I loooove meat. Love, love, love juicy, pink in the middle, tender, succulent, melt in your mouth meat. Filet, bacon-wrapped filet, top sirloin, bottom sirloin, lamb, their special cut, it was all delicious. My plate was bloody from all the meat, a little daunting to look at but like I might have said before, I love meat.
Salad bar was good, sides were whatever, rolls were tasty. Service was excellent; we had 8 people in our party for my little brother's birthday and they did a fantastic job making sure drinks were re-filled, bread and sides were replenished, plates were swapped efficiently.
I would only go here for special occasions because of the price alone, and I would probably need to be rolled out of here if I went too often.
Wow, I've been here several times in the past few years and every time I walk out, I tell myself, "I'm never coming back!" But I always do.
Fogo de Chao is worth the money. The meat they serve you is probably worth more than what you pay.. so I'm done for it.
If you have high cholesterol and heart disease.. and want to die early? I would say come here. At least you'll die happily. :)
Vegetarians would HATE this place because it's alllll meat. Even if you go in just for the salad bar, you can smell the delicious aroma floating in the air. The smell itself would make you drool.
One of my favorite treats here has to be the bread rolls! They bake it with parmesan cheese inside, so it melts while the bread bakes.. it's so orgasmic.
If you want to get laid, I would not recommend this restaurant because you'd be too wiped out from eating to do anything. ^^; Just a heads up. LOL
Ok, a real carnivores delight? Yes
Lotza red meat? Yes
Presentation? Cool, on a sword with well dressed attendants. Your card green side up - Means "Keep it coming!" And red side up - Means "stop the insanity!" lol.
Price? Priceeeeee! *Watch out for a price of a non-refillable coke! OUCH! But they have a large assortment of very good wines.
"salad" bar? Yes, but I wouldn't call it a Salad Bar. More like a gourmet bar which is (I'm sure) suppose to supplement all the meat served to you table side.
* * * *
But here is were my review may differ from most. Yes the wait can be long at peak times, or you may even need to get a reservation a little in advance, but that "salad" bar. Mmmmmmmmm.....
I almost felt it was worth the price of admission in itself. There were so many unique items to choose from that I could have sustained myself with just that. And it is definitely not your usual salad bar fare. Imported cheeses, cured meats, artichoke hearts (fresh), lobster seafood salad, Brazilian side dishes, stuff like that.
Pricey yes, and an interesting experience, sure. Try it out you might like it. Due to the $$$$, It will be a special occasion type thing for me.
Yeeeaaaahhhhh....DO NOT come here unless you are a serious carnivore. I mean serious. They charge you a flat rate of nearly 50 bucks and will bring you all the meat you could desire. However, I'm not a beef or pork person. I'll have chicken occasionally. They only had one chicken option, but it was wrapped in bacon.
So I paid 50 bucks for a salad. It was a very good salad, but it was an expensive salad. Oh, the sides are very good too. Plantains, mashed potatoes, and polenta.
Out of all the Brazilian steakhouses this is by far my favorite! The atmosphere is great, the drinks are great, and the food is fabulous! Be prepared, this is not a cheap dinner and you will be soooo full by the time you leave! The Parmesan pork is my favorite but you have to sometimes ask for it. The staff is really nice and great place to go if you are a meat eater! The salad bar is a meal by itself but try not to eat to much, you are there for the meat!! I love the cheesy bread and eat a dozen little rolls every time I go!! If you plan on going out after dinner then this place is probably not a good choice! I'm soo full every time I go and I just want to go home and lay on the couch because my belly hurts!! Great place, try it out!
come hungry. and prepared to wait.
We had reservations a week in advance on a regular weekend night, and we waited an hour and a half to be seated.
I remember our first time eating there it was a very great experience. It was my husband birthday and our good friend took us there. Great concept. The meats are Excellent . Price? wow, it is expensive. I want to go back but I can not afford $50 per person just for eating there. But one day, I will take my kids and my parent and I grantee they will love it too.
Fogo and Texas de Brazil are pretty much the same.
Same concept. You have a two sided coaster on your table. One side green one "Mas" one side red "no mas". Which you flip as you want more beef. Green more, red no more. So you can pace yourself as you wish.
I prefer Fogo de Choa. They came first and set the standard for me. The restaurant is really cozy and well decorated. The constant flow of different cuts of meats are always circulating. The also have chicken, lamb, and even chicken hearts.
Great salad bar and deserts.
Very extensive wine list.
I took my boyfriend and his twin brother out to eat on their birthday and decided to try Fogo's because we had been to churrascarias before and I wanted the birthday lunch to be nice. We went to Lunch so the salad bar was small compared to dinner [I'm guessing, Rafain's had a huge selection for dinner]. The service was amazing... I really can't stress that enough, "our" waiter, I guess, was really nice, they were not pushy at all...
I said quietly to my BF "I wonder if there's a dessert menu..." and BOOM, The hostess comes over and asked me if I would like to look at a dessert menu... Either she's psychic or they all have super sonic hearing...
On to the food, The house special was very good, the meat, was not too chewy and did not fall apart in your mouth, it was just right. Filet mignon was very good, I would actually say that Rafain's Filet Mignon was just as good as Fogo's.
SInce we could not eat pork, the waiter offered to substitute and make us a kind of "special" order of the chicken that was wrapped in bacon. They brought it out in a few minutes, the wine kind of made me sick but that's just me, I don't like the taste.
The lamb chops were really good; I'm looking at my review and it's kind of hard to believe that I haven't said anything bad about this restaurant, but it really IS THAT GOOD!
Food was GREAT. Let's leave it at that!
On to dessert!
We had the Creme Brule and the Flan!
If you've read any of my past reviews, I am NOT a fan of flan....but I am going to say this here, the flan was simply beautiful. Yes I said beautiful because i enjoyed every single bite, it was not too sweet and not too bland and not too runny or super tough, it was exactly JUST RIGHT. I guess that's what flan is suppose to feel like when you eat it. It felt like heaven!
The creme brule was really good too. I just remember loving every bite of it! It was just gooooood. It was a birthday celebration and "our" waiter brought out the creme brule and the flan with two candles for their birthday. Before we ordered, he joked that if we *don't like our food* (we were asking a lot about dessert) that we could just leave one bite and they would comp our food... haha.
Well, when we got the check, I saw that they had comped the dessert for the twin's birthday, which was very nice of them...
First star goes to the amazing service
second for the flawless food
third for the fastness of service
fourth for the comforting atmosphere
fifth for a perfect restaurant and job well done!
This is very very rare... I have never used the term "perfect restaurant" before... and to explain how the service was, here is an example: if I went to the restroom, I wouldn't have been surprised if they tried to wipe my a** for me.
Closing this: I forgot to mention: BE HUNGRY, and when you visit the salad bar, don't fill up on the salad... I got two twigs of asparagus! I was sad I didn't get any of the brown sugar Pineapple... that's part of dinner I believe...
EDIT: I forgot to add: The endless cheese bread, don't fill up on it, it's a trap that they try to make it so good you can't stop eating it! Try not to eat so much of it and save the room for the delicious meats that's floating around you!!!
I'm sorry, I had to edit again, I had to say that the experience was far more enjoyable than the experience at Texas de Brazil... The service was far better, everything was better all the stars were well deserved and I just want to stress that the coupons that TDB has to offer will not have me going over there to save a few pennies, Fogo has me swept.
It really IS a bang for your BUCK.
All you other Churrascurias really have competition!
I know you can't pick your neighbors, but Olive Garden? Really? Dinner at Fogo de Chao for 1 is $52. Olive Garden is like $10.
On to the food....This is a great place to take guys because it's a heavenly display of endless meat. But, if I were you I'd save it until I went to Houston because I hear that one is really nice and huge. Austin's location is nicer too.
On my Valentine's Day visit today, I found most of the meats pretty salty. You also have watch how you order. I preferred some meats rare and some medium, and I am usually medium all around.
The service is always really attentive, and they still did a great job even with such a busy day.
Man, I'm full.
I've said it once, I'll say it again. Recession? What recession? The hubster and I visited Fogo de Chao last night and the place was packed! People even brought their many children and at $50 bucks a pop, that's sayin' something.
We arrived at the time of our reservation and were seated promptly. We took a look at the salad bar for curiosity's sake and didn't partake, because c'mon, we were here for the meat! If I were a green eatin' bein' (which I'm not), I may have thought their large selection of fresh veggies and salads was pretty darn cool.
We were here for the meat, baby! And boy was there meat... after turning our disk over to green, gaucho after gaucho serenaded us with sizzling meat skewer after meat skewer. It was hard to keep up, but we definitely tried to down as much meat as we could as fast as we could. Then we realized it was a marathon and not a sprint, so we turned the disk to red to temporarily stem the flow of meat in order to maximize intake of the meaty goodness!
The meats were awesome! The garlic pichana was the bomb! The filet was tender! The beef ancho was flavorful! The endless cheese bread was warm and gooey and tasty!
The service was phenomenal. We don't dig on swine, because you know, a pig is a filthy animal (unless we be talkin' 'bout one charmin' motherf'in' pig). So after we declined one pork option, they never brought any other pork options to our table. They offered to freshly cook the bacon wrapped meats without bacon (such as the filet and the chicken breast). They soon learned to send the well-done meat my way, and the medium-rare meat the hubsters way. Even when our disk was red, they asked if there was anything in particular we wanted. When our drinks were almost finished, we were always asked if we wanted another. Basically, they knew that we needed something before we even knew we needed something!
We purposely saved room for dessert and had the chocolate lava cake and the flan.... yummers!
The only downside was that there was just too much meat. God, I can't believe I just said that. It would have been nice to have some rice or steamed veggies interspersed with the meat.
The "Holy Grail" of Brazillian BBQ!
Everyplace else is trying to meet the Fogo de Chao standard.
Some people even go here just for the salad bar. Yes, it's THAT good!
I've been to this establishment 3 times now. Each visit has been etched in my mind as a privledge to be there.
Look forward to my next visit.
If you love meat like I do, you will love Fogo de Chao. All you can eat meat, what a great concept. And we arent talking crappy meat, but quality pieces of meat. A great way to sample things you probably wouldn't normally order.
Again: I'm not a meat person. This place is obviously not a place to go if you are not a meat person but HELLO who can pass up a free meal! I was brave and tried nearly everything and it was like m&ms melting in my mouth. Oh geese... now I am drooling just thinking about it.
You have this card that one side is green and the other is red. These guys walk around with meat on a sword and when you want something you turn your flipper on green and they just keep it coming! When you need a break (or time to make room for more deliciousness) you flip your flipper to red. Who would've thunk it?!
I really shouldn't say I'm not a meat person. I guess I should say I'm a meat snob. I only eat the best of it. What can you do?
I went here last week as I was in Dallas for work. I made a reservation via open table. Upon entry I was greeted and led to my table. Keep in mind this was a about 8:45 PM. The server sat me in the corner next to a crying baby, and there was plenty of other tables available. I didn't mind until the servers started bypassing my table. Since I was in the corner, I wasn't in their line of site and would walk right past me. This is -1 pt. I asked to move and the waitress was happy to do so. Once I was in the main isle I got lots of attention and service.
The food: The meat was good overall. The steaks were marinated, chicken, and lamb all tasted good. The lamb shank was a bit rough and dry. But overall, it was a great meal.
The service: Once I moved, I was looked after. The waitors and waitresses gave their advice on the meats and made sure to bring anything that I wanted. Good job.
Price - It is a bit steep for $48.50 plus tax and tip. It came out to $60. Next time I think I'll spend about half that on a great steak dinner elsewhere.
It was a good meal, but I'm not sure I would go back anytime soon. Kinda pricey, but good meal overall.
Arriving in the Dallas area, I did my research on where to eat for dinner. Fogo de Chao ranked high on yelp, and I had three hungry men with me.
After a bit of confusion on what time they opened (whoever answered the phone gave us the wrong time), we finally arrived early enough to not need reservations on a Saturday evening.
The staff are quick to get you started. A bit pushy on the beverages, they offered 'the best' mojito at $8.75 a piece. (It was good, but far from the best!) They also load up your table with various side dishes that include warm cheese bread, fried bananas, crispy hot polenta, and seasoned mashed potatoes. The guys in my group loved loved loved the warm cheese bread, stuffing themselves silly on this flavorful goodness. And the waiters were always sure to bring out warm ones too! I was stuck on the polenta - pretty fabulous stuff! Sprinkled with cheese, I couldn't stop eating it. And of course, the waiters made sure my table had plenty. The fried bananas were a big hit too. It's easy to get distracted with the side dishes.
For the price of $48.50, you also get to gorge on an endless supply of meat that includes:
* Costela de Porco: "Tender pork ribs slow-roasted to perfection."
* Frango: "Chicken drumsticks, and chicken breasts wrapped in bacon."
* Linguica: "Robust pork sausages slow-roasted to mouthwatering perfection."
* New Beef Ancho: "The prime part of rib eye, beef ancho celebrates the rich flavor and delectable texture of that elite cut."
* Picanha: "One of our most popular cuts, this noble part of the sirloin is seasoned only with sea salt or flavored with garlic."
* Filet Mignon: "Succulent cut from the tenderloin, also served wrapped in bacon."
* Alcatra: "Cut from the top sirloin, tender and full of flavor."
* Fraldinha: "Bottom sirloin, seasoned to perfection."
* Costela: "Tender, juicy beef ribs cooked slowly to preserve the rich natural flavors."
* Cordeiro: "Fresh young leg of lamb sliced off the bone, also served as chops."
I don't think I got the chance to try all the meat since I ate so much of everything else! The staff are superb about keeping your plate full with meat and the only thing you have to worry about is flipping your little card over to let them know you need a break! But these guys are trained to see green, because they will be at your table in a split second the moment you want more meat!
And I can't forget the beautifully arranged salad bar. Loaded with goodies beyond more than your average salad bar, there's a lot to choose from. Your best bet is to avoid it though so you can eat all the meat and side dishes instead!
Beyond the pushing drink sales, service was great. Water was replenished, plates were changed, dishes were cleared - this is a place that has a staff that works as a team.
This place would be a huge hit in Vegas! I guess it's a good thing that it's not here because we might be here all the time! Yikes!
Lunch price is $32.50/pp.
My boyfriend and I love this place! I generally don't eat a lot of meat, but at Fogo I make a BIG exception. I know the objective of this place is to eat a shitload of meat but their salad bar is pretty awesome too. Everything is so crisp and fresh! Go during the busiest time to get the hottest, best meats. The service is so attentive! If you haven't seen the meat you were looking for in a while, they will bring you a fresh batch. This is a really great date place at about 50 bucks a pop. I know you probably shouldn't eat all that you CAN eat, but at Fogo, we generally do.
This was my 3rd trip to fogo de chao...as Preston T mentioned, it is a place you can only go to once a year. Everything was good, but idk, it's weird, after you go the first time, it's just never as good again...
On the salad bar..I was sad cuz I picked up these artichokes which looked like potato, but I had some ohso tasty fresh shiitake mushrooms. and there was some good apple salad, but a little too much celery.
The other stuff they give you...cheese bread OMG i love this stuff!! platanos sooooo good, but the mashed potato does not taste good..too gritty seems like it's from a box.
As for the real part of the meal--the meat was good..some meat was salty and then others not salty. Definitely not as much of a salt problem as when I went to Texas de Brasil though. The lamb was a stand out. Soooo good, juicy, and flavorful and I'm usually not a huge fan.
One small problem was that one of the gauchos flicked some meat in my water and then I had to ask a couple of times before our waiter switched it.
Overall a good experience. It was really really busy too, I thought everyone is "poor" right now? Guess not in Dallas! :p
The restaurant focuses on all kinds of different kinds of meat, but they still manage to have an amazing salad bar as well. I almost filled up on it. Almost.
The meat they bring around is soooo good, but if it doesn't look good, you just flip your card over to the red side, and the servers keep walking.
Also, the key lime pie and key lime martini were fabulous. Although Francesca is right, my stomach can only handle eating here once a year.
Super pricey though.
Outstanding Brazilian Restaurant . On a biz trip stayed across the Restaurant and in a weeks stay I went to eat 3 times to Fogo and worth every penny spent!
Best service ever! GREAT food. This is the BEST Brazilian steakhouse I have ever been to! The food and service were both Top Notch. I highly recommend this place!
Good food, if you can get it.
Our experience was very much like the reviewer who was seated off to the side. We were effectively ignored. Since one pays $50 for 1) good meat, and 2) service to bring you that meat, if you aren't getting either one than $50 is a truckload of cash to waste.
We were getting someone by every 15/mins or so (which is still way too long for this kind of experience) until a big, loud, business group showed up (about 20 people). After that the only way we got served was if I intercepted a server, pointed to our table, and requested he bring us whatever he was carrying.
Not going back, not going back, not going back. Our next anniversary comes up on Feb 1, and we are driving PAST Fogo on our way to Boi Na Braza in Grapevine. Hear that, Fogo? We are driving past your restaurant to go to your competition.
Pay attention to the people you seat on the periphery and maybe people will like you better. I know, I should have told a manager. I didn't, and mea culpa. I'm telling Yelp now. Be forewarned; if they try to seat you out of the way don't let them. It's your money and your experience, and neither one is trivial.
Absoloutely brilliant! If you're a lover of all things meat *blinks* Errrr... if you like... well, you get the idea. This is the place to go! A bit on the pricey side, but most definitely worth it. My diet went right out the window as I had the opportunity to ingest some of the most amazing food I've had the pleasure of tasting so far. The wine was excellent, the service was beyond compare, and the dessert had Happy Anniversary scrolled in strawberry sauce across the edge. Talk about thoughtful!
Overall, many many spiffy points. I can't wait to save up and try the one in Austin for our next special occassion.
Great food; great service (if they think you are somebody); really different salad/side bar. Definitely a red meat eater's heaven.
the meat at Fogo is like heaven in my mouth. the house special garlic beef and the bottom sirloin knock my socks off! the service is great, i feel like Marie Antoinette with all the fuss and six clean plates, but it's definitely cool. lunch is cheaper than dinner time and you will likely stay full all day and night. oh, i just burped and got a second taste...it was yum!
minus one star for no pepsi products.
Fogo has slightly better food than Texas de Brazil or Rafain, but the lunch price and a couple of huge dinner faux pas will keep me from going back for a while.
We had a group of 8 that showed up on a non-holiday Thursday night. Ok, looks like we should have made reservations, just turn us away, but instead, they had us wait and then decided they were going to open up another section of the dining room. No problem, plenty of room now. Only problem, they didn't magically have extra staff appear.
So after the huge build-up you always give first-timers about the place, and the special event nature of the night, we end up getting awful service and thick undercooked slices of meat. I assumed they were cutting it thick to minimize the visits they'd have to make to the table. A long wait for our bill and then credit card slip topped the evening off nicely.
I left without complaining because it was already late and the group included some kids who would have school the next day. I call the next day and get a lot of grief from them about not saying anything that night. Finally they offered up a 100.00 gift certificate and seemed unable to understand that I wasn't wanting money, I wanted to be sure that if I took people to the restaurant again, it would be first class.
Next time I go, I invite an out-of-town friend for one of those magical Fogo experiences and decide to use the gift card. They had told me to make sure and ask for *whatever her name was. I assumed she'd come out and greet us or send us a complimentary dessert. Instead, she comes out to our table and asks me what was wrong with the last visit. Hmm, maybe you care to discuss how crappy the food and service were in front of my guest, but I'd like to pass on that... After my guest squirmed for a while, she finally got a clue and left. Nothing awful happened after that foodwise or service wise, but it flavored the evening.
My thoughts now are- go there if you want filet mignon for lunch, for anything else, go to Rafain at half the price.
My husband and I love this place! Great for steaks, chicken, lamb, pork, whatever you name it! The meat here is sooooo juicy, its never been overcooked any of the times we've gone. Tastes the same, even better each time we go!
Apx $40-48 per person, which includes the all you can eat meats, sides, and salad bar ---which has huge selections of salads, pasta, bread, etc --BUT DO NOT PUT TOO MUCH OF THE SELECTIONS FROM THE SALAD BAR ON YOUR PLATE! OR ELSE YOU WONT HAVE ANY ROOM FOR WHATS TO COME! They have dessert as well if you're stll hungry....but I doubt you will be because you will be FULL wayy before you plan on leaving this place. DO NOT EAT BEFORE YOU COME HERE!! (you won't have any room for the good food if you do!)
Make reservations before hand, the wait can be ridiculous sometimes-We've waited over 40-45 minutes before. Other than that, the servers and waitors were a delight, excellent service.
MEAT, MEAT AND MORE MEAT!
Our family of 9 ate over $1000.00 worth of meat here and then finished off wine and dessert. We gave those gauchos a run for their money that evening.
We enjoyed it all although the wine is extremely pricey and the dessert menu is a little weak, especially after following such a dynamic meal.
I was in Dallas on a business trip last week & the first night we went to Fogo de Chao. This was carefully planned because we'd be traveling all day with minimal food, and there's no point going to a Brazilian steakhouse unless you're hungry because it's all you can eat. If you haven't done it yet, here's the way to do it right.
Step 1: Go hungry. Very, very, hungry.
Step 2: Don't load up at the really good salad bar. I saw one woman leave the salad bar with two slices of cucumber or an otherwise empty plate. She knew what she was doing.
Step 3: Try everything at least once, then get picky.
Step 4: Pick & choose, eat slowly, and don't leave room for dessert. After we had tried everything once or maybe twice, we were only going for the beef.
The restaurant is in Addison, in an area where there are a ton of restaurants. We were in downtown Dallas, so it was a half hour through rush hour to get there and longer to get back because we got lost. It was worth it.
It's not cheap but it's really not all that outrageous if you're hungry. There's no specific dress code and there were business people as well as families. It's for just about everyone who eats meat, though restless young kids might do better at home. Service was really good. There's a pool of people to take care of you and someone is always nearby to get you whatever you need.
Lamb chops were exceptional. Couldn't avoid overstuffing myself on beef.
I have been to Fogo de Chao in Houston and Dallas. On a recent visit to Texas I went here with my family, to celebrate my Dad's birthday. I like to eat meat, but I can only visit this place once a year at most. You probably already know by now that the concept of FdC is unlimited high quality meat, until you can't eat any more. If you pace yourself and are smart about what you select, you can get your money's worth.
My favorites out of the selection are filet mignon (NOT the bacon-wrapped filet) and bottom sirloin (Fraldinha). I don't care so much for the house specialty Picanha. Everything, especially the bacon wrapped and garlic meats, is very salty, more so than I prefer. I try not to eat too much of the starchy sides, but the cheese rolls and polenta sticks are awesome.
** Here is a tip: go for lunch, instead of dinner. It's the same menu and still all you can eat, but roughly half the price @ $26 vs $40 a head. There are no cheap wines here - which is too bad.
I'm not going to explain the whole churrascaria concept because by now, it is nothing special, but this one is typical. It offers your usual prime meats that are a bit overrated, and your outrageous salad bar. The salad bar contains great things such as fresh mozzarella, artichoke hearts, fresh asparagus, and a lot more. The salad bar is probably my favorite part of the meal as there are about 40 gourmet items offered, but the meat is generally the center of the meal. All meats are up to par with a pretty good steakhouse, but if you are in the mood for a truly good steak, I wouldn't suggest this place as it does not specialize in any meats, just a lot of it. No meats really stand out here, but if you are craving a lot of good meat, come here with some dough and the intent to gorge yourself to near death.
as good as it gets. srsly.we had THEE best server in dallas. all the fellows wore gauchos which i thought was cute. very professional and EXTREMELY prompt. the manager visited our table 3 times that evening. the pao de quiejo was amazing. if it sat out for more than 5 minutes it was quickly replaced for something fresher. green is go and red is stop serving me for now, lol. the salad bad was yumm as well...but like others before me, tread lightly! you came for the meats folks, not rabbit food. it comes with a couple side dishes like fried plantains, polenta, and something else that im sure was good, but was to busy consuming meats to even notice. LOVE THIS PLACE!
best $450 i ever spent.
Difficult to say more about this place than has already been said, really. This was my first time to the Dallas location, though I've been to the Chicago one before. The Chicago location seemed slightly more upscale than this one - the customers here were much more casually dressed. Not that thats bad, or that you need to be dressed up, its just my observation.
A nice plus was that my cocktails had plenty of gas. I drink mojitos here, mostly because I don't really care for caipirinhas - they just don't taste right to me for some reason. Anyway, the bartender did a lovely job on mojito. My $115 bottle of vino that the sommelier was pitching wasn't much of a deal though. I'm no wine snob, but I know what doesn't taste good. I did have a fabulous 20 year port though. Super smooth. (Is it wrong to spend all of your review of steak house talking about the drinks, and never mentioning the steak?)
The salad bar is lovely and very complete, but you want to watch your intake if you plan on binging on the meats. They also bring a few things to your table: from memory, plantain, mashed potatoes, and fried polenta. I've tried them before, but not on this trip. As usual, the meats and everything were fantastic.
I'd recommend, if just for the experience.
This is your standard Brazilian Churrascria with Gauchos running around with meat on the stick. You get a two sided coaster, one side green, the other red. Green tells the Gaucho to pile it on, red says stop.
There are so many different meats, it is hard to try them all without exploding. Overall, the food tastes very good, with Fillet, top Sirloin, and Picanha being my favorite. They have a very extensive wine list and you can find some decent wine at reasonable prices. Also, they have a very good salad bar. The only complaint I have is that the Caipirinhas are not as good as they used to be.
Wow, I just can't say enough good things about this place. It's definitely expensive - $46.50 per person for just the salad bar and meat (it's even more if you're getting drinks and/or dessert), but it's worth it. While most people here are dressed up, the staff certainly doesn't care if you're dressed casually. I've gone twice now in just a t-shirt, shorts, and flip flops, and they haven't given me a hard time.
The cheese bread they bring out is AMAZING. The bread is really crispy on the outside, but super gooey and soft inside. And it tastes fantastic.
As other Yelpers have said, the salad bar is excellent. There's a very wide variety of things available in the salad bar, and everything is fresh and tasty. However, don't go wild with the salad bar or you won't have room for the bajillion different types of meat they're going to bring out.
The meat comes with a few sides - mashed potatoes, bananas, and something that looks like french fries but isn't. While these are all pretty good, I'd recommend just skipping over them because the meat is much, much better. Overall, the meats are excellent. The first time I went, I thought the beef and lamb were amazing, although the second time I went I didn't think the lamb was as good as it was the first time. The chicken is also pretty good, although I personally prefer the beef a lot more. Both times I went to Fogo, I didn't think the pork was very good, but there's enough other quality meat to more than make up for what the pork is lacking.
And the service is also excellent. I don't know how they do it, but as soon as you flip your card to green, you will have people rushing towards you to offer you all the meat you can handle. The serving staff seems to be psychic - as soon as you want a new plate, a refill on your drink, etc. they're at your table taking care of it. You don't have to wait for your server to come over to your table to get you something because the entire serving staff works together to make sure every table is taken care of, and this works extremely well.
So eat away and enjoy the food, but save room for dessert. I've only had their molten chocolate cake, but it's absolutely phenomenal. Seriously, I think this may be the best dessert I've ever eaten in my life. It's the softest, moistest, most flavorful chocolate cake imaginable. In the middle of the cake is a little well that they fill with milk chocolate and white chocolate sauces that are also fantastic. You *have* to get this when you go to Fogo - it's just way too good to pass up.
Basically, if you're willing to drop a chunk of money on a good dinner, this is one of the best choices you can make.
Being a fan of the South American preparation of beef (grass fed, roasted), I thought I would try this place and see how it lived up to the best places I've been in Buenos Aires and S.America in general. Well, it was good, very good. Not the same, however. The meat was--understandably--more slanted towards American tastes (which suits me fine because I'm not interested in blood sausage and sweetbreads) and pretty flavorful.
The fattier cuts are probably the better ones to go with given the method of slow cooking a la parilla, but in general they had very tasty meat. It was a very nice experience though, and the wait-staff was good even if they looked a little dejected when you said you didn't want their cut. Oh well... oh, the key lime pie was amazing.
Expensive but fantastic. Just like the real churrascarias we visited in Brazil, except a bit more upscale, and minus the families that spent their entire evening in the restaurant.
Dinner is $50 per person; lunch is a better deal. Come hungry. Leave stuffed.
The bottom sirloin and the house specialty are our favorite meats, but the salad bar is fantastic and I love the bananas.
For an even more authentic Brazilian experience, order a guarana (typical Brazilian soft drink, reminiscent of ginger ale) or caiparinha (alcoholic drink).
I love this place, Best place to get awesome steaks and they keep giving you more till you tell them to stop using a card..green means BRING IT ON.. RED MEANS give me a min... lol
38$ for a person, all you can eat meat, filet min, etc...great place...classy...great service
BAM. This place places you carnivores to a whole new level. Their large selections of different types of meat from different parts of those delicious animals makes you almost unable to try each one twice because your stomach won't be able to freaking handle all that food.
They bring these brazilian cheese breads, mashed taters (what's taters precious?), baked(or fried?) bananas, and these fried cheese things that are soooooo good.
their salad bar is huge with all sorts of greens and other types of veggies that make you wonder if you should eat the salad... or the meat. but you should choose the meat. The salad bar also have crisp whole bacon that are used as bacon bits. good pig man. mmmmmmm
i just wish they had this in austin. sigh..
