ice cream, I can't imagine why you wouldn't give Fosselman's five stars.  If there's someone out there who prefers Baskin Robbins or ColdStone, it's their problem and not Fosselman's.

Once again, for anyone reading this...  if there's better ice cream in LA, please let me know.

I gave up the booze this month and it's caused me to crave sweets like a stoned 13 year old. Sober October has given extra lining to the pockets of quite a few ice cream shops and bakeries.

Whatever. We all have our vices.

The taro/ube ice cream at Fosselman's haunts my dreams and has made me lie more about my whereabouts and cash supply than beer, whiskey, or any of their cohorts probably ever have. It's thicker than your average ice cream. More rich. It melts slower. If you've never had ube or taro before, this is a great gateway drug. It's like a cross between coconut, almond, and sweet potato.

Fosselman's is pretty magnificent. They've got nice people working here. The first one oughta be free (that's how they hook you in.)

I didn't get too ambitious or adventurous here with my ice cream selection, but the truth is that there is no need to be daring with your pick of flavors. Creamy, dense, and perfectly chilled scoops of ice cream are the greatest pick me ups. When ice cream of this caliber is served, I opt for the usual coffee, chocolate chip, or mint chip flavors.

The scoops are generous in size and the price is similar to what you would find at other ice creameries in LA. I wouldn't let either of those factors deter you from coming in to Fosselman's. The ambiance is more homey and down to earth than hip and fresh.

The ice cream here is the real deal, wholesome, creamy, flavorful and not sickeningly sweet. The site itself is not much; a few tables and chairs with some candy and other treats. But every time, I step into Fosselman's, I feel like a kid again.

This time I came in with a group of friends after a birthday brunch and we giggled like schoolgirls as we chatted and shared ice cream. I had a scoop each of mango and taro; the first, refreshing with a lingering after-taste of sweet fruit; the latter, rich and dense with a hint of coconut.

Fosselman's treats harken back to a time when people took great care in not only making ice cream but choosing fresh ingredients to go into it. You can tell it's made with love, and after being in the business for over ninety-years, you have to pay homage to a family-owned shop whose passion is making delicious dessert. You will be a Fosselman's fan from the very first lick.

This place really takes you back to your childhood.  Not only do they have great selection of ice cream, they also have salt water taffy and other childhood candies. Right now they have lot of the halloween candies like candy corn.  The decor reminds you of the old-fashioned ice cream shops.  Places like this is very rare these days.

Their taro flavor ice cream is awesome.  Tastes just like a taro tea, very rich with milky flavor.  I also tried their seasonal pumpkin ice cream but the flavor wasn't as strong as I like.  Next time I'll try the lychee ice cream.

Ice cream, in the past few years, has become socially frowned upon.  As people grow more health conscious, we decide to get our calories from a bucketful of froyo (albeit topped with mochi, brownies/cookies, and fruit drenched in syrup) instead of ice cream.  As much as I love Yogurtland and skinny cow and appreciate their place in the world, there is NOTHING like a good ol fashioned cup/cone of icecream!

The space is what you expect an old fashioned icecream shop to be.  In fact, you'll probably feel like you just waked into a setup from the 70's. Nothing extraordinary or special.  No futuristic light fixtures, strange plastic chairs, or cute cartoon characters on the cups.  Just plain. delicious. ice. cream. period.

The thing I love most about Fosselmans is that they somehow make their icecream light and refreshing.  It's not too sweet or jam packed with random ingredients that can be nausea inducing.  I can actually eat a whole cone with 2 scoops and not feel disgustingly full or bloated.  Out of the numerous flavors I've tried, my faves are:

    PUMPKIN (seasonal)
    banana walnut
    taro
    lychee
    green tea
    red bean
    blueberry
    cookies & cream

I love all the asian-inspired flavors bc they tend to be very flavorful but light, if that makes sense.  But really it's all a matter of personal preference, bc I think all the flavors are good!  imho, best icecream in LA.

    IT'S OCTOBER!!

HURRY IN AND GET YOUR PUMPKIN ICE CREAM!

    It is so good.

As always, cash only, indoor seating (tables) & outdoor seating (benches), small parking lot around the side. Great value for money.  I recommend the Brownie Sundae today I had pumpkin ice cream with hot fudge, a super delicious fudge-y brownie, whipped cream and nuts. I also decided I am naming my first born Fosselman. Just try and stop me.

This place has been around since the early 1900s, and that should already tell you something.  Fosselman's seriously has the best ice cream I've ever had.  Period.

If you live in the area or happen to be stopping through, definitely stop by for a scoop or two -- they're very inexpensive, especially compared to chain stores, and the workers are always generous with the scooping.  I think one scoop is $2.50, and portion-wise, it really feels more like two.  All flavors are great, too, even the basics like vanilla and chocolate.  Be sure to try the coconut!

Fair warning: the parking is terrible.  Fosselman's private lot is very tiny, which is an issue 'cause everyone drives big cars it seems.  Fortunately, the bank next door has a very large parking lot, and there's plenty of street parking.  Also keep in mind that the place is quite old, and when the place gets crowded, the tables don't get cleaned, but you probably won't have a place to sit anyway.

You're not going to find anything ridiculously fancy on the menu like Coldstone or whatever, so if that's your thing, you may be disappointed.  Fosselman's is definitely about the classic ice cream parlor experience, and I'm pretty sure the decor has been up since before my parents were even born.  If you go early enough, you may even catch the dude who sells candy in the corner of their store.
