Folklorica is one of the nicest, small, one-of-a-kind boutiques. They have all kinds of things that make perfect gifts for family or friends, or even for yourself. From Thymes products to different designer jewelry, and scarves and handbags and wallets. This place gets my 5 star rating. I first visited this boutique when visiting my cousin in 2011. She took me to Folklorica and I fell in love with it. The ladies working there are very gracious and helpful. I found things there for several members of my family to bring back with me. Each time I've been there, they haven't different items. They have always been pleasant and cheerful. The store is small but that's what gives it it's uniqueness. The hometown feeling. It has always been fun and a pleasure shopping there. I could spend hours in the store.

Folklorica is the perfect place to find a gift for friends, family or even yourself. They have the most delicate, beautiful necklaces and bracelets, as well as unique scarves, bags, and greeting cards. I always go here for gifts for my sister and mother and these gifts are always met with delight. The man who runs Folklorica is a friendly, welcoming type of person and his employees are quick to help you as you enter the store. Free gift wrapping is a plus, too!

The most under-rated jewelry store yet. Don't be deceived, just because they're located in Newton Center doesn't mean they are over-priced and lame.
Folklorica has a great selection of beautiful, hip, unique jewelry from local and more well-known designers. They cover all the bases from modern to funky, hip to simple. Semi precious ravishing jewels to chunky stones and simple silver. Prices are very reasonable and people are friendly. Also a small selection of Buddhas and zen home decor. Cute little place definitely worth your visit. They are conveniently across from the Newton Center T stop. -

TINY store. with more than 3 people inside, including the salespeople, it makes walking around browsing a little difficult. The new jewelry marketing trend is to upsell to independent women. as we all know, most of us gals ain't waiting for some dude to hook us up, and the jewelry industry wants to encourage that. Folklorica appeals those women looking for something a little funkier with a high pricetag hiding behind it's high quality.
i stopped by on saturday with my partner in crime and in comparison to the other boutiques on Union street, we liked Folklorica's window the best. I thought some of the jewelry was kind of cheap, fad-y stuff, but most of the selections are really fun and predominantly in gold (you know it's coming back) and i was in the market for some gold earrings and was very pleased.
there were about 12 people stuffed in the store and i think the staff were a bit overwhelmed but they were very nice and not stuffy about opening up cases.
prices ranged from very affordable (for cheapy stuff) to eyebrow lifting (gold and silver jewelry from boutique jewelry designers).
definitely a highlight on union street. -

For such a small shop, they definitely have a great selection. Unfortunately, I had little time to browse, but I know that I will be going back with my wife. The assistance was prompt and courteous, no pressure to get more than I wanted, and the selection is varied.
My wife has to wear 14k or better in her ears, and they have a grouping of earrings that have gold posts...
This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship ! -

I struggle to give this place one star. The service is horrible. It is overpriced and the people who work there are beyond rude. Some of the jewelry has the potential of being nice but I would rather buy dirt from a rock. I've been in there four times and keep hoping that it will be different each time I go in. It's not. So disappointing.
Four dollar signs gives it a high-end rating but I don't find anything high-end about it. -

I LOVE FOLKLORICA!! I'm a very, very picky shopper and I always tell my peeps to check this place out whenever they need to buy a gift for me.
They have something in every price range ($14 stretch bracelets, $500 necklaces and anything in between) and everything has a little something about it that makes it unique, the kind of thing you wouldn't find at another store. I recently moved away from Boston and I make it a point to come to this little gem boutique whenever I'm back in town.
They also have some beautiful accessories like handbags and scarves, but those seem to appeal to women a bit older than myself. Definitely at the very top of my shopping list whether shopping for myself or anyone else. -

I lovelovelove this store! I'm particularly obsessed with artisan jewelry (as I make it myself) and this place gets my vote for stylishness, affordability, and an impeccable selection.
I visited for the first time on a rainy Saturday afternoon with a few dollars left over from my tax return, looking for a nice pair of everyday earrings. I settled on a gorgeous pair of Jane Diaz brushed gold hoops, and literally wore them daily until yesterday, when my darling boyfriend presented me with two more pairs of Folklorica earrings (Marlyn Schiff and Sorrelli) for my birthday. He did an amazing job of selecting the jewelry himself, but I must admit that he'd be hard-pressed to find something I didn't like from this place.
The Folklorica "look" runs the gamut from sleeky and dainty to bold and artistic and everything in-between. The sales staff is helpful and knowledgable--and though perhaps a bit out of the way if you don't live imminently in the Newton area--is definitely worth the trip. -

I never fail to find something I like when I walk into Folklorica. I'm shocked that anyone would criticize the craftsmanship or pricing of any of the merchandise here. Folklorica sells handcrafted jewelry from a variety of artisans, both local and not, as well as some high end leather goods and the like. Sure, some pieces are quite expensive, but many are also affordable, even for a grad student like myself.
The sales help has always been friendly towards me, but never pushy. -

I have loved this store for years. If I am shopping for my pearls and signet ring friend, my hipster co-worker or my ever-stylish cousin, I can ALWAYS find something. If I am ever stumped, Don and his team will pull something just right from an obscure corner of the shop I managed to miss in my marathon browsing sessions. I try to make it there when I travel home, but it's best around the holidays when the whole of Station St. seems to sparkle around this little gem.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOVES. Penalized one star for pricing only.
The selection of artisan, unique, one of a kind, conversation-piece jewelry is truly mesmerizing. The amount of color, sparkle, and interest crammed into this place is also mesmerizing - how did they get all that in there? The amount of sparkle-per-inch gives Shanghai's population density a run for its money.
Mostly focused on jewelry, they have some hidden gems by way of scarves. Gorgeous, brightly colored floral wool wraps not unlike some I saw long ago at a market in Southern France, luxurious, high contrast tie--dyed silk oblongs...
As I said, would've loved to give 5 stars but I just have to, have to take one star away for pricing - and maybe I'm biased since I make jewelry myself and sell directly to customers so don't have the middle-man markup. But for all the loveliness and artisan quality of its clearly hand-made pieces, some very similar items are available for considerably less on http://Etsy.com. Granted, on Etsy you have to pay shipping.
BUT STILL SO YUMMY! -

Folklorica is great. Some unique pieces that you don't see everywhere!
I purchased a beautiful necklace that I am able to wear at work and dressy. The prices vary vastly between more expensive pieces and very affordable ones. The women who helped me was very informative about great colors and sizes of what looked well. Definitely try these guys out! -

The folks at Folklorica have an eye for studio jewelry. If you love unique, handcrafted pieces, this is a must. The prices are high, but if you don't like wearing the same thing as the hollywood starlet du jour and her Lucky-reading minions, then Folklorica is for you.

My boyfriend had tried his best in the past to find the right jewelry for me and many times missed the mark. So 3 years ago I suggested we go to folklorica together to pick out something I'd love. I left with a beautiful pair of understated gold earrings that look like little branches - people always comment on them. So I made it easy for dave and said, "for every gift you want to get me, go to folklorica." I don't think they sell diamonds, which for me is a plus b/c I don't want to support that industry. Funky, unique, elegant stuff!

Pretty cool unique jewelry and gifts. The place is the size of small shoebox, but it is packed with intricate pieces and different gift items. I know I will be going here today to buy my MOM a late Mom's Day Gift. As long as its from here, she won't mind.

Cute little place that is definitely fun to browse. As others have said they have some very expensive stuff but also some cute, more affordable pieces for everyday. It does get rather cramped in here when there are more than just a few people in the store, however, which kinds of detracts from the whole experience. Sales staff seemed very willing to let you browse.

Really cute jewelry and the saleswomen have "I know what your mother would like for her birthday" written all over their faces, so it's easy to get in and make your selection. Prices are just right. Some bridal-type jewelry, I see a lot of young girls in there for proms but I can also brag about their every-day earrings, necklaces, etc. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic place! They have a wonderful selection but be warned, the place is small but chock full of goodies so give yourself at least an hour to browse. The gifts I have given from this shop are aways received with such excitement and once the box is opened, the parise is never-ending. Drawback - return for store-credit only!

Tiny little store packed with great gifts. Fantastic selection of jewelry. Great place to get a unique present for a birthday or wedding. Its a little on the pricey side and the staff can be a little cool at times so I am giving four stars.

I have been going here for years and years, and they always have the best jewelry! Not to mention the entire staff is so friendly and welcoming. It's hard to walk in the door because I know once I do I'll defiantly come out with something. I mean that in a good way.

Folklorica has very unique jewelry, and is a great place for gifts! The staff is always helpful and there is such an array of choices-- always something to get for yourself or a friend, and always something for any outfit. Plus, they bring in new things often, all of which is beautiful and unusual.

I thought it was pertinent for everyone who is a fan or not of Folklorica to know that the owner is unethical and an immoral individual. He does not pay the artisans, and withholds payment. He is not supporting the community and while we give him our goods in full faith, unfortunately he makes off with the money and leaves the community. This is not an individual or store I would recommend anyone to support.
