At first take this old mansion and historic property might bring a yawn to your face, but there's a lot more to this place you should be aware of before you dismiss it.

If you're not really into the historic stuff or even the outdoorsy stuff being that it's located on the Susquehanna River, Fort Hunter has an awesome lineup of year round entertainment that is sure to please. I've attended all types of cultural events here, jazz concerts, and wine festivals among other things. Who knew?

I would suggest checking out their website and scrolling through the events calendar, you'd be surprised at all the stuff that goes on at Fort Hunter.

Fort Hunter is the most beautiful in the spring when all of the beautifully landscaped trees start to bloom and the river is high.  Even without touring the mansion, a trip to Fort Hunter can be a really nice way to spend a warm afternoon.  Overlooking the Susquehanna, sits the Fort Hunter mansion along with the old farm, and servants' quarters.

It's a beautiful place to take pictures or have a picnic, or just explore the river.

The mansion tour is interesting although you can't get as close to some things as you might like and you have to be really quiet.  It's interesting to see how people lived back then (I use the term back then because I'm really bad with knowing what period of American history stuff is).

I just recently visited this place over the summer, and for the first time, what a hidden treasure. Im so used to driving up 322 that I never knew this place existed. One day I had read about it in the patriot-news and decided to go there.

It was well worth the trip. They have a great picnic area, a covered bridge, a huge barn, rows of apple trees, a mansion, and a cool little working garden.

It's a great place to go and relax and just forget about things. You can walk the whole way down the the river if you take this small downhill path that's got bushes on either side, but you can just sit there and look at everything, maybe even fish if you like to. I didnt get to go on the tour, because it might have been on the weekend, but it was pretty sweet still.
