At first when my French Bulldog Meetup group moved from the South End to this park-I'll be honest-i was PISSED! Not so T accessible for a little rascal who can barely breathe in hot weather but now I have wheels so Simon can see his buds.
If you don't know about http://meetup.com than immediately go to the site NOW-goldmine....truly madly deeply. Anyone with any kind of interest can "meetup" with a bunch of other freeks (hahahha)with the same interests. For me it's numero uno the love of Frenchies-if ya don't know the breed - google "french bulldogs" LOVE LOVE LOVE my frenchie-and you will find most owners ADORE their bulldogs. They are not normal, they can only get so rambunctious in the heat (hey they have NO noses) but damn are they dedicated critters!!!!!!!!!!!
OK-yeah they were smart to chix fence the parts where the historic fence would allow a small dog to get out-Simon doesn't run away-just the opposite-a ripe old man at 6 years old, he needs his space after 15 frenchie youngsters are all over him. He prefers to roll with the uber big dogs hanging out by the cannon. and again needs his space in the shade.
As happy as we are to arrive-I'm relieved to leave. I love off leash parks but mostly when I know ALL dogs. We had an incident in BV at our local dog park where I thought Simon was dead after a very large dog literally had her jaw around his neck. both myself and owner could not get her off (i don't let Simon off leash until it's "all good" - he is not ALWAYS an angel) So he sees his crowd and I drop him off to go do MY shtick...to prepare for the week ahead!

Correction: The mounds form a half-moon, but the park is square.
THIS IS A DOG PARK and it's heaven on earth for responsible dog lovers. Retrievers frolick with Schnauzers. A little gargoyle-lookin' thing named Diesel reigns supreme. The flag bellows above and looms very large. The cannons serve as great back stops for sprinting dogs and runaway tennis balls. The humans try awkwardly to fit in, but the dogs are doing just fine.
It's the highlight of my weekday and the reason for being for my chocolate lab, Belle. She's leash-free and fancy free when we're here.
Some sort of unwritten ethical code is in effect where a good majority of owners clean up after their pets, leave tennis balls behind for communal use and poo bags and trash cans are conveniently located along the park fences.
If you drive here, there's always parking available nearby.

Very nice area. It's obvious that a pet-conscious person went around the park and blocked off all the areas where a small dog could escape.
Nice hills, neat cannons, good shade. Now, doesn't that sound like a sleazy pick up line?

This is a park in the Cambridgeport area of Cambridge across the railroad tracks from MIT's dormitories.
It is a circular park with mounds of earthwork in the middle and cannons from the revolutionary war. It is the only remaining ruin of the three earthwork forts commissioned during the Siege of Boston. A huge american flag flies in the middle of the fort.
Now the park is a popular place to let your pet dog run free and play catch with a friend.
Always tons of dogs there.
This park is now closed to dogs.
