I went with 2 stars because I went to Flores yesterday and I left disappointed.  I know, I know.. I went once so I'm a bit hasty and I might go back there one more time to search the racks but I literally found NOTHING.  I did find the dresses to be tacky regardless of how much I combed the racks.  The shoe selection did not look appealing and the owner was nice but kept roping myself and my roomie, Sara, into conversation... in Spanish.  Neither of us are fluent, to say the least... somewhat capable speakers, yes.

Back to the dresses- I found the sizes to be on the medium to large side, long lengths, heavy fabrics (doesnt bode well for summer tho I anticipated I'd find nice cotton dresses...no) and unlike NYMag's $25 dollar find (http://nymag.com/besto...) I found everything to be more than that.

Just generally dissatisfied and unsettled by the experience.

If it weren't for New York magazine's "Best of" list, I would have never known about this shop, even though it's mere blocks from my place. A local vintage dress mecca with reasonable prices. Sounds like heaven!

Despite its small size, Flores Antiques sure does pack quite a punch. There are racks and racks of dresses spanning several decades. At first glance the selection may seem too tacky, but once you start picking through 'em, you'll most likely find something you really like. In addition to the frocks, there are a good bunch of hats, belts, boots, shoes and handbags. All vintage, all one-of-a-kind.

The owner is super friendly and won't hesitate to cut you a deal if you buy a few things. He buys his merchandise from all over the States -- my friend asked about a dress that was apparently from Texas. He obviously puts a lot of thought into organizing a great variety and evidence of his keen eye can be seen in the diverse selection of apparel.

Of course I found out about this place from NYMag. What a pleasure! It's packed full of dresses though not dirt cheap but reasonable prices (mostly around $30+). Note: a lot of the items do not have price tags on them. Im guessing when you ask the owner how much something is, he makes up a price, so it pays to be nice :). I picked up this yellow ruffly nightgown which had a stain on it and the man kindly asked me to give it to him.  I continued looking and 5 minutes later he handed it back to me and it was barely there! He then said 10 bucks for the dress. Great selection, even some of the items I could have definitely pick up at goodwill for 5 dollars.

I accidentally wandered into this place when I was lost-as I oftentimes find myself-once inside I realized I was in dress heaven, maybe the second best thing next to man heaven (I'm still searching for that one).

From the outside it looks unassuming enough and even when you get in it can seem disheartening, but the owner manages to fit hundreds of dresses into the tiny store. Most of them are floral print and a vast majority are elastic-wasted and polyester. But he's a genius when it comes to picking out novel and interesting colors and patterns. I have one a long tank-dress I bought there that looks much like it's patterned with half-unraveled toilet paper rolls.

I try to go at least once a month and nearly every time I find at least four dresses I like. The owner constantly travels-he told me he had a hook-up in Florida0and comes back bearing bags and bags full of new dresses. The owner and sometimes his wife stand near the back watching telenovelas. Most dresses cost twenty bucks and every time I buy more than one he either gives me one for free or gives me one for half off.

The store has vintage jackets for the winter and various belts and purses but none of them really impress. It's all about the dresses here.

Great, constantly changing selection of vintage dresses...most of which I wouldn't be caught dead in.  But, luckily for me, I found a few cute dresses.  And the super cute man at the counter (aka the owner) gave me a discount just because.  My bank account was happy about that.

For a Manhattanite, this might seem like quite the trek for some shopping but it's worth at least one visit.  Or maybe two.  :)
