Just had me some Flying Pig and it was way bomb. We pretty much tried the whole truck and was impressed by every single item on the menu. Personal favorites are the duck taco, short rib taco and the pork belly bun. The sauces were way good, meat was high quality and the bun was very flavorful. It's worth the money to get one of a kind food.

Can't wait to go back for seconds, thirds and fourths... Great service too!

A must try!!!

I've been on a food truck binge for the past week. It's taken me on day trips to the miracle mile and downtown and LA. I even held in a massive piss grab something outside of Good Luck Bar.

Flying Pig was a choice I made on the fly. I didn't want to spend much cash but still wanted a soda ($1.50 for a can... boo) so I went with the pork belly slider.

It was good. Not great. Nothing really jumped out at me with this. It looked very nice as the photos online could prove. I don't know. Still waiting for a food truck to come out of the gate and blow my mind.

Oh, Flying Pig truck - your logo is SO CUTE!

Went to The Brig tonight to meet the Kogi truck and was SO PLEASANTLY surprised to see the happy Flying Pig truck.  We decided to have a snack before Kogi - and are we glad we did!

We tried the short rib taco with death sauce and oyster mushrooms, duck taco with tamarind, the spicy pork taco, the pork belly bun and the sliders.  The duck was a little stringy, but had good flavor - it had a tiny mandarin orange section on top.

The short rib taco was way better - the meat was tender and well marinated, smoky and spicy and sweet from the sauce and the delicate mushroom pieces were buttery yum.  The pork taco was sweet and spicy and flavorful and tender, excellent!

The pork belly bun was a little slice of pork on a Peking duck-style steamed bun (EXCELLENT idea btw) with a little bit of pickled onion and cucumber salad.  The pork was fatty (in a VERY GOOD way) and the sauce was spicy and hoisin-y.

The favorite was the sliders - they tasted grilled, with just the right amount of char, and they were on little HAWAIIAN BREAD buns!  I loved that!!!  There's 2 to an order, and they came with a little pickled onion and greens on it.  Ok, the pork tacos were tied with the sliders for our favorite!

Verdict:
flavor - 4 stars
portion sizes - 3 stars (a little skimpy on the filling for all items) service - 5 stars

The guys on the truck were telling us that they got an awesome location to open up a restaurant with Flying Pig truck-type asian-french fusion food.  They were a seriously friendly bunch - check out their website for restaurant news!

Went out last night looking for the Kogi Truck and was pleasantly surprised to find the Flying Pig Truck parked nearby, its pink pig logo proudly emblazoned on the side.

We tried a few of the more interesting things on the menu--the sliders, tamarind duck tacos, and the braised pork belly bun.  The food was very flavorful, fresh, and reasonably priced. My personal favorite was the slider--beef & pork, pickled veggies, banana mustard on a Hawaiian roll bun.  Wow.

One of the chefs even came out to talk to us about the restaurant that the Flying Pig folks were opening based around this type of fusion cuisine--Asian, Pacific Rim and French technique.

The only thing I might suggest to improve on would be the portion sizes.  They were a bit on the small side.  Guess that's where the French technique comes into play.

Would have been five stars otherwise.

Had Flying Pig today for the first time.  First let me just say...the service is pretty great!

They tweeted yesterday that they would be at 9th & Hope downtown, so we were a bit miffed when they weren't there.  A friend of mine called them from the street corner to see where they were.  They said there must have been a misunderstanding with the tweet and that they would make their way to downtown at 1 if we wanted them to.  We didn't want them to come just for us (and we didn't want to wait another hour!), so we told them not to worry about it.  (but how awesome was it that they offered?!) When we got back to the office, my friend emailed them and asked them to show downtown some love soon!  They replied saying they would come today AND Friday!  Now that's service!

Now for the food:  I tried the short rib taco and the pork belly bun.  The taco was pretty tasty, although I think I still like Kogi's better.  Flying Pig's had a little bit of a spicy kick, which I appreciated.  The pork belly bun, however, was OUT OF THIS WORLD.  Straight up amazing.  I will be visiting them tomorrow again to partake pork bun awesomeness.  Lucky for me, the Kogi truck will be at the same corner so I can get my tacos from Kogi & my buns from Flying Pig.  What a perfect match!

I give Flying Pig 4 stars.  Great service, very friendly people, and I felt more welcome than I do at Kogi...like they were glad to see me.  At Kogi, they have so many customers they could care less who you are and why you came.

This truck serves up some of the most interesting and excellent food that you can get out of a truck. It is Asian fusion, but it is impossible to put a label on it.

By chance I tried them on their first night out and was absolutely blown away. I have eaten at almost all of the food trucks, and I feel that this one is the best out there.

My favorite, by far!

Yes, another food truck has landed in Downtown LA.  You can't miss this truck because it stands out! The FLYING PIG truck is ...wait for it, wait for it ...you'll never guess! ... REALLY, REALLY PINK (like Pepto).  What makes this truck different?

Well it's a "blend of Asian & Pacific rim flavors with French Technique" ... hmm.

The menu consists of 3 types:
Buns: Braised Pork Belly, Sliders
Snacks: Crab Ball, Flying Pig Fries (Sweet Potato)
Tacos: Grilled Beef Short Rib, Spicy Pork Shoulder, Duck, Smoked Chicken, Crunchy tofu

I really wanted to try the Crab Ball and Pig Fries - they were SOLD OUT. And it was only 11:45 am .. what gives? So I ordered the short rib taco (with oyster mushrooms & death sauce). I don't know what the death sauce was, but it did have flavor. And I'm still alive!

Maybe the next time they're in the area and they happen to have the Crab Ball & Pig Fries, I may change my rating :)

I spent 5.50 for two cold tacos that were about the size of my finger. My god they were small.

These guys were also totally uncoordinated and confused, didn't know how much I paid or what anyone ordered. Kogi truck is a rip off but at least I get some food out of them. Much better choices downtown are LA chicken and Kikes for Tacos but then, they won't drive over to me.

Bonus was listening to the actor momos around me and the two people on E that were still bouncing to whatever music they heard last.

Anyway, these guys have got to improve before I will fly to their pig again. Read your reviews and act accordingly.

Another Asian fusion taco truck? Does L.A. really this? Yes and yes.

Sadly by the time we got to the truck most of the tacos were "sold out due to awesomeness". It said so right on the masking tape covering up such delicious sounding offerings as tea smoked duck and...other yummy things the taco truck guy mentioned. I was distracted by thoughts of the duck.

So we got one beef short rib taco with oyster mushrooms and death sauce. Awesomeness is right. This little bit of deliciousness was given Best Taco Truck taco status by both me and the boy. Must meet up with them earlier in the night next time to try more of the food! And a real restaurant is in the works? Can't wait!

The Flying Pig is yet another addition to the fad of LA food trucks.  This one is nicer than most - painted Pepto pink with a pig on the side, you can't miss it.

My friend and I tried most things from the menu including:
grilled beef short rib taco (with oyster mushroom and death sauce) - the most tasty of everything, though the texture of the mushrooms was a little strange for me.  There was at least flavor, although it was a tad on the sweet side for me.

Spicy pork w/ green papaya and cilantro cream - no flavor.  I think they they're trying to knock off the green papaya Thai salad in Thai places, but this one has no flavor at all.

Tamarind Duck  taco w/ toasted almond - again, the meat was good quality, but the tamarind should pop - and it didn't.

Braised Pork belly  bun - really, it was like  flattened out taco made out of bun dough with two little pieces of pork belly sandwiched in there. not impressive.

Overall impression: fun thing to try, but OVERPRICED and very little food.  At least the meat is good quality. Taco trucks are supposed to be tasty and cheap. this one missed the mark on both, with the exception of the grilled beef short rib, which was definitely the best thing on the menu.

They are testing out for their restaurant they are opening sometime in the next six months or so.  hope their restaurant has better stuff, b/c I wouldn't be happy paying tax and tip for such measly portions that need better flavor profiles. just sayin'

(this review is only for the tofu taco)

I'm standing in line at the kogi truck on 9th and hope and i ask the guy in front of me, "hey have you ever tried the flying pig?", (both trucks are on the corners) he looks at me and says, ''I'm the chef there!'. and i say, "is it good?".. and he laughs and says "yeah! I'm the chef and i created the menu, so i think its good!"

I WAS SOOO EMBARRASSED!

We start talking and i tell him I'm a vegetarian and he tells me that they have this tofu taco and i tell him I'm not a huge fan of tofu (i only visit kogi for the quesadilla) and after paying $7.15 for a quesadilla and a coke at kogi, i feel kinda bad and decide to try a taco at the flying pig...

and OOHHHHH MYYYYY GGGAAAWWWDDD... my mouth had this taste bud explosion. The best tofu taco ever!!!!! its so good. Better than the one at kogi. I wanted to actually cancel my order at kogi, but i already paid. I love the flying pig. Its amazing! and cheap too :)

nth food truck. i stopped counting after 10. :p

i'm surprised by the mixed reviews here. i figured if everybody tried the same stuff i did, they would be glad they had a flying pig truck experience. ;p oh well. i've had my share of food trucks, and this one just so happened to be in downtown so i decided to take the metro and try them pork belly buns and the duck tamarind taco (two of which some people don't find interesting but were both very tasty!)

i came for a late lunch, around 130ish and of course there was no line, got my food in about 5mins. i was overwhelmed by how the duck tamarind taco looked/smelled like that i devoured it before i even got to take a photo of it. hehe. it was delicious. a bit on the sweet side but i liked the flavor combinations and the crunch of the almonds! definitely a unique taco among those that crowd our streets these days. 2nd was the pork belly bun. i expected it to be bigger but it was just right for me. served pecking duck style (inside a steamed rice bun) w a spicy tangy sauce and red onion escabeche and sesame cucumber. equally tasty and the belly was cooked perfectly. :)

overall, a 4.5 star experience, but since yelp doesn't have half stars, i'll bump them up to 5 because i didn't have to wait in any lines. and everything i ate was good. and it didn't cost me more than 10bucks.

pork belly bun - $3
duck tamarind taco - $2.50
soda in can - $1.50

I usually stop for tacos at the local Mexican trucks in my neighborhood for the real deal as they never disappoint when looking for a late night snack. However one night I decided to drive down the trend-infested Abbot Kinney blvd. to try out one of these strange looking "gourmet" trucks I've seen parked around there for some months. A couple of the more "famous" trucks had the inevitable throng of glassy eyed sheep vacantly lining up for their nightly binge of fashion food so they can gloat at their MTV jobs the next day about what they shat that morning after spraying the bowl with over-priced alcohol.
However there was one truck that had less of an obstacle course of entitled potato-headed numb-nuttery to negotiate through so I made my way quickly to the front. The Flying Pig truck was its name and it offered a delectable assortment of mouth watering morsels. So I ordered everything on the menu. Of particular note - the sliders were better than that other truck's sliders simply because you could taste the meat and they didn't turn it into a cabbage cake like the other truck did. The tamarind duck tacos are a dream. The Korean taco was very tasty too. Braised Pork belly bun is a must. For a few bucks you can try out the whole menu and have a thoroughly enjoyable time...and not have to stand in line with a bunch of Abbot Kinney ass clowns. That alone is worth the price of admission.

Its kind of like Kogi, kind of like something healthier but takes entirely WAY TOO LONG.  There are a total of 7 people on the truck and yet it takes at least 15 minutes to get three tacos or buns. The food is flavorful but I think I am a bigger fan of Kogi.
