Brookline, MA
Came here for lunch with a few co-workers and it was delicious. Not surprisingly, on a Friday afternoon there was a long line but it moved fairly quickly. I ordered the lamb sandwich which comes with a tomato chutney and goat cheese and it was fantastic. It was a great combination of flavors and the meat was perfectly tender.
I didn't try any of the pastries but they all looked great.
Can't wait to come back! -

Went with the family on mothers day for lunch.
I got roasted lamb, sandwich was good, tomato chutney was interesting, pretty sweet, not that spicey. Others got Roast Beef (a bit bland), Grilled Chicken, and Roasted Chicken. Don't remember the difference but the one in the panini press with brie and arugala was awesome.
We split the infamous sticky bun, really good, I'm not a huge sweet guy so it was good to share amongst family, but a must get.
For quality and location prices are fair. Service was really slow considering that it wasnt too crowded. -

Happened upon Flour while walking around the neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon, ended up leaving with goodies and sandwich for husby.
He loved the roast beef sandwich especially the bread and a nice little bonus was the crispy onions. I got myself a blueberry muffin which was packed with blueberries, but the muffin itself was a little disappointing.
Everyone was super nice, helpful and friendly, they have outdoor seating which would be nice for lunch. -

Visit 1: Killer lemon ginger scone. Skim latte with extra shot was delicious. Yum.
Visit 2: Skim mocha and banana bread. Both were delicious. The mocha was fairly spectacular.
Pleasant enough service from multi-tattooed hipsters. Communal tables, discarded newspapers. They have free wi-fi, but you need to ask for the password. It was slow to connect but worked well once it did. I really like this place. -

Flour: So ridiculously good they tried to hide themselves on Farnsworth Street to give other cafes a fair chance. But I (along with most of Boston) found them and visited anyway. Now lesser cafes feel stupid and wonder why they didn't just offer unique, incredibly delicious foodstuffs in the first place. But it's too late. They keep calling and begging for another chance, crying about how they miss me and think about me when certain songs play on the radio. But I've moved on to better pastries and bakers who really know how to please me at Flour. I'm sorry...but it's over. Stop. I'll change my number...don't think I won't.

The breakfast sandwich with egg, bacon, and arugala on foccacia is the reason I will never be a size two no matter how much I run.
And I'm okay with that.
PRO TIP: If you are driving over (on your lunch break, perhaps?) bring a friend so one person can stay in the car-parking over there is a nightmare-all permit and the garages will bend you over. -

The best hot chocolate ever to fill my mouth, coat mt taste buds and run through my digestive system.

As someone who has a degree in classic pastry arts, I was really excited to try Flour, given all the hype that it's gotten with this "harvard-grad-turned-pastry-chef" and all. I walked into the store on a super busy Thursday lunch time, expecting to just grab some cookies, a latte, and sit down with my kindle and do some reading. I was SO wrong! The line just to order was a solid 20 minutes, and after debating between 293874 choices, I decided just to go with a sticky bun, sandwich, and latte.
They forgot about my latte until I asked about it 5 minutes later, didn't offer anything to make up for their pretty big mistake, and I just shrugged it off and sat down. My sticky bun was NOT impressive. I took one bite and decided against finishing the rest of it. I'm almost glad that I didn't purchase more items.
Sorry Flour. I guess all the high expectations that I had only made the fall that much higher. As your business expands, don't let your quality be compromised in order to fulfill the volume you're experiencing, because I do NOT want to see people paying good money for bad sticky buns... -

Very good. We came by on a Saturday morning and it was very crowded. Everything looked delicious and after reading fellow Yelpers reviews I was dying for a Sticky Bun. They were OUT. =(
So I had a croissant which was good, my aunt had the banana cake which was good....you get the point it was just good. I wasn't overly impressed. -

I only make it here for lunch on weekends since I don't work nearby. Quick, friendly and efficient service, which is exactly what you'd want from a cafe. Food is delicious but their baked goods steal the show for me - the cookies taste so good they MUST be bad for you. But that's ok, cuz I'll walk it off.
On that note, parking is hell-ish around here on the weekends with all the families angling to park near the Children's Museum. And the cafe itself has seating but those are also likely taken up by families and strollers. Which is fine by me, cuz I'd sit by the water on a nice day anyways.
And please DO NOT park in front of Flour where it has the tow zone signs. I considered it once to just grab a quick sandwich, since there was already a car parked there with its blinkers on. In 20 seconds (I literally timed it), a tow truck pulled up, slid the towing winch under its front wheels, lifted and drove off. Hands down the quickest tow I have ever seen. So I parked 4 blocks away and hoofed it. In my twisted math, that earns me an extra cookie. -

I love flour. For breakfast, the croissants are divine. For lunch, the portabello & mozarella melt is a revelation. It's insane how much I love that sandwich.
I work in the neighborhood now, so I fear for my waistline. My only critique is that sandwiches are pretty expensive, and I wish they had some more options for savory food. The menu is definitely skewed towards the sweet pastry side. But the pastries are delicious nonetheless. -

I came here a few times mainly for their famous sticky buns. It hasn't disappointed me yet! I recommend this pastry. I also had their chocolate banana bread pudding this was pretty good too.
I don't get to go to Flour as often as I like, but I made a trip down there (South Boston location) to pick up a few sandwiches for lunch.
I picked up the Grilled Roasted Chicken with Brie, Arugula, Peppers and Onions and the Grilled Portobello Melt with Pesto, Mozzerella and Tomatoes. Split the sandwiches with a friend, they were both delicious! Packed with flavors and not heavy.
I was suprised how even that location was packed on the weekends, with the construction going on outside. It was well worth the wait though. -

3 star for the savory sandwiches, 4 star for the sweets. Came here for brunch, tried the breakfast egg sandwich and roast chicken sandwich with brie and roasted peppers...both were pretty ordinary, even though their description sound quite interesting and creative. But the cheddar scallion scone was great, and the twice baked brioche was very, very good. Wish I had room for their famous sticky bun - next time I'm only getting the pastry and skip the sandwiches.

Somebody stop me.
Never let me into a bakery and expect me to stick to one thing. Funny enough, I was under the impression that Flour only sold sticky buns. My sister told me to go to the front to check if they had anymore left and my eyes popped when I saw all the baked goods. I came back with this report:
I'll have a sticky bun, hazelnut chocolate chip cookie, a coconut macaroon, and a jelly filled doughnut. What are you getting?
Somebody stop me. I was even tempted to get the apple cake.
Flour Bakery + Cafe is a loftlike cafe of goodness. It's definitely family friendly judging from the swarms of families with babies and toddlers that filled up the tables. This is the type of place where families meet up for lunch dates. Flour is not the type of bakery or cafe you go to for a quiet cuppa joe or to read the paper. I recommend just taking things to go.
There is just too much to consume from the loaves of bread and creme brulee to double chocolate chip cookies and portobello mushroom sandwiches.
My box of goodies survived a 4 1/2 hour bus ride back to NYC. I opened it up to have *just a taste*. Nom nom nom. Hazelnut chocolate chip cookie gone. Macaroon half gone. Sticky bun 3/4th gone. Jelly doughnut in tact. Somebody stop me. It's so good. The cookie is smooth with just little hazelnut granules. It's soft, rich with butter, and light on the chocolate side. It's the perfect cookie in my opinion. The macaroon is chewy and made of uniform shreds of coconut. It gives the French macarons a run for their money. Completely different, yes, but so much better. The sticky bun? Heavenly. The jelly doughnut? I want a reason to wake up early tomorrow morning.
I should have got the apple cake. Tomorrow by this time, there will be nothing left in my box. Not even a crumb. No siree. -

The lamb sandwich with goat cheese and tomato chutney is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Regrettably, after the first bite, it was gone in less than two minutes.
The cookies are great as well.

Flour is the best place in Fort Point for lunch. The food is delicious and inventive. The bakery items are so good it's dangerous. The homemade rasberry seltzer and dark roasted iced coffee are divine. I could come here every day, and I often do. All that said, there is room for improvement...
It's pretty pricey even for a small item like a side salad, which is just 1 c. of lettuce and dressing. Also, they need to mix up their menu more - the specials are frequently the same for weeks (chicken burger...still?)....and offer more salads. If you want a good salad you have to build your own at dumpy Metro next door or walk over the bridge to FiDi to Sebastian's, etc. Finally the lines are often out the door and twice my lunch has been taken by a guy named "Steve". They said Christine, not Steve buddy. But after waiting over 20 min. for your pre-made panini to warm on the press, I can understand the confusion. They need to have more than two panini presses for a place that primarily serves paninis! -

Whenever there is a world-ending catastrophe just waiting to happen, I come to Flour to stress eat. This means any anxiety stemming from the possibility of extinction via Climate Change, to that Mayan 2012 thing, to Nuclear Holocaust, to a Zombie Apocalypse affords me the luxury to splurge on some treats here.
Recently I tried the Eton Mess which was a delicious concoction of raspberries, dark chocolate and meringue. I felt like I was transported on one of those floating clouds that Lakitu rides in Super Mario to chuck things in your face, which by the way, was a total abuse in floating cloud privileges. But yes, the Eton Mess was pretty heavenly.
Joanne Chang, if you are reading this, which you shouldn't be because you should be wizarding away in some enchanted place creating another unearthly recipe, I would like to thank you personally for saving the world. -

SO CUTE!
I used to DREAM of having my own cute little cafe.. and in my dreams it looked like this. Freshly baked goods, smiles all around, and happy bakers in the back. Le sigh.
JUST COMING INTO THE STORE makes me feel all gushy inside :)
BUT today Jenny S. and I came on a MISSION: to try the brioche sticky buns that beat bobby flay (http://www.yelp.com/us...)
THE VERDICT: Good in its own way.. not super buttery and sweet like a cinnabon. Instead, the sticky bun was more bread-like as opposed to pastry-like, which didn't leave you feeling heavy and with a diagnosis of dia-beet-us.
The staff were BEYOND affable and I'm for sure coming back here to actually try one of their REAL breakfast offerings! -

So, I started working at the ICA in September, and this was the first place I came for lunch when I didn't bring my own lunch in. I don't know what else there is to write in addition to all of the great reviews already here on Yelp. This place is damn good.
I've had a BLT (no mayo), the Roast Beef sandwich (no mayo) - I usually hate raw roast beef, raw red meat anything, but this... this sandwich right here... is serioulsy one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten in my life. No exaggeration. Their sandwiches are perfect. Crispy bacon, fresh arugula, fresh delicious perfect bread, tasty everything...
I've had cookies from here, drinks, "oreos," brownies, and of course, their Brioche Buns covered in sugar (which are bread-like, fresh, soft, sugary, but not too sweet... so good) Honestly, they have all been amazing. Everything is fresh, delicious, and worth the price and worth the wait. Yes, you will wait, so be prepared for that if you only get a limited lunch break or have to walk here, and yes, I paid $30 for 2 sandwiches, 2 drinks, and 2 dessert treats... whatever. I don't eat here every day. More like once a month or so.
Again, I don't know what else to write, other than this:
For a 4-5 star well-known bakery and cafe, you go in expecting the best homebaked goods (specifically bread for the sandwiches and their buns... mmmmmm, dem buns...), and you leave feeling immensely satisfied. Flour hits the spot every time and their sandwiches are amazing. As good as a bakery and cafe can get. Seriously. -

Love everything about this place, after going here for breakfast 1-2 times a week for years. I finally made it back on my last business trip, it was great to be next to my old office (11 Farnsworth) again. In the last 3 years they have improved the already amazing breakfast sandwich. They changed the bread up, and slightly adjusted to Dijonaise. All around everything is superb here. From the coffee to the baked goods, I wish we had anything this good in Miami :)
I will be back soon! -

I'm going to be blunt in this review.
I went To flour bakery expecting a world class bakery. But all I experienced is a mediocre one. Don't get me wrong it's good, it just wasn't better then any chain bakery in NYC or it lags a little behind that.
The scones I like are a little bit hard and really dense. But the scones I had were a little denser then a muffin and not enough texture for me. That's ok I'm a hard one to please when it comes to scones and in the US it's hard to find the type of scones I like. But their taste wasn't anything special either. I've had 2 kinds they were sugary but nothing special.
Croissants had a interesting smell. It had a hint of alcohol smell, I thought maybe they but in beer as a hidden ingredient and then it smelled like strong yeast. I just thought it was interesting because I've never had croissant or bread from a bakery that had strong scent of something fermented. The crust was crusty and crispy outside and inside was moist. But there was something different about this croissant like it was made out of sour bread I wasn't a huge fan of.
The sandwich I got was grilled tofu sandwich. It wasn't getting anything special same panini style sandwich like I can get at PAX sandwich shop.
I was just so excited to be able to go to this place I'm just so disappointed... I would have liked to give it more stars but from what I've tasted I don't think scone is that much better then au Bon pain or starbucks. I think as bakeries go chains like le pain quotidienne is much better.Listed in: Boston

The line was long but rightfully so. I adored the Turkey-Cheddar on wholesome Wheat and the Crispy, savory, salty mess of a grilled tofu panini. I'd love to try the soups, sweets, quiche, and many other sandwiches they offer so I guess I'll just HAVE to go back.

Ahhh yes, the FAMOUS sticky buns. They are delicious, no doubt, but the fact of the matter is the South End location is far too small for the demand. Every time I've come here it is mass anxiety: cramped quarters while waiting in line, no available tables, and it even seems packed and chaotic behind the counter as well.
Sticky buns are delish; get one to go and save yourself the wait for a table. The sandwiches are lovely as well. I had a pesto, portabello, and tomato sandwich that was absolutely wonderful (albeit pricey). The sticky bun bread pudding was too mushy for my taste, I prefer something a bit more on the bready side than on the pudding side. -

BRIOCHE STICKY BUNS.. the winner of throwdown w/ bobby flay
these sticky buns reminded me of an asian bakery since the dough didn't have that traditional buttery/melty consistency BUT INSTEAD they were more bready/dry... they were still DELICIOUS though! i like how they aren't so heavy but i think i prefer the more traditional version!
the country roll was nice too!
Michael D. emailed the manager and asked if they'd give us a free TOUR of their back kitchen & they agreed! it's small back there but they definitely make it work to shell out all those delicious pastries and breads!! NOTHING GOES TO WASTE
i'd come back to try their savory breakfast dishes!Listed in: BREAKFAST.. never skip it!, Throwdown w/ Bobby Flay…

Sticky bun is yummy as is the coffee! I also tried the breakfast sandwich with bacon- was not a fan--- the egg was weird and the dijonnaise spread was too strong and overpowered the sandwich. My fried tried the banana bread pudding from the cold case--- it was weird.... wet and weird. I would try Flour again on my next visit to Boston- but would try some other yummies from their baked goods or a sandwich.

I initially went to the one on Washington about a year ago and am slightly ashamed of myself for not writing a review. I went pretty snack crazy on that trip and walked out with a sticky bun, the chocolate banana bread pudding, one of those scallion scones, the lolita cookie, a double chocolate chip cookie, and a lemon tart. I was with two other people, so we each had a nice snacking session. Everything was very good, the lolita being the standout favorite for me. The sticky bun was tasty but I wasn't bowled over like a lot of people on here. The scallion scone was a surprise standout in my opinion, it being the only savory baked good that we tried.
Finally the other day, I was able to return to Flour and went to the Farnsworth location and decided to exercise a little more restraint. I tried the tofu sandwich which was very tasty, if a little heavy on the olive tapenade (it should be noted that I'm not a huge fan of olives). My mom on the other hand made up for my restraint and ordered an apple spice snacking cake, a double chocolate chip cookie, an oatmeal raisin cookie, and a milk chocolate hazelnut cookie. Once again, all delicious but this time, I waited to get back to the hotel and warmed up the double chocolate chip in the microwave. The chocolate that they use here is out of this world and had all kinds of fruity notes in it that really came out when melted. It's too bad they don't have like a toasting oven for people to heat up their baked goods on site if so desired.
All in all, a great bakery with really solid sandwich, salad, and other cafe offerings. -

1. Roast chicken sandwich with avocado and jicama.
2. Raspberry Crumble Bar
3. Raspberry Seltzer
4. Hot cider
5. Sticky buns
In no particular order, these are my Flour staples.
Joanne Chang. You genius woman you. I work dangerously close to the Farnsworth location and have been to all the others. How can you not go into Flour when you see it? No matter the location, and even despite the often out-the-door-and-around-the-block lines, you will not be disappointed. A bit on the pricey side, Flour can put a solid dent in your wallet, so definitely don't go super hungry - you'll gladly forfeit your sweets quota after just one look and one sniff at the pretty awesome good behind the case. The staff is always super friendly, they're surprisingly fast, everything is prepped to perfection and comes out warm (or cold depending on what you ordered) and ready for devouring.

So yummy.
Got the raspberry seltzer and a portobello mushroom melt. They have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options, and the soups look so good. I definitely want to try those the next time I go. The only downside is that sometimes service is a little slow during lunch, I know they can't help it, but it makes me want to go somewhere else most days.
P.S. Try the sticky buns (AMAZE) -

A true test of a cafe's character is truly seen thrice-fold.
Meaning, I stood in line three separate times at Flour Bakery and Cafe on a bustlin' Saturday morning during the busy rush. EACH and every time, the service was impeccable.
1030am: 2 of us arrive ahead of the third. We cannot wait for coffee, we decide to caffeinate, wait, and order food later. A skim latte later, my life is feeling much more alert.
1050am: #3 arrives, we all stand in line to order food. I'm fond of the vegetarian quiche option with arugula, tomatoes, and other various vegetation. Served hot. Very good! My pals opted for the chicken sandwich (also tempting) and the other a breakfast sandwich with a side of home fries (CLEAR WINNER). We eat swiftly outside accompanied by various strollers and friendly dogs.
1130am: #3 takes off, #4 arrives to pick us up to run errands for #3 (this was my life all day!) She wants tea and something savory. I stand in line again, order the tea and OBVIOUSLY the breakfast sandwich to go. Brilliant, she loves it. The baked goods taunt me. All happy and sugary, they sit there as I order black coffee and give them dirty looks. Please, order some for me. Specifically a sticky bun or a pistachio crusted muffin. OMG.
So that is all. A beautiful counter-service cafe with tons of people lining up and helpful/friendly folks dishin' it out on the regular. Very efficient, wonderful cafe-type offerings. I tried 3x and could not even find the slightest disappointment at any turn. -

They are super fantastic and sensitive to food sensitivities. and fairly priced. The pastries are another story... i walk away! -
Review from Connie S.
Best sandwich I've had in recent memory, from any restaurant: Flour's Chicken Sandwich (with mashed avocado and jicama strips) on wheat. The moist chicken slices have been spice-rubbed, I think with tandoori masala, the bread is soft and fresh, and the avocado and jicama add some great texture. Seriously. so. good.
Also some more baked goods I can enthusiastically recommend:
- Double Chocolate Chip Cookie: as close to cake-like as a cookie can be-- ultra chewy and chocolatey
- Sour Cream Coffee Cake: moist but not too dense or too sweet, with what I think are walnut paste swirls
Bring your own tumbler and get the "Green" Coffee discount.
This place is always hoppin', and the wait can be long for a made-to-order item, but it's worth it and the staff (who all happen to be very friendly) are pretty efficient, so it's generally fine as long as you're not in a huge hurry.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Jenna L.
Before we left on our day trips, we decided to head to Flour Bakery + Cafe in Boston for some famous sticky buns that we saw on the Food Network's Throwdown with Bobby Flay. We came up emptyhanded, however, since they were out of sticky buns by the time we got there. We ended up just getting a couple coffees, a gigantic chocolate chip macaroon, and banana bread - still pretty good, but not sticky buns.
So our second attempt the next day, we went back to get our sticky buns we wanted so badly. This time we were successful :) We also got a few other little things, like this mini chocolate cream pie, and chocolate croissant. Oh man, the sticky bun was SO GOOD. It was definitely the best sticky bun I've ever had in my life. It was very very moist and the sticky sauce oozed into the bread, making it almost soggy but not.. and the nuts on top were the perfect compliment the rest of it, and gave it a little crunch, which I loved. It was so good, I can't even explain it to you. Warm and fresh too - they sell out almost as soon as they're ready. Crazy good. -

I thought this place would be overrated.
I was wrong.
My friend invited me here for lunch on Tuesday and the line was out the door, but the wait wasn't bad. Their service is quick, menu is huge (and labeled for food allergies: nut-free, dairy-free, vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free... so you don't need to wonder), and you're nicely distracted (tempted) with a whole line of pastries and cute products while waiting in line; so it goes by quickly.
One friend ordered a sandwich (not sure which one) and a fruit tart. The Bostonian friend loves the roast beef, and I got the chicken & avocado as a salad. They only have a balsamic vinaigrette dressing, which has egg (I asked why it wasn't vegan because I can't have most dairy), and I wasn't a huge fan of it... but I can't take a star off for that since I don't like balsamic vinaigrette anywhere. And the avocado spread was creamy enough to use as a dressing.
They also have plenty of areas to sit, water, silverware & to-go utensils... so whether you want to grab and go or sit and eat, you're pretty good to go.
If the weather's nice, you can also walk around the waterfront in South Boston by the ICA. It's pretty, and a less crowded than downtown. -

One of my favorite Places on earth! I know pathetic...but I have gone so far as to pick up their famous sticky buns and fly them back, with me, to my hometown for the holidays. Not to mention their homemade oreos and breads! I could eat their everyday and be perfectly content. Pick up the cookbook, it's worth it!
