Fortune inn, really nothing to brag about. Might as well warm up a cup of ramen noodles soup from the supermarket, much more flaverfull and better for your pocket.
We ordered for delivery, but since the wait was about an hour we decided to go pick up our order, which consisted of the following:
    Hot and sour soup
    Mongolian beef
    Shrimp fried rice
    Saseme chicken
    Hot braised scrimp
    Vegetable cho mein
Everything was alright, nothing was really good  but nothing was really bad either.
If you are craving Chinese food, this place will not do it.

Albeit this review is only based on their delivery service but regardless that's part of their experience so here goes!

I placed my order online around 5 o'clock- the Hot and Sour Soup (ordered it hot), the Szechuan Garlic Shrimp (also ordered it hot), with some egg rolls.  The food took over an hour to arrive which was outside the estimated delivery time- but I'm more than willing to contribute that to the power outages though I feel like if they are outside their delivery time they should contact us.

Upon my food arriving they didn't even try knocking but rather gave me a disinterested phone call informing me they had an order for Lee from Fortune Inn rather than just saying they were here.

I signed for my food took it inside and opened it up to find that it was luke warm and the egg rolls were soggy.  I served myself some food and the dishes were tasty but they couldn't even follow the simple direction of actually making them spicy because they were both incredibly mild.

Overall the food was decent but I will not order from here again.

Delivery was fast and food was hot better than expected. The food was tasty, and fresh. The chicken was good, the spice wasn't so spicy but good and tasty. I would recommend this place and for sure eat there again. If delivery make sure you ask for extra soy sauce, the red hot sauce and extra napkins. The fortune cookies were awesome.

Cheap? $50 for rubbery Mongolian Beef and flavorless Chicken is NOT CHEAP!  The sizzling rice soup was not very good and the lettuce chicken wraps tasted like they were made with canned chicken & BTW to all the above white chocolate fortune cookies are disgusting!!!  The only thing I agree with the four star reviews is that the service was very good and very fast  but when you're serving food that taste like this the service doesn't matter. Save you some money and go to Panda Express much cheaper and probably taste the same or BETTER!!!

what can i say about Fortune INN

If you take out make sure you don't order orange chicken and chicken cracker.

when the chef make  the food they put in this foam to go boxes, when I took it back home to enjoy with my wife it was mushy and soggy, the reason is to hot the steam kills the texture.

same with the chow main, mushy and soggy.

O.K., people.  I'm trying to simplify these reviews per your requests.

Had garlic string beans, firecracker chicken and garlic shrimp for lunch.

    They get a 4, 2 and 4 respectively.

The beans had just just enough garlic, were hot and tasted fresh.

There was nothing 'firecrackerish" about the chicken.  It was still good, but it wasn't what is was advertised to be; I don't like that.  The garlic shrimp was delicious.  As delicious as the string beans.  Definitely ordering the shrimp again.

Service was prompt and polite.  Glass always had water.  Didn't use restroom so can't comment either way.

Prolly my favorite Chinese place in Glendale at this point.  Looking forward to going again and trying a new dish.

Pretty standard Chinese food... I would say it beats Panda Inn, which is like a block away. So if you're deciding between the 2, go here! (:

Got the pot stickers as an appetizer (about $5), and the sizzling black pepper beef for dinner ($11.25). Pot stickers were good, and I actually did enjoy the black pepper beef, I would order it again. My friend got the kung pao chicken, but I thought it tasted a little weird... definitely had better kung pao chicken at other places. You get a pretty good amount of food for the price. Does come with steamed rice. The service when we were there was good.

Basically, generally good food and place, but nothing to write home about.

This place is awesome for so many reasons:

    1) There's never a wait. No matter what time of day, you can get a table for six people and only wait a couple minutes.

    2) The people that work there are ridiculously friendly. I want to buy them flowers for Valentine's Day and buy them a pony.

    3) Free delivery. WOO!

    4) 90% of the things I've tried off this menu has been delicious with a capital D.

    5) vanilla dipped fortune cookies that can't be beat. They're a beautiful thing.

The only downside is the chicken that tends to be undercooked. Maybe that's too strong a word - I don't want to deter anyone from going here but whenever I get a chicken dish I usually asked for it to be cooked well done because a few of the times I've gotten sick and have noticed the chicken to be a little too pink in the middle.

Don't let that scare you! Go here and if you get chicken, just ask for it to be cooked well done!

Went back for dine-in, and overall I decided to update with a more favorable rating.

    Dumpling apps - great
    Baozi - good
Sizzling black pepper chicken once again trumped everything.
Yangchow fried rice (with wet sauce) delish.
Chow fun was a bit bland.

Service was meh. But overall my friends were impressed and I enjoyed it, so I thought it deserved an upgrade. There you go.

One star for the fast, friendly service.
One star for the white chocolate dipped fortune cookie - I normally don't care for these, but this was the best tasting thing included in my meal.

    2 stars total.

Today, I was a rebel...I decided to ditch my lunch I originally brought and go out.

You can order online, but I decided to call it in.  I arrived 10 minutes after I placed the order and it was ready to go.  $9.52, I added a drink and it came out to $11.52 total. I ordered the orange chicken lunch special.  It came with steamed rice, green beans, and an egg roll.  At first glance, it looked appetizing, until this foul smell came from it.  I'm not sure what it was exactly.  It definitely came from the food. Just a bad aroma. I thought, maybe it tastes ok? So I gave it the benefit of the doubt and had a few bites. The chicken just didn't taste good.  I'm not sure if it was the sauce, or what. Its hard to explain, but everything had a hint of a bad taste in the back of the flavor of the food.  I can't explain the taste.  It was just gross...like it had been sitting out for a long time.

I had high hopes for this place.  The aroma that came from opening my boxed lunch started and quickly ended this bad lunch.

I have to say, the service was great, they were quick, a little much for what it was. If all was under $10, I'd consider it a good lunch special. Overall, the food was meh, I probably won't be venturing out so much on my lunch breaks.

What's that, God?  I should've eaten what I brought? Got it, thanks!

I'm so surprised to see that this restaurant has a 4-star rating? I tried this place after having a major craving for Chinese food, but was too lazy to trek over to Alhambra/Monterey Park. I figured this place would have to be legit since it had such a good rating, but I had 3 different dishes (all specials) which were all either too salty, too sweet, too oily  and just not very asian (not a single asian person was working at the restaurant)!

Needless to say, this place is as Americanized as it gets. Don't get me wrong,  I honestly can appreciate Americanized Chinese food from time to time, but after this experience, I realize I would much rather save my money and go to Panda Express!

This is for delivery only, as I have never actually been to the restaurant itself.

Let me first say, delivery is fast. Which is awesome. And would almost take them up to a full 5 stars. But alas, the noodles. I love noodles. But the noodles here make me sad every time. There is so much potential, yet they always fall short. And I have tried close to all of them. As well as sampled some other menu items.

Now for the positive. Fortune Inn is some good American Chinese food, serving American Chinese Food Classics complete with thick sauces and some baby corn (which I do not understand). I only wish that they would really go for some of their flavors a bit more. Everything that is supposed to be sweet is indeed sweet. Things that should be spicy- I detect no spice whatsoever. Things that should be salty (black beans!) are not. But that seems par for the course for American Chinese food. So as long as you know what you are getting in to...

    Sweet and Sour pork- delightful.

dumplings/appetizers- par for the course- nothing exciting, shocking, or bad to be had.

Walnut Shrimp- verge of cloyingly sweet- as they should be.

mu shu pork- a winner. and always necessary.

    szechaun garlic pork- pretty tasty.

beef in black bean sauce- again, pretty tasty.

The fortune cookies dipped in white chocolate- a nice, refreshing treat.

And did I mention, fast delivery?

    Anyway, on with the review:

Food ~ Yummm...big portions, all typical Chinese Food. I had the Lemon Chicken. The lemon sauce is very good, not too sweet, not too overpowering, just right! The green beans that were served with it have a hint of garlic and butter sauce, very tasty.

Host and Wait Staff ~ Outstanding!! They all made us feel very welcome, not rushed. Waters and tea were refilled promptly.

We all came away very full and happy :-)

I went here with a few veggie friends this past week and we enjoyed every dish we tried.

The veggie fried rice was fresh and good. Not too greasy or crispy or brown. The kung pow tofu as well as the other tofu dish we tried were great. The service was quick and friendly. The chocolate dipped fortune cookie at the end was a sweet, unexpected touch. 5 people @ $10/person for 4 dishes(family style) w/ steamed rice(included).

I really enjoyed the Sum Gum Fried Rice, need to venture onto other menu items, but for my first time out, this was delicious.  I ate it to go literally the next day.

Great place to eat before going to watch a movie, right between two movie theaters in Glendale.

ALSO, their fortune cookies are half covered in white chocolate (or maybe its just white icing?).  Very interesting.

Tried this place out based on other yelp reviews. My boyfriend and I decided to have dinner here. The potstickers were delicious. We also ordered chow mein with veggies and bbq  pork. I think next time we'll pass on the pork because it  had a bit of gamey flavor, which is odd. The chow mein itself was good though. We ordered string beans and beef which was very flavorful. The meat was tender and everything was cooked well. The waiter was very attentive and gave us refills before we even realized we needed them. Very satisfied and the food tasted great. Will definitely come back again.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what everyone else is talking about.  This place was NOT good at all.  Maybe I was spoiled by good Chinese food when I lived in San Gabriel.

Fortune Inn's food was not edible.  I almost demanded my money back because we were so unsatisfied. We didn't even eat 1/4 of the food.  The hot and sour soup- tasted like thick salty gravy.  The fried rice was over cooked and oily.  The fire cracker chicken was drowned in a very bland clear sauce.. I tasted no spice or thai chili as mentioned in the description.  It was like congealed canned meat.  Maybe I ordered on a bad night, but I will not order from this place ever again.  Save your money

Sub Gum chow mein is TOO good, you'll find some chicken, pork and shrimp. The noodles itself are very delicious. Might be on the oily side, but it doesn't hurt eating it here and there.

Their white fish is not only healthy, but out of this world. The sauce it comes with complements the fish like no other.

My favorite is their chicken & corn soup, it's savory and sweet at the same time. Even though you might be consuming 10 eggs in one serving, I really don't care.

Besides that, they have a VARIETY of dishes, from chicken dishes, to beef, pork, fish, veggies. There's enough to satisfy everyone.

FRIENDLY OWNER and workers! They're super nice and love to answer any questions you have.
You will always be greated by everyone the moment you walk in.

As a customer for over 15 years, I have always been and will be happy at Fortune Inn.

Yesterday it was pouring rain and I did not want  to leave the house with my little one, so I scoured the the web to find something to eat. I was open to try something new and this was it! The food was delicious and the delivery was very prompt (even considering the rain). The delivery driver was so nice, he got soaked trying to keep my food dry.
The orange chicken was delicious (not over battered) and they use white meat in lieu of cheap thigh meat. The sweet and sour pork was equally delicious. I'm just a bit sad that I didn't try them sooner.
The only minus was the amount of steamed rice they gave for two entrees. Next time I'll request more.

The best Chinese restaurant in Glendale!  You cannot go wrong with the classic order of orange flavored chicken.  I just recently tried the smoke beef after taking the recommendations of prior yelpers, it had a very unique bbq flavor and I also recommend you give it a try.  If you get there in time for lunch you can order the lunch special which is dirt cheap and comes with one entree, rice, and soup.  The hot and sour soup is one of my favs.

Fortune Inn is HANDS DOWN the best Chinese in Glendale.

Having grown up in Glendale, I've been going there for years and years.

It was nice to know, that after a long hiatus due to a move to Northridge that this place is still as good as I remember.

My boyfriend and I came here about a month ago around 9 pm on a Saturday night.  The staff let us pick where we wanted to sit, so we chose a corner table surrounded by empty tables.  Low and behold, because the food is so amazing, the place began to fill.

And just our luck, the table next to us was quickly spotted by a loud and obnoxious family - kids that don't know what their "indoor voice" sounds like.  We were hoping they'd shut up once their food arrived, but nope.  The parents just kept encouraging them.

I discreetly waved one of the two servers over and politely asked if we could move.  Without even thinking he said, "Of course!"  We moved to a much more isolated table in the dining room and the server moved all of our delicious food over for us.

It was such a relief that it was no problem at all.

As for the food, we ordered Sweet and Sour Soup, Wonton Soup, Kon Pao Chicken and Mongolian Beef.  All of which were delicious and amazing, just like I had remembered.

Thank goodness for places like this.

I order delivery from Fortune Inn when I'm too lazy, which is very often. Not only is their delivery fast but I'm never disappointed with the food. Love the green beans, orange chicken, and black pepper beef. Pretty damn good Chinese food. Once in a while, I also get dumplings.

I'm glad this place is still around, otherwise, finding a good delivery place here in Glendale would be close to impossible.

After a long movie in a very uncomfortable seat, my entourage and I wanted to get something to eat before we head home. Our first choice was the solid City Wok in Studio City.  Unfortunately, we found out they were only opened for dinner on Sunday.

So we decided head back home and was ready to drop off our first pal at Glendale. As we were getting ready bid him adieu, I was surfing the web via iPhone and found this place on Yelp. It was very close by from my friend's house and it was nothing but kudos from the local Yelpers who visited this place. That can't be bad.

It's about a few stumbling blocks away from the Americana shopping mall and down the street from Dave's Bar. It was even more super that it was only a few corner away from Mashti Malone where we later stopped by for ice cream dessert.

When we sit down, the restaurant was very clean and has a very classy look of a very fine Bistro dining place. It also has a very big window view of the street and gives a very romantic look. For a Chinese restaurant, I was quite surprised how the decor and ambiance reflect the elegance look compared to several of their neighboring restaurants (especially the Cuban restaurant down the street).

We looked over the menu to see if the lunch special was going to be enticing enough or should we settle for the pricey individual orders. We decided to get the group specials about 3 items with rice and noodle for $49.

For that Group special, it included:

*Sweet and Sour Soup http://static.px.yelp.... . Your typical double S soup that cleanse your palate before the meal.

*Sweet and Sour Pork http://static.px.yelp.... . You probably will be getting sick of anything sweet and sour after this. It was OK, but the batter was very thick and a bit on the hard side.

*Chicken with broccoli http://static.px.yelp.... . This was not bad, but it did suffer one thing. The vegetable was a little soft and makes it a bit on the bland side without any seasoning. It is still eatable, but not one of our desirable dish.

*Beef with Chinese String Beans http://static.px.yelp.... . The beef was cooked well done done, but it's the sauce that was very sweet and tangy. That is a killer for me where as they needed to lessen the sauce and concentrate more on seasoning the beef.

*Chow Mein http://static.px.yelp.... . Typical noodle without any meat. Very forgettable.

*Shanghai Fried Rice http://static.px.yelp.... . Never heard of a "Shanghai" Fried rice until it was served. It was listed in the menu as spicy, but it really wasn't. It was mixed with a curry to offset the taste. I actually like this dish, but having this rice as your favorite made it suspect in coming to a Chinese restaurant just for a fried rice.

I like the service here. They were very attentive throughout the meal and make it a fine dining experience that Lacques would be jealous of. It was also very cool to see a full bar being serviced here.

Overall, the ambiance, the decor, and the service was the big reason in coming here. The food just didn't match what it had going. It's a shame really because I think it would have been spectacular to find a place that have all these strong points at an area that doesn't have too many Chinese joints. Oh well, at least the locals like the food. At the end that's what it counts for them.
    --------

The restaurant do validate for parking at the garage parking lot next door.

I went out with the gay boys last night and after much debate, they decided to take me to their newly discovered favorite Chinese place (yes, they found it on yelp).

I remembered reading Mike L's review and thinking he said it was okay.

Well, sure it's okay but this is definitely not what you call authentic Chinese food.  Actually, I take that back, this is Authentic Americanized Chinese Food (AACF).

We started with eggrolls.  They had given us a bowl of fried noodles with sweet and sour sauce (to which I haven't really seen since a Westside Chinese restaurant-- I think this says a lot).  When the eggrolls arrived (which thankfully were not the giant all dough/wrapper NY kind), more of the sweet and sour sauce came with it along with hot mustard.  I watched the four boys slather away at the sauces.  I ate my two rolls plain.

It had a pleasant mushroom flavor and was actually fried correctly so it was nice to munch on.

We also had steamed dumplings (unfortunately not XLB but then again, maybe it wouldn't have been so great).  I prefer pan-fried dumplings (gyozas) but these were flavorful and I could eat these with just a bit of vinegar and soy sauce.

We shared three dishes; orange beef (who knew such a thing existed?), assorted seafood and chicken chow mein.

The orange beef was not spicy at all despite the whole red peppers on the plate.  I thought it actually needed to be fried longer because there was a bit of a powdery taste to the beef (probably from too much cornstarch).  It was definitely all breading and nary any beef.

I chose the assorted seafood which was presented well.  The waiter turned ladled the food onto a cast iron plate before it was served to us.  However, it turned out to be a lie as the plate was not actually cast iron and it was not hot at all. I felt the seafood was covered in too much sauce and slightly overcooked.  It was fine though.

The chicken chow mein was also very sauce-y.  The portion would only really be big enough for three people tops but the five of us shared it.  I suppose it was a good thing we had a big bowl of rice though it wasn't really very fluffy.

Service was definitely attentive and our water was constantly refilled.  I thought the staff was very nice.

I could probably browbeat them into serving me a less sauce-y meal but that wouldn't be AACF (authentic Americanized Chinese food).

I liked the white chocolate dipped fortune cookies though!  So I am glad for small "improvements" to my ancestral cuisine.

They also have a full bar and the menu featured some funny cockails.  There were virgin cocktails as well including Shirley Temples and Rob Roys.

Fortune Inn validates for the parking structure next door.

You can get the green beens separately! God, those things are good. I could eat a whole order by myself.

Their smoke flavored beef is really unusual. I've never seen it anywhere else. I think they fry the bits of beef because they've got a little bit of a crunch to them, and then douse it in a bright red sweet and smoky sauce.

The lunch specials are a really good deal. I could order one and have enough for two lunches, minus the green beans because I would devour the entire serving of them immediately.

Decent chinese food--particularly good by LA standards. I particularly like their spring rolls and their black pepper chicken. They don't really do the white meat thing if that is a sticking point for you, but if you ask they might hook you up for a buck or two extra. The service and ownership is rather friendly and the lunch specials are a very good deal.

Some unpleasant characters hang around in the alleyway between the restaurant and the Glendale municipal parking lot... My girlfriend didn't like walking though the gauntlet, so if that is a concern, go the long way around from Maryland Ave.

This place is pretty good!  I didn't like their chicken and broccoli -the chicken didn't have much taste and was sort of dry.  The Mongolian beef was pretty tasty though!  Great wonton soup -they don't skimp on the wontons!  I've also enjoyed their kung pao chicken, orange chicken, spring rolls and chinese spare ribs!

The first time I went to this place was in December and it was so memorable because they were playing a cd of Christmas carols sung by Asian kids who didn't speak English very well -it was the cutest thing!  And they when they started singing Feliz Navidad I almost fell off my chair laughing.....

Service is great and speedy!  Even the delivery is fast!

MMMMmmmm, I love me some Fortune Inn.  My family loves to come to this place (I think they even have like a frequent diner card that you might wanna inquire about).  The people that work there/own the place are super-friendly.  We had a birthday party there and they let us keep our ice cream cake in their freezer, and then cut it for us when we were ready.  (It is very family-style)

The food is delish.  They start you off with fried won tons and yummy sweet and sour dipping sauce.  There is also a fresh pot of hot green tea to pass around.  I have tasted many of the dishes, but my all-time fav. is the lemon chicken.  It is breaded chicken and they bring you a cup of lemon sauce to drizzle on it as you please.  Dishes are served with the best-ever green beans and rice.

Its a good place for groups...there is a big round table in the back that has a turn-style in the middle so everyone can share their dishes.  Crappiest part is the parking...you have to park in a lot down the street and get validated which is always a hassle, but hey, this place is pretty worth it!
