Review from Chris T.
San Francisco, CA
All right, perhaps I'm easily impressed. But, when you come up with something totally different using the same old limited ingredient list, I think it's pretty neat. The sushi at Flip's is good. Not zomg getontheferrynow! good, but better than you'd expect in an isolated resort community of 3,500 people. I suspect this has much to do with the Flip's boat you see in Avalon Harbor, i.e., fresh fish = nomnom good.
What should compel you to get on a ferry, book a helicopter, even charter a small plane are the monkey balls. I know, who would voluntarily eat something with a name like that? But, bear with me. Monkey balls are somewhat akin to stuffed mushrooms in Italian cuisine. But these mushroom caps are stuffed not with bread crumbs and cheese, but rather with minced raw tuna, then breaded in panko crumbs, deep fried, and served with tempura dipping sauce. They're juicy without being greasy, at once crisp and chewy, and oh-so flavorful. My mouth waters just thinking about them.
