Fly bar has the magical combination of dim lighting and loud music that relieves the burden of dull company. Dranks help too, I guess.
My middle school self would have died in here - star shaped paper lanterns, DIY canvas turned mirror mosaics, and those tear-drop lanterns that made Starbucks cool back when nobody gave a fuck about local businesses. The place looks like somebody raided Urban Outfitters circa 2004 and thought, "that's good for this century." It's all part of Fly Bar's greatest feature: it is NOT pretentious.
The beers are average price for SF and they only have Saktails, a cheap way for businesses to avoid the whole liquor license thing. The menu is aiiiight but the real Hootie of the Blowfish is the Carmel Blue pizza: crispy crust, skanky blue cheese, creamy garlic sauce, sweet onions. Gimme gimme more. -

Delicious sake-bombs (like actually tastier than average) and sake/soju cocktails. My friends and I usually 'end up' at Fly Bar pretty frequently. Too bad the DJ was kind of a d-bag to us the last time we were there.
I know DJs don't like taking requests and having to play popular songs but it was a Saturday night at a popular bar. Save the underground experimentation for a weeknight... or at least don't perpetuate soul-draining lies like "I'll play it next!".
Even worse was after my friend and I's Kanye request got shut down I tried to act all cool and request some less mainstream hip hop acts... only to be further shot down with the expressed disapproval of my taste in music. So cruel, Fly Bar. So cruel. -

Came for drinks which were fabulously cheap and if you come a little early on a Sat you can get a table by the window and people watch. The wait staff was pretty attentive and one person ended up ordering a pizza, which was actually pretty amazing. Great little place, a truly casual but not divey bar.

First time in this softly lit little place, and found it to be a great place to grab drinks and and food with friends. I enjoyed their "not full bar" status as it kept the place very hang-out-with-pals/date friendly and the atmosphere was less of a meat market and more of a hip place to eat.
We ordered the hummus plate, which served four of us with ease for appetizers, a pizza, which was small but again gave us all a taste, and then finished the evening up with the baked brie - another tasty treat. Everything was good. Not grandstand amazing, but certainly decent enough that were it a quieter spot, I'd bring my parents here to try it out.
And they make cocktails from sake. It's different, interesting, and fun. Embracing the difference over here at Fly.
Oh yes, and the service was really good. Our waitress was easy-going, attentive, and one of the better servers I've had at a place such as this. -

My wife and I live on the Central Coast and make it a point to see a concert at least 3 times a year in The City. We always make time to grab a bite to eat and a drink at happy hour before the show. Fly is exactly what we love about the city. Edgy, moody, simple eats and drinks. The music is always great and the service is just perfect for us.

Ok....
You don't have a full bar.
AND you have a limited menu?
I mean... extremely limited.
There have been very few times I've walked into a place, sat down, ordered a drink, looked at the menu, and immediately wanted to leave. My poor bestie had to convince me to at least finish our drinks. I was starving, too. Which should tell you how unimpressive the menu was. I didn't even want to try anything!
Poor, poor service. We walked in and couldn't really tell if we were supposed to seat ourselves and look for a menu or if someone was eventually going to direct us. The bartender pretty much ignored us, so we figured we'd just grab our own seats.
I freakin HATE soju cocktails. Gross. -

I feel like I take Fly Bar for granted and I'm really really sorry because, this weekend, I was once again reminded of why this place is awesome.
The boy and I were looking for a low-key spot to grab some dinner. After much deliberation, we decided on Fly Bar. I'm glad we came in when we did because there was ONE table for two open once we arrived. It was pretty busy!
We ordered the Mediterranean salad for starters which came with mixed greens, feta cheese, beets, olives, bits of potato salad, and oil & vinegar dressing. This is probably my favorite of their salads. We also ordered the Blanco pizza - sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, red onions, scallions, and garlic sauce. Their pizzas are thin and crunchy and a great option for groups since they are the perfect size for sharing. Their bar is beer and wine only!
This is a great date place or a place to grab a low-key dinner, but keep in mind that it can get busy, crowded and loud during HH time!Listed in: Date-night!, Spots on Divis

I really only like this place before 5pm, with a decent happy hour on pizzas. I love their downtown brown beer and the low key factor. Most of the bartenders are great and it's never crowded during the day. Love the local art and the pool table is chill if you aren't fighting off people to play. Great local neighborhood hangout. I am not a liquor person, so the beer/wine only thing is perfect for me.

I love the two corner seats at the bar. It seems like every time I've come here, they're available.
I love the DJ who was spinning last Saturday night. One awesome jam after another... So smooth, so fly. And he didn't use a damn iPod... He was spinning records. KRS One, Beastie Boys, TLC.... oh my.
I love the Korea Colada for $6!
I love that they have sake shots for $3.
I love that they have beer and don't charge you $8 for it like in the Marina.
I love their interior and the laid back vibe.
I love that they have food. And pizza. And happy hour.
I love their bartenders.
I love that they have pool.
I love that I can wear flip flops on a rainy day and no one will care.
I love that I have a blast every time I come here.
I love that after I left here, I felt like I could fly, fly, fly so high.Listed in: Kick back and Relax!, Bar None

I'm trying to wrap my mind around why everyone is being so generous with this place. I guess I came on an off night, but wow. Appetizer took at least 25-30 minutes to come out (it was the baked brie app. How hard could that be? Throw some cheese in the oven and bake it for a few minutes). Entrees came out roughly 30-40 minutes later (2 pizzas and a salad. We're not asking you to bake an apple pie). I mean REALLY.
And the food was just ok, nothing to write home about. Certainly not worth waiting that long. And there's not even a full bar! Ok, I'm done whining. -

Fly Bar is a neighborhood eatery. Their sandwiches aren't bad. Their salads are simple. Their beer and wine selection is plain, but fairly local. It's all rather reasonably priced. They get pretty busy, which usually turns me off, but since I can walk down the street to them, I hit them up at off hours and grab a beer and a round of pool and am quite content.

Anyone else know the salads here are pretty damn good? I have been too busy ordering happy hour 'shroom pies to notice. Then I came here to catch up with an old girlfriend and she ordered the Fruit to Nuts. In under two bites I was hooked. I can't wait to come back.

Review from Misha T.
Vying for Misha's favorite bar on Divis status with the slightly superior Page, Fly Bar is just always playing the hip hop from the 90's that I want to hear. I feel like 20 somethings are all in that boat and it's surprising more bars don't cater to it.

This place was really cute and quaint, and had really good deals during happy hour. The cocktails are delicious, and are made with sake. I ordered the Japanese Chiwawa, which was just the right amount of sweet.
Because my roommate is vegetarian, we shared the carmel blue and the spinach and artichoke dip. For the prize, the pizza was really big and filling. Both items were a little heavier than I would have liked, but in the end I was really satisfied with my trip to fly bar. -

The place is small and kind of funky.
The sake cocktails are pretty good, and pretty cheap.
You come here for the food though. So good and so random at a bar.
They have a pool table, but it's kind of cramped and I've never really seen it free.
It's been a long time since I've gone here for happy hour, but I remember it being a good deal. -

Mild conflict of interest:
Best time to come here is for Happy Hour (3-7)
($5.95 Pizzas, $2.75 Pints)
However, due to the poor lighting, darkly painted walls, and general dankness, this is not a good afternoon bar.
The pizza is totally respectable, especially for $6.
Service is usually slow, but friendly.
Beer and wine only, pool table in back, good music playing... a perfect place to start an evening, or just to frequent on a quiet night. -

Good for happy hour until 6:30pm but I think the pizzas taste better at the other location on sutter although parking here is definitely easier. Pizzas are $6 and $1 off draft beers, sangria, and sake cocktails. Theres a decent variety of pizzas although I thought they were a little undercooked this time. They also have a pool table which cost $1 in quarters, however the table and balls are a bit small and the walls get in the way. Either way its a decent place for happy hour but theres better ones out there. -

In my many years of drinking, I can honestly say that I've never drank a bar out of a particular kind of alcohol. Until last night. Myself, along with a trio of lovely ladies drank all of the champagne at Fly Bar. All three bottles of it. Pretty sure that they'll order some more, but don't go there today and order any ;)
The late night menu is pretty awesome - we shared the chips, guac and salsa. Pretty good! It was a generous portion, too.
Servers are super cool and made us feel very welcome the entire time.
Definitely a 5-star establishment!Listed in: Pure Perfection, California Girls, Adults Only, 5-star Service

This place saved my night! I was banking on eating at the Saffron Grill next door but the place was crazy small, zero ambiance, and looked really dirty. So, we decided to not use Yelp this time and just walk around.
Serendipity does exist! They serve food!! And excellent food at that! Their salads are huge and extremely filling!! Really, no joke! I didn't exactly like my sandwich but I ordered a chicken sandwich and it was kinda dry but despite that I LOVED this place!
Great drink selection and excellent service! We ate at the bar and the bartender gave us some free samples of his favorite cocktails.
I went here on a Saturday evening. Not too crowded and definitely not empty. Will def be back for the salad! -

Popped in a couple nights ago while bar hopping for the boyfrond's 25th. We came on a friends suggestion, as we'd never been there before.
The decor is super fun! They are a beer and wine only bar (they do serve saki and serve saki cocktails.) There was a pool table I remember seeing, but it was completely occupied- but fun!
The service was great. The bartender was patient, polite, and a cutie!
We weren't there long, but I'd try this place again. -

[3.5 Stars]
Your plan for the night:
1. order drinks + food
- happy hour specials include $3 sangria, $1 off draft beer, and $1 off sake cocktails
- sangria was pungent, and not in a good way, like there was some anaerobes growing in the bottom of the cup....
- sake was naaaastaay and weak, kinda had an after taste similar to the smell of the streets of the TL
- of course, draft beer is beer [in my opinion the smell of beer is very similar to the smell of bums peeing on themselves, so i avoid it]
2. insert 4 quarters for billiards as you wait for your food
- small pool table in a dark corner in the back with a low hanging light~ totally legit!
- since its in a tight corner, they provide you with a short stick for your convienience =]
- by the time you are done with your first game, the food comes
3. eat
we came in a party of 3, and ordered 3 happy hour pizza's at $5.95 each
- mmm...MEAT pizza: packed with tons of meat, guys enjoy this pizza ....because it has tons of meat....
- blanco pizza: jack cheese, white white garlic sauce, scallions and sundried tomatoes: leaves you with a feeling that something is missing from the pizza, the sundried tomatoes were a nice kick though
- the funky chicken pizza: basically a bbq chicken pizza - standard and well executed
- the pizza's were drier compared to the sutter location
4. enjoy
- 90's music featuring notorious BIG, wu tang clan, big pun
although the drinks were certainly sub-par for a "bar" the food was pretty good - not as good as the sutter location - but still enjoyable considering i had sushi buffet 4 hrs prior. however since this location has a pool table, it adds to the experience. with good company, this place can turn into a 5 star experience easy! just bring your friends and have a good time! -

I love fly bar! The atmosphere is laid back and the staff is friendly. The food is also pretty good. I occasionally get a little sad that I can't ever get a cocktail but their beer and wine selection is good at least! :)

I really like the ambiance in here: dark lighting; pretty mosaic art; good music, yet sports on the tv; people dining; people just getting drinks at the bar; people playing pool near the back... I just dig it.
Their pizzas and salads are very highly recommended. Let me warn you that the salads are HUGE - one pizza and one salad is plenty for two (and a cheap meal!) -
Review from Angelique M.
San Francisco, CA
I'm being very generous on my rating for Fly Bar.
Service was good, sangria was great, Saki cocktails were ok (interesting), and nachos were ok . The crowd was chill and cool--lighting was dull and dim. I came to Fly Bar with high expectations from the reviews on Yelp and I left feeling I would probably come back if I had to, but I wouldn't jump through hoops to do so.
Because the service and beverages were good I give Fly Bar an OK.
Although, I got FOOD POISONING from the nachos, because of the great reviews from Yelp I'm assuming it was a freak of nature and something out of the norm for this place. However, what I was most irritated with was when I called the following day (practically on my death bed) to give them heads up to check their food, the weekend manager didn't seem interested, and asked if I had the flu instead. I think we all know the difference between a flu and food poisoning without going into details. He never asked my name or number and only brushed me off with an apology already tarnished by doubt. Not cool buddy. I was reluctant on Yelping about this, but because of the nonchalant attitude of the severity of this issue, I assume they wouldn't care if I did so. -
Review from Anna R.
Miss Natasha R. took me here for some happy hour drinks while we were waiting on a couple of spots to open up at a nearby nail salon. One sangria turned into 3 plus two pizzas.
This happy hour rocks! $3 sangrias (large glasses) are a great start to a fun night out in the city. We ordered the portobello mushroom pizza with pesto and a margeritha pizza. Both were too die for, although the mushroom one was slightly favored. At $5.50 ($9 regular), this is one of the cheapest happy hours since one pizza per person is plenty.
Cute ambiance with chairs at the bar and some intimate tables throughout the rest of the place. Billiards table presents a mellow, fun activity if you're in a group. Bar tenders are friendly and efficient.
I'll insist that we are going back here the next time I crash at Natasha R.'s for girls night out!Listed in: Best Happy Hour, Liquor me up, buttercup!

Happy hour. Perhaps my favorite phrase in the English language. And Fly Bar does it right. Great deals on food (tasty food that gets to you quick) and drinks.
I dont know about the mixed drinks since I had beer but lots of people had yummy-looking colorful concoctions in front of them...maybe next time I may try their sangria or something. We shared a pizza and a sandwich and the chips and dip. The pizza and the sandwich were good, typical san francisco bar food but tasty. The guacamole and the salsa left a little something to be desired though, sort of bland, not terribly fresh and not enough for the huge plate of chips...but oh well, its a bar and it was good enough. I had fun, I would go back and do it again. -

Fun fact: I confused this one with the other Fly Bar.
I've been here like 10 times and I love it every time.
Its my favorite bar in the hood. Pizzas are good, fruit to nuts salad, yum. -
Review from Preeti B.
Brooklyn, NY
I was introduced to Fly Bar by my favorite bi-coastal yelper transplant, Miss Preethi C. We caught up over some wine, hummus and an italian salad pizza. I tried the Cabernet and the Pinot Noir and was very happy with both glasses. Pinot Noir at a bar is always a hit or miss for me, but Preethi insightfully commented on a big difference between wining in NYC and SF. Simply put, patrons in SF would not tolerate shitty wine at a bar. In NYC, bad things can happen in your wine glass --- even at the ripe cost of $12!!
All said and observed - Fly Bar was the perfect indulgence on a girlishly lovely evening...a Preet(h)i always knows what's good. -

I wound up here while biking around looking for a place to watch the NBA finals game after work, since it was the only bar close by that served food. I came alone as usual, story of my life. Loneliness aside, I was pretty impressed.
The happy hour specials are awesome. $6 pizzas and specials on drafts and signature cocktails. I wasn't crazy about the carmel blue pizza, but some of the others looked great. I had a Scrimshaw and a whiskey sour as well. The beer selection is a little lacking, but they have a large full bar, interesting decor, and the service was still good. I'll definitely be coming back here, hopefully with a hot date next time.
Oh, and it's not really a sports bar - they only have one TV, but I didn't mind at all. -
Review from Roxane W.
This is a beer/wine bar only. No hard liquor. Six of us came here "late" at night on a Saturday.
A few things that disappointed:
1) Only ONE bathroom. Literally.
2) Beer and wine only.
3) My sauvignon blanc cost $8 and was smaller than a regular glass of wine.
A few things to come back for:
1) Great art on the wall and pool table.
2) Ambiance / decor / music all very nice (date like)
3) Friendly waitstaff and not overly crowded.
So, I would come back for happy hour, a date, or as a way to start my night out with friends.. But I wouldn't come here expecting to boooooze. -

There is a large chunk of brie cheese you can have delivered to your table. It is accompanied by the perfect amount of bread. Get it, you will be pleased.
They also have sake cocktails, which won't even get a twelve-year-old drunk, but taste pretty great. I did see some twelve-year-olds in there, which I thought was weird, but technically the place is also a restaurant.
Minus one star for the twelve-year-olds! -
