"I've always wanted poppies at my wedding," I told the teenage girl behind Flowerama's counter. With flower smarts beyond her years, she let me know that while it was possible to have poppies at a September wedding, the blooms weren't in season then and the cost would be just shy of astronomical. She then suggested gerbera daisies... big, poppy-colored flowers boasting the same "feel" as poppies but for a fraction of the price. Sweet. I put in my order: huge orange gerbera daisies interspersed with baby white daisies and sprays of dried wheat for the bridal party, and miniature orange gerberas for the men's boutenierres (I have no idea how to spell that word).

My wedding was on September 3, 2005. Does that date ring a bell? No? Let me jog your memory with two little words:

    Hurricane. Katrina.

Those miniature gerbera daisies? Yeah, they come from somewhere down south. A day or two before the wedding, I got a call from my Flower Girlie saying that-- while the large ones for the bouquets were ready to go-- the miniature ones weren't going to be available. Crap, crap, crap. Crap on a cracker.

"Come on in," the girl told me, "and we'll figure something out."

What we (actually SHE-- this girl was GOOD, despite being barely old enough to drive a car) ended up doing was using special floral spray paint to PAINT SOME WHITE DAISIES ORANGE.

Yup. And you know what? Nobody could tell the difference!

Five stars for awesome prices, ingenuity, competence, and imagination. Flowerama has Flower Power!!

I wanted a selection of flowers, cards and balloons for Valentine's Day, not to be attending a funeral of rotting, lifeless flowers.

I was in there for a good fifteen minutes and no one even said hello. Maybe they were too busy weeping over the dead flowers for sale. The parking lot was a God-awful mess, too. They didn't have to bury the asphalt along into the coffins.

King Soopers had better service and selection...Yes, King Soopers.
