This was the perfect weekend getaway. The staff was extremely friendly, the beds were comfortable and the location was great.

Loved every aspect of this B&B!
We stayed at the Garrett Loft and it exceeded my expectations. Very cute and charming without being too shabby chic and overbearing.
We ordered breakfast to be sent up to our room the first day and they forgot but a quick phone call, a basket was sent up. No problem. They gave us warm bagels, raisin bread, biscotti, fresh fruit and orange juice.
Make sure to check in at Lamp Lighter Inn for your key, though it'll already state that on your invoice when you book. The front desk is very sweet and informative. -

First thing, check in at the lamplighter inn dont wait around at this location like we did.
We stayed at the Weston house, which is tucked away at the most quiet corner of this establishment. I cant imagine the street noises the other suites get.
We liked our room, liked the decor, loved the bed. But the entire stay felt more like a hotel stay than B&B, there's absolutely no personal touches whatsoever. They even forgot to deliver our breakfast the 2nd day we're there and claimed we should have called. I dont understand why we need to re-state our preference or call when we already state our preference upon check in that we want breakfast delivered. At $275 a night, I'm not too impressed. -

My brother stayed his wedding night at the Post Ranch Inn, for $2000. We obviously weren't going to stay there, too, so we went up to Carmel looking for our own little romantic place to stay.
Forest Lodge was classy, kind, and unique. We loved staying here and thought that our room (which was $170 a night) was just as great as my brother's room at the Post Ranch Inn (minus the view of course). : )
We loved it here and are talking about staying here again the night before our own wedding! -

Review from Nique F.
We loved Forest Lodge on our first stay in 2010, but our 2nd stay this year was disappointing. After staying in the Garrett Loft last year, we were completely sold on Forest Lodge. Everything was perfect. This year, the loft was taken so they suggested the Einstein Cottage. This cottage is so much less glamorous than the loft, yet they rent if for the same price (and it's not exactly cheap).
The Einstein Cottage seems it was built for tiny people and is quite uncomfortable. My guy kept hitting his head on the low ceilings, there was hardly room to walk around, and the layout of it is just odd. The bedroom backs right up to the street so you have to keep the blinds closed unless you want gawkers. The bed has a rickety wire frame that squeaks every time you move. I honestly felt like we were in a trailer, everything was so squished.
The Einstein Cottage is not terrible, it's just definitely not up to par with the rest of the property. They should definitely lower the price of Einstein, so people know to expect a little less.Listed in: Central Coast stuff you'll…

My 2 girlfriends from Pa. and I recently stayed at Forest Lodge in the Garrett Loft. We were in seventh heaven. What a cozy quaint place this is. Peggy, our hostess made our visit extra special with her bubbly and generous hospitality when we showed up for our evening wine and cheese and breakfast around the cozy outdoor fireplace at the Lamp Lighter Inn just down the road from the Forest Lodge.(Lamp Lighter Inn owns Forest Lodge)
The rooms were quiet and very clean, beds comfortable and the surrounding area beautiful.
I have stayed in several places in Carmel and this is absolutely my favorite place to stay so far.
Thanks Peggy for making it extra special. I'll be back again for sure. -

Just lovely .... all of it!
I called last-minute to book a same-day cottage, and the lovely person at the front desk offered me 40% a last-minute room. How could I say no? I booked it on the spot! Normally, we stay at Carmel Country Inn, which is also great, but you don't get your own cottage space, and is pricier.
We stayed at the Einstein Cottage, which is rumored to have housed Einstein himself at one point. Whether that's true or not, it's an adorable space and you really get a lot of square footage and style for your money.
Of course, the fact that they are super dog-friendly makes me love them even more :) My two pups had individual dog treat packages, toys, water dish, and a blanket waiting for them upon arrival. They were quite comfortable.
The bed was a tad hard for my taste, but it was fine.
Also, it should be noted that at least the Einstein Cottage is RIGHT on Ocean Ave, so you do hear traffic noise at all hours. It doesn't bother me, but it might other people. You do manage to feel incredibly secluded, as you're surrounded by brush and forest-y trees, lovely cottage neighbors, and a small grassy park area with benches and a walking path separating you from the road.
It takes maybe less than three minutes to walk to the main shopping and restaurant areas, and it's a quick 7 block hike to the beach. We were very, very happy here, and I plan on returning for a night or two in January. -

We just spent an idyllic 2.5 days at the Forest Lodge Cottages in a lovely garrett loft unit with our beloved dog. They treated the 3 of us royally with a welcome basket of huge dog blanket, bowl, water toy and canine treats. The room was attractively updated in cottage "classic" style and the package included a free breakfast at the Lamplighter Inn further down Ocean Ave where you check in. The location of the inn is actually a plus (although quite far from the beach) because the side streets make for great morning and evening walks. A MUST PLACE TO STAY for any dog lovers. We will be back - with or without our canine family member.

Ohmygod, I loved it here. We stayed in the Garrett Loft, which was adorable. I felt like I was in a tree house! Everything from the dessert wine to the nice soaps in the bathroom, to the ridiculously comfortable bed, was perfect.

I love, love, LOVED this place! It's owned by the Lamplighter Inn, and I think they recently renovated it, so the rooms are beautiful. We stayed in the Dali Suite, and were so happy with it! The suite was really bright and airy, with simple rustic furniture and decor, hardwood floors, and a beautiful gas fireplace. The bathroom was really big and bright with a huge tub and really nice natural stone tile work. I feel like many of the places we have stayed at in Carmel tend to be decorated in a frilly, flowery, old-lady style and this place was such a nice departure from that.
The cottages are really close to the downtown core, but also a very do-able walk to the beach, despite the killer hill on the way back! We went in the off-season, and they had really great discounts on rooms, which was a bonus. The staff over at the Lamplighter Inn, which is where you check in/out, and go for their complimentary wine and cheese time in the evening, were really friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going back there again! -

The Forest Lodge Inn is a wonderful place to stay in Carmel. We stayed 7 nights recently, 4 nights in the Dali House (a 2 room suite) and 3 nights in the Ocean Avenue Room and we felt very much at home.
They are extremely dog-friendly. They provided a very nice dog blanket, big enough so that I could spread it on the couch, allowing him to curl up next to me and protect the furniture at the same time. They also provided a dog dish, treat bag and dog toy. Very cool.
The Dali House is great. Very cozy and quiet. It was handy to have a little kitchenette with a fridge and microwave. The *only* downside was that the room the bed is in is very narrow, the queen size bed barely fits and you have to squeeze in, but this was not really a big issue and certainly didn't detract from the stay!
We moved to the Ocean Avenue room for the final 3 nights of our stay and I have to say that I had trepidations about moving to a smaller room, but it was great. Very roomy, very comfortable and cozy for a single room. There was also a fridge and microwave in this room, which was great as well.
For me, the location in Carmel was absolutely perfect. Steps away from all of the shops and restaurants, a nice little grocery store 1 block over, but also not right in the middle of the the crowds. It's a little 'tucked away', but by no means far from anything.
This B&B is highly recommended. The staff were great, very friendly and we also got a discount for the extended stay. -

Adorable! 3 of us stayed here for a night and there was plenty room. Very clean. We stayed in the Einstein cottage. The walk to the lamplighter (main inn) is not far if you have two functioning legs. Inge at the desk was so accommodating and friendly. The town is amazing and so is this location! Highly recommend. Wine and cheese tasting at the lamplighter was super nice. Ps- for $30 they will give you firewood, fire starter, lamps, chairs, wine, glasses, blankets, etc to go have a beach fire! FYI- you need to drive about 2 min to the beach. The negative ppl on here must be super uptight! This place made our stay incredible!

This place was AhMazIng!!!!!! We booked a last minute trip and the lady who booked it for my bf and I gave us a discount. The room was so cozy, it was decorated beautifully and it was so inviting, I don't know how anything could go wrong when your in Carmel but the Forrest lodge definitely made our trip. The bed was supper comfy and the shower and tub were great. If your looking to stay in Carmel do your self a favor save yourself time and frustration and stay here it's well worth it. The Forrest lodge is a part of the lamplighter inn so when you book you do it threw them, they will treat you good and will help you with any questions you have!!! Hope you enjoy your stay. i also gave the price range as pricey but with the discount she gave us it was very reasonable, however with out it, yes it is pricey.
PS we stayed in the westin lodge -

I'M IN LOVE WITH YOU, FOREST LODGE! Seriously, Lamp Lighter Inn and it's sister hotel, Forest Lodge, are by far the nicest B&Bs I've ever been to. I really wanted to stay at the Lamp Lighter for my birthday on Saturday based on their spectacular Trip Advisor reviews. They were all booked for Saturday, though, so I spent the first night at Forest Lodge and then moved to the Lamp Lighter for my second night. Yes, I'm weird like that.
I was worried that Forest Lodge would be inferior because it barely has any reviews on Trip Advisor but oh my god was it amazing! I honestly can't decide which place I like better, as they both had great perks.
For the first night my boyfriend, my puppy and I stayed at the Garrett Loft in Forest Lodge and it was massive. I loved the vaulted ceilings, the free sherry, the huge bathroom, the fireplace, the insanely comfortable bed and the fact that my dog literally had her own bedroom! Forest Lodge is a little bit further from the beach than Lamp Lighter (still only 6 blocks or so, though) but that definitely has its perks, as I slept like a baby that first night. I loved the secluded feeling I got being surrounded by trees and being just one block away from all the hubbub further down Ocean Ave. My only complaint is that I was so confused about finding my room. Check in is at the lamp lighter and Forest Lodge's rooms are labeled on these pretty pieces of wood by the doors. I was wandering around like an idiot for a good 10 minutes before figuring out the whole wood thing. Once I found my room though, I truly had no complaints about my experience. The hotel grounds are beautiful, the room is beautiful, and I loved getting tokens to Carmel Belle for breakfast because they allowed me to order whatever I wanted from a huge restaurant menu.
I ended up getting really attached to Forest Lodge and so I got a little nervous about the big move to Lamp Lighter. Again, I was not let down!! Lamp Lighter was a little bit louder since it's so close to the beach and the cute boutiques on Ocean. Also, our room, Sea Star, was smaller than Garrett Loft, though that was because I opted to have a jacuzzi vs a second bed. Our bathroom in Sea Star was clearly redone recently, which was awesome. I loved the faux-cobblestone flooring and that jacuzzi was excellent. Again, amazing bed, more free sherry and overall really high tech room. The owners even gave us an extra bottle of wine on top of the sherry. Also, staying at Lamp Lighter meant that breakfast was delivered to our room in a basket, which was a really nice touch, although, as previously mentioned, I did also love going to Carmel Belle the day before.
Really, both hotels are perfect and I have no idea where I'll stay next time.
Some other wonderful perks of both Lamp Lighter and Forest Lodge:
1. These hotels are, by far, the most dog-friendly places I've ever been to. BOTH nights we received a bag of treats, a free toy, a food dish and a dog blanket. There was also a water bowl in the courtyard, which was really convenient. Everyone in the staff was so sweet and welcoming to my dog! Truly shocking for me.
2. Free unlimited wine, cheese, crackers and fruit both days! Score.
3. Easy parking at both locations, which is impressive for Carmel-by-the Sea
4. Truly awesome, laid-back staff. Everyone we met was so friendly, helpful and genuine. What a breath of fresh air.
5. Both rooms we stayed in were STOCKED. I was really impressed with the amenities, as the B&Bs I've stayed at are generally pretty sparse as far as the in-room goodies. We had multiple extra blankets, great LCD flatscreen TVs, a fridge, a microwave, hot chocolate and coffee for days, free sherry, free water, cups, two sets of bath products, bath robes, and a whole mound of towels.
6. BEAUTIFUL hotel grounds. Everything is perfectly manicured and the architecture is straight out of a fairytale.
Lamplighter and Forest Lodge, thank you for giving me the best birthday weekend of my life! I'll never even consider going anywhere else in Carmel. -

I love this wonderful Inn! This is the 2nd time we've stayed and will for always be our inn destination for an annual trip to Carmel. The location is wonderful, quietly tucked into the trees. We stayed in the Garden room, which had plenty of room for us and our toddler, he even had his own little room. The decor is simple and charming, just what I imagine in a Carmel cottage. Everything was super clean and the bed incredibly comfortable. The outdoor tables and chairs for perfect for lounging. We even brought our own dinner back to the Lodge one night so we could enjoy the evening under the trees and stars. The breakfast spread (located at the sister inn, Lamplight Inn, just down the road) was tasty, and had just the right items for a simple breakfast. After enjoying Carmel and Monterey during the day, we looked forward to the wine and cheese that was provided each evening, what a bonus!!! I could stay tucked in here around the fire pit all night long! Thanks Forest Lodge - and to the warm and friendly staff (Mel and Peggy!) - for a wonderful stay!

My husband & I stayed at the Forest Lodge for a weekend get-a-way and I HIGHLY recommend it! The room was tastefully decorated, sweet, charming, and in the perfect location. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and guided us to the right spots. We were given tokens to exchange for breakfast at a local, organic cafe in the heart of downtown Carmel. The food & service were excellent. We loved the owners thoughtful consideration for the environment while remodeling the Forest Lodge. The cottages are nestled at the edge of town in a peaceful forested setting. It's an easy stroll down the street to shopping, restaurants, and the beach. I can't wait to return!
