Absolutely delicious.
One of the best meals we've had in a while. Very nice, simple, classy steakhouse with a casually relaxed vibe. The service is wonderful and the food!! Oh my goodness the food. It's so good...they don't skimp on the servings, either. We ordered appetizers, entrees, drinks, and dessert. Everything was fantastic (Even the salad!! All I kept saying was "MMM!! How is a SALAD this GOOD?!").
It is spendy, so know this going in to it. But don't be surprised, either - it's a steakhouse in Danville lol. But it's worth every penny. Splurge and enjoy. -

Was in Danville for the night. I'm always hopping around somewhere. And although I didn't get steak...my entree was still so gooood. I had the seafood risotto. It was made to perfection. Went well with my Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc.
The only small detail is my beet salad. The beets were thinly sliced and I prefer them a bit more chunky. Makes it easier to blend with my goat cheese.
OMG the chocolate cake is soft on the outside and melts inside. Mixed w/the gelato. Yummmy -

After our experience over at Ruth Chris, Hubby's hankering for a good cut of beef was still unsatisfied; so, I found Forbes Mill Steakhouse with the help of the Yelp crew.
Coming here on a Monday was great, right away, the gentleman in the front, Brent, was very welcoming and exhibiting a great sense of humor.
Sarah was great for just taking care of us and patient with all of our questions. There was another gentleman that helped her with the plate and the waters that we didn't catch the name of, but he was ultra-attentive.
So, now for the down-low:
Food was overall excellent:
- Hubby had the Caesar Salad which was just ok for him, but he enjoyed the lovely fresh bread and his Cowboy Bone-in Ribeye steak, w/mash potatoes and side of asparagus. He wished it was just chard more; which he later discussed with the Chef for the evening, Adam. Chef Adam said that he can always request a thicker cut and more char on the outside than the average. (I) Tasted his asparagus and they were perfectly crunchy and buttery (not overly buttered, but yummy).
- Our daughter, had the crab cakes for the appetizer and she tore right through them, one would think that I didn't feed my kid. Anyway, her kid's Mac & Cheese came and she wasn't extremely hungry, but she tried numerous bites from it and exclaimed that it the best Mac & Cheese she's ever had!
- I had the French Onion Soup to start and it was perfect - well balanced, not salty and the broth well done. I ordered the Prime Rib and it was just the way I loved it, seasoned well & a tiny bit of spice in the rub, tender, flavorful and so on....loved my mash potatoes too, I didn't care they had butter since it was mild enough not to clash with anything. Just call me Paula Deen! Oh, loved the broccolini too. Of course, I only managed to get 1/2 way thru the Prime Rib, but eating it 2 nights later was still awesome.
Hubby had the Kona Creme Brulee and the daughter had the dark chocolate gelato - both were stuffed afterwards.
Forgot to mention the atmosphere - it was a relaxed and unpretentious. The business people in the larger groups were talking, but we hardly heard them. It was cozy and more than comfortable.
It was a fantastic evening and if you're put off by high wine prices, bring your own in, corkage is only $18.
Can't wait to go back! Thank you, Forbes Mill! -

I don't eat red meat so I was hesitant about going here but I was pleasantly surprised with how wonderful everything was. I started with the beet salad and my husband got the caesar. The beet salad was phenomenal and my husband loved his caesar. All of the seafood selections looked amazing but I settled on the salmon and was happy with my choice. The wasabi mashed potatoes were so tasty and went well with the miso salmon. It also came with a side of bok choy. For dessert we split the banana bread pudding which was the perfect end to the meal.

By far my favorite steakhouse in the Tri-Valley. It has a nice, classy ambiance that works well for family dinners as well as more romantic outings. The steaks are excellent and cooked to perfection.

Amazing service! The chopped salad was very tasty. I'm not sure I'd order the Forbes Mill Trio again, while good it was a lot of food and the steak was fine, but not fantastic. However, the carrot cake (which we brought home to eat) was amazing! Great atmosphere, great service.

Wow this place was fabulous!
We had my sons 40th birthday party there. The service was top notch!
We had great salads. Mostly ala carte menu.
Quite an extensive steak menu!
For a large party, they had several people waiting and busing for us.
The steak I had, could be cut with a fork..melted in my mouth! Everyone in our party felt the same way.
The wines were excellent!
I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a special evening. Relaxing, romantic and superb food!
Save for that special night out. I think you should plan on $75. per person for a glass of wine and desert with your dinner.
A definite to keep on my dining list! -

I absolutely love this place - so much I have to review it again. I'm a big fan of steakhouses and have eaten at all of the good ones on the west coast - with Forbes Mill being in the top three (beat out Ruths Chris!). I took my boyfriend here to celebrate our anniversary and they had a custom menu for us upon arrival. The service is fantastic and the food is even better. We had salads, filets and, of course, dessert! The waitress brought us out a complimentary dessert for our anniversary - the Kona coffee creme brulee - which was by far the best I have ever had. The price is just right for the quality of the food. Enjoy!

I'll have to come back with people that I actually like because the bad company affected my appetite and my ability to fully enjoy my meal. Despite the unsavory company the small amount of my lunch that I did eat was superb. My filet almost melted in my mouth and the wedge salad was chock full of goodness, the waiter indulged my long rant about how I wanted my steak cooked and it was so very close to perfection.

This was my second visit, the first being quite enjoyable. This time, we did have reservations (for 5), but we were not seated until 30 mins after our resevered time. The service was amazing and the prime rib was excellent. I would definetly go back!

Danville, CA
The service, food, and ambiance here are terrific!
I had the filet mignon, and it was really tender! I did wish that it was a little bit juicer... it just lacked the burst of flavor that really makes your taste buds tingle.
My friend ordered a trio of food that came with a wine pairing.. it was a bit pricey but that is expected. Her meat was not very good and looked very dry... next time I'll advice her to stick to the steaks.
If you are looking for a good steak in Danville, this is the place to be. It's located in the Livery so you can take a nice stroll before/after dinner.
Definitely try this place out, but be prepared to shell out some dough! -
Review from Roche C.
Union City, CA
Pricey but worth it!
The location is very elegant yet it has a nice casual feel. The servers are very attentive; never a glass empty!
My husband always orders the steak here and he rants and raves about it. I've tried the meat, but I'm just not a huge fan of the iron taste of steak. Despite this, I can attest to the high quality of meat that they serve here; it just melt in your mouth. The prime bone-in rib eye is too big for one person, in my opinion. My husband (who can eat a lot of meat) had to take home about half of it, and our dog had a very good steak that night.
We've only ordered the calamares as appetizer here. It's good, and I love the parmesan cheese they top the calamares with.
The caesar salad is standard, the spinach salad is wonderful minus the horrid cheese.
I always get the seafood (fish) specials, and I of course can't remember what they're called. They're extremely good but very rich.
As for the alcohol, they have a good selection of wine and they have a fully stocked bar. My husband has had the wine pairing with his meal and I've had martinis here and absolutely love it.
My husband took me here for my birthday this year and I liked how they printed Happy Birthday with my name on their specials menu. It was a simple gesture, but I appreciated it. They also gave me a complimentary cheesecake and chocolate mousse sample dessert, which again was very much appreciated.
The Kona coffee creme brulee is probably one of my favorite desserts anywhere! The strawberry shortcake (a special) was good, but it wasn't spectacular. My husband loves the chocolate mousse with the raspberry sauce (he orders more on the side).
Thank you, Forbes Mill, for always making our dining experience an absolute delight! -
Review from Alexis M.
Let me start by saying I am NOT a fan of Ruth Chris. I dislike most "chain" restaurants in general but there is just something really wrong about a chain steak house. It's just too Outback for me.
So, I was very excited to try Forbes Mill.
We had a wonderful experience and our server was fantastic.
I started with the Forbes House salad, which was simple and light, exactly what I was looking for.
My friend was intrigued with a salad that was on the prix fixe menu but didn't want the entree from it. The waitress allowed her to order just the salad, which was great.
Hubby got the pear and Gorgonzola and enjoyed it as well.
I always feel silly and rude asking the waitress if things are gluten/wheat free but our waitress was very nice about and totally understood that some things are thickened with flour, etc...so she checked on everything for me.
I had the petite filet and shrimp and ordered a side of asparagus for the table. The filet was like BUTTER! It was so soft and tender and flavorful. Perfect!
Hubby had the 20 oz prime rib. It was very good but had a lot of fat that needed to be trimmed so the 20 oz moniker was little misleading. It was definitely not 20 oz of edible meat.
My girlfriend got the swordfish and I tried a bit and it was wonderful.
I didn't see what her hubby got and I was a little buzzed at this point so I didn't even pay attention! Her hubby got the 4 and 4 with the peppercorn sauce which I'm told was excellent.
For dessert I got the Creme Brulee which was confirmed wheat free. Hubby got the apple crisp and our friends shared the chocolate lava cake for two. All desserts were fabulous.
My only complaint about Forbes Mill is the outrageous wine list. It's very extensive but there are maybe a handful that are under $50. Not everyone is a wine snob and not everyone wants to spend $70+ on a bottle of wine, regardless of their income. But more than the fact that there were few reasonable priced wines on their list, is that the mark ups were OUTRAGEOUS and just plain greedy. Anyone who knows even a little bit about wine, can clearly see the markup is 100% or greater!
We happen to love wine and usually don't have a problem paying for a good bottle but the mark up is INSANE! Rombouer Chardonnay was $68! Caymus Napa Valley was $160! I just bought the same vintage Caymus for $60. A $100 mark up is DISGUSTING and off putting.
We chose to pay the $18 corkage fee and brought our own wine.
The only reason I didn't drop the review to 3 stars because of the overpriced wine list is because they were great about chilling our white and decanting our red. I did appreciate that.
All in all a great local steak house, but be prepared to pay insanely marked up prices for wine or bring your own. -

My husband brought me here for our anniversary dinner and I have to say that I do like this place! It is located in a very nice area, the service was very good, and the food was delicious. They definitely do not skimp on the portions here. The ambiance of the place is classy but neither my husband nor I felt weird for dressing casually. I saw all different types of customers dining here, from the girls on a night out (a la SATC), date night couples, to families with children here. The prime rib I ordered was excellent and I had to take it to go and eat it for lunch the next day. I was very impressed with their wine list, or book, I should say.

I ate there couple months ago and I just realized I forgot to leave a review. Shame on me. My wife and I went there for our anniversary and it was a great experience. They even made a custom menu for us with our names on it and wishing us a happy anniversary.( I didn't request anything like this. It was a total surprise) We still keep it.
Staff is great and friendly, food is phenomenal. One of the best steaks in Bay area. Highly recommend it. -

Been meaning to revisit this steakhouse for some time now. Father's day dinner seemed like as good a reason as any.
The staff remains friendly and professional.
The food is still solid.
The overall experience also solid.
Most importantly, my family (and obviously my father) had a great time and a great meal.
Way to stay consistent, Forbes Mill Danville! Also, nice job on my kobe new york strip. :DListed in: Bay Area Steakhouses

Good quality of food, but just another pricey steakhouse. Sorry, too many competiting steak houses in the Bay Area.
Everything is done right, but nothing special here. If you want to talk straight food, it's 4 stars, but the place lacks luster to me. Very friendly staff and service, which is noteworthy. -

Papa Ben is 80! So we set off to try again to celebrate at Forbe's Mill .... although it was Valentine's weekend. Yes we made reservations WAAAAYYY back a month or so ago.
The food was between ok and good. The appetizer sirloin tips were amazing in a "Don't wake me up, i'm eating a bite of heaven" kind of way. The ahi was not good...really weird texture and not-so-nice fishiness. My filet was again very good. Paired very well with the Nickel and Nickel Cabernet suggested by our server. My husband had some surf and turf with prime rib I think-it was a little stringy and just ok.
This should've been a four star review except for one thing. Do the servers get a spiff or bonus paid on the Kobe beef? Our guy was pushing it so hard it was annoying and at one point got a little confrontational with someone in our party. :( Needless to say, no one ordered the Kobe beef and our server seemed a little put out. SO WEIRD!
Dessert was good-tried the lava cake and the apple crisp YUMMAY!
Papa Ben enjoyed the sampler plate they put together for him.
A very memorable evening with one of my favorite people...except for the Kobe beef hucking server.1 Previous Review: Show all »

One of the best steak houses I've been to in the east bay, BUT
Be prepared for the price - me and 3 friends went there with a 250 gift certificate and burned through that and still spent 50 bucks a man! That's what we get for ordering the surf and turf without a price next to it! If I had the money to blow, I would deff go back! -

We went back recently after visiting the restaurant three years ago. I wanted to go into the city for a special occasion meal, but had to stay locally to accommodate an elderly relative. I was expecting to pay a whole lot of money from our past experience, but was very surprised to have a an enjoyable meal of salad, steak/lobster, dessert and wine for about $80 per person. Both ambiance and service were great.
Minus one star for not having the hostess manning the front desk when we arrived. We felt rather awkward standing around and waiting.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Could there be a cooler town on the planet than Danville? I always look forward to my visits to Northern Cal so I can experience more of what this little city has to offer.
Latest discovery -- Forbes Mill. I met up with a former co-worker and his wife who recommended this place while I was in town on a business trip. Our dinner was delicious.
I started with the baby spinach salad with strawberries and local goat cheese. The cheese was amazing, with a little vein of bleu-cheesy-ish flavor threaded through it. Smooth and rich, it was the perfect compliment to the fresh strawberries and spinach.
For my entree, I chose the Mahi Mahi special served with jasmine rice, and a burre blanc sauce. The fish was perfectly cooked, tender and moist, but just a little light on flavor. A dash of table salt helped, though. -

My new favorite steakhouse... My girlfriend told us about this spot. Aged steaks, hand-selected... didn't know what that meant until the host oriented us to the menu... I had the rib-eye with au gratin potatoes and broccolini & I savored every, single, bite... SO good! My boyfriend had the NY steak & it was the best he ever had as well ...

I didn't even know this place existed until I was taken here for a surprise Valentine's dinner last night!! Good choice love!!
I was surprised that there was actually a nice restaurant this side of the Caldecott that we have not already been to! We've exhausted all of our Walnut Creek options, Lafayette, Orinda, San Ramon, and I thought even Danville, but apparently not!! This place had a nice atmosphere, awesome service and plenty of tasty menu and cocktail choices.
Last night they had a 4 course set menu option available for couples, they had a prix fixe 3 course menu, a surf n' turf option and everything else that they normally offer on their regular menu. All options available with wine pairing or carefully selected wine flights.
I chose the prix fixe 3 course and I was so glad I did! I got to sample slow roasted venison, grilled mahi mahi, and filet mignon. All three were yummy, I've never had venison before and was curious what it would be like. It was... different... than what I expected, haha. I thought it would be gamey!! It wasn't!! I happen to like gamey!! The filet mignon stood out above the rest because of it's intense flavor and texture. I would totally go back just for the filet mignon. My handsome date ordered a 20 ounce prime rib. When his dish came out it looked like it was fit for a caveman it was so HUGE!!! We also shared my appetizer (mushroom stuffed ravioli) and ordered ahi to start off our meal as well. Dessert was a light, cakey, tiramisu.
From cocktails all the way through dessert, Forbes Mill Steakhouse delivered with service, ambiance, quality and QUANTITY! Extra kudos for the waiter bringing me a rose at the end of our meal. Add that to the 3 dozen that I got delivered to me at work earlier that day, and I raked in a total of 37 long stemmed red roses yesterday!! :D Score!!! -

best place for extremely expensive steaks in the bay area. I truly enjoy the food here, the salads are great and the main dishes are even better. No complaints about the service either, my only thing about thiss place is that they never tell you the price of the specials but as a rule of thumb I always expect it to be around 60 bucks so I'm never surprised because it has always been below that for the special main dishes :). I love going here with my wife on a date night when we have not eaten much during the day because the portions here are very generous unlike most fine dining places. I highly recommend this place if you are on a date or if you're in the mood for some awesome steak

Ladies and gents, this is THE place for fine dining in the Danville area. Forbes Mill has a reputation for being an excellent steakhouse with high end prices and so my credit card was begging me not to go. He put up quite a fight for a piece of plastic but at last I told him to take a swipe!
I've tried the seafood risotto and was quite pleased by it though I really like the Pear and Gorgonzola salad - it's a must have before your steak feast. The portion is not much for entrees, a given for true steakhouses, so I will not starve myself all day before coming here.
As for the atmosphere, I always feel under dressed when I eat here so next time I am going fully decked out with monocles and a walking cane. If my date is not impressed, well I just might catch some cougars' eyes there! [Note: Cougars are a privilege, not a right] -

It's incredible how much the service at a restaurant can influence your meal. The other night my husband and I had the most incredible dinner at Forbes Mill Steakhouse. My first experience wasn't so great, but I came back looking to be wowed. The verdict? The food = superb. The service = celebrity status.
We had a wonderful conversation with Sommelier, Jeremy Vassalo, who decanted a bold red tableside, and shared some stories about his new favorite wineries.
For an appetizer, we shared the crab cake. Having lived in Boston for several years, I wanted to see how it measured up to my all-time favorite crab cake eatery: King Fish Hall. The cake was crispy, warm, and full of sweet lump crab meat (no fillers), and in one bite stole the title from King Fish Hall.
I've been a vegetarian for a little over a year, but couldn't say no to their filet mignon, cooked rare, with garlic, mashed potatoes. It was like heaven in my mouth. I won't apologize, because it was one of the best cooked steaks I've ever enjoyed.
Managers Kevin Gordon and Brent Redford are great at what they do and truly made the night a memorable one. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fine dining experience.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Yum Yum Yum. Came here for my boyfriends birthday. Didn't make a reservation because we weren't sure when we wanted to eat. Got there around 730pm and the hostess said they didn't have a table ready until eight so we headed to the bar. The bar was very spacious, so we actually ended up eating there with no complaints at all.
Started with the calamari. It was lightly breaded, crispy and delicious.
He ordered the steak and lobster. Lobster was cooked perfectly, steak didn't need any sauce (he needs sauce on everything). I got the filet and prawns. Prawns came in a yummy sauce, my filet was cooked just like I like. The only problem I had was my food was a little cold. It might have been just me, but I like my food piping hot!
We had the kona creme brulee because all the reviews said it was good. YES it was. Get this is you love creme brulee (like he does) Served with a little crispy waffle crisp. Perfect ending to our great meal.
We will forsure go back. We had great food, great wine and a great time. Plus it is very close to home. -

We like this place!
When I think of heading out to a fancy steak dinner, Ruth's Chris, Bings & Flemings pop into my head. Forbes Mill Steakhouse is now added to the list as a great contender.
We met here for a birthday celebration and were not disappointed. Our party of 6 had prompt service in the *cougar bar*, and the drinks were excellent.
When we were shown to our table, we were happy to see our birthday boy's name displayed on the menu - nice touch! The menu also included one of my favorite items, which is a 3 course price fix offering at $42.00. I didn't take advantage of it though, as the chef was cooking up a special I couldn't resist.
We sampled, traded & passed a bunch of apps:
- Chili pepper prawns: very flavorful, and not uber spicy
- Oysters on the half: an excellent value at 13.00 & very fresh
- The Wedge: This I should have skipped. It was overdressed, and there were more interesting options (my bad)
- Complimentary bread basket: always a table fave
For dinner, I was lucky enough to snag one of the last 2 "chef's specials". This was just a marvelous dish of sliced filet, served over roasted potatoes with brussel sprouts, corn & portobello mushrooms. The sauce was a rich reduction and made the entire dish. I loved it. I didn't share, & I saved enough to bring home for lunch (hidden away from the hubby). It was just as good warmed up.
We topped off the dinner with a beautiful tawny port & a slice of cheesecake I could have done without (the cheesecake, not the port). One of the best parts of the evening was our server. He was so attentive, and friendly. We will absolutely head back here again.Listed in: Best Bay Area Cocktails/Cosmos, Steakhouses

I always say that customer service is what makes or breaks a restaurant. Here at Forbes Mill, customer service is bar none. We had the pleasure of being served by Antonio. From the moment we got to our table to the moment we got our bill, Antonio was more than phenominal throughout our dining experience.
For starters, we did the trio apps with half a dozen oysters, crab cakes and the seared tuna. WOW. The oysters were great and fresh. The crab cakes were excellent. The seared tuna was perfect. And the portions were more than generous. The appetizers were a great deal. Any 3 apps for $34! And they serve the full portions! Not like some places where they put together a combo and only serve you 2 or 3 pieces. Definitely a plus!!
For our main course, we both went with the prime rib. The huge pieces of beef were wonderfully seasoned with Hawaiian sea salt. I thought my prime rib was perfect. Very close to HOPR!! My GF thought hers was a little too salty.
For our sides, I went with the creamed spinach. Can I just say.. bacon DOES make everything better. My GF got the mashed potatoes and we both shared the Mac and Cheese. The Mac and Cheese... oh man. I'm not a big fan of Mac and Cheese, but this is possibly the one time that I could not get enough of this stuff. Had I not been so full from the 20 ounces of Prime Rib, I could have finished off the rest of the cheesy concoction.
With that being said, we had no room for dessert. But that's where Antonio swoops in for the save. He insisted we tried the Kona Coffee Creme Brulee. Thank God there are servers out there that are passionate and knowledgeable about their menu. We were absolutely blown away with the Creme Brulee. If you come away with anything from this review, PLEASE get the Kona Coffee Creme Brulee. You will not be disappointed!!!
Go to Forbes Mill and experience their greatness. The food, the customer service, and the CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! -

We were here on valentine's day. The table were mostly set to be a doble seated. There were a lot of couples celebrating this day and I'm on of them.
The waitress was helpful but a little slow. It looks like she has to take care of other section away from where we were seated too.
My bubby ordered the Filet mignon and it was just so good.
I got the crab crusted sea bass, the sauce was so good, just the way I like. Everything seemed to be great on my plate until I reach the middle part of the fish. It's actually warm but I felt it was a little uncooked. But over all it was GREAT. -

GREAT GREAT PLACE!
I came here with my parents for dinner and my dad ordered rib eye steak and my mom and I got filet mignon. Rib-eye was perfectly cooked for my dad, and my mom's filet mignon was perfect for her too except for mine. I had asked for medium rare but when I cut the middle, I realized that it was pretty much medium well-done. So when we told our waiter, he immediately brought it back into the kitchen and they cooked a perfect medium rare filet mignon. And it tasted PERFECT! It definitely melted in my mouth!
As for desserts, we ordered coffee creme brulee and sorbet ice cream. Brulees were a little too sweet but sorbet ice cream tasted very good after eating my steak. Definitely should get it afterwards!
And when we got our check, we saw that they didn't charge my filet mignon because they had messed up. Amazing service! I would definitely come back here again! Very satisfied. -

I have eaten here twice now with two different people and I had the same menu items both times. The Kobe beef and lobster! It is delicious and mouth watering, cooked to perfection. The lobster and steak were definitely melt in your mouth.
The first time I went we ordered way too many sides and they give you plenty. It was also pretty empty but at the fault of my date we did not get there til after the restaurant was supposed to close.
The second time I went, it was super packed on a Saturday night, luckily we had reservations.
It is a classy place! Real nice! Service is good! I can't wait to go back!
