Just wanted to write up a quick review about the first of four Trilogy Release events planned for the month of February.
We (21 of us) had a marvelous time at the Trilogy Bottle tasting event! The food and the intimate lunch of lamb and fixings with the family members and staff was the best!
I know there are more events to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their flagship wine Trilogy are planned. I wish that I could attend them all but sadly we're leaving Napa on Monday for home in Honolulu...
If you will be attending them, I am jealous!
I wish the family and staff a very happy anniversary and all the best for their 25th!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Decided to stop by for our first wine tasting of the day after lunch next door at Dean & DeLuca. Liked the modern decor and the line of Apple products they had: iMacs, iPad, and MacBook Air. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman who started us on a tasting. Their regular tasting was $20, which included the following:
1. 2010 Oakville Sauvignon Blanc
2. 2010 Flora 1911 Sauvignon Blanc - like a nice French white wine
3. 2010 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay - my favorite out of all
4. 2009 Napa Valley Merlot - not a huge fan of Merlot but this one was drinkable, good everyday red wine
5. 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - good cab
6. 2008 Trilogy
Overall, a good experience and enjoyed the friendly staff, but left without a bottle. -

Third stop on the tour (and really nice that it is right next to Dean n Deluca) so its perfect to head there after to grab sandwiches for lunch.
Flora Springs was really pretty. The wine was good, but there was nothing that stood out to me. They had a special the weekend we were there for nurses. Two of the girls in our group were nurses and got to taste for free. Before we knew it we were all "nurses" for the day. Flora Springs' tasting room is a little more modern than most others in Napa and it was a nice change from the types of wineries that I typically frequent. Would definitely return. -

been here at least three times. Dont really do tastings.... we grab sandwiches or cheeses from next door. Order a few bottles of wine here, then sit out back. its a lovely retreat after tastings, to sit and relax. they are wonderul hosts. at least they are if you buy a few high end bottles. no troubles here, love them.

I've been here once. I actually only went because I checked into Dean and Delucas and saw that Flora Springs had a free tasting w/ yelp check in. I was happy I that I stopped by. The wines were interesting and the tasting room was beautiful.

My impression of the tasting room on highway 29 is that this place lures in mainly women based on the ambiance. Overall I was focused on wine tasting. We did the Signature Taste that comes with pours from 4 different varietals. The host provided a bonus pour of the Trilogy which is incredible Cabernet. We ended up buying a bottle of the Trilogy because it was that good! The plan is to drink the bottle of Trilogy at Brix with the perfect food & wine pairing.

(I went to their appointment-only winery on Zinfandel Lane for my tasting experience, not their open tasting room on Highway 29)
Jason Bullock is their tasting room manager and he conducted my tasting and tour. He was phenomenal and gave me quite frankly the best hospitality experience I've ever had in this valley! I took 6 pages of wine and winery notes and left feeling like I had just taken a class AND gotten to taste exceptional wines!
Their wines are lovely; specifically their Cab Franc and Holy Smoke! Definitely call ahead and make a reservation to come and see them if you are planning a trip to the valley. You'll leave them with an abundance of wine knowledge in addition to their family and winery history! -

We got to taste for free here because we were staying at Rancho Caymus Inn... they were having some holiday activities going on (this was in December). There were carolers and meat and cheese plates out to snack on while we wine tasted. I enjoyed the wines that we tasted and the crew working there were friendly and knowledgeable about the wines they were pouring. There is nothing worse than when you go to a winery and they just pour the tastes without explaining anything. This was quite the opposite here... good job guys.

Solid wines all around - whites, CA reds and Italian blends. Tasting room staff was friendly and knowledgable, and even gave us some bare root Cab stock to plant when we got home. First time I've seen iPads in use at the tasting bar so that you can post your reviews of their wines while you taste.
Their 07 Trilogy and 08 Poggio del Papa were both outstanding. -

Because it's very hard to find Italian influenced wines in Napa, we absolutely had to try this.
Skip the cheap options and go straight to the an Giovese, the Soliloquy, and the Trilogy.
Let them sit a few minutes before you drink them, they are on the lighter side, but very flavorful once you let them aerate. -

Again, discovered my stash of never-finished reviews. This is from October 2009. I would return to Flora Springs in a heartbeat, given the chance!
***********
As part of a LARGE group this past weekend, I had a great visit to Flora Springs. The staff was extremely knowledgable, interesting, and the wine flowed freely. We enjoyed a tour of the cave and lunch out on the patio, accompanied by their fantastic wines (of course). It was a perfect visit, IMO. Thanks, Kyle! -

What a pleasant surprise! In search of The Room, we accidentally ended up wandering around The Estate at Flora Springs when we were approached by Margaret the Hospitality Director. She invited us to join a tour/tasting at the winery although this is usually by reservation only. Moments later we were informed that a blogger was taking the tour and would like the interview to be done alone! Have no fear....the extremely hospitable Margaret sent us down to the actual tasting room for a complementary tasting and then back up to The Estate for a personal tour and of course more wine!
The Room has a cool clean modern feel brightened by the warm and inviting staff. At The Estate, Travis and Margaret provided great conversation, wine, pears picked right off the tree, and Flora Springs homemade apple butter to-go all on them! My personal favorite was the Trilogy...just delicious! I believe it is hand bottled right there on sight at The Estate. After all was said and done, we spent around 4 hours at Flora Springs out of our one day trip and it was well worth it. -

Flora Springs provides a relaxed yet modern tasting experience. I tasted at their location on 29. After reading other reviews I really want to taste and tour at their Estate. Thanks Ramon!
During my visit I tasted their:
2007 Soliloguy 100% Sauvignon Blanc
very aromatic with citrus, nice crispness with good acidity, found that it didn't transcend on the palate or finish though
2007 Chardonnay
no ML, lighter style with good fruit with pear and vanilla, soft structure with some creaminess due to barrel aging.
2006 Toad Hall Willow Pond Pinot Noir
Carneros fruit with cherry-cola, lavender, caramel, butterscotch, very velvety wine with luscious mouth feel, my favorite of the tasting.
2006 Merlot, Napa Valley
100% Merlot, organically farmed, bright aromatics, candied cherry, cranberry, some tannin structure with still soft, opens up well.
All the wines were served with popcorn, very tasty but hard to smell the wines. They have a lot of event space and seem like they have a lot of fun here. -
Review from Laura S.
A group of my friends and I stopped here while to rest up and enjoy some wine last weekend. We had just finished up at V. Sattui and (illegally) walked across the street over to Flora Springs to sit and enjoy a few bottles of wine.
The first thing that struck me was that the ambiance was just weird. I wasn't sure what they were trying to conjure up. It felt like a mish mash of odd and almost tacky decorations, like a faux animal print blanket thrown over a divan, plastic pink flamingos in a dirt patch, random chairs outside, etc. It almost reminded me of Vegas, complete with one of the young servers behind the counter looking like a bouncer, wearing all tight black clothing with a gold chain.
We were given the second floor above the main room to sit across 3 tables and enjoy some wine. The person who organized the trip bought a few bottles of their wine and so we got to try at least two per table. Our table had the San Giovese (red) and a white, that I can't remember...unfortunately both reminded most of us of two buck chuck. They were very dry and had no depth, a stark contrast to what we had at V. Sattui earlier.
After we were done, we headed out and went on with the rest of our day. To be honest, I see no reason in returning, though I will admit that maybe our experience of their wines weren't the best. -

**I don't drink alcohol, so this review is limited to service and ambiance.
Birthday bash for a friend in the form of wine tasting in Napa. Flora Springs was our first stop.
A lil' somethin' somethin':
*Henry attenuated to our group's needs with prompt service and good rapport
*Mostly vacant the time we were there, so we had dibs on any seating: we chose the tables upstairs (SWEET!)
*Fancy popcorn as snacks
And then...?
Relaxed environment. Clean. Good service. Wouldn't mind taking friends back here again. -

My boyfriend and I went to their 2008 Trilogy Wine Release Event on Saturday and we had blast! Upon our arrival their friendly staff welcomed us with a tasting of their Sauvignon Blanc paired up with fresh Oysters,,, we then proceed out to their patio of a beautiful view of their vineyards and was greeted with a tasting of their signature Trilogy wine. They also served an unlimited amount of delicious hors d'oeuvers also along with an unlimited amount of their Cab Franc which was my fav! They also had an assortment of cheese such as Bree & goat cheese,, omg I absolutely love cheese & was in cheese heaven! Lol! They paired up fabulous with the wine.
Flora Springs also provided us entertainment with Troupe that played Carnaval like music & dancers it was very festive,,, the weather couldn't have been better! And at the end of the day they were also offering complimentary coffee which was exactly what I needed to get my second wind (sobering up lol)!
Overall my Saturday was well spent at this wonderful event all thanks to their friendly and professional staff! I look forward to coming back next year for yearly Trilogy release party. -

I've been on both their estate tour and I've been to their tasting room on a couple of occasions. Both are lovely in very different ways and the wines are wonderful. I'm especially impressed by the lower price point wines offered at Flora springs. In previous years (and maybe this year as well?), they've had a $20 napa valley Cabernet which I'm certain would sell for $35 or more if they chose to prove it there.
As for the estate and the tasting room: as I mentioned, they're very different from one another and both worth a visit if you can. The estate is lovely (as is expected), but the most interesting thing to me was how old it is. It is apparently one of only a handful of napa "ghost wineries", meaning it was in production prior to prohibition, was shut down during prohibition, and is now in production again. A very cool tour. The tasting room, on the other hand, is VERY modern decor and I think it works well. I just feel comfortable in there and the popcorn is a fun touch. I'm excited to check out the roof lounge there too. Looks pretty cool from pictures! -

Visited the Winery during a stop for a b-day celebration. Thank god we did! The winery, the staff (particularly, Shania the blue haired girl), the cheese sampling and Brownies (thanks to WE tv) were amazing! This truly is one of m favorite stops. The caves and grounds are beautiful and quiet. I will definitely be returning! Thanks Shania (sorry if i spelled your name wrong:) )

Disclosure: This is a limited review b/c we only picnicked here & bought one bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.
Picnic area -- nice, if you can sit farther back toward the vineyards & hills, otherwise, kind of suburban back yard feel. Nice restrooms accessible from outside.
Service -- Great -- very nice gal at the bar helped us with our selection to go with our sandwiches.
Wine: 2009 Sauvignon Blanc -- nicely chilled, but not much on the nose or palate. On the citrus/mineral side of SBs -- not particularly green or grassy. Nice, just not overly thrilling. Didn't finish it, but we took it back to our room & it held well til the afternoon happy hour nosh. -

Let me begin by saying that I have been a "passive" Yelper for several years now, which is to say, in my years of travel, I have relied on Yelp to satiate my epicurean taste. From my visits in the UK and across numerous urban and metropolitan cities in the United States, reviews and ratings on Yelp have helped me decide on where to quench my thirst and pamper my palate. Yelpers have been spot on.
Today, I've decided to be an active Yelper and write a review about Flora Springs. Not simply for the delightful experience I've had with this winery for the many events and tastings I've attended, but also because, as an avid Yelp user, I want to ensure that proprietaries who pride themselves for their genuine hospitality are given their proper recognition, and not tarnished by inconsequential and paltry expressions of reviewers who are simply out to vent without tact and decorum.
Years ago, a good friend of mine introduced me to Flora Springs. Not only has the winery wowed me with their production of reds--- from the 2004 Holy Smoke Cabs to the many releases of Trilogy--- but also for the tastings and events that they have organized.
In the many occasions I've visited the winery, I've walked away with purchases of Holy Smoke and Out of Sight. But the one signature wine that continues to accumulate in my modest library is Trilogy. With the pleasures of cassis and berries wrapped in its complex character, Trilogy offers a beautiful sensation in your palate.
As for their hospitality, the staff at Flora Springs have been consistently warm and accommodating to their guests. While this winery has far-reaching spectators, in local circles and celebrity forums, they maintain the charms and allure of lovely and fetching boutique wineries.
To Margaret, John, Jason and the many delightful individuals that make up the Flora Springs family, thank you for your wonderful hospitality. Rest assured that my friends and colleagues in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Charlotte, Seattle, Miami, Toronto, London, Florence, Beijing and Hong Kong will support your winery through my accolades and sincere recommendation. -

One Word. AMAZING! The wine is really tasty and the estate is beautiful! We did not just do a typical tasting but Flora Springs went out of their way to make it a really special experience. More importantly, we received a great education about wine from people who are really passionate about their craft.
We tried their entire line but their Trilogy wine is the standard. A great wine.
Simply AMAZING. You must check it out! -

2006 Flora Springs - Poggio Del Papa
Interesting little wine from Flora Springs. This particular wine can only be found at 3 places. The winery, Napa Rose in Disneyland's Grand California Hotel and Vinatero Wine Shop in Whittier. No where else.
Sometimes I think that the word Super Tuscan was created to feed the American hunger for big beefy drinkable wines. I don't have a ton of experience with wines from Italy. Maybe It is because they have several thousand different Grapes. Yeah!! That's it! Usually when I think of Italian wines, I think of clean fruit aromas and beautiful tannins on the finish. Anyways this Super Tuscan which blends 75% Sangiovese, 16% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits flavors of black plums and cherries. A nice hint of oak! The finish is very very long! For the price of $34.99 per it is a decent deal.
Yeah the wine is big and beefy so I guess it feeds this Americans hunger.
Give it a Try if you Dare!
Cheers! -

This is a very cool tasting room next door to Dean and Deluca in St Helena. The pourers are great and I enjoyed the wine - in fact we enjoyed it enough to BUY TWO BOTTLES. Small picnic tables on back patio too.
HOWEVER, THE $15 TASTING FEE EACH WAS NOT WAIVED EVEN THOUGH WE BOUGHT WINE - GOODBYE $60+
No need to ever go back - way better deals and wines in Napa Valley. Lesson Learned. -

I came here via the Wine Country Tour Shuttle, and this winery was a nice place to end our Napa trip.
I found the space to be a bit stark but the employees were friendly and knowledgeable about their product.
We sampled a very pleasant merlot that we purchased to drink later. -
Review from Lori K.
Came here with passes for 2 free tastings and a complimentary half bottle from the Travelzoo Marriott deal, which definitely made Flora Springs worth a visit. I can't say I'm a fan of the strange exterior or the decor of the tasting room, but the wines were pretty good and our pourer was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Our tasting included 4 wines of our choice from the tasting list. As our pourer noted, the cab is known as one of the best for under $50 a bottle. Although not the best I've had, it was pretty good. I also had the Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, which were decent and the Sangiovese, which was good. Even though we were already getting free tastings, our pourer threw in an extra tasting of the 2006 Trilogy, which is a delicious blend of Cab, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. What's great about Flora Springs is that their wines are very reasonable for the quality. If you're passing by, Flora Springs is definitely worth a visit.Listed in: Napa Valley

This place blows goats. Of all the wineries I've been to this was the least fun, comfortable, and interesting. The place is apparently brand new, but the decor and styling is that of a midwestern kitchen circa 1996. Nice work, interior decorator. For a place that sells expensive wines, the architecture is terrible. The help is friendly and semi-knowledgeable, while happily pumping patrons full of creole-seasoned popcorn. Interesting pairing with wines.
It was crowded when I was there, full of loud and large tourists, probably getting dumped off here from their "wine country" tour bus. Thankfully Dean and Deluca is next door, the only saving grace.
The wines all are good, whatever. Trilogy is probably the best. -
Review from Paul L.
I used to be a fan of Flora Springs, but I have been having a hard time getting excited about their wines lately.
The nice thing about visiting their tasting room is that they are very friendly and very generous and will often pour you tastes of wines not on their tasting menu -- namely, their more expensive reserve wines. I think this is great, for novices especially, because it gives people the chance to taste wine that exceeds their usual price point.
I have always liked their Holy Smokes single-vineyard Cabernet the best, although to be honest, I do not think it's worth the $85 price tag. $65 maybe, but not $85. A much better value is their flagship wine Trilogy, which retails for $65, but which I feel is more of a $50 wine. If you can find the Trilogy for less than $50, then I would definitely consider that a must buy.
Specific wines aside, my rating for this winery is based upon a recent visit to their tasting room, during which I tasted through a line of decent but generally unexciting wines. The tasting was capped off by a pour of their most exclusive and most expensive wine, the Rutherford Hillside Reserve Cabernet. When I brought the glass to my nose, I immediately recognized it as CORKED. But when I told the guy in the tasting room that it was indeed corked, all he said was, "Yeah, the other people who tasted it didn't like it either." Then he put the bottle back in the holder to pour for other unsuspecting visitors.
What the hell, man? Don't they educate their people about corked wine? Don't they realize that off wines hurt their name? Never mind the fact the the wine retails for 100 bucks, if you are pouring corked wine and telling people this is your best stuff, then you deserve to have your reputation sullied.
In the end, I was disappointed with my experience at Flora Springs. It left me with a bad taste -- literally! -- in my mouth. -
Review from Mimi T.
I have always been a fan of Flora Springs wines so I make a point to stop by the winery during my visits to Napa.
I was surprised to see the renovations made to the tasting room--I didn't love it! The decor has a cheesy 80's lounge look and feel, and the exterior resembled a building in the Flingstone's cartoon.
The wine, however, is as good as ever--the Trilogy being one of my favorites. -

One of the first things I notice about wineries is the staff! They are unbelievably friendly and knowledgable!
Small winery, very hip, young crowd and have cool private rooms for groups! No appt but they mentioned if you have a large group to call in advance.
They have free stuff - red fortune cookies, popcorn, bubble gum in a tin case (I think this was free...)
I'm giving it 4 stars because I enjoy large wineries, extensive library, and I'm a more of a white vino wino! But I will definitely come back! -

Napa, CA
I used to work here and loved it (Full disclosure: after leaving Napa for 18 months, I returned to Flora Springs and now work at the winery.) Great atmosphere, wonderful people, good wines. Flora Springs is one of the most consistent producers in Napa Valley. The family owns vineyards from one end of the valley to the other, so they can source great fruit for their wines. They sell about 80 percent of their grapes to other producers, including Beringer, Mondavi, Markham, Groth and many more.
Grab some lunch at Dean & Deluca next door and bring it over to Flora Springs, where you can enjoy the private back patio with a glass of wine. Fantastic way to spend a couple hours in the valley. -

Great wines, especially the ones out of our price range. We were lucky enough to be there when a $100 bottle had just been opened, and it was delicious!! Great deal on complimentary tastings when you check in on Yelp, awesome! Friendly service, nice looking backyard, unfortunately it was pretty cold out when we were there. We'll have to return when the weather is nicer.

Oak Park, IL
Either the wine or the pourer usually makes or breaks my tasting experience and in this case - both were fantastic. The wine spoke for itself. We tasted all over and off the menu and it just kept getting better and better. $85 wine is usually a bit past my comfort zone but I'm thinking about getting a bottle for the holidays from Flora.
The pourer was hilarious. I wanted to stay for hours. Informative yet flirtatious, funny yet serious about wine. Perfect! My friend and I are going to split the wine club. He promised us some really fun parties and I look forward to the delicious reds.
Really easy to find (even though the addresses get all messed up in this area) - Just look for Dean and Deluca. It's right next door. There is also a really cute picnic area in back. -

This is right next to Dean and Deluca. So go grab a sandwich there and then come here and do some wine tasting.
The tasting fee is $15, but since we found out oh so great deal at the Marriot, this was one of the wineries that participated in the program. You get for tastings. There are only 5 wines to pick from. They serve yummy popcorn too. I couldn't help myself, but yet again, when I consume any type of alcohol, I get the munchies.
Since we came on a Sunday, they had a couple of cases that were on sale. Case of 12 bottles for $50 and another for $100. Since my goal was to buy some bottles that day, I thought that this would be a steal, but I'm not good in picking out a universal wine for everyone so I had the bf do the work. I do recommend trying the wines that are not on their tasting menu. It's actually better and that is what we ended up buying a case for $100. That's less than $10 a bottle! What a steal!
Try their Sangiovese & you might like it more than their Triology. -

A group of us enjoyed a private tasting at the winery with a tour of the caves and lunch in the tasting room. We found our host, Jason, to be personable and entertaining as well as he educated us on details of not only FS operations but about wine making in general.
This is a must visit. Alot at least 2 hours for this visit.
The wines were out of this world. Jason also generously shared tastes of a 1999 Trilogy and a 1989 Cab - incredibly interesting to understand and taste what age actually does to a wine. -

Our group of 40-50 had lunch here outside on the patio with the wonderful view of the vineyards. The outside of the winery didn't look like much, but there were a lot of barrels of wine inside and we had our wine tasting there. I really liked the aspect of tasting from the Hungarian and French oak barrels - it was a first for me. You can really taste the "woodiness" and I liked the experience, even though I didn't like the wine much (I'm a sparkling wine person).
After lunch, we walked around the vineyards and ate some grapes off the vines. I don't know if we are allowed to do that, but that was a first as well and I liked it. -

We had an exceptional day today at the winery. We were absolutely blown away by their knowledge of the industry and willingness to share it with us. Such a special memory for us.
We have never joined a wine club so the exceptional wine and Flora Springs dedication to preserving and stewardship of the environment along with their charisma and graciousness moved us.
We are excited to support Flora Springs as a wine club member after our visit to the winery. -

Came back for another drunkfest... eh, I mean wine tasting, at this lovely location. The last time we went they were undergoing construction for a new tasting room. The time and money they spent was mosdef worth it!
The new set-up is beautiful and modern without being cold. The have a nice outdoor patio right in the back of the tasting room, as well as an upstairs outdoor patio. I think they need some more outside décor still, but I am sure they are still in the process of doing so.
The wines are wonderful, as usual, but my fav new thing about the Flora Springs tasting room? The truffle seasoned popcorn they serve you while tasting... OMG - heaven in paper cone!!Listed in: All things California Wine…
