Good food, great drinks, wonderful service, fun atmosphere.
This is one of my favorite places to go in Little Rock. It's a great place to hang out, and we never miss Tuesday's Trivia Night.
The beer selection (including several gluten-free options) is insane. Shiner Bock on draft!! I had the Chicken Philly and it was terrific. All-in-all a great experience.
Beer selection like no other in Arkansas. Service is always stellar (especially Abby). Food is better than your average bar fare even in the few instances where it is standard bar fare. Smoking is allowed so strictly 21 and over (sorry, it's the law). Saving the best for last, 75 beers on tap and 200 bottled. Draft beers rotate so there's always something new to try. Mondays have most draft beers for $2.75/pint. Open Sundays.
Minus one star due to the indoor smoking section, as other posters have noted. I hate going home smelling of smoke.
That said, the nightlife options in LR are pretty boring compared to most large cities. This is the one place that is consistently busy during the week and on weekends. Lots of great beers. Food is typical pub food, which doesn't thrill me. I usually eat somewhere else, and end up here later for drinks.
Unless there is some special event going on, every other bar nearby is hit or miss. Most nights it's pretty quiet here. And none of the places can match the selection of brews. The saucer is a safe bet.
The Flying Saucer in Little Rock is a credit to the chain. Its location in the middle of downtown is fantastic and it's a great place to meet friends.
I've been to the Saucers in San Antonio and Austin and this one is at least as nice as they were. There's the usual complement of waitresses in short skirts and beer on tap to make anyone happy!
For a cheaper Saucer experience be sure to zero in on the Fire Sale beer, which is a daily $2.75 special based probably on what they need to get rid of. Mondays are Pint Nights, which are great because nearly half their menu costs only $2.75. If you've never been to a Saucer before, check it out, and if you have, you won't be disappointed by the Little Rock location.
There is a certain pretentious nature to many NY beer bars....maybe it comes with the territory when you are serving $10 pints. It was quite a relief to walk in to this laid back scene after a work day lasting the better part of 15 hours. The wings were great, the beer was ice cold and the bartender could appropriately match options for styles I enjoyed. (Ex: I love the Ayinger Celebrator, they only have it in a bottle; she suggested a Spaten Optimator and it was fantastically close to what I sought originally).
The only thing stopping this from being 5 stars is the allowance of douschebaggery. Bumbling drunk comes in and promptly blurts out "nice tits" to the bartender who serves him. Radiating my best antisocial vibe and staring at the commercial on TV like it had a plot of course he starts spitting vulgar language and flat out letting me know what he'd like to go do in his hotel room. I couldn't even call them sexual innuendos, they were clear statements. Manager hears this, bartender hears this and while I am perfectly content telling him off for about the first 5 minutes on my own anything past that is an issue they should address instead of mouthing "are you okay?" and avoiding the situation. He should have never been served in the first place, and for that minus 1 star.
Atmosphere at the Saucer is like any other in the Flying Saucer franchise - saucers on the walls, beer bottles lining the walls, etc. Nothing special here. Crowd is very young late at night, so try to enjoy your beers during the day or at supper.
Several hundred beers to choose from but the draughts are sometimes "off" in taste. I've had this numerous times and complained, but they swear the tap lines are cleaned weekly. The bottled beers taste fine, so it's not the glassware. Arkansas beers have a strong presence on tap which is good for the local spirit, but unfortunately some of the Diamand Bear beers are marginal and they do not carry a single beer from Bosco's (whose brewpub is one block away).
Staff is significantly undertrained when it comes to beer knowledge. It's either funny or condescending when they try to describe a beer to you. They also serve you another "similar" beer if your requested beer is kicked. I ordered a Whitebread and they brought me John Courage. Hmm.
Food is standard pub fare, though the cheese dip is a guaranteed source for digestive problems later (I've confirmed this with several locals who go there and figured this out independently of me).
One of the best places in Little Rock for beer but don't have high expectations.
Turkey sandwich was good beer selection was fantastic. My favorite TDY (Temporary Duty for you non Gov. Folk :P ) location is right here at flying saucer and I am well on my way to my own plate on the wall
I loved the beer cheddar soup, and the apple cider style brew is exceptional. My husband's best friend took us here, and the atmosphere is up to my standard! I had a nacho plate with my soup, and Enjoyed the service and the dedication of the Football fans!
Great beer selection, beautiful waitresses, and they drop the projection screen if theres a big game. Perfect place to pre-game if you have plans later in the night too. Monday is pint nite for those on a budget.
Wow! yeah!!
I had a mixed cold dish of smoked salmon and various cheese. Soooo good!! Unfortunately I couldn't order any beer because I had to drive right after; but next time I won't miss.
The only thing I really didn't like is their indoor smoking section. Even the restaurant has a smoking section at the front entry, but it doesn't stop the smoke flowing into the main dining area.
I very rarely go to Flying Saucer because the beer is pretty overpriced and the place is always PACKED. Also, as was mentioned previously, the smoking section thing doesn't work so well. This place DOES have a HUGE selection of beers and their pear cider is to die for. BUT, the atmosphere is not really what I'm into...It's sort of as though a frat party and an office party booked the place on the same night. Except that's how it is every night. It's also much brighter than I'd prefer. I ate some cheese quesadillas there once and they were great.
If you don't mind spending tons of money to sample the different types of beers and listening to loud yuppies all night, you'll like this place.
Overpriced and loud with really, really mediocre food.
The beer selection is great and definitely cheaper than the Craft Beer that I get in my Boston bars! The food was your typical pub food. We got three appetizers for two of us and it was way too much food! If you want some delicious pub food and you enjoy drinking quality beer, come to Flying Saucer!
Always crowded, not overly crowded, get there early for a table. The Little Rock location is a little smaller than most Flying Saucers but it has the same great 100 beers on tap and good bar food.
beer lovers unite, foodies eat first...
As for selection of beer, you cant get a better selection anywhere. I love Samuel Smiths and they have everyone in bottles. the food is typical bar food. nachos, sandwiches etc. nothing to write home about but then again it's a beer pub not a fine dining establisment. The food will get you through the night. If not you could always go down to it's sister The Flying Fish or The Flying Burrito. Go for the beer. Oh, the wait staff on the floor seems to be more attentive than the ones behind the bar. Just my take i Guess...
Now this is more like it! Stopped here before flying out and wished I could stay an extra night. Huge back bar area (non-smoking) with a wall of tap beers from all over the world. $2 draft beers that in Chicago would run me $6-8, really sealed the deal. Fun bartender, a/k/a Ginger, also made the experience memorable.
My father, brother, and I ate here on our mini-trip to visit Little Rock (I'll be living in LR as off Sept. 2008). It was my first restaurant in Little Rock.
The place is big and has an enormous selection of beer (draft and bottled) for you to choose from. I didn't try any beers, but will most likely be back when I'm settled in, since its only about a 5 minute drive from my place.
I had the veggie "big" slice. It was very very good. The sauce was a pesto white sauce and it had artichokes, onions, and green olives. My father even ate a slice (its comes with about 4 slices) and loved it. He got the turkey sandwich with fries and my brother got the BLT with potato salads. They both said the food was pretty good for a pub food. The portions for the sandwich was a great size and they gave you a lot of fries on the side.
They don't have sweet tea (which I'm use to having in the South) even though I thought AR was considered the South, but I guess not. The wait staff was nice, but they seem a bit stand-offish at times. I guess since we weren't business men, our waitress didn't spend much time trying to talk to us or anything. Our food didn't take long at all and got to us at a reasonable time and temp.
We parked right next door to the restaurant and it was $2 for an hour. There was numerous street parallel parking, but they were taken. The area is really cute. Its in the "River Market" area of Little Rock, so there was a lot of others cute pubs and restaurants around.
I'll most likely review this place again after I spend time trying out the beers and try the food one more time.
I'll give it three stars because it is spacious and has an extensive beer selection. Personally, I don't care for the atmosphere. Flying Saucer is to bars what a mainstream rock station is to radio.
Bright spots: Monday night is pint night and Tuesday night is trivia. They also serve food late. Little Rock is in dire need of restaurants that stay open past the 10:00 hour. If you find yourself in the Rivermarket area in need of bar food or an uncommon imported beer, Flying Saucer is the place.
Over 60 beers on tap...That says it all. Went in for a lite lunch in the late afternoon and ended up with a good buzz. The Server suggested the "Breckenridge Vanilla Porter", since I like dark beers and it was great, really great - guess I should jump to conclusions, I still a few more to0 go.
The food is o.k. - the green salad was large and the pizza basic.
But the variety of beers makes up for food. Drink up.
The Flying Saucer is much like Taco Mac in Atlanta, they have hundreds of beers on tap and in bottles.
The best part about this place is that they have the large (750mL) bottles of Lindemann's Framboise (and other varieties) for just $14! That's a STEAL, given the places in Atlanta that actually serve it sell it for $8-11 for a 12oz bottle.
This fact alone gives Flying Saucer 5 stars. I wish there was one in Atlanta.
The Flying Saucer also has events throughout the week such as trivia contests and live music. If you are in Little Rock.... GO!
Go here and drink beer and go on Monday when they do pint night - almost all pints are $2.50 - that's when you take advantage of doing your sampling and especially of the pricier import beers or micro-brews like Rogue.
GREAT SELECTION OF BEER - they know how to keep up with seasonals and they keep their finger on the pulse of micro-brews.
The Brat is fantastic for food - they serve it with hot german potato salad that is INCREDIBLE.
You want a table with friends in the front when the windows are rolled up on a nice day.
If you are looking for a place to get a good beer, or to drown in options; this is it! They have tons of different brands, both domestic and really hard to find international.
I went with my husband (who is a Fat Tire man) and a friend. I personally don't like beer, but it turns out I do like cider. I told the beer bitch (that's not what they call them, but whatever) that I don't like beer, and then told her what I do like. She suggested this apple cider they have. It was pretty good.
They do have a partial full bar (I had a Bailey's before my cider).
Service is great, but I wouldn't go expecting world class cuisine. It's a beer emporium folks. If you want killer food and killer beer you have to go to Bosco's microbrewery down the street.
Food was blah with next to no selection. Fries were soggy. As a brewery, this would be a better rating, but as a restaurant, way low and boring.
Cheap beer, and a LOT of it. The waitresses dress up in little kilt like outfits which is really fun, and they have a very good buffalo chicken wrap that goes well with one of their berry flavored brews. They have a certain night (unfortunately I wasn't there for that) where you get to take home a souvenir glass.
One of the classiest dive-type bar in the Rivermarket.
Come as you are.
I don't live in Little Rock anymore, but I lived there for a while and always enjoyed going to this place.
It's always busy at night which can be annoying, but this is because it's cool. Great beer selection. Decent food. Cool atmosphere. It's probably my favorite place in the rivermarket.
If you love beer you'll really like this place.
We were passing through Little Rock on our way to D.C. when we stoped in the saucer. WE loved the food and beer selection and the bartender was really cordial. Great cool atmosphere.
Excellent beer selection, and unlike Taco Mac in Atlanta, Flying Saucer had every beer I asked for in stock. We had a college reunion party in the lower level and the atmosphere was more like hanging out in a friend's basement playing pool than being in a commercial environment (except that none of my friends have scantily-clad women dressed like schoolgirls serving beer). There are a lot of choices for drinking establishments in River Market, but if beer is your thing, then you should definitely try Flying Saucer.
Decent place, good atmosphere. The beer was cheap and they did have a ton of choices for sure. If you are out with a group this is a pretty good place to try. I wish I had more to say..it was pretty cool but not that memorable.
My husband used to live in Little Rock and kept telling me over and over that I needed to check out the Flying Saucer (and now that we living in a city with one of our own, we haven't even visited it yet!), so needless to say I was excited. They had plenty of options beer-wise, but unfortunately my friends weren't the biggest beer drinkers. We did get some appetizers that were appropriately greasy and filling. The atmosphere is like a grown up college bar with scandalously clad waitresses to keep business booming. It was in walking distance of our hotel, so no complaints about location!
The best bar I found in the Rivermarket district. Tons and tons of beers on tap, though the one I wanted (Monty Python's Holy Ale) was not available. Staff was friendly and surprisingly knowledgeable about the different beers.
I went for Monday's Pint Night: the majority of their (many many many) beers on draft are $2.50/pint. Fun atmosphere, cheap good beer. Found a parking spot right out front. It was a good night.
