My favorite RV park! Clean, friendly staff, perfect location for wine tasting in Santa Ynez Valley. It's not a family fun-land type park, but perfect camping destination with all the amenities. Do me a favor and don't stay here so I can keep reserving prime spots every year!

Totally decent spot to pull over for the night if you're in a VW bus. Well-maintained showers, big, open field for people who don't need hookups, which we loved, because we parked in the middle of this field and had it to ourselves. Dog friendly, very reasonably priced. Night payment is easy, even when no one's in the office (we actually had a random resident come up to us when we were filling out the paperwork who helped us find where we needed to go).

I've been hesitant, even discouraging, of RV parks in the past. However, maybe I've been inappropriately biased against such way stations.
In part I'm biased because I don't have an RV. No RV, no reason to stay in an RV park. Except when a friend took time to plan "Wine Camp" - a camping trip to Santa Ynez Valley. Flying Flags RV Park provides convenient access to the wineries of the region.
It's nice unto itself as well. I like that they keep a wide field for tents only. The firepits and BBQ are available for rent.
It's a fine outfit and consider as a camping destination if you want to visit Santa Ynez.Listed in: Los Angeles Weekend Getaways

This review has less to do with Flying Flags as a campground, and more to do with the fact that it is a a total family vacation destination. If you're looking for a campground, as opposed to Summer Vacationland, you will want to search for a real one. But if you're looking for a place to take your family, with kids, for a weekend, this is a great option.
We just came back from a weekend here. My husband, three-year-old son and I all decided back in May that we would spend the 4th of July weekend on the Central Coast, camping. Because I failed to book camping space in a state park back in January, we had to look at privately owned campgrounds. Flying Flags was listed in my Moon Guide to California Campgrounds, and after looking at the website, I was happy to snap up one of the last "basic" campsites.
Upon arriving there, I think my son actually thought he had landed in some sort of preschool paradise. Here's why this place was freaking awesome for him as a small child...and for us as parents:
1) Great playground. It isn't just a few cheap pieces of plastic, but rather, is an awesome plastic and metal structure: two stories tall, with all kinds of chutes and ladders.
2) On-site activities. They have poolside movies after dusk on Saturdays (and holiday weekend Sundays, it seems). Saturday's was Toy Story 3...which is one of my son's all time favorites. They also had a Make-Your-Own-Sundae night earlier in the evening. Ice cream AND Toy Story 3 is about the best evening agenda that a three year old can ask for.
3) On-site recreation. The pool got a little crowded over the weekend, but was absolutely perfect in the valley heat. There's also an arcade next to the pool, which features Addams Family and South Park video games, plus air hockey, ping pong and pool for the more wholesome family types.
4) Location. It took us twelve minutes to get to Gaviota State Beach, and ten minutes to get to Solvang. It was extremely convenient for the area. There were also a zillion things to do with a three year old in the area that we didn't even get to: an ostrich farm, a short hike to Nojoqui Waterfall, etc. And there's wine country nearby as well for those people who do NOT have three year olds
5) Bathrooms. These were considerably cleaner than those at the state park...and they had electric outlets! I could have brought my hair straightener! Also, there were dish sinks outside the bathrooms that we just brought all our dishes to when we needed to wash them. Much easier than trying to wash them in basins at our campsite.
6) Atmosphere. Everyone we talked to was super nice and friendly. I quipped that we had stumbled into the Midwest. But everyone WAS nice, and helpful. And the people who were staying there all seemed to be nice and friendly as well. Everyone was totally relaxed and having a great time...and it's tough not to be in a good mood when surrounded by people having fun. It reminded me a lot of the beachside motel my family went to every summer, filled with happy families, and full of kids of every age from all over the state.
7) Cost. It cost us $33 a night to stay there - pricey for a campground, but dirt-cheap for a family vacation.
Downsides, in general:
1) Only one tent per site, which is annoying. We like having a second tent for our gear, and are used to doing that at the state campgrounds.
2) "No hookup" area was a little TOO basic. My husband remarked that it was like Coachella, with the sites marked out on an open field. It's also first come, first serve, and the staffer assigning spaces told me that even with reservations, sometimes they run out of spots. Also, the open field model meant that people were fine walking through campsites: great for when I want to take a shortcut, lousy for when we're trying to sleep.
3) On-site food costs. The "make your own sundae" bar was $4.95 for a kid size ice cream (which was still enormous) and $5.95 for a two scoop adult serving. That's Pinkberry pricing: acceptable in metro LA, but not in Buellton. Everything at the "Poolside Cafe" was much more expensive than I would have expected outside of a major city. Especially the "Quackermole and chips".
All in all though, we would totally go back here. It was a well thought out operation, well-staffed, and well-kept. I really enjoyed being there. It was very much geared to families, and perfect for us and our needs. I'm totally happy with our mini-vacation here. -

A nice enough RV park. Everything is clean and the amenities are great. We stayed here for two nights. You are in the heart of everything here. Close to the 101, the wineries, Los Olivos and Solvang.
We were in a premium site with full hookups, a small concrete area and picnic table at our site. We had no complaints. We did not have a coax and they loaned us one free of charge.
I heard the dinners are great, we missed this and had a late dinner at the Hitching Post. They also have a game room with the southpark pinball machine. We found this on the last day or we probably would have played this our entire stay here.
I am not sure there is a better option in the area. -

This place is great. I grew up camping at the state parks. If you have ever camped there, you know that you are always in a state of trouble. You parked over the line, you cannot put up a clothes line, you are too loud, and so on. This place was very therapeutic to help me recover from my state park beatings.
The staff was extremely nice. I did not get greeted with cookies like some of the other Yelpers, but they were still friendly. They had a maintenance guy show us to our site. We had an RV and Tent site combined. This was a little more, but the site was great.
We were positioned next to the pool and spa. They were great! My kids spent most of their time here. They have Saturday night movies by the pool(free). They serve ice cream with all the fixings($5). There was an arcade my kids loved. Oh, and the play area...WOW. I actually saw them pressure wash the play equipment. I was very impressed. -

I was pleasantly surprised by Flying Flags RV Park. We originally were going to stay one night while passing through Solvang but ended staying another night.
The staff are very friendly and nice-warm cookies when you check it provides just a warm welcome.
The laundry room is probably the best one I found at an RV park-super clean, not very expensive and has a lot of washers and dryers.
The hot tub is a huge plus and the pool area is very nice and clean.
Oh, and you gotta love a game room with air hockey and a pool table! -

We only stayed one night passing through on our way to Monterey and loved this place. Dog park, dog wash, great showers, cottages, heated pool & jacuzzi. We had an incredible spot for a 40ft RV.. clean with grass and they delivered a gas bbq to our site upon request. They are very friendly and keep this place looking immaculate. Fantastic park and take a walk over to "Anderson's Split Pea Soup".. Our parents stayed in the cottage getting a break from the RV and they loved it.. Hope you get a chance to enjoy this place..

Very affordable. Staff is super friendly and helpful. I love camping, but with the pool/spa, indoor spa/jacuzzi and showers it hardly felt like camping. Dog friendly as well. Views weren't bad and it's a short cab ride into downtown Solvang. I can't wait to return to this place and bring my friends. I love it and had a great time! My boyfriend and I talk about our adventure here all the time.

great home away from home. they have everything you need at the general store and the indoor spa is neat. we tent camped and got one of the "premier" sites with shade trees and wood fencing. the bathrooms/showers were very clean. grass was green.
didn't like how you have to rent a "firepit". they allow late check out till 2pm for free which is nice. also the tent camping sites have traffic noise from the 101 fwy which is kinda lame. still, its always fun under a tent. -

We're here on our second stay and extended our vacation twice. I just love this park. The employees are very friendly and helpful. They have security that roam throughout the night and that makes me feel good considering the fact that my dog takes forever to do his business after dark.
The park offers a variety of spaces, from regular to super premium for optimum space. It gets pretty busy through the weekend but I have not seen it packed to the rafters.
If you have a dog or two, no problem here. They are very dog friendly. I've come with a social dog and one who just wants to be left alone - both had a fine time in the park and their walks. They even give you cookies at check-in and biscuits for the pups!
There's a pool, two hot tubs, arcade and playground for the kids. Dog park for the dogs as well as shuttle to the nearby casino.
They also have movie nights, BBQs, breakfasts (for a fee) during some summer months and holidays. Nice family atmosphere.
A few restaurants and markets nearby. Try Mother Hubbard's if you get tired of Pea Soup Andersen's.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This is the place to stay when in town for the Solvang Century. Been here multiple times and the stay is always nice. RV or tent it doesn't matter. Relaxed environment. Great pool and spa. Hot showers, though they can get crowded after the ride. Large grassy area for frisbee or corn hole or trak ball. Friendly staff.

My husband and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary here and were very satisfied. The park was very well run, extremely clean, manicured and had security throughout on golf carts. We had a pull through site on the north end and it was so quiet. It included a concrete patio, grass area and a parking spot. This was a holiday weekend but everyone was respectful and kept the noise to a minimum and closed up shop at 10:00pm. The best part was we rented a car from Enterprise and they came and picked me up. We rode back to their office in Lompoc which only took about an hour. When we were finished we simply dropped the keys off at the Parks' front desk as Enterprise has an agreement with Flying Flags. I didn't have to drive back to Lompoc to turn the car in! Would definitely stay here again as the management really knows what they are doing.

We had a great camping experience here. We got cookies upon arrival and our dog even got a goody bag. We reserved a Basic Plus campsite, which had lots of shade trees and plenty of flat grass to pitch our tent. The grounds were very clean, the bathrooms spotless and the amenities were overwhelming. The complex was very quiet which was a nice change to some of the busy state parks. The friendly staff let us jump in the hot tub 30 minutes early one morning so that we could warm up from a cold and rainy night. We will definitely return.

We drove here to attend a rally. I liked how the grass was actually green everywhere in the park. The spa was nice and the BBQ they had on sat was good.. We rode our bikes to Solvang, not to far of a rid..

By far the best food in the valley. The Hitching Post ain't got nuthin' on this RV Park.
Seriously, what the hell is wrong with Yelp if a damn trailer park is listed as a restaurant! -

We stayed in the RV area for 3 nights this past summer--great experience. However, I came back this past week with a visiting friend for one night in one of the cottages. I called about 2 weeks before for the reservation for one night--rate of $99 per night--$108 w/tax--sounded great! We usually stay at Andersen's at $80 per night including tax, but the cottages are roomy and have a small kitchen, so the change to Flying Flags cottage for the extra $28 sounded good. They even sent me an email message confirming the one-night stay for a total of $108 with tax. However, one day before our arrival, I rec'd a phone call saying that there is a 2-night minimum, and I'd have to pay an add'l $25 for cleaning if we want to stay just one night. Long story short--I was understandably annoyed and let them know. It was too late to cancel (they have a 14-day cancellation policy for cabins!!!!), and it was too late to try to get a reservation elsewhere, so I had to "eat it." Not fair--there is (and I pointed this out to them to no avail) absolutely NO WHERE on the website or on the flyer they gave me on my previous stay any mention of a 2-night minimum--especially on a non-holiday weekday--or any "extra" cleaning fee. Both ladies I spoke with said they'd tell the manager about my complaint. Do you think they did? Of course not. When I took the key to the office to check out the next day, the only response from the receptionist was "okay--I'll call Richard (maintenance guy) to go take a look at the unit." He entered the cottage without knocking and told my startled friend that he was coming in to make sure that we didn't have a flat screen TV in our trunk, --ha ha ha. How insulting. Well, my bottom line is this: I'll go there again, at least to the RV section in our motorhome, and the cottages are very nice. However, the office staff need to either have serious customer service training or be replaced. And the MANAGER, wherever he or she was, needs to be removed, pronto. It's a beautiful place that could be successful, but I predict it will go under if changes aren't made soon. BTW, the cleaning crew who came in at 11:59 (note that checkout time is 12noon) speak no English and looked at me with contempt when they saw that we left no tip--wasn't the extra $25 meant for them? And I sincerely hope that they are in the country legally and that Flying Flags checks on such details. I wouldn't bet on it.

We enjoy staying at this RV park when we drive through the area. It has a decent playground and though there could be more room between spaces, it's not as crammed as many parks are. The main store is nice and employees are generally friendly. Nice, quiet town nearby. We've stayed there several times now.

I don't know. I don't get it. Giant rv's with all kinds of unnecessary stuff sitting on little gravel pads stacked one on top of the other. Where are the trees? Where is the nature? If you like hearing freeway noise, seeing lots of kids riding their bikes, wall to wall rv's, have a big rig you need to park somewhere so you can get away from home and recreate it here in beautiful Buelton, then this is the spot for you.

this place is fantastic! great, friendly, ever present staff is helpful. the amenities are great the spaces are spotless, and they have great events there as well. one night was a bbq for $4.50 and afterward they played a movie behind the pool on the grass at night for kids, the next day the had a build your own ice cream sundea, and hay rides all day for the kids! the place is great, we will be going back, it is next to anderson's pea soup and 4 minutes from solvang and other great day trips (especially 40 minutes from fantastic splash cafe in pismo)

Torrance, CA
We love this place & return every year. We have two small kids, it's great for families but not too noisy so very peaceful nights. It's very clean, tiled showers are spotless, there's an arcade and a nice pool, a smaller workout facility but the equipment is nice, and nice areas to ride bikes. You're only minutes from Solvang & Los Olivos is right up the road. We usually take the kids fruit picking, whatever's in season (apples, blueberries) and there's plenty of restaurants nearby if you don't feel like cooking. It's literally next door to Anderson's Split Pea so you can walk there easily. There's also a small store in the check-in area in case you forgot anything or want an ice cream, but grocery stores within minutes. It's very trustworthy, very nice RV's and no "riff raff"...we've had more & more problems lately with people stealing from campgrounds and it's not fun to have to lock all your stuff up at night! In fact, if you steal...don't come here! All in all, a great park with lots to do nearby.
