I loved staying here. We were only there for one night, and we rented an ocean front room which was worth every penny. It was a foggy weekend, so there wasn't much of a view per se. However, we opened our windows in the evening, lit the fireplace to warm the room and just enjoyed listening to the sound of the crashing waves. It almost made it even better that it was foggy outside b/c it lent a mystique to the place. I stayed up forever reading a book b/c I just didn't want the night to end; I was enjoying the atmosphere so much. There was a big screen TV in the room (maybe 40-50"), but we didn't take advantage of that b/c I preferred to read a book and listen to the waves outside my window and my husband crashed early.
The staff were very accommodating: they recommended places to eat upon our arrival (we arrived near dinner time) and offered to make reservations for us if we wanted.
In the morning there was a full hot breakfast which was fantastic. There was a small incident b/c breakfast is served from 8-10am and they mean it. We arrived at 10:00 am and the lady in charge gave us a dirty look upon arrival, she had already pulled the coffee and refused to make more (she said she was out, but that seems odd to me for a hotel). She even gave us a hard time when we asked her for water! However, the manager in charge that morning (once it was brought to her attention) went above an beyond to make things right and gave us each an additional bottle of water, and some coffee which they had prepared at the front desk. She was very nice and assured us that it would be addressed - which I'm sure it was. She seemed very concerned about making sure we felt she had made proper ammends (which we did), and seemed just as bothered as we were that for over $300 a night we were given such a hard time for arriving at the latter end of the breakfast hour. Nonetheless, my recommendation is that you learn from our mistake and don't push it. Our experience would have been absolutely perfect if it hadn't been for this one thing which we certainly helped bring upon ourselves. :-)
This place is sooooo cute. Off the Central Coast, I have never stayed on this strip before, but some friends of mine have stayed numerous times at San Simeon down the road. This was a first time for all of us, and we are super impressed.
The rooms are cozy and the beds are wonderful to fall asleep on. My window overlooks the ocean and they have little nooks to sit on by the windowsill and read.
Breakfast room is awesome! They have waffles that you can make yourself in 2 minutes, eggs, sausage, bread, toast, oatmeal, coffee, juice, hot chocolate, tea, and everything else you may need for a hearty breakfast but steak.
We spent 2 relaxing nights here, and would definitely come back.
I gotta say that I love this place.
The hotel distinguishes itself from the others on the Moonstone Beach row (at least 10 motels in the area) with their excellent customer service and their spectacular rooms.
My wife and I rented an ocean front room -- if you can afford it, I recommend it. Going to sleep to the sounds of the ocean waves breaking on the beach across the street was one of the most pleasant moments of our PCH vacation trip. The ocean front room is HUGE - almost cavernous. It was very clean and well kept.
They've recently upgraded the televisions in the hotel, replacing whatever they once had with 40" LCD screens. It adds a nice modern feel contrasting the sleepy town of Cambria.
All in all, a great hotel. A little expensive -- but the view, decor and service make this one of the places that is worth the price.
Only stayed one day, but it was awesome service!
I was really shocked with the breakfast room, I thought it would just be like a tiny place to buy like a bagel and coffee, but it was much more than that, a huge room all sorts of different kinds of foods, excellent. I had a great sleep, woke up fine and we were on our way after a one day trip and delicious breakfast.
A charming beachside cottage-type place that stands out from the scores of other more bland-looking 80s condo-style accommodations along Moonstone Drive. A friend recommended this place to us, and since it was our first time staying in Cambria, we just went for it. When we arrived, the check-in staff was very nice and friendly, giving us a map of the surrounding area and even a bag of cookies. When we booked our room they had just a limited number of rooms, so we opted for the king room with "garden view", but I can't say where exactly the garden in that view was--we were in one of the back units adjacent to hwy 1 nearby; turns out we could hear the hwy more than the ocean, but overall we were pleased with our stay. The room was cozy and cute, with a nice fireplace. I think they'd just shampooed the carpet because it felt a little damp all over, but it wasn't a big deal. After unpacking we set out for a little walk along the beach, which was right across the street, and made the most of the remaining sunset.
I think where this place really shines is in the Breakfast Room. You get a free breakfast with your stay, and it's really nice. There's an assortment of cereals, pastries, breads, juices and yogurt, along with a chafing dish full of sausages and scrambled eggs. We had fun making our own waffles at the waffle station. Not too shabby. The beautiful small garden right outside the room is what I'd consider a real garden view. I wanted to take a soak in the outdoor jacuzzi but forgot my suit--oh well, next time. A charming, cozy, well-maintained establishment.

Loved it, I went out for a walk along the beach every chance I could. It is literally 20steps from the Inn.
Very nice staff, clean room, very charming. Their breakfast room is small so it can get a bit crowded, but I recommend getting your breakfast and go sit outside to enjoy the amazing view.

Here I am in the FogCatcher for the 3rd time. As I recall, oh so many years ago, we got a really nice room with the view of the ocean and so we always stay here.
We don' t have a view of the ocean this time. But it's a nice room, high ceilings with nice decor and a few paintings, light colored wood furniture (although whoever got paint on the tv cabinet should be shot and then fined).
The room is heated with a gas fire place which gives it a nice homey look. They have free wireless (I'm sitting on my vacation writing a review for yelp so obviously I take my computer everywhere) which is nice -- and different from what their web site says!
We've had consistently good experiences here and I can honestly recommend it. But there must be a dozen hotels up and down Moonstone Beach Dr and I can't help but think, "could we have gotten a better room or a better deal if we had called up and down the drive?" Maybe there are better, cheaper, more desperate (and therefor more willing to give you a room with a view for the same price) hotels.
Still, we know this will be a good experience and not get burned. So I'm pretty happy. Good solid choice (and, given that I've been in some real pits, that's saying a lot).
