When I want a good time with zero frills, strong (yet still tasty) drinks and live music (on Saturdays), I'll head here with a friend or two.
It's the absolute definition of a neighborhood dive bar. Whether you like it or not, it's there to stay. I tend to fall on the "like it" side of the fence.
Sometimes there is free food too. I mean, this is assuming you're buying a drink - which I hope you are - otherwise, why exactly are you here? So far I've been too wussy to try the food though.
Maybe I'm just not drinking enough.
Ugh! They had a sign up recently that said, "New management", so we thought we'd check it out. Unfortunately it's the same crappy music (too loud to talk) and food that everybody is afraid to eat. The good news is you can probably score some meth or crack in the back. Just don't have it on you when the cops showed up like they did when we were there.
I'll be the first to say I'm not a fan of bars, but this one is magic. And at a 3 minute drive from my house, it's the perfect neighborhood bar. When you walk in, you feel like you're sitting in someone's house. I've never been to Mexico, but my boyfriend said it gave him a nostalgic feeling of being there. The ladies behind the bar are so friendly and know how to make a great margarita. How can you go wrong with $2.50 margaritas during happy hour?
On Tuesdays they serve BBQ ribs and on Thursdays it's oysters. Did I mention it's on the house with the purchase of any drink? And they don't skimp on the portions, either. We had a full dinner of ribs, beans and tortillas. I can't attest for the oysters, but I want to try them. One Sunday there was menudo for anyone who was interested. Yum!
The jukebox is filled with jams from Sublime to Vicente Fernandez (boyfriend's top choice). If you go on a night that they don't serve food, luckily for you there's a delicious Mexican restaurant a few stores down!
Just grab some friends and prepare to have a fiesta!
9 something on Thursday night:
"My nap ran late today, you wanna do something?"
20 minutes later:
"I need a drink"
"I'm tired of Chili's"
"Foothill Lounge?"
All too soon after:
"...Yo se perder, yo se perder, quiero volver, volver, volver..."
This is what you would want in a bar: stiff drinks, old classics on the jukebox and no bullshit. It is a true neighborhood bar. I wish there was a good dive bar downtown. Any suggestions, let me know.
I'm in love with the Foothill Lounge, as it is a part of my history. Located in my old stomping grounds of Evergreen, I have many a treasured memory there. Cheap, strong drinks, good friends, and a lil patsy cline or otis redding on the juke. The girls that work the bar are so friendly they even cook sometimes and bring it in to share! One night I'd drank quite a bit, and they went in the back and heated up some tacos for me! My favorite is when the mariachis come in and play some jams! I wish I could go more often, but I cant walk home from there anymore. :(
