This is an exact replica (or as close as they could get) of the winter camp used by Lewis and Clark during their famous expedition. Situated along the banks of the Missouri, it gives you an idea of how they lived, men and animals alike, for the winter.

It is a small fort with a multitude of individual rooms along the inside walls.  They were really packed in and had to protect themselves from the Indians, who were not always friendly. There are a number of guides dressed in the proper costume who are more than happy to tell you all about the fort and its importance.

For someone interested in history, and who hasn't heard of Lewis and Clark, this place is something that must be seen. Just up the road is a brand new interpretative center which lays out the entire expedition in minute detail.
