Really good, fresh bread and ingredients.
Eff Cafe Dante and all of the surrounding restaurants that are overpriced and mediocre. This place is genuinely good and the service is too.
Meh. Cozy atmosphere. Decent food. Standard Italian-American fare. Sadly, the bread that was on our table tasted a bit on the stale side. We ate it anyway, as we were hungry.
Decent service -- friendly, but not in-your-face. Helpful with menu suggestions for the non-meat eater in the crowd (that'd be me) until a piece of ham showed up in my soup. Luckily, I'm not a super-strict veggie, otherwise there woulda been hell to pay.
Nothing was bad, really, but next time I'll give it a miss. There are better Italian restaurants in the neighborhood.

Delicious! Great prices, cozy atmosphere. Always a hit with out-of-town guests. Their pasta dishes are fantastic, and they're very cool with any substitutions (mushrooms instead of the bell peppers? no problem). I would say this is my favorite Italian place in the Village, but I don't want it to get too crowded... :)

Starving and wondering around the area looking for a place to eat, while realizing that my boyfriend wasn't excited to frequent any of the restaurants in the area, since he has been to most of them and wasn't impressed, I was beginning to lose hope.
Walking aimlessly and considering just starving to death we stumbled upon this restaurant. After reading the menu (the prices are not cheap, but seem to be common for the area) we sat outside.
One of the nice things about this restaurant is that it is not surrounded by many noisy bars, something that seemed to be the case just a block or two away, so we could sit outside and still hear each other talking.
The restaurant is small yet there is something very inviting about it and yet classy at the same time. After reviewing the menu I ordered the Tre Colore with Penne ( you can choose your pasta, which is cool) and my bf ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana.
My biggest fear when I go to restaurants (besides the food sucking) is that I wont be full from my meal. i did have this worry once I got my dish but oooh was I wrong. The dish was absolutely amazing and filling, the tomatoes, garlic and olive oil were a great combination, I am practically drooling when thinking about it . The Eggplant Parmigiana was amazing as well and it came with a potato croquette which was very good as well ( i never had it and him and I had a lovely assumption fest on what the hell it was for a while... luckily the mystery was solved by our waiter... if only we paid attention to the menu in the first place...)
The service was great as well, our waiter was informative and very nice. We also accompanied our dinner with wine, because it just seemed necessary.
So what we have here: Nice location, with outside seating and a more formal inside seating, good service, amazing food and just a generally good vibe.
This results in a 4.5 starts (would take half a star away cuz it took forever for someone to ask us if we wanted the check, but maybe they didnt want to rush us.. in that case it would be a 5) :)

I like this place because I think the chef is actually quite legit.
It's an inexpensive italian place for a large amount of food :)
Eggplant parmesian sandwich = yummy
Chicken Mushroom Cream Pasta = loved it!
Really good tomato foccacia bread :)
One of my buddies went to NYU and swears by this place. So one night I was out boozing with him and some friends and Focacceria came up. My friend loves to talk about food so of course he was going on and on about all the amazing meals he has had there over the years. I couldn't hear any more of his rambling so I said "Let's go!".
There were 5 of us and we went around 9 on a Friday night. I had no idea the place was so tiny! Luckily they were able to squeeze us in the front corner after a few diners where nice enough to shift their tables around. We were all half in the bag and we decided to keep it going with some house red wine, which was decent at best.
After some serious menu deliberations, I decided to have rigatoni with chicken, broccoli rabe, diced tomatoes, garlic and olive oil. One of my friends got the veal special, another got linguini with clams and the others had pasta with meat sauce. Everyone was extremely pleased with their meals. My friends are cool so we did the good ol' take two and pass. You know, take two bites and pass your meal to the left. This is the best way to really try a restaurant. The check was around $100 for all of us which is amazing for a top-notch Italian meal. I am going back here next week. Boo ya!!
Maybe after reading all the reviews raised my expectations, I was hoping for fresh, tastes just like mom's homemade italian food and it was only subpar at best. I got the pasta with broccoli di rabe sauce...first of all, the broccoli no longer had it's fresh green color. it looked like it had started turning yellow having been kept well over it's freshness limit. Then there was a hint of sourness to the sausage indicating that it probably sat out in this summer heat for too long. The olive oil and garlic sauce gave a very sticky consistency to the whole dish and after eating just half, I could not bear to subject my stomach to such debauchery anymore. For all those who know me, I DO NOT WASTE FOOD! Even if the food is not good, i will still take whatever I do not finish home to finish. So right about now you must be wondering...why a 2 star...well because my friend liked his food and the appetizer we had was good (shrimp and calamari in garlic sauce - red sauce). But my overall experience was bleah...there are way too many italian restaurants in the city and this is not one I will patron again.
(Wanted to give it 3.5 stars, but no halfsies allowed here.)
I wandered around after finding a wait at Vegetarian's Paradise 2, drifting along, wanting something quick but tasty. Cafe Figaro? Hmm. Seemed more of a drink place than an eating place. Sangam? Hmm. Love Indian food, but the place was literally empty. Caffe del Mare? Eh. I was having fish the next night, so I didn't really want seafood two nights in a row.
Focacceria looked inviting, and there were tables (inside). A quick dish of pasta, I thought. How many places can screw up pasta?
This place is really small, as in Curly's Lunch small. In fact, I think it's even smaller than Curly's, which is saying something. If there's seating for 15, it's a lot.
In the warm weather, seating nearly doubles by having tables on the sidewalk in front. It was on the 65-degree Thursday night that I stopped by.
The array of pasta options on the menu was surprising for such a small space, and many of them were healthful and featured somewhat unusual combinations. All looked good. I chose penne with the "broccoli" option--it consisted of broccoli, pignoli nuts, red peppers, zucchini, and artichoke hearts, sauteed in garlic and oil.
For $10.50, I got a plate that was really perfectly sized for one person. Not too much, not too little. Everything tasted fresh, especially the pieces of garlic at the bottom. The bread plate I got seemed a little perfunctory but was tasty nonetheless (bruschetta with two large slices of the namesake bread).
I took a star off because there was a little crescent-shaped piece of hair on the rim of my dish. I didn't complain about it because as far as I could tell, it didn't seem to be touching the rest of the food (and I consider myself a borderline germophobe). And I saw nothing else unclean about the dish or the premises. The bathroom was clean and clearly well maintained.
Though there was only one waitress and there were several tables filled, she did an admirable job of keeping up with everyone and did so with a smile. I was out of there within an hour, pleasantly filled for $14, tip included. (No appetizer, no drinks.) You can't really beat that. Plus, there was plenty of scenery to take in through the open front of the restaurant on MacDougal.
Ambiance was nice--bright enough to read in but not garish. There was music on in the background, but it wasn't overwhelming. A fellow Yelper here recommended it as a good date place, and I could see that.
So, I look forward to coming back and trying some of the other options on the menu.

So - the food was pretty good here - a big mixed greens salad, risotto special and chicken marsala for the two of us. It was standard, quality Italian food. What really got me was the service. I made a reservation early in the week for Saturday at 8:30. So, on Saturday, at 8:25, I show up to Foccaceria with my friend.
First, I tell the waiter that I have a reservation - he looks at me like I'm crazy. Then, he skeptically checks the book - and finds my reservation. So, after seeing this, he turns to me and says - no joke - "It will be a 15-20 minute wait." WHAT?!? That's what reservations are for, right? Exacerbating this is that he had just set a (reserved?) table for 6 in the back. Couldn't we have pulled one of those 2-tops out for us to use?
It had been an unseasonably warm day and early evening, so they had some tables set up outside. My friend and I were hungry and I was in no mood to argue, so we sat outside. This meant I had to eat my meal with my coat on - not exactly what I was hoping for. The service continued to disappoint throughout the meal.
Forget reservations if you're doing Foccaceria. And hope you have a better waiter than I did.
Focacceria is wonderful. It's a very small restaraunt (especially for the area), but I've never had to wait more than five minutes. This has always struck me as odd because the food here is amazing and the service is great.
When I come with friends, we always fight over the complimentary bread. It's delish. But it's silly to do considering they'll bring you more if you ask (and we always do!). The cheese ravioli has many fans among my circle, as does their veal. Even their salads deserve a mention!
Highly highly recommend it. Less crowded than other places on MacDougal and just as nice. It's nice to be able to hear your friends for once while dining the nabe.
This place is definitely a breath of fresh air from all of the trendy places with college kids running around. I almost hate to write about it because every time I go I am lucky enough to get a table right away, but it is great and you should give it a try. Perfect for a date, with friends or dinner with the family. Excellent food- I always end up giving in to one of their tempting specials.
Fond Memories: I went back for the second time in a week to have another helping of a delicious special: mushroom stuffed ravioli with gorgonzola sauce. The foccaccia they serve before the meal is easy to fill up on and I remember having a chocolate cake afterward that was wonderfully rich.

My friend and I went for dinner on Saturday. The food was excellent and not expensive. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive.
A great little Italian place tucked into a quieter, less-traveled part of McDougal Street. It's tiny, but it's rarely crowded--and when it's nice out, you can dine al-fresco. The prices are very reasonable (you can get pasta entrees for $12), and the food is great! My boyfriend is in love with their pasta fagioli soup. They always have specials, and I've had everything from baked clams to homemade ravioli with fresh tomato sauce. With its friendly service, moderate prices, and intimate dining quarters, Focacceria seems worlds away from the rowdy bars and college kids trolling the other side of McDougal Street. I almost don't want to let the secret out.

Focacceria is a great little italian spot where you can sit outside and feel like you're in a cute town yet feast on some tasty italian cooking. When I was there they had a prix fixe which was a great deal. Portions are large, so share an appetizer. Tiramisu was excellent. If you're heading to Comedy Cellar this is a good pre-laugh spot to eat.

Only ever order out, but so good! Their sandwiches are fantastic! The pasta is really good too. If you want to stay in one night, order from this place, watch a movie, and see how the night goes.
