Foodtopia, a huge buffet-style restaurant in the ground floor of a downtown Baltimore office building, seems prepared to live up to its name.  A colleague and I, stranded at the Convention center for a workshop, didn't have time to hit any of the overpriced brew pubs near the water, nor could we stomach Cheesecake Factory or other national chains.  We wandered up to Baltimore Street and found this yes,"foodtopia" of nearly every kind of cuisine.  A diverse lunch crowd waited in line for soul food, hundreds of salad bar and vegetarian entrees, and delicious Indian curries.  I piled my tray with grilled vegetables and asparagus, an avocado/citrus salad, and a firey chick-pea curry with rice.  My coworker, having a higher metabolism, couldn't resist the baked mac and cheese.  

Salad bar choices are priced by weight, but we still got out of there for under $8 each.  On Saturday, we went back, only to discover that Foodtopia is open for breakfast and lunch only, Monday through Friday.  If you happen to be in Charm City during the work week, don't pass up a chance for this great value, as well as a glimpse at Baltimore beyond the tourist traps.
