We almost ran out of gas. So glad we didn't turn back around and head for the highway. Who would have thought that out in the middle of nowhere exists this majestic natural beauty. It doesn't quite compare to Smith Rock, but it has different geological characteristics. Don't get me wrong, I'm no geologist or mountain climber. Looking out the window in a tall window makes this girl woozy, much less climbing some mammoth rock.
But, this place is gorgeous. Natural beauty and magnificent. There are hiking trails, although we mistakenly took a few paths off the trail which turned out to not be paths. Who would have thought they would find ME climbing rocks on purpose??
There is an old pioneer cemetery just on the edge of the park also. My daughters were way creeped out that I asked to stop the car so I could go explore it. Gravestones and markers dated back to 1897 and include some recent area residents as well.
There's also a place just down the road where you can explore some original pioneer homestead buildings, church and schoolhouse that have all been moved to one site. It's only open on Saturdays so all we could do was look from afar.
We even found a gas station and country store.
