Bocci Ball, affordable drinks, large screen TV, gothic furniture and couches - Floyd NY is perfect for the Brooklyn Heights crowd looking for a fun evening out w/ a group. You can order pizza to the bar and exercise by hurling balls down the lane in the back.  If you like the atmosphere and decor here you'll love The Bell House near the Gowanus canal. That place is HUGE and always has wonderful live music, brought to you by the same owners of Floyd.

** Beware: The Wesleyan alumni come out  here in droves.

Brooklyn, WE GO DOMESTICATED.

What I had on the text with my girl: "I'm here, OH MY GOD BROOKLYN, even the bartender is married."

This is a watering hole for the 25+ set. It's a bar filled with people who are over their post college angst and quiet their internal turmoil about what to do for the rest of their adult lives with cheap well made drinks. It's a sportyish bar, but it radiates a very distinct comfy feeling.

The place is filled with neighborhood folks and people visiting. The urban-suburban after work vibe is chilllllll, this is a very relaxing place. My five dollar scotch and soda was very well made, not too strong but I felt like I got a good deal.

They have one landing strip for boccie ball, lots of nooks and crannies for groups to get cozy in, and a clean bathroom.

I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Floyd is preeeettty prettttty preeeeeettty sweet.  They have a bucket o beer.  They also have beer cheese.  And bocci ball.  I've never played bocci here cause there is a line.  I also am not an old italian man so that's probably the other reason I never played bocci ball here.  It gets pretty crowded but I'd expect that from a place that serves BUCKETS OF FUCKING BEER!

Douchebags not welcome.  Unless they are the hygienic product then you should take that as a compliment.

This is a great neighborhood bar with a very chillaxin kind of vibe (I just wanted to use chillax in a sentence).

The crowd is mixed, neighborhood locals and a bunch of lawyers or future lawyers from the nearby court houses and law school.

What I like most about this bar is the ample amount of space. Even at its most crowded (like on a new year's eve party) it's still not that crowded.

They have bocce ball which is always fun, but some nights are league nights and the pros won't let you play. Don't worry you too can become a pro, it takes all of five minutes to learn how to play this game.

The drinks are pretty cheap, it's a good place for a goup and they let you bring in food from outside. What more can you ask for?

Bocce, crapacopia, and English footy.

As part of my "au revoir Atlantic" tour I popped into Floyd on my last night in the neighborhood. I've enjoyed this place at every time of day. Premier League soccer in the mornings (you can order a full english breaky from next door), bocce in the afternoon, and roll on the evenings you can order unconventional delights such as the crapacopia bucket (a variety of crap beers such as PBR) and crackers and cheese whiz.

I've been to its sister bar in Park Slope and have to say...Floyd has them beat. The cool, but not trying to be cool, crowd, vintage furniture, and straightforward bar staff create an awesome neighborhoody vibe.

A laid back, unpretentious, easy going bar. Definitely a fun place to kick back with a group of friends, play bocce, and skip out on Manhattan priced drinks. Floyd's usually has good tunes on with a neighborhood sort of vibe.

If you're looking for a larger venue with a bit of a busier atmosphere, head over to it's parent locale, Union Hall. They have a rustic reading atmosphere with its library style decor in the front, wooden booths, and more bocce courts.

Floyd is the perfect place to grab a drink after work or spend a low-key weekend night.

I've been to Floyd for everything from a book club meeting to a New Year's Eve party and this place is versatile enough that it seems to fit all occasions.

My three favorite things about Floyd: 1) Bocce. Always a good time and you have to love a bar with built-in entertainment (beyond the cocktails, that is); 2) You can bring in your own food; 3) Dogs. This place is dog-friendly and I'm always entertained seeing a dog or two wandering around the bar.

Young clientele. Very VERY young clientele. As in: do not get cozy with anyone here or you may end up on a sex offender registry and will have to move more than 500 yards away from a school. The one time I was here (for one drink) there was even a person checking IDs out front!

I'll give it two stars because the decor is nice and its a good sized bar with good prices (I had a bottle of Amstel Lite and a Jim Beam kicker and I will NOT complain about the pour I had.) Its just hard to enjoy while sitting next to seemingly high school aged kids having the classic rhetorical who-was-more-drunk-when debate. I will try back on a school night and I'll probably really like it.

You can play bocce here!   In case you've never heard of bocce, it's kinda like bowling, except 1) it's more fun, 2) it's free, and 3) it's a little easier (well, maybe it's just that I'm just terrible at bowling, but still).   Plus the sand court is a little bumpy, adding a fun element of chance to your game!

Floyd's has one bocce court in the back of the bar, and you can play for free.  (Sign up on the paper next to the court). They have league games on Saturdays, and you can meet some fun people.  If you don't know how to play bocce, just ask anyone in the bar.

A few weeks ago, I spent a lazy Tuesday night playing bocce with some friends, while drinking $1.5 cans of cheap beer.  If you're in the neighborhood, it's great way to spend a rainy day.

This place quite literally felt like home.  The couches are a big PLUS considering I was wearing Shit-tay shoes for serious nyc exploring.  We got a bucket of beer that included PBR (just like home) and the champagne of beers.  Played some ball, embarrassed myself, had a shot and played with some dogs (?) Awesome experience.

I have four younger siblings.  One has attained legal drinking age.  When I stop by Floyd, I feel as though I'm attending a reunion hosted by the friends of the three who haven't.  A few years ago, I was begged by a 17 yo for beer.  I don't think I'd babysat him, but I had to think about it.  I guess he'd been "cut off."  Neither did he need more beer nor should he have been served in the first place.

Now add to the mix Brooklyn Law School kids.  I know lawyer school can be oppressively stressful, but maybe, you know, just keep it to yourself.  I don't care about "civil procedure, brah!!!"

There's also almost always some iteration of the British lunatic who will ask you where you can buy drugs in this sleepy little hamlet.  Well, mate, I can't say, but if you're dousing near Brooklyn Heights, you win some sort of award for poor directional skills.  Sure, the teens inside have the stuff they bought with their lunch money, but do you really want to see yourself haggling with a 17 year old over a dime bag in the rain?

More to the point, the staff here isn't nice.  They've reached the critical point where they no longer need to be.  They can't make drinks very well (not a huge deal if you like canned beer).

If it weren't for bocce, this would be just some random everyday bar in Brooklyn.  Friendly albeit, but sort of character-less...

BUT, it *DOES* have bocce, so it transforms into something interesting, something new, something to stimulate us over stimulated New Yorkers, and give us a new experience, a new date, a new evening, a new moment in our A.D.D. lives!!

I think they also have beer specials, but why get distracted with that in the review.  As I said, they have bocce here.  I can't remember if there are two lanes, or just one.  I think there were two.

What's bocce you say?  Well you roll a ball down a lane, so in that way it's like bowling, but that's where the similarity ends.  First one small ball gets rolled, and then each team tries to roll their four larger balls as CLOSE as they can to the small ball.  But if one hits the small ball, then the whole dynamic changes because previously thrown balls may be closer now.  Make sense?  Best to try it and see.

It's been at least a year, maybe longer since I've been to this place, but lemme try to recall the story.  I went here with my friend Alex, and we met a girlfriend of his there... and while we were waiting for her to arrive, we decided to play against these two guys there.  Turns out they're in a league, and are pro bocce players.  So we are all playing dumb, hustling them a bit, and then we start playing, and throw after throw we're beating them.  I don't know where they got their credentials, or certifications but they kinda sucked.  They were getting worked up, and seemed kind of embarrassed when we ended up winning by quite a lot.

Moral of the story, no experience required folks!!  Fun game, and new and interesting date spot.

Not going to complain about the wait for the bocce, I didn't play, but it was fun to watch. The beer selection is average, a couple of nice crafts, big whiskey selection too. The "American Bucket" is clever and a good deal. 6 cans of domestics in a bucket for $12. Also the colt 45 and a bullet, a can of colt 45 and a shot of Bulleit Bourbon.
The atmosphere was nice and loungey, big sofas and comfortable chairs. Would definitely head back here again.

Quirky with very british flair.  Decent beers and relaxed atmosphere make for a pleasant place to chat and relax.  Dark, rough, well worn wood covers floors and walls, adding to the sense that the place has been frequented by innumerable patrons.

And for good reason.

This is my new favorite go-to bar if only because I just adopted a dog and they allow dogs! In fact, they are significantly dog and child-friendly. I think this is fantastic.

The only downside is that it gets REALLY loud in here, sometimes hard to carry on a conversation, but the couches are comfy, the people are uber friendly, the drinks are good, and it's an all-round fun place to be.

I experienced a new concept at Floyd last night.

Floyd doesn't serve food.  So, instead of being stuck with icky, greasy bar food or going hungry (which is never good while drinking) we got pizza from around the block.  And brought it back to eat at Floyd.

Where I'm from, it'd be looked down upon (if not outright prohibited) to bring another restaurants food into a bar.  I loved being able to mow down huge slices and garlic knots while enjoying the vodka soda that Tom made me.

Which brings me to my next point.  Tom.  Tom is a shining example of a bartender.  He'll chat, but not incessantly.  He's quick with the drinks.  And when you ask for extra limes, he gives you seven.

I was a little disappointed that it was so packed on Wednesday that we couldn't even get the bocce court.  Between that and how far out it is, I won't be going back too often, but maybe in the winter when the summer crowd dies down a little.

We used to live on top of this bar so we were definitely regulars. Especially since our living room was the size of a closet.
After work, my ex and I would go there for a little drinky drink and a game of bocce ball in a comfty, quietish atmosphere. Its a simple place really. A neighborhood type of spot. Red velvet coaches for smoozing, or chat up the friendly bartenders at the bar. We used to bring in some goodies from the ChipShop next door too for the full living room effect :-p the only thing that could make this place better is a coat check and a back yard garden that so many other places in the park slope/heights area boast

4*er= Floyd, if you were a man, I'd rub your head.

$5 pints, bocce, and an interior that is a cross between the hotel from The Shining and the set of Marie Antoinette make Floyd a sure bet for a Friday night in Brooklyn.

Yes, it has that bleach-and-spilt beer smell that is a sign of any well worn watering hole. But Hoegaarden on tap, knowledgeable bar staff and friendly, good looking Brooklynites make up for any olfactory offenses.

I never really thought much of this place until I met the some of the bocce league players. I think that's what really sells the place for me. The people. Every bocce game I've ever played there has been fun. This place seems to attract every type of person which is always nice.

The only downer I can think of is sometimes the place smells like an old bar, but it may be because there's a fish and chips place next door. But who really cares, oh and the juke box is pretty sweet.

I wanted to love this place.  I mean it has Bocce for fuck's sake.  Bocce freakin' ball!!!

But, my experience started with a no look pass.  Elaborate?  Sure.

I order.  Hand the bartender a twenty-spot and he is so enthralled with with his convo with a co-worker, that he reaches behind to practically throw my change onto the bar.

No eye contact. No thank you.  Excuse me? Turning around to hand me my change is too much trouble?

I automatically left a tip, but upon reflection I really wanted to walk back over to the bar and grab it back.

1 star for the great space
1 star for the Belgian beer on tap
1 star for a great vibe

But that's it.  The service NEVER got better.  I even gave the place a second shot.

Worth moving to Brooklyn for.  Seriously.  I say that without a drop of irony or malice.  Somehow this place managed to melt away all my Manhattan snobbery (and believe me I have plenty) to turn into one of my favorite host venues for a Yelp elite event thus far.

First there's the bar itself.  A warm, sunny, friendly melange of faded victorian couches, round wooden tables, and a stately mahogany bar surround an indoor bocce ball court.  Now, I am not one to brag of my athletic prowess, but for an unknown reason, I happen to be very good at bocce ball.  Who knew?

Then there's the staff.  Josh and Courtney are perhaps the two most awesome people ever to man the bars at a Yelp event (or ever) and they made everything a dream for Russ and me.  Prices are totally reasonable for everything from beer to top shelf martinis.  And the attitude of the place just says "yes, you are totally welcome here."

So should I ever decide to settle down, adopt a Malaysian baby (or something) and move to Brooklyn, I will make sure that wherever I live, it's within walking distance of Floyd.  I am quite a fan.

Great laid back bar that's a stone's throw from my apartment.  The
bartenders are friendly, as are the clientele.  Drinks normally hover
around $6 for beer, cocktails and wine, although there are always
specials on crappy beer like PBR or Schlitz (why oh why do people like
this stuff?).  The bartenders make some really STRONG, generous
drinks.  Have you ever had a vodka tonic in a 16 oz tumbler?  I
hadn't, until I ordered one here - that was some vodka tonic!

This is also a great place to watch sports, especially soccer -- it
seems to show all the televised matches.  Even if you're not into
watching sports, perhaps a game of bocce ball will interest you. Yes,
there's a bocce ball court inside!

Floyd doesn't serve any food, but feel free to order food for
delivery, or pick something up from the Chip Shop next door and bring
it over.  Sit at the bar, the tables or the comfy couches and enjoy.

There are only two things that scare me about Floyd: 1) the music selection; and 2) the chalkboard menu that offers "Kentucky Beer Cheese, $4."  Because what the heck is beer cheese??

*UPDATED: After 2 years of coming here, I finally saw someone order the Kentucky Beer Cheese.  It's apparently made with flat beer.  The couple eating this described it as "Ritz crackers with a spicy cream cheese."  Hmph.  Yeah, still scary.

One word explains my rating - crapacopia (not sure that's how its spelled).  Six of the best craptastic beers you know and love served in a bucket!  Nothing better.

Also, Floyd manages to be a cozy and unassuming bar without feeling like a dive or a frat house.

I prefer Floyd for a happy hour as opposed to a crowded weekend night, but I've had fun on weekends, too.  The comfy couches, bocce court, and dim lighting all add to the cozy and unique atmosphere of Floyd.  For locals, this is a happy hangout.  For Manhattanites, this is a nice change of pace from the overpriced and overly posh bars you are used to.

I tried to be more discerning and judgmental about Floyd, but I can't. Sure, my friends in the law school stand around in cliques, but for a working girl like myself it means more room to push through easier and get to the bar.

It's never actually that packed, being in Brooklyn, and the only lines are ones for bocce ball. I don't actually play bocce, it looks really lame, but you have to love with balls (get it?) enough to have it.

With plenty of spots to sit and shmooze and always a few great beers on tap, if Floyd was in Manhattan it would be ruined in two weeks. Lucky for me, it's got a long shelf life.

Wicked spot, makes for a good one-two punch for some Atlantic Ave stumblemonkeys. You can start off at Floyd, grab one of their patented grab bag buckets of shitty domestic beer (you'll find genne cream & schlitz nestled right alongside pabst here - there's not hipster edification of the shit beer market at work here) then head over to Last Exit for some yummy beers. And indeed if you need some nourishment to go along with your crappy beers, bocce & fairly bad juke box, you just order up some tucker from the Chi Shop next door. The place is large, has a bunch of couches to chill on, and (oh yes) a bocce court. It's got an acerbic hipster clientle, I like to get into it with them all sometimes.

The owners opened another spot in Park Slope called Union Hall which is way more crowded and has far too much of a Manhattan feel for my liking. Stick with the original, and accept no substitutes.

I've had some really nice times here at Floyd.  The bartenders are great, the jukebox has a heavy country selection, and I'm a sucker for the tattered couch thing.  But my main interest in Floyd is the bocce, a game whose simple perfection is the near-embodiment of zen.

Last night we noticed that the court's smoothness has given way to all manners of ruts and bumps.  We were forced to play our shots like a putter at the Augusta National, working with and against gravity.  After a brief dinner rendezvous, we returned to learn why: beefy Brooklyn Law students were abusing the court as if it were a game of petanque.  Each "roll" was, in fact, a wrist-snapping hurl, and each hurl created a brand new centimeter-deep divot near the center of the court.  It was horrifying.  It was sacrilege.  It was idiocy.

Nietzsche had a breakdown, says the legend, when he witnessed the repeated flogging of a willful horse, and we had to get out of Floyd fast lest we suffer the same fate.  We left word with the too-busy-to-notice bartender on the way out, and can only hope the court can be repaired.

If Union Hall is like the "parlor" and "leisure quarters" of your extremely wealthy, "old money" great uncle, Floyd is like his bastard brother who did not receive quite the same amount of inheritance, as a result of being a badass with an attitude. It has the charm, and somewhat the gilded demeanor of Union Hall (i.e. working fireplace, literature strewn around, and, of course, BOCCE), but definitely a bit grittier and casual.

The place is never really crowded, but that only allows more room for the clientele to get a little rowdier. It is not at all uncommon to see large groups of friends carousing in the back tables, while a strange, lone dog leisurely walks through without anyone batting an eyelash. With all sorts of ales on tap, bucket of beers, full liquor bar, and the unabashed canned beer selection at all very reasonable prices; you are bound to quench your most insatiable thirst without your wallet really noticing. Even if you are stretched for cash, you can win beer money quickly at the bocce court, since the wait to play bocce is actually tolerable and possible, which cannot be necessarily said for Uncle Union Hall.

Good beer, nice place, love the bocce court.
Biggest problem with the place is the very young crowd.  Mostly Brooklyn Law 1Ls who haven't graduated to Smith St. yet?  Also, any time I've gone alone I've ended up sitting alone, speaking to no one.

Glorious!  All the usual things that make a Brooklyn bar charming but with one huge exceptional exception.  They have an actual bocce court indoors...I've never played until this raindrenched to sundrenched Sunday but it really wiles away the hours.  I don't know how I could have missed this place all of these years but I'm just happy to know about it now.  I'd like to join one of the many cleverly named bocce teams.  My favorites are as follows: Boccelism, Mayor Ed Bocce, and last but not definately not least...Joanie loves Bocce.  I also met an awesome bulldog who was oddly yet aptly named "Robert".  It is clear to me that only the most clever and cool people hang out here.  I'm proud to now be one of them.

**May I humbly suggest a Yelp event at this establishment?

I spent a wonderful overcast afternoon drinking cocktails at Floyd with my buddy Clauds, being served by the lovely bartendress Gaby.  Excellent (and cheapie) Stoli O & Soda's.

This bar has inspired me to build an indoor bocce court in my basement.  I love love love love bocce, and while I could not take a turn on my visit because of league play, I will be back to play again sometime.

Good beers, decent prices, professional staff.

Bocce ball!

The place feels good. Warm but cool.

Floyd is a cool bar! Great staff, cheap drinks, lots of couches, a number of tables, and...bocce ball!

I can't see myself venturing into Brooklyn just for this place though, unless I had a specific reason to do so, for instance, oh, say, maybe there were something like a Yelp Elite event being held here as a hypothetical example...

All in all, it's a great place, I had a great time, I'd go again! Hypothetically.

For that bocce ball near the water move

Oh floyd if you only caught me in my early days on yelp.  Those were the days of overall naivet'e writing bland reviews for your sister bar union hall.  Sorry floyd but now I have grown a little bit and seen much better bars...maybe not in brooklyn, but around, and I have seen enough to know that this bar is just where it isn't (and neither is union hall for that matter).

Where to begin, let's start with the name, Floyd...this is brooklyn floyd, where we can all be ourselves and use more than a one syllable one word name for an establishment...if you want a posh name then see you in the meatpacking....not atlantic avenue where you are more likely to get shot then get a shot.

onto the bar...upon traipsing into this establishment you will see the bar on the left (of course), some old couches to your right, and a bocce court ahead of these on your top right.  There are two restrooms that are alright and the bar itself has a rustic feel, there is also a bocce court which helps a bit but it all just seems to never come to fruition.  I can see where floyd was trying to go with this place but instead of becoming a great bar with a lot of options it feels like more like when my roommate decided to change the living room around (about 20 minutes later it looked like shit...and stayed that way forever).

My advice: I would go to floyds if I ran out of beer in my fridge or wanted to see what the neighborhood had to offer, but there must be better bars than this off of atlantic, because if this is it...I just might move.  So get drunk, go here as a last resort, and hope some brooklyn slut will take you home, if not...well at least there isn't an expensive cab ride to take.

I like Floyd. Actually, I like it a lot. I'm, not a big fan of bocce ball seeing as im not a) old, b) italian, c) a douchebag, but I certainly appreciate the fact that if I were into bocce ball, I'd have a pretty suite bar to go to to play.

Floyd isn't a big bar, but it's roomy enough that on a Friday nite you can find an open seat and a surface to rest your weary glass. Having only been here twice  (Full disclosure: once being a Yelp Elite event) I cant really judge what sort of people the regulars at this bar are, but I can say this: If you're traveling down Atlantic in BoCoCa (i guess?) and you think to yourself "Me oh my, I could really go for a pint of Yuengling and a quick restup on a tacky couch" do yourself a favor and stop by Floyd.

Inventive crapocopia (will try next time), Maker's 8's, and a indoor bocce lane in the depth of Brooklyn.  Not bad for a dark, fun bar to chill in, and the random romance books in the bookshelf - we thought it was funny.

The bartender's knife comes in handy - no food here, though, so fair warning to bring your own!
