When I was in high school, my best friend's Dad would always send flowers to his wife from Jr Lou & T. I always told myself that one day I'd fall in love with someone who did the same for me! Jr Lou & T are well known for their plump roses which they sell in pretty vases or my favorite - in a basket. A tisket, a tasket, I got a rosey basket! The pink roses are especially gorgeous! Jr Lou & T delivers, which I recommend because as my old boss used to say, "If a woman doesn't receive flowers in front of everyone else. You may as well not have given them to her."
Jr Lou & T also sells a large array of orchids in pots as well as leis and balloons. Bad thing is that they don't really have a parking lot and if you park at the 7-11 next door they'll tow you.
Every time I go here, the associates greet me and are always willing to help me with what I am looking for.
During graduation season, I was looking to buy a simple orchid lei - the cheapest they got. I didn't see any in the fridges they had outside, but a sales clerk went to the very back of the store and fetched me one from there.
I always receive flowers from here and I am never disappointed with the quality of flowers I get. I got a dozen red roses yesterday and have yet to put them in water and they are still beautiful! (I'll put them in water in a bit. Promise!!!) And the pikake lei is still fresh looking even after wearing it all night. I love their flowers!
ME: (calling...ring, ring) HELLO? HELLO?
LADY: Jr Lou & T.
ME: I need help! Flowers!
LADY: Oh, ok, what do you need?
ME: You don't understand. My mother's birthday is tomorrow. I NEED FLOWERS.
LADY: Oh, ok. Sooo...
ME: Listen very carefully. She is a ticking time bomb of bitter resentment and painful disappointment. I need 50 roses.
LADY: 50? That's a lot of roses...usually, two dozen is the...
ME: SHE WILL EX-COMMUNICATE ME IF I BRING 24! LISTEN TO ME! IF WE GO UNDER 50, SHE WILL GO OFF, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?! STAY AT FIFTY FRIGGIN' ROSES!
LADY: Uh, ok. Are you on medic...
ME: Are you counting? HOW MUCH?!
LADY: That'll be, uh...
ME: OH, GAWD! JUST TAKE MY CREDIT CARD AND CHARGE WHATEVER IT TAKES! DO IT! OR I'M A DEAD WOMAN!
LADY: Ok, ok...delivery tomorrow, right?
ME: Yes...yes...good. Ok. That's good. Keep it at 50...and no one gets hurt.
Birthday's are a bitch and a half. My mom is like the transit bus in the movie Speed. And I'm Sandra Bullock...on Lithium and horse tranquilizers.
always reliable to find a last minute gift or lei here and the selection is usually the best, although you may not find a spacific type depending on whats blooming at that time of year. 15 years ago my "wedding planner" took a dump on me with 2 weeks to go till "W" day, one call and about a hour meeting at Jr Lous and I was set, the flowers are definetly the hardest part of a wedding plan and they made the choices and set up a no hassle deal. They even got a crew together and set up my wedding free (they always wanted to go to coconut island). Also their location at least for me makes them unbeatable,, 10 seconds off the H1 no matter which way your going. They also do very nice arrangements for hospital deliverys.
My mother instructed me to purchase a nice lei for my father for his birthday celebration.
She told me I could buy it from Wal-Mart. Apparently Wal-Mart sells leis.
Now, while I wouldn't go out of my way to shop at Wal-Mart, I'm not one of these anti-Wal-Mart types who thinks that Wal-Mart represents everything that is corporate and evil and wrong with America. I'm a pretty big believer in the free market actually, and if stores like Wal-Mart thrive in today's economy, so be it. Wal-Mart is a perfectly fine place to buy t-shirts and plastic storage containers and spatulas and laundry soap and dishwashing detergent, I suppose.
But, excuse me, did you say LEIS? Did you just suggest that I buy a LEI from Wal-Mart, for the man who made so many sacrifices for his kids?
NO! NO! FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND RIGHT AND HOLY IN THE WORLD, I REFUSE TO BUY A LEI FROM WAL-MART FOR MY DEAR OLD DAD!
So, I went to Flowers by Jr Lou & T, my flower shop of choice back when I attended the University of Hawaii, where I purchased many a lei to congratulate friends upon their graduations. They sell nice leis here, as well as flower arrangements. I picked out a lovingly handcrafted lei of flowers and foliage and kukui nuts.
My dear old dad deserves the best, not Wal-Mart.
Ok. so those carnations are STILL alive! I bought them New Year's Eve! And the bunch turned out to be really big actually. Cheers to Jr Lou and T. for bewitching their flowers to last forever!

This place has never disappointed me. They deliver the total package. Their flowers are really great and and fresh. And their presentation (the wrapping and the bow) is really beautiful too. I wish I had an interesting story but here's as close as I can come. I used to go to school about half a mile from here and when I when I needed flowers I used to walk here before homeroom. Yay for Jr Lou's.
Technically, street parking but you could park at the 7-11 next door and run over. If you feel bad pick yourself up a slurpee or a spam musubi while you're at it. You deserve love too right?
