Nice shop. They had Euro Socks. For about 20 bucks.
Everyone was really nice (I think the term "Hella" could be applied here, since it's NorCal, but... eh.)
Large selection of stuff. Kinda pricey, but your at the mountain, so "durrr".
Might be worth checking out again.

I was expecting to see Kevin Bacon here because the name is Footloose, named after his #1 movie of all time. Instead I found good deals on Mammoth gear, beanie caps, gloves and rentals. This place has a decent children's wear selection for those of you shopping for little ones. I got my niece a Mammoth hoodie, with a dog sled iditarod logo. She loved it! Therefore, I love it, too.
Service is great here, but I've had good service all around Mammoth. Hmmm....I wonder if I can find a job here?

W-E-A-K.
I'm a snowboarder, and I made the mistake of coming here with my skier friends, not knowing this was a "ski-only" shop. They actually had a few snowboards in the window display, so I asked the guy up front where they have the rest of their boards. The guy replied "we don't carry those here," and then after I thanked him and started to walk away he yelled out "WRONNNG SHOP."
Dude, don't be a dick about it. It's like he was trying to be all hard in front of his fellow ski cronies. Douche.

This may only apply for the 2007-2008 season...
Look for Mammoth coupon books lurking somewhere in your hotel lobby or pamphlet stand.
Free machine wax with coupon...for your snowboard or skis, not your crotch straggling curly fries.

I love this place, it's one of the best ski stores in Mammoth. Very professional, very knowledgeable, the staff greet you as you walk the door. The reviewer below Joanna G. claims that a staff member was rude to her, well, I don't believe that. Bad attitudes get bad attitudes in return.
If you ever have a problem with a ski boot that is affecting your skiing, these guys can even fix the problem there and then. If you bring in a coupon from the Mammoth coupon book, they will wax your skis for free. If your skiis need repairing and tuning, one of the technicians will explain, and show you, what is wrong and how they fix it. They keep their ski rentals right by the door.
I always make a point of waiting till the end of the season to check out the sale items. In summer, they convert the store for the mountain bikers.

Pretty nice place. We were really pleased to find such knowledgeable staff. I wish I had caught the guy's name but he has been there for about 13 years. He really seemed to know what he was talking about and the husband and I both walked out with new Lowas. There were several other staffers hanging around and they too seemed to know their game. We almost wondered if we were being swindled cuz we overheard the younger salesman try to talk this mom and daughter out of a pair of shoes that didn't fit right. Told them he wouldn't feel morally right selling those shoes to them! Then this other lady, a local, came in and patiently waited for our salesguy as she said, he was the best there is! Sheesh! Reminder me of an I Love Lucy episode. We are happy with the boots. Touch wood!
Thanks to the guys at Footloose, I have functioning boot heaters that do not cause stabbing-a-needle-in-your-eye pain. Having spent a number of apres ski sessions in there having one of the nice knowledgable techs make micro adjustments to my boot liners, I'm in awe of their ability to work past the collective smell of so many feet and ski boots.
For boot fitting issues, boot heaters, liners and the like, they're the best in Mammoth. They are primarily ski focused, as evidenced by the equipment and clothing you pass by en route to the boot fitting end of the store. However, if you're a skier in need of some boot help, do check them out after a day of skiing at Mammoth. Your feet will thank you.

It would be a five star place if they had any kind of breaks on their prices, but seeing as they're right in the heart of town, you're paying full price on all new equipment. But it's worth it because of their service. They take a great deal of time fitting you into new boots, letting you demo them, adjusting them free for a year after that(longer if you ask politely), and explaining to you how to properly use your new equipment. The staff is friendly, they have anything you need as a skier(poles, boots, helmets, skis, bindings, repair, tuning, clothes etc etc). You pay a mountain tax for everything, but the flip side is that it's always nearby for exchanges or complaints.
summer review! :0)
Footloose is bike shop extraordinare in the summer and a great place to rent equipment. Look for discount coupons around town. We like to get the bike trailer attachment for our tiny offspring and head out on the town trails on our mtn bikes for an afternoon of family fun. This is also one of the only places that I've found that has small bikes for petite girlys like yours trully as well [I'm 5"2].
2 notes for the summer 08 season, first the town trail that goes up the scenic side of meridian is mysteriously "closed for construction" and second the mountain re-did the downtown trail. The trails are in great shape BTW.
These guys know ski boots like no other. I went in and described a problem I was having and the guy knew how to solve it without even looking at my boots. Then he looked at them to make sure, and he was right. Boots were too big. Their fitting system is very involved and takes a lot of factors into consideration. They may cost a little bit more than other shops, but you can be sure you'll get boots that fit. Their custom foot beds are expensive, but well worth it if you ski a lot. Their clothing selection is small, but I was there at the end of the season, so it may have been better earlier in the season. They have a great demo program for trying out gear before you buy it. They have almost no snowboard gear, which is nice if you ski, but may not be the best place to go if you need equipment for both skiers and boarders,

The best custom fitting I ever had! If you get foot-f*@%, shin-bang or any other foot malady these guys will set you straight.
