I had the cutest date and he gave me the choice of Food Bar and Spice, and I'd never heard of the former, so I went with it, and can I say that this is the gayest and cutest dinner date destination ever. There were may be 5 women in the entire restaurant, and the rest were all cuties, boys of course! Our waiter was adorably flirtatious and gave us a fab introduction to the menu and specials... The food was pretty good, flavorful, generous portions and excellent date proportions, i.e. I didn't feel like a hog, but I didn't feel anorexic either and we still managed to nibble each others' food, among other things of course... We also met the CUTEST couple on the table next to us, just adorable, and sooo nice and friendly! Can't wait to go here again!

OK, Brian L., I'm going to agree with you 100% Although, I'll give it one more star. It's the main Chelsea strip, lots of cute boys were there for dinner.

I had the Filet Mignon Sandwich with Steamed Broccoli. The steak was a little chewy and seemed to have an excess of fat chunks in it, but the broccoli was good ;-) My server was also very attentive, nice, and cute.

As far as atmosphere goes, this place is exactly what you'd imagine from a hip, young, restaurant in Chelsea.

Foodbar is SOLID.  If gay restaurants were Mario Kart racers, then Foodbar is Mario...meaning that they have average reliable speed, average handling, and are great around tight curves.

...erm...the first thing you'll notice will be the clubby lighting and funky techno bass music.  Your surrounded by friendly queers who are either out with friends or are on pseudo-dates...don't bring your boyfriend to this sausage fest.

You'll also notice the waiters.  They're all very attractive, young, and--how can I put this without sounding like an ass and with you getting what I'm trying to say--they are all "abundantly enthusiastic."

..."they have a blank charm."

..."they are quite simplistically eager..."

Are we on the same page here?  God knows what they're thinking, but you and yours will have a lot of fun trying to figure them out.

The food is delicious and prepared very quickly.  I recommend the chicken salad as its laid out more like a fajita.  The portions are large and it isn't as expensive as it all looks.

The reason why this doesn't get four stars is because you probably won't be back for a long time.  It does--after all--look like a club, and who wants to eat at a club every weekend other than wily twinks and men who look like they just got out of the nearest Fisting convention?

What can I say about Foodbar?  It's just one of those tried and true staples on the 8th Ave strip full of pretty boys.  Everytime I come the atmosphere is always energetic, between the crowd and the music,  and they definitely have some really cute waiters who aren't stuck up, imagine that! The food is nothing to write home about, but if you stick with the basics like burgers and salads and sandwhiches, you'll make out just fine.  Definitely a fun place for pre or post bar hopping or just a quick bite with friends.

I ate in a group of six here on a Saturday night, 8pm-ish.  I was shocked that they seated us after only about 20 minutes at the bar, even without a reservation. The bartender was friendly and poured a great dirty martini; a  little more expensive than normal, but not at all out of the realm of expectation.  @Anna P. RE: girls getting served... I had no trouble, but it might have also been inadvertent good service since my husband placed the order, and I hear he's cute. :P

The food was delicious, though for someone who is a veggie+fish eater, there weren't a TON of options.  Still, the sea bass and salmon I tried were excellent, and the white chocolate bread pudding & dark chocolate dessert were so rich all six of us had trouble finishing one  slice of each.  We also had an appetizer with some stacked combination of portabello, mozzarella, tomato, etc, and it was perfectly cooked, texture perfect and not watery.

Decor was hot & modern, and my friends found the wait staff to be of above-average attractiveness, though at least one of the former had slept with at least one of the later.  I stress "least."

If it weren't for the attractive/nice service and the attractive/nice clientele, Food Bar would be more average, BUT, the place is a hoot! A big gay hoot! The atmosphere is super friendly even amidst cunty Chelsea, and I've got friends who are total regulars there.

Key lime martinis are the best I've had in NYC. Friday night bartender named Derek is fabulous and should be tipped very well, always.

Food is good, nothing SPECTACULAR, but hits the spot while drinking those drinks, which is, afterall, the only thing we gays really do anyway.

I'll give this place 2.5 stars.  I've been here a handful of times just cuz it's convienant.  I usually order their fried calamari, side of fries and Grilled Chicken Caesar salad.  All are good, esp the calamari and fries cuz it's made to order.

I came here yesterday with my SO and went with the Grilled Chicken Caesar. The SO got the filet mignon burger with fries.  My salad was tasteless and totally lacking any dressing!  I don't recall it ever being so bad! The SO said the filet really hit the spot and the fries were hot and crunchy.

The server was sweet and polite.  This place is a total meat market and cruising scene for GAY MEN!  Gosh, if only I am a male and gay!  It was quite amusing to watch all these Chelsea boy's prancing around with Madonna blasting like it was a club and not a dining establishment.

The food is ample and the pour heavy at this tres gai Chelsea bar and grill (replete with fruity cocktails, lots of salads and grilled/broiled chicken options). The waiters are flirty and pretty without the attitude, but its the busers who really bust their ass to keep the place going. Haven't had a disappointing visit yet.

This is obviously where one goes to have brunch after a hard weekend of partying.  We didn't exactly party hard the night before, but we were suffering from a bit of jet lag and needed a bit of breakfast food and a bloody mary at around noon on a wintry Sunday in March.

Lots of hot boys drinking water and hardly eating their food, they must have been on come down mode.  The food was decent but I wouldn't recommend the eggs Benedict, unless you like your yolk over cooked and hard.

I was here with a bunch of 'mos last night. It is pretty and bluish and fancy looking (gays love fancy). The drinks are good. If you are a woman, there is a next to nothing chance they will serve you though. Fortunately I'm packing 12 inches in my pants (wait...) so I got a Tom Collins. Anyways, this Dennis the Menace looking motherfucker starts being mean to my friend Grace. First off, if you are gay you should know that if your face is fucked, you should be nice. Secondovly, Dennis was my friend's boyfriend but he didn't realize that I value nothing I MEAN NOTHING not my friendships or my life over getting involved in good old fashioned beat down. And I simply won't have some Chelsea queen talking shit about my friend. FUCK YOU GAY. I've been to battle for you since I was four and this is how you pay me back? With unending Broadway musicals and shittalking? I was fixing to throw Dennis out into the street when I got tired and went home.

Great food, great vibe and our favorite server (Jay) is there!  We love the hostess Alex too!  She's fab.  Everyone's so friendly here at Food Bar!

I miss the Cobb Salad, Hamburgers and strong drinks.  (Haven't had the same since I've transplanted to San Francisco)

Alright, so it does get pretty loud with thumping dance beats on fridays and saturdays (later).. but with the Roxy gone, I don't mind the club atmosphere.

Took a German colleague here for lunch today while he's visiting the States. He ordered the grilled vegetable sandwich -- which was tasty if not a little messy and wet -- and I got the breakfast burrito. The burrito was a disappointment. They had the idea right, but isn't the point to put the ingredients inside the burrito?

The burrito was a loosely rolled tortilla filled with eggs. It wasn't that tightly wrapped, so it kind of flumphed on the plate like a fat cat on your kitchen floor. While the tortilla was full of eggs, the other ingredients -- beans, salsa, etc. -- was either plopped on top of the burrito or lightly scattered around the dish. Saying that there were beans in the burrito is wishful thinking.

Decor wise, the place is fine. And service wise, the place is fine. I imagine it's more of a gay hotspot than I'm able to gauge, but they've got the basics of a restaurant down pretty well.

I gave four stars not because I tried the food, but because the service was so damn cool here. I was visiting NY for the first time and wandered in here on a Saturday afternoon and sat at the bar for a glass of wine. The bartender (God I wish I remembered names,) gave me great advice on where to go out and all the other servers were incredibly friendly as well. This may not seem like a big deal, but compared to Weho, where the guys aren't HALF as good looking, I was blown away to have such hot guys be so welcoming. Props to Food Bar for having ZERO attitude!

Good spot after hitting a movie at the Chelsea Clearview. Had a couple of dinners here. The bartender on Saturday nights is the hottest boy I've seen in years. Wowee. I think people were ordering martinis just to see a lovely bit of tummy appear when he shakes the drinks. Delicious. And the food is good as well. Lots of low carb friendly options (this IS Chelsea, the land of 2% body fat). Example, chicken stuffed with goat cheese, lots of fresh yummy green beans, and a few smallish wedges of potato just to get you full. Tasty salads, and the uncarb friendly quesadilla is just the thing to soak up the tasty mixed drinks. Staff is sweet, much nicer than some of the snooty places nearby. Good reasonably priced (maybe just this side of on the higher side) food.

If you can get past the overly-cutesy name, this is a great weekend brunch spot.  Instead of bread you get a plate of muffins and cinnamon rolls before you order.  As the other reviewers said, the tasty omelet or other brunch fare is brought to you by a deliciously good-looking waiter.

I have to completely agree with Rich S.
Also worth noting, is it is not that expensive and so was often a good place to go for lunch even on a modest budget.

I'll second (third?) that emotion.  Lovely staff of cuties and perfectly acceptable food and a perfectly acceptable price.  Expect a wait for weekend brunch, but you'll certainly enjoy the views.  Ah, Chelsea.  Some things never change.
