I was subjected to their evil on several occasions.  First, when I asked how they get their funding, I was sent a snotty email that it was a 503c and they are not subject to sending that to the public.  Second, I have been to many a gay pride parade only to be protested against, yelled at, and told I was immoral by people from this organization.  Third, they tried to get Amendment 2 passed in Colorado in 1992.  Those are 3 examples of the over 10 that I've had with these people.

When asked why Focus on the Family does spend more time helping the homeless and less time on trying to pass laws against gays, they never responded.

I want to post this again.  You should get your morals from within.  Not from an angry old man with serious hatred issues.  I personally have been affected by the horrible things this organization puts out there.

Been here once for a birthday party, and I'm not going back. No thanks. Aside from my overall distaste of Focus on the Family and their "mission", the place downstairs in the visitor center for kids was only so-so. It's too crowded and tight, and not extremely exciting. My son has more fun at Little Biggs.

Originally I posted this in response to Dr. Dobson himself, but I realized this was in poor taste. Instead, I should include his organization as well.

In any case, Dr. Dobson is head of Focus on the Family, and as someone who is supposed to believe in love, humility and compassion as a Christian, he still accepts the traditional view of marriage (i.e. women are inferior to men) and that homosexuals are going to hell. He is so adamant about this fact that he believes 'traditional marriage' is coming under attack from some sort of homosexual front. Obviously it is all a smoke-screen to try and justify his hatred for people that he finds revolting for no reason. It's disgusting, especially since it is coming from such a strongly confessed Christian. (Who would Jesus hate?)

The typical uber-conservative Christian, Dobson is one of the extremely powerful people who's self-righteousness makes Colorado Springs and even the U.S. the place that it is.

You know what, when you start going after people because of their sexuality, just like with their race, it is personal.

And so this review will be too.

You are a tool Dobson: your time is over Dobson, you've had your say.

--

Focus on the Family is a juggernaut of intolerance and self-righteousness and is particularly scary since it holds so much political weight. I wouldn't have such a hard time with this organization if it stayed a church, which people can voluntarily go to. Instead, it wants to make its truth-claims based on an archaic hodge-podge of stories into national law. And now you've crossed the line.

I was scared that this place has it's own sign on the freeway and visitors center. I was going to go in and check it out but I was afraid they wold be able to see the sins emitting off of me.

Focus on your own family!

Let's see here.  Let's focus in on their vision of an ideal family here for a second.  The husband is a "loving disciplinarian" serving in his god-ordained role as head of household.  The mother stays at home with her children and doesn't quarrel with hubby, rather allows him to have the final say on all major decisions.  The children are quiet, obedient, and listen to their parents.  It's all so Leave it to Beaver and that folks is only half of what these people want because the family in Leave It To Beaver were pretty much non-religious.

Never forget that the gay bashing these folks do is just the beginning.  They bash gays because that sort of thing still (unfortunately) has currency with segments of America.  But if they win there, watch them work to erode women's rights too and then everyone else's.  Forget equality, forget abortion, forget the pill, forget college and having a choice of career paths.  For the rest of us, forget exposure to different religions, forget immigration bringing new cultures to our shores, forget being openly gay (or being straight and openly in support of gays), forget expressing "alternative" views on anything.  Forget 420, forget porn, forget anything even slightly risque in books, movies, TV, or music.  Forget about your children learning true science.  Instead get ready for a Jesus who supports war, capitalist consumerism, gun ownership, and the suppression (sometimes violent) of anyone who gets in the way.  Stop worrying about the Klan or the Neo Nazis, they're mere distractions compared to the power and influence this group has now and their aims for the future.  These are not disorganized or disaffected militants in the backwoods somewhere; they have plans, goals, and the drive to carry themselves across the land.

so much hate for Dr. Dobson's org.  interesting, but not surprising.  As for the visitors center itself, it's okay i suppose.  until you go down stairs.  They have a fun center for kids and a malt shop.  the fun center includes a room with a wardrobe closet.  Once you open it, you find yourself in another room in a narnia theme.  i thought that was pretty cool.  overall, a great fun place to visit.
