God, I never used to eat vegan cheese. Well, rarely. Well, like once a week or something. And now everyday with a different vegan cheese. It's dumb! I need to stop. But Food Fight is such a pretty blue and the staff actually makes out with you, so I keep going back.
::pops a breath mint::
Food Fight rules!
They have outstanding customer service and I'm amazed at how fast we receive our orders all the way across the continental US.
We turn to Food Fight! when we need any specialty vegan treat that we can't find in our neighborhood stores. I mean, Foodswings in Williamsburg carries the Ricemellow stuff, but for non-sweet things? Food Fight mail order.
The vegan caviar is the favorite in our household. It's made of seaweed and has the texture and bite of good caviar, and it's got a longer shelf life and is non-reactive to metal spoons! Oh, and it never gets fishy. At 2 calories and only 9% RDA for sodium per serving, it's a fine addition for almost anyone's diet.
I hope they get ambitious and open a grocery in NYC!

have i SERIOUSLY not reviewed food fight yet? holy moley! food fight is fantastic. a vegan's junk food dream, dipped in chocolate, and rolled in fake meat. sounds disgusting, and it is, but delicious all the same. this is were i first discovered primal sticks. the vegan slim jim. and i almost wish i never did because i crave them all the time. i got these samosa treats that were little pastries with sweet, spicy, and savory fillings. canned curry seitan! that stuff was toooooo good. we also got a couple of those boxed indian food meals that you just heat up and put over rice. thank god this place isn't closer to me or else i would never get any substantial nutrients.

okay so i'm not a vegan; i'm not a vegetarian. this will hereby yelp-cockblock every whiner who claims that veg* people only like it for these reasons, so there.
okay so we can talk about the nachos. they're awesome. screw 7-11. i don't care if there's as much fat in these, it's not hydrogenated. plus these taste better, so really, screw 7-11.
we can talk about that they don't gouge you on primal strips. seriously good eatins'; see also the vegan packaged ramen cheapo, too. why do primal strips taste so good? i don't know, dear readers, i don't know.
i can get vegan jel in seattle. it's a lot of dough, however, and it requires giving whole foods (and at that a specific snotty out-of-the-way location of whole fools) a lot of money. food fight had this wonderous stuff for half as much.
their staff's lovely. not too distant, not too touchy, and they often know where to get something if they don't have it. however as i tend to be in the market for baking supplies and snacks when visiting, i'm all set.
to be perfect, they'd need more brands and kinds of tofu...no, seriously, being from a tofu-centric culture that selection ain't cutting it. the produce prices are a tad steep but they finally have produce and it looks really good, so i'll shut up. it's still sorta cramped. however, guys and gals and non-gendered-persons, they'd get five stars for the goddamned vegan ham log on its own.
I wanted to make some vegan panna cotta. Your basic panna cotta recipe calls for gelatin, which as we all know is a mouth-watering mixture of hooves and skin and other treats. Not so vegan. But the thing is, panna cotta is all picky and Italian and delicate, and agar-agar just wasn't going to cut it (too stiff). But lucky for me, I live in San Francisco, which is like vegan paradise, right? Or so I thought...
I called EVERY SINGLE health food store and co-op in SF, Berkeley, and Oakland, looking for vegan jel (which is vegan gelatin-substitute). No luck. I decided to suck it up and pay for shipping and check online. I was thrilled to see that Food Fight normally carries it, but the site said they were out of stock. There were other options out there but I love Food Fight and always have since the evening years ago when I first discovered their site and stayed up almost all night reading old posts from their blog.
I wrote to FF asking when they might have more, and received an extremely prompt reply thanking me for alerting them to the fact that they hadn't updated their vegan jel section. They did have it in stock! I ordered some immediately and it arrived promptly a few days later, complete with a handwritten thank-you scrawl across the invoice.
Fun site with a lovely aesthetic that's easy to navigate, great selection, terrific customer service - now, thanks to Food Fight, we ALL can live in vegan paradise!

I never should've moved away from Portland. When I'm visiting, I make a point to buy as much as I can here to support this amazing business.

Food Fight has long been the embodiment of the sometimes unhealthy eating habits of vegans. While vegan snack food and vegan versions of every single meat product under the sun do fill a need, they certainly do not equal a balanced diet.
What had long been missing from the shelves of Food Fight --- fresh fruit and vegetables --- has finally arrived in their new location on SE 12th and Stark. They even have some bulk bins (hooray for that which is less packaged and less processed)!
While I'd still consider FF to be more of a specialty/novelty shop (I can get everything I need to make a cheap vegan feast at my local co-op), I salute them for taking a step towards true grocery store-hood.

Oh, yum. FF Grocery has so many treats with which to fatten me up. Nachos, cheese crackers, s'mores, ham logs, sheese, and lord knows what else. I bet they think I never eat a vegetable. I swear I do, it's just that the siren call of the vegan treats found nowhere else is too strong. Their blog is funny and informative too.

This place makes me happy. There are just so many tasty treats to be found here. And I'm not even vegan. I adore fish and real cheese too much.

I stop into Food Fight every once in awhile to buy a particular brand of vegan cookies they carry. My little brother is vegan for dietary reasons and they are his favorite. They sell them at New Seasons but are ALWAYS out. He cannot find them in southern California for some reason.
Anyway, I agree with some of the previous reviewers that most items here can be found slightly cheaper elsewhere, I was also pretty underwhelmed having shopped in co-ops and the like for a long time, most of the inventory was familiar.
All the same, if this were in my neighborhood, I would go there all the time.
The staff is always helpful and friendly (and not self-righteous or militant) and this is a great addition to Portlands grocery options.

Food Fight now has produce, ORGANIC produce.
Not only does Food Fight now have produce but also Nachos, Nacho cheese pump, and veggie dogs!
More importantly Food Fight carries Hemp Seed nuts, Hemp milk, Horchata, Condoms, Vanilla Hemp milk, Chocolate Hemp milk, and PURELY DECADENT ice cream !!!
and
Frankly other reviewer, maybe we don't like Whole Foods. Maybe we don't like to shop at Whole Paycheck with a Whole parking lot full of Whole SUVs from Whole Beaverton. we got the Whole vegan store at our Whole convenience already.

I woke up on Saturday morning, walked to visit my Sweet Pea (Baking Co.) then decided to stop by at Food Fight.
I was in OOOOHHH and AAAAHHHH since I'm not a vegan, but I love trying out new food and things this is like HEAVEN for me. All these products that I've never heard before are like treasures for me.
I decided to do a little shopping, so I grabbed the basket and I did my mini shopping. For about six items I paid $16.50, not bad at all considering two of the items are tofu and tofurkey sausages.
For you vegan people, you MUST come to this awesome grocery that is there for you. For the rest of us, still a trip to Food Fight is a fun experience.

So, this place is a mecca for vegetarians and the like- it's the promised land; you know it exists but it's out of reach. Heck, it's all the way in Oregon! A last minute and rather lovely trip to Eugene brought me close enough to Food Fight that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to set foot in this vegan one-stop shop. Due to Food Fight's legacy, I expected more and felt slightly disheartened, however, on principal it is wonderful. It's like my local vegan corner store in Chicago except with produce. I happily left with vegan ramen (at true ramen prices) and lots of primal strips. Be warned, the primal strips are excessively meaty. Once you get past the texture, they are delightfully satiating.

Awesome rarities all gathered up in one vegan spot! I usually come here to pick up some nutritious yeast, perfect for tofu frying! They also have those delicious vegan shrimps, fish, and mock meat from duck to chicken. They also have a small section for self-serve cheese & nacho. Its a privately owned and environment friendly runned grocery. Its small and apparently they hold preview concerts there for indie bands, before their official time at doug fir or rotture. Free music and vegan food! SWEET!

Some good stuff, but few things that can't be found for less at your local Whole Foods. Frankly, I was a little underwhelmed, after reading the glowing reviews of here.
The vegan peanut butter cup gets an A+ in my book, though.
12/17/7 - It's very nice of Food Fight Grocery's friends to go to the trouble of signing up for Yelp in order to give their grocery store favorable reviews, but this place is still three-stars at best.

Any store committed to offering flesh free products is on the right track! Besides a lacking produce department this place has it all for vegan friendly folks. Hate em or love em there is definitely a void filled by this place in the PTown community. Not only are they a great store but they also serve as a great resource to the vegan community. They have an updated blog that really keeps people up to date with what is happening on the vegan scene and the employees are friendly and helpful. Keep up the good fight!!!!

Lovely people selling the most delicious cruelty-free things I have ever had the pleasure of eating. It's a pity I have only been in the shop once, but they ship delightful things to my house on a regular basis. I'd be lost without them and their constant supply of "Vampire's Lunch", which are the coolest fruit snacks on the planet, hands down.
Shop here, support a truly local (to Portland, at least) small business, and maybe you'll sleep better at night!

The one and only! Everything (except produce and bulk food) for the conscious shopper!... All that is soon to change too with the doubling of space in the new location this year! I hear they will also be stepping up the convenience store experience with hot dogs and nachos and soda fountain on site!
Well, I suppose as some added info I should say... not "everything" for the conscious shopper. The specialize in vegan staples and hard to find yummies. A row of candy and chocolate and chips and jerky. A row of soups and pasta and bread and soy milks and condiments and other dry goods. A row of fridged or frozen "meats" "meals" and desserts. A couple of ready to eat items - but mostly take home n cook or convenience store items. They also have t-shirts, bags, bathroom goods/toiletries, stickers, etc etc. And occasionally the elusive vegan/vegetarian marshmallow or s'more will show.
A great website with a summary of AR events and happenings and other weird stuff. Don't expect it to be PC just because they are vegan!
I am so lucky to have them!

I loves me some Food Fight! It's the only place that carries that awesome veggie Ribs mix that I could always get at the co-op in Nebraska but can't seem to find anywhere else here. Sure they carry any number of products that cause me to cock my head to one side and scratch it but no animals were harmed in the making so I can totally get behind that.
I just found out about the vegan mini-mall (obviously I've been hibernating) and I can't wait to check it out.

Vegans find more common ground with the city of Portland than (arguably) anywhere else in the country, and nowhere else are they better catered too. Only Portland would harbor such a vegan convenience store well stocked with animal-free junk food products and puzzling fake meats. Also plenty of other products that I probably didn't even know where harming animals.
Stop here for vegan stickers, pins, and other vegan pride accessories.

When Food Fight first opened I was afraid of its survival possibilities, but not any more. This is one of the greatest convenience stores of all time, even if you are not vegan/vegetarian. If you are just trying to switch to meat-free food, this is also a great stop. You can find lots of delicious treats (like Oreo- and Jello-substitutes) and a good selection of frozen food and beer.
Also a good selection of soap, lotion, and other things for the house.

Food Fight Grocery is an independently owned vegan convenience/grocery store in Portland but you can buy all sorts of weird and delicious vegan food stuffs and other fun things on their website at www.foodfightgrocery.com. I order from them regularly because 1) gotta support the vegans and 2) they have some cool ass shit that i can't get anywhere even in SF! Plus, they have a really excellent blog on their front page that keeps the public informed of the latest happenings in the world...i learn so much from this front page (animal and non-animal) that it makes me feel pathetic and out of touch with the world if i can't read it. Also, they are super sassy and funny and make me want to write letters and get pissed about how fucked up our world is whilst still making me laugh at the insanity of it all! Does that make sense? Anyway, read the blog, get informed and then write some protest letters to evil people, make some calls to your senators, and fucking get MAD! Everyone thinks someone else is doing it but nobody else is doing it so fucking be someone who does something to make this world less crappy. Then you too can give self righteous rants on Yelp and tell me to please shut the fuck up! That alone should be reason enough to do it to it! I am obnoxious!
ANYWAY, buy stuff from them or be lame and don't but then i give you NO STARS and DE-FAN you! Ultimate slap in the face!!!!

If you live in Portland, then I am jealous because you've got Food Fight in your neighborhood. If you're like me, you can mailorder all their f'ing good stuff, like vegan junkfood and cute accessories, like "all my heroes have an fbi file" buttons and "i heart hunting accidents" stickers. They have excellent service. Almost forgot, they carry biodegradeable dog poop bags, which I just can't live without.
