Dan is the man!
I have known him for a very long time and we have worked on several projects together. He has unquestionably unique taste that is as intriguing as it is it is functional, and his passion runs deep in every project he does.
I would def recommend his services and his store. They always have something new going on over there! -

I cannot thank Dan enough for his help and patience as I locked down the dream couch.
Dan let me sit on it for ages, come by several times, and even take the swatches out to match an ottoman. His lowkey clever vibe makes shopping and buying stuff at FLIPP a treat. I'd recommend this spot to anyone. -

I needed a couch. As I wandered through Flipp, I discovered I needed a ton of succulents in cute pots, some cool antiques, vintage post cards and an old wheel? The only thing I ended up purchasing was a couch though. Dan was really helpful in figuring out color and size for my new place. Buying a couch from someone with interior design skills is great because they can help you with other components (like I needed a round coffee table? Now I see why!). My brand new couch had its first run-in with red wine and the wine wiped right off. Even though I'm an adult, I still need a child-proof aspect to expensive things and I'm so glad I paid for the quality of this couch. My friends love it too and will probably be paying Flipp a visit!

I absolutely love Flipp and the service provided by its owner, Dan. When I needed a new sofa Dan took time to see my nearby apartment and made recommendations after he'd assessed my space. 10 weeks later I had a custom-made, down filled sofa in the fabric I'd chosen. It looks great in my living room and is super comfortable. Dan communicated (and followed up) every step of the way as I was making a decision and awaiting the delivery; he provided extremely personalized service. I will definitely consult Dan and Flipp for further furniture purchases.

Dan helped us so much! We've been looking for a new couch for sooooo long, and finally worked with Dan to have the worn-out one we love replicated. It is perfect! He came over to help us decide on fabrics, etc, and was there every step of the way. He's patient and awesome and has great taste... I kind of want everything in the store when I go in. He even helped us with picking out wall paint colors! I'm so happy to have such a valuable resource as we continue to fix up our little hovel. I recommend Flipp and Dan to anyone.

The buyers at Flipp have impeccable taste and I always find myself discovering something new to add to my wish list (and I'm a dude).
Aside from great home decor, the people who work at Flipp are really friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely worth the visit if you're in Russian Hill. -

I just moved to a new apartment and was having a hard time finding a couch that would fit through my tiny, pre-war door. I stopped by Flipp after noticing on Yelp it was just down the street from home. Dan not only offered great advice for my small apartment situation, but was also extremely friendly. I ultimately still need to contemplate a couch, but Dan helped me see that my situation was far from impossible. I ended up finding a great, rare book in the middle of his shop that I couldn't live without. Definitely stop by Flipp if you're considering any kind of decorating make-over for your space - it's hard to walk into this shop and not fall in love with something.

Ever since wandering into Flipp a few months ago, I've returned to find more treasures, and have sent my friends to buy new home furnishings. I'm a pretty low-budget shopper... World Market and Pier 1 are my usual stomping grounds. But I've found much cooler stuff at Flipp for the same prices, if not less.
I just got of of his fantastic couches -- you can select your own fabric, and he delivers for free. Incredibly happy with it -- so much so that my friend is actually buying the same one. Great craftsmanship,soft but durable upholstery, clean design. Completely worth every penny.
Dan, the owner, is extremely friendly and consultative. He advises on purchases and does not push you to buy if you aren't sure or aren't ready. Just today, my friend was considering a couch but unsure about the dimensions and his door frame. Dan offered to personally drop by his house and assess the doorway to ensure the couch would fit.
Across the board, Dan has extremely reasonable prices. (I got a great little tea pot for $25 and a small planted palm tree for $28!). Hard to walk out of there without picking up an unusual and interesting new piece for your home.
LOVE this place. Flipp is my favorite home-furnishings store! -

Wonderful unique interior design store. One of the standout characteristics of Flipp? It's totally approachable -- in terms of price point and personality / friendliness of the owner, Dan.
Super fun and interesting items for your home - lots of cool lamps, throw pillows, wall art, and side tables. Dan seems to discount regularly and is always warm and helpful with customers. I get the feeling that this store is geared towards apartment living but stocks pieces that can transition into a nicer home or condo. I've found vintage items, modern clocks, and handmade finds. Custom pieces are also available and Flipp would be a great place to search for the smaller "finishing touches" that give your home personality and intrigue. Go check it out and grab brunch or lunch at La Boulange (across the street) before or after! -

Flipp is one of my favorite things about the neighborhood. Dan, the owner, is a greta, friendly guy who takes the time to get to know his customers and makes Flipp feel like the "Cheers" of cool, eclectic home decor stores. Flipp's inventory is ever-changing, and Dan and team do an amazing job finding unique, memorable pieces from around the world and pricing them fairly. I've purchased several items - both large and small - and have been thrilled with everything. One of my favorite pieces I own is a metal china cabinet he imported from India. It never fails to get a compliment from someone visiting my apartment, and Dan delivered it himself, as he's curious to understand the decor of clients' homes. Overall this place is a must-visit when in Russian Hill, and if you're anywhere in San Francisco and need a cool piece for your home or an interesting gift, check them out!

When my husband & I moved into & bought a place in SF, we were immediately overwhelmed by the task of personalizing our home. We needed some new furniture, paint, light fixtures, artwork etc and we didn't know where to begin. We happened into Flipp, met Dan the owner and had an instant connection. We bought a beautiful leather sofa at his shop and that's where the fun began. We had never hired an interior designer before--we thought it was way too pretentious. However, Dan's help and advice has been irreplaceable. He came to our house and met w/ us multiple times to get a feel for what was our taste. He guided us to websites and stores to look at items. He helped us create a cohesive, interesting home that reflects us. Dan is never pushy. He has great ideas, but knows how to stay within our budget. Dan helped us do a redesign of our fireplace--we worked together and ended up with just what we envisioned. He is a great person to bounce your own ideas off of and he'll give you an honest answer back. We look forward to working with him on our next project--getting our roof deck updated. If you want a low key, caring, interesting, honest, reasonably priced & creative guy to help you shape up your interior or exterior, I highly recommend Dan Kowalski. Oh, and stop by his store FLIPP--it's a must see!

Thank you fabulous Flipp...now, have a little bit of "MadMen" decor in my very own apartment!
My current favorite obsessions are "MadMen" and adding a touch of transitional decor to my apt &, thanks to Flipp, was able to do both!
I have been on the lookout for a cool new loveseat & Dan came to the rescue with the perfect find saving me hours (who am I kidding?...weeks) of furniture shopping!
There were so many cool options and Dan is a pro at helping to focus on what would work and making suggestions on home decor ideas...best experience & so easy!
Big bonus that you can buy piece & have it delivered that very same week.
Patience may be a virtue but it is NOT one of mine - much more of an immediate gratification kinda' gal!

I will be going back to flipp for some stellar accents (so many funky little tables, lamps & excited to see the new Trina Turk pillow collection)!

A neat store but did I miss a section? Don't go here looking for a couch - you couldn't fit a couch in this store. Appeared good for quirky expensive old stuff. But considering I was on a yelp fueled mission for actual furniture and not quirky expensive old stuff, I was kind of incredulous.

Newsflash: I am going to star in a Peter Bjorn & John video for "Young Folks" whilst dancing through this store in a raincoat and wellies, picking out stuff for my aparmtent, occasionally wearing vases and lampshades and boogying with the resident pup.

Very interesting home decor store in Russian Hill. It's off of Polk Street towards Van Ness, so unless you see the sign, you might miss it.
Selection is eclectic mix of styles but they all work together. The emphasis here is on expressing your individuality and mixing it up, in the small space of a city-dweller.
Colors and patterns draw your eye around the shop, and it's a pleasure to pick up a pillow or picture frame that begs for a spot in your home. Lovely outdoor garden, too.
In the ever-increasing sameness of the chain store shopping experience, it's a relief to know that we have stores like flipp to remind us that originality and imagination are not lost. -

Dan has finally opened and the wait was worth it.
Charming eclectic selection of home goods that you don't see everywhere, people from the neighborhood stopping by and enjoying the cute benches outside - warms up Green Street. And a great selection of pillows! Wonderful transformation of the space and Dan has a heart of gold. -

So it was one of those days where you and your girl/boy are walking around the neighborhood with no real plan, just looking around at random things. You turn the corner and see a shop you've never seen. You go in. You're in there for hours and it makes your day. You make a new friend even... That was my first experience with FLIPP.
This place is amazing. Very nice furniture, pillows, lamps and other interior items. Plus a dazzling assortment of random eclectic decorative things you can browse through forever. There's various jewelry, and these rings by this designer in Madrid made out of shiny leather and metal studs - just too cool. Then, as if that's not enough, there's Javier there helping Dan, playing music, telling epic stories and pulling great item after the other out of nowhere. So much fun!Listed in: Born to Shop

A coffee table made from vintage stamps, the lighting and oohhh the courtyard was a sanctuary..i want to move in...

A friend and I were wandering down Polk one sunny afternoon when, out of nowhere, a red sofa called out to us. It was sitting outside of FLIPP, a cool new furniture store.
We tried to be strong, but we both succumbed to the call of the sofa. Within seconds, we achieved sofa samadhi, melting into the soft, pliable cushions whose upholstery was smoother than butter. Ahhhhh... this is the life.

Flipp is a great furniture store on Green near Polk. Dan is the proprietor and he is very helpful and full of useful information. Dan is not shy with his computer - he will instantly find info for his shoppers and even send them elsewhere if need be so their needs are fulfilled.
I bought a leather loveseat at a very reasonable price. I had recently been shopping in the $2,000 to $5,000 area. Got mine from Flipp for well under my minimum budget. I did the dirty deed, and planned to have it delivered at a later date. Dan got back to me before you know it and informed me he had moved it off his showcase floor for safekeeping. But the satisfaction didn't end there. He has a great delivery fellow (Chris Rodriguez) who called because he was going to be about TEN MINUTES late. Now that is what I call considerate and prompt service. Chris and his helper got the loveseat up my stairs without a scratch to furniture nor bannisters, etc. What more can you ask for of an independent neighborhood furniture store!?!?!? -

My boyfriend fell in love with a wooden stag head wall hanging here. So, one day while he was distracted helping a friend move in the area I snuck back to buy it for him for Christmas. I wasn't able to take it with me that day and asked if I could come back later in the week to pick it up. The shop was going to be closed for the week for new inventory arrival but the owner said I could just let him know when I'd be by to get it. I live and work in the East Bay so I decided to get zip car and use my lunch break to head over to the shop to pick it up a few days later. I called Dan, the owner, to arrange a pick-up time and after discovering that I was coming into the city only for this he offered to meet me near my house since he needed to run an errand in the East Bay anyway! Talk about above and beyond customer service.

I have loved dropping by this store since I moved to Russian Hill/Pac Heights just over two years ago. Dan always keeps the stock on the floor fresh and, most importantly, interesting. I can always find something interesting here. This store is for style conscious people that really love making the most of small interiors (like my apartment) but can't afford to break the bank to do it. I bought a sectional sofa a few months ago and Dan was totally right about it being a perfect fit. I have come back and bought some really interesting pieces for the walls of my apartment too. My favourite is a cool wall decal and clock combination. I haven't been by for a while and imagine I will roll in there soon to see what's new.

FLIPP is a designer's dream. I love working with Dan. He has the best taste, a real eye for the eclectic and a wonderful demeanor. His shop is a feast for the senses and I ALWAYS find myself inspired and delighted when I am there. Sometimes, even when I don't have a client, I come in to see what wonderful thing he's found. I also love the value of FLIPP furniture. He has beautifully made and well-designed furnishings that don't cost a ton, and that's always in fashion. I hope that you have a chance to work with Dan, because his knowledge, know-how, attitude are sheer joy. Do yourself a favor, and shop here first if you are in the market for furnishings. All the charm of a quaint neighborhood shop with all the sophistication of an urban boutique. I bought a fabulous leather couch that friends and family continue to rave about and at a very reasonable price. I had such a great experience, I ordered the perfect rug to compliment it through Dan, Flipp's owner. With a great deal of patience, a keen eye, and a personal touch, Dan has offered numerous decorating ideas for my space. His suggestions have been right on the money every time. This store rocks...I live near by and stop in constantly to see the new stuff coming in. The key to the store is not only the items available but more importantly Dan. He's got a keen eye for great design and is always willing to help come up with new ideas for your space. Even if you don't need anythig in particular I reccomend stopping by Flipp just to see what he's got...i bet you'll be given some new ideas and be surprised if you dont' walk out without buying something.

This store is great. It's the only place in the city I found a cute couch that would actually fit in my small SF apartment. And if Dan (the man) doesn't have the color or size in his store he'll find it for you. They also have unique ottomans and lamps that aren't the standard pottery barn - type if you want your apartment to have some personality.
