It's too bad they are closing. I was hoping they would be able to stay open, but every time I drove by, it didn't look very busy.
They have excellent products (priced a bit high for the area). I tried their cupcakes and biscotti I think that people who live nearby are more used to the Asian bakeries and prices. There's so much competition in the neighborhood.

A Word to All Fleur de Lys Fans:
I came in this afternoon and learned that they are CLOSING! Noo! It's so sad!
Where am I going to get my beignets? The only other place I've found them is at DISNEYLAND.
Sunday, October 3rd is the last day they will be open.
I'm going to try to come in every day this week for my coffee and dessert. You all should do the same!!! -

A nice reprieve from the regular old monterey park crap. A bastion of real caffeinated libations in a sea if bobas and starbucks.
You feel like you could be in Santa Monica our old town. Beignets made to order on the weekends. Housemade marshmallows. Try the creme brulee. Super rich. -
Review from Lesley C.
I was so smitten by Fleur De Lys right from the outset. It caught my eye immediately soon after it opened because the building itself is so tiny, charming, and French and it stands out against the other Asian establishments in the area. When you walk in, the interior is equally as charming. It's as if you walked into a cottage. There is a display case full of baked goods and treats, a quaint menu board, a dining area and a cute outdoor seating area in the rear.
The menu is fairly small. The bakery serves coffee, baked goods, and a few sandwiches for lunch. I selected a handful of items from the counter and the display case to test their wares:
BANANA CHOCOLATE CREME BRULEE was hands down my favorite item of the day. It comes in a small 2' diameter metal tin and the server will brulee the top upon ordering. The banana flavor in the custard was so natural. I'm not positive where all the chocolate was but I think there may have been some shavings floating around. Everyone who snuck a taste of my creme brulee agreed this was like a good banana pudding.
I also picked up a FRUIT TART, which is one of my favorites. I didn't get to try it myself (...which guarantees a future visit =D) but my family attested that it was good.
The EARL GREY/CHAI SHORTBREAD cookies were rich, with an interesting earthiness from the teas.
PISTACHIO DIVINITY: I've never actually had anyone's divinity but it kind of looked like a meringue slash nougat to me. Supposedly it's made with sweetened egg whites. I didn't much care for the texture. It was sticky and the predominant taste was just sweet.
The OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIE was excellent as well. It was cakier than an average cookie but the flavors were spot on. It was moist and had a good proportion of dried fruit.
I am so looking forward to another trip to the area so that I can sample and stock up on other sweets.Listed in: Bakeries

A woman with a Yelp account under the name Nicosa M. contacted me yesterday about how rude my review was, telling me that I pissed her off, that I should not have called the cupcake dry as carpet, and that I am using Yelp to let off my aggression. She however never addressed the oddly sour taste of the frosting, or the meringues.
First off, I do not have any aggression against any type of person, businesses, places, animals, etc. Second, there's only so many ways to say how dry a cupcake was without being dry myself. I was using irreverent humor, not lewd, obscene, or hate speech. No way was I being defamatory either. However, I stood by my review. This person instead said I should use Yelp to write in a positive manner to help people. I believe I am helping others by warning them about what to get or what not to get. It does not mean my reviews have to be positive. If I had a bad experience, I'm entitled to write negative reviews.
-------
Update #2: The owner of this bakery contacted me privately. She was very cordial and apologized to me that I had a bad experience. She invited me to come visit the bakery and told me to ask for her. I'll be sure to do that once I find the time. :-)1 Previous Review: Show all »

I always pass by FDLP on the way back from work and just had to stop by to see what the heck it was! From the outside its super cute. Its located on a triangle when you look at the map! How cute is that? I admit, parking was a hassle, but it wasn't a big deal. Just park down the street and there is a lot of parking. Once you step in, you would of never thought you were in mpk. From the mint colored walls to the glass window that lets you see into the kitchen, i loveeeeee the whole concept! That glass window allows you to see the owner and her team at work making those delectable french goodies. Sometimes the pastries are gone early, so I would recommend going early in the day, but maybe she bakes up some more later in the day.
The owner is probably one of the nicest people you will meet. She's super sweet and down to earth and very passionate about her Patisserie. She's definitely one of those people who will always cheer you up (shes always smiling)! Her macaroons are made in house and they are freshly made, non of the powder stuff here! I really like her earl grey cookies. Pair that with some coffee or tea and you're good to go! Pricing is very very reasonable for the quality and portions that you get. They are also serving lunch now so expect to see me there! =) I saw my cool twin named yelper, Anita W. there too! (Next time i'll say hi =) hehe -

Real sorry to see this place go. It was a gem. Beautiful decor, delicious drinks, exquisite desserts, and thoughtful touches all made this place a rarity. (Especially in the barren wasteland of SGV that is devoid of all things aesthetically pleasing)
Too bad design and quality don't mean much these days. Good luck to the Fleur crew on their next endeavor! -

I drove by this place after I moved back into town and was immediately pulled into it. I dropped by and was greeted by a warm smile by the lady behind the counter. There was a nice selection of pastries to choose from. I had a red velvet cupcake and a canele. They were both great. I liked the ambiance and the whole vibe of the place. I feel like they could be even more successful though. I have a soft spot in my heart for these type of businesses and here is my advice:
1. Drop your plain coffee price, this will drive traffic into your store for people who are looking to sit down and have a drink... eventually they will purchase a pastry to go with their coffee.
2. Pastry/sweet of the month rotate different things in for a limited time, this makes people want to purchase the special sweet before it is gone.
3. Introduce the New Orleans style iced coffee, it is the next big coffee drink and it is amazingly delicious.
4. Add another display case with new pastries, add pies, cakes, tarts, danishes.
5. Add wi-fi by the hour, by purchase.
6. Offer customized take-away boxes with pastries and coffee.
7. Free samples prepared for long lines.
8. Waffles with a variety of syrups and sauce.
This place is a nice breath of fresh air in Monterey Park. It is totally different than anything in town and it gives you that small town neighborhood feel. A little friendlier and excited service would help really polish off that friendly neighborhood pastry/coffee place image. -
Review from Ken C.
Came back today to try the Ham and Gruyere cheese croissant. Also picked up some 25 cent meringues and a hazelnut filled pastry.
The cheese croissant was buttery and really flaky. If you eat it there, then they'll heat it for you. The cheese gave a very nice savory flavor. The black forest ham was sweet and slightly salty. This was perfect!
The 25 cent meringues are such a great deal. I got one of each color. Even though they are so simple, they have a lot of flavor. The white one, for instance, is a coconut meringue and it has coconut flakes on top - so good.
As for the hazelnut pastry....MAN! It was essentially a cream puff with hazelnut custard. It puts beard papa's to shame. I'm officially a fan of this place. I have to come back to try their freshly prepared beignets with raspberry sauce. They only make those on weekends!Listed in: Where I go for my sweet tooth!

A French Bakery in Asianville! Sweet!
After reading Nick H.'s notes to check this place out, i stopped by here with some friends who live in the area. A standalone building, this french bakery seems kind of out of place in a city filled with plazas of asian eateries. However, i totally love that i have the option of having dim sum nearby and then stopping by here for some meringue cookies or a black forest ham and gruyere croissant!
I was sad to see there was no macarons, so we settled for a strawberry meringue cookie (yummy for 25 cents!), palmier cookies (75 cents) and a red velvet cupcake (3.50). The cupcake was decent- the cake part was ok, the frosting ratio was perfect and i enjoyed the cream cheese frosting.
Thanks Nick for recommending this place!!i will probably come again to see if they have any macarons. Otherwise i'll settle for some more meringue cookies and maybe a sexy NYC chocolate bar! (see pic)
the woman who helped me (owner?) was a French woman! if not, she fooled me!
only drawbacks, no parking lot and they put my cupcake in a bag!!!Listed in: Raspberry Bibingka, Cupcake Fiend!, Sweet talk!

Two of my favorite yelpers already went here..so I had to go there.
Dear Nick H & Jochelle TD,
I finally went to this bakery. This place was super cute and the owner was friendly. I even saw a friend when I went there so I decided to have coffee there.
Coffee: served in a GIANT cup. 3 stars.
Lemonade: refreshing and not too sweet. 3 stars.
Coconut and strawberry meringue: yummylicious 3 stars. 25 cents each? ok..I am changing this to 4 stars. Economy is bad so this is a great deal.
Jalapeno Croissant: warm, nice and flaky. 3 stars.
Creme Brulee: creamy and yummy. 3 stars.
Parking was not easy here because of limited parking but I managed to park at the front of the bakery. The owner was nice enough to let me stay for a while.
Btw you both were wrong. The owner was Armenian who's fluent in French. 3.5 stars.
Hope to see you guys there sometimes because this place is yummylicious!

I went to Fleur De Lys the day before last, and it's an ok place (admittedly, I tend to judge patisseries by their Napoleons, which they don't make).I had a ham and Gruyere croissant with a double cappuccino, and my sister had a crème brulée with a steamed milk for her baby.
The croissant was served at room temperature, a fairly dark brown, rather than the more usual golden tone, and was also on the smaller side; however, the exterior was nice and crisp. I think that the dough might have been rolled too tightly for the croissant to expand properly and I don't how time and/or temperature played their part in color.
When I went to pick up my coffee, I saw a double espresso, and in their hurry to correct the error, I received something that more resembled a latté, had almost no foam, and wasn't as hot as I might have expected.
A torch was put to the crème brulée just before serving it, so the sugar was nicely crisped, but the custard was fairly loose, as if it hadn't set up properly.
Fleur De Lys is definitely pretty and clean. The outdoor garden and seating are lovely. There's only one parking space for the handicapped, but there is some street parking.
The price point is comparable to Starbucks, and I mention because about a third to half the menu is coffee drinks. For coffee, I'd choose somewhere else. For food, it's a tossup. For hanging out, it's a nice place. -

So I just got back from the grand opening and I finally came face to face with Pierre. His real name is Chris. Most embarrassing moment of my life when he found out I call him Pierre. :(
Anyway, I've tried a lot of the things tonight along with the 5 times I went after my last review.
Creme Brulee (plain, chocolate & hazelnut and raspberry) all of which were GREAT. However, I still think that mine is best - even my brother says so. Hehe. Sorry! :)
Red Velvet Cupcake - The cake itself was a little on the hard side for me - would've liked it more if it was fluffier, but it is still nonetheless very moist. And the frosting on it is PERFECT - light and fluffy and not too sweet.
Fruit Tart - The crust was thin and buttery. YUM.
Bacon and Jack Cheese Croissant - I don't know if I like this one or the Black Forest Ham & Gruyere more..but I like the fact that this one MIGHT have a little kick to it. In some bites, I felt a tickle in my tongue and others, not so much. I think they sprinkle little bits of jalapenos on top. YAY!
Chorizo and Queso Fresco - WHAT THE HFSKHFSCKB I literally just took a bite into it like RIGHT NOW and OMG it is soo good! Super so good. GET IT.
Goat Cheese & Herb Croissant - Goat cheese is nice and creamy and I like how they were careful with the amount of herbs to put in it so it didn't over power the cheese..because I LOVE CHEESE!
Belgian Chocolate Croissant - The croissant part is buttery and flaky like all the other croissants, but the chocolate - oh the chocolate is so good. Creamy and soft and a little bitter - just a bit. :) I prefer the one with no almonds, the nuts outshine the chocolate a little.
Umm um ok I can't think of everything I've tried, but this place is definitely worth a try. Go on, try it! (THAT, and I think this review is turning into a super obsessive rant..so I'll stop here.)
I see that there are some bad reviews, and I honestly don't have anything bad to say about this place. But I suppose they've worked out all the kinks since they are OFFICIALLY open now. I'm hoping to see more 5-star reviews.
My only complaint (okay maybe just ONE bad thing to say..) about this place is the fact that they close SO early (like 6pm!) - but I must keep in mind that this is a BAKERY and not a coffee shop.
OH! And according to the former mayor of Monterey Park, parking lot coming soon! They're planning on shutting down the street behind it to make parking. Cool! :)
That's all!

Red, Cheese, and Velvet!
Yup, just what I ordered ....Red Velvet Cheese Cake! I was just a passer-by when I saw this very French looking cafe. I had to stop if only for the reason of inticing Maggie C and Jollie D (Michelle aka Jochelle) with a new found bakery. New?
Dear Maggie C and Jochelle (Jolie D-Michelle):
First Trip- Red Velvet Cheese Cake- 3 Stars
Yup, still new in my book. This place has only been open since October. I tried the Red Velvet Cheese Cake. I had to. Never saw such a thing. The cheese cake was actually quite good but the red velvet cake at the bottom was a tad dry for my taste.
2nd Trip: Creme Brulee-Wow- 4 Stars!
So here is one of the cutest little bakeries I have seen lately. It is nicely decorated and everything is new. The inside tables are just perfect. There is also an outside patio area that is pretty sweet if you want to kick it on a nice day and look at weirdos driving by.
Iced Mocha with Belgian Chocolate-3.5 Stars
First sip I was shocked. Very different. Not bad..just different.
I did have a problem on the second day I visited with the Wifi. They could not fix it.
This place has many other items. I think the both of you should come and try it. Other items include:
1. An array of deliciously smelling coffees.
2. Macarons..YES MACARONS! They were out when I was there. But
the guy did say they made them.
3. They also had brownies and several other pastries and desserts.
Ladies, you may wish to take note of the parking. There is free 20 minute parking right on Atlantic. There is parking in the back and even a back door to enter the place. But beware! Just across is a shady looking motel. I saw some creepy guy staring at me. Creepy like from the horror movies.
So, anyways. I started the review with my prescious 5 dollar contribution for my red velvet cake and a second 5 Dollar contribution for the Creme Brulee and Mocha. I look forward to reading your inputs on the other items..especially the macarons.
Sincerely,
Nick H.
P.S. I believe in France they regulate the use of the word Patisserie. It has special requirements. I would be interested to see how many Pastisseries in the U.S. actually fit into this category correctly.Listed in: Free WiFi, French Me-2, Yelp Buddies Maggie, Nick, and…, Macarons

Review from Ivy W.
Does anyone else have trouble reading the glassy/metal menu of drinks?! Maybe I came in at the wrong time (for the sun to be shining into it), but staring at it for 5 minutes did not do the trick. I came here at the suggestion of my friend, and I thought to myself, "hey, it's closer than having to drive to Pasadena for my fix of red velvet cupcakes!" BIG. MISTAKE. Like someone before me has said, there was only one employee that functions as both cashier and barista. There was one customer before me, but I ended up having to wait 10 minutes to order. By that time, I was almost late for class, and I was in no mood for sweets. I ordered a cookie for ~$1 since they didn't have much of anything else to offer at the time. Worst of all, I couldn't find a single cupcake. DUN DUN DUN! No red velvet cupcake for me. To be honest, the cookie wasn't worth the wait or the cash.
I suppose I will give this place a try one more time before completely shunning it, but the lack of parking deters me from doing so. The interior of the place is quite homely, but there's only a few tables for patrons to sit to enjoy their sweets/drinks.
3 stars for the cookie. 3 stars for the decor. 1 star for parking. -

Fleur De Lys gets extra points for being an Euro bakery in the SGV. It gives the locals (ie. me) a different scene to pass some time and put on a few pounds. The quaint decor lends itself to idle chatter over some baked goods and latte.
The pastries aren't bad but there's definitely room for improvement. And I am confident that they will improve since the owners are very receptive to suggestions. Big plus to bruleeing the creme brulee when you order. I hate places that do it ahead of time only to have the crunchy sugar coating become a limp mess.
Note: They offer fresh beignets on the weekends. -

Monterey Park, CA
It was my first time here recommended by friend Anita. There is no other word to describe this place except that it was sooo cute and quaint! I couldn't believe that there was a bakery shop like this in Monterey Park, a city full of Asian cuisines. Anyway, I immediately got the red velvet cupcake cause I am a really big fan of red velvet cupcake. I also got a latte with this cinnamon scone. The latte was really nice and strong and the red velvet cupcake was reaaaally good. It was almost as good as Sprinkles! I loved the pastries here because it wasn't too sweet and heavy. Everything felt just right. The cinnamon scone tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch baked into a scone. I am definitely going to come back here and I recommend everyone to give it a try! Also, the service was great! The lady at the counter was super nice/friendly! :))
PS. Prices were really reasonable/good for the taste/service/freshness of everything. -

I'm sorry but..REALLY?! My girlfriend and I went to try this place out and we were thoroughly disappointed...=[
We ordered the coffee or tiramisu cheesecake(forgot we actually went to visit it last month and I am barely getting to reviewing this place, sowie). Raspberry cheesecake, Hazelnut latte, and soy latte.
Dude..for the lattes..when they say bowl or cup..its literally A BOWL. and honestly...its so frickn difficult to drink out of because one, its huge and two its hot. -___-'' my hazelnut latte was pretty good not the best but my gf said their soy latte was really really bland. I tasted it and it was okay..just not terrific.
The cheesecakes..oh where do i start? I MAKE CHEESECAKES WAY BETTER THAN THIS PLACE...sighs. The two cheesecakes we got tasted the same and the only slight different taste in flavor was the tiny bit of swirls on top. They honestly just tasted like baked cream cheese. They were thick and distasteful. I don't believe I've had a cheesecake that poorly made. =[ sadface
sighs..anywhos...I would not recommend this place, I will not be going back and..it is not worth the moolah. theeee end!
sorry I had to write a bad review but it was really bad =[ -

WARNING!!! THIS PLACE IS CLOSING!!! HURRY AND ENJOY BEFORE THEY CLOSE UP SHOP!
Overall great place to go, prices are on the higher end for pastries based on the size of the item, but the are baked fresh each day and taste better than most other pastry places. The bakers come in everyday at around 4am to bake the pastries and cakes for the day.
Service can be slow at times, but they are friendly. If you're really in a rush you probably shouldn't come in.
.
.
Recommend:
Coffee: Very tasty and very strong. Comes in 100% compostable cups if you order to go. You can get it iced as well. Large is 16oz.
Chocolate Croissants: Somewhat dense, but still buttery and flakey.
Fruit Tarts: Fruit is fresh and custard part is very light. Cup part is also tasty.
Fleur de Lys Chocolate Caramel Cake: If you like chocolate cake you will love this one. It taste just like it is described in the menu. One thing to watch out for is if you order the whole cake it tends to slide around inside the box very easily.
Coconut Macaroon: Great taste. However if you do not like coconut definitely avoid.
Chocolate Banana Creme Brulee: They finish the top right when you order any of the creme brulees. Of the two I tasted this is the best one. In fact I probably haven't had a better creme brulee that this one.
.
.
Get these if you've tried the above items:
Canele: If you like caneles then you will like the one here.
Beignet: This is basically fried dough with powdered sugar. Tastes exactly like a funnel cake and comes with raspberry sauce which I wasn't offered. Only found out about that last time I came here. Anyway if you like funnel cake you will like this.
Ham & Chese Gruyere: Pretty tasty, but nothing amazing. Make sure you get them to heat it up for you to ensure that the cheese is melted.
Kahlua Mocha Creme Brulee: Taste pretty good, but if the chocolate banana one is 2x better.
Chocolate Chip Cookie: Love chocolate chip cookies, but this one was pretty mild tasting and it was hard which isn't a bad thing, but I prefer my cookies chewy.
Cream Cheese Puff Pastry: Like all of their croissant type pastries, the croissant is buttery and flakey. The cream cheese filling was fairly light and had a great taste to it.
.
.
Do Not Recommend
Red Velvet Cake and Cupcakes: Pretty average tasting, not sure why so many people say they're the best, maybe red velvet blindness. Both were dry and somewhat dense. Frosting was excellent though.

Free WiFi available here.
$1 day old pastries available, which are still good.

I've been to Fleur de Lys for about a dozen times!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
The mocha latte is just perfect for me, not too sweet and bold enough for me to enjoy. However I felt that the vanilla latte was very sweet, addicting to drink and enjoy.
My favorite so far is the Black Forest Ham and Gruyere Croissant it is made perfect. From the extremely flaky and buttery goodness of that croissant to the delicate amount of ham and cheese inside. I had my croissant heated up before it was served to me and you can smell the aroma of that cheese coming through! So far I've had like 4 of these croissants, its too good to pass up every visit! This is def my favorite and my boyfriends favorite!
I also had the Bacon Jack Croissant. It's 2 strips of bacon with pepper jack cheese in a croissant similar to the Black Forest Ham and Gruyere style. Super buttery goodness to it as well. But on top of the croissant there are sprinkles of jalapenos! What a nice combo! I am a spicy fan so I loved how this croissant teased and tickled my taste buds!
Cinnamon buns/croissants are AMAZING! The out-of-the-batch freshness makes this a perfect pastry. The sugar glaze on top of the flaky top makes the pastry just perfect and delicious.
The Lemon Poppy Seed Scone was on the dry side compared to the usual style of their other pastries. But nonetheless delicious and great with the addition of my coffee. The scone was baked nicely with golden brown colored outside crusts and a warm soft breading inside. Best with coffee and rather filling!
The Marble Vanilla Bean Cheesecake was one of the extreme treats. I know why they made the portion so small! Each minute bite was an indulgence! The chocolate cake part of the cheesecake was a great compliment on making it a delicious treat.
I will recommend this bakery to anyone with a fine taste palette. This is the place to sit and slowly enjoy a fine pastry and coffee. All of my experiences here have been great, I've been here when I was the only customer to waiting in a line of 6 people. The service is a little slow at first, but they are a new business and getting their bearings.
I believe I had a brief chat with the owner of the bakery, not sure if she was the one who I spoke with, but I am positive she was. She noted that many of the pastries are made with French butter and nothing artificial. Also that the bakery has no microwaves at all and nothing is made out of a bucket. They are also trying out different pastries to see what customers buy and what seems to be a popular trend.
Although I recommend Fleur de Lys, I do not recommend it to those on a diet. By the way the food is prepared, full of indulgences and unrestricted use of butter.. it's not the place to look for a 'light' brunch.
I am a new regular at Fleur de Lys, I love this place.. its hard not to! -

Monterey Park, CA
Brand new French styled bakery, pretty rare in this part of the 626.
Seems like mainly dessert pastries along with coffee's and teas.
Their chocolate croissant is buttery and flaky just like a good one should be. The chocolate wasn't melted enough though. It was still in clumps when i bit into it. If the baking temperature was high enough the chocolate may have been spread more homogeneously throughout. Also their belgian brownie melts in your mouth. The flavor is intense, definitely due to the liqueur they use, it was delicious.
Friendly staff, an assortment of delicious pastries. I'd like to see what else they will be producing in the future. -

I live in East L.A. and have been on the hunt for a good coffee shop for years. I was so happy to discover this amazing French cafe. It's much needed in a neighborhood that rarely gets any love; or at least quality non-chain coffee.
I'm a proud coffee snob, and Fleur De Lys knows what up with the Parisian-style ambiance, quality French Roast coffee from local roasters LAMILL, and delicious homemade baked goods; we're talking some of the flakiest and yummiest croissants I've ever tasted.
I took my mom here for her birthday and she loved it. You can watch the pastry chefs get down in the kitchen and they have lovely indoor and outdoor seating. I encourage everyone who appreciates handcrafted pastries, cakes, and cupcakes, and a great cup of coffee to visit. I've been stopping by on my morning commute to work ever since. -

All I could think about was having a canele for the past month because of http://Chow.com. Now I have an idea.
I had a vanilla canele. I love the nice burnt caramel outside with its crusty mahogany exterior and its soft custard like interior. It was so good I'm taking 4 home. Plus some other goodies!
Chorizo croissant was good. Especially when it was warmed. I loved every buttery flaky bite. The chorizo was just good. I'm just used to a more spicier bite.
Customer service was nice. I actually ordered the ham and gruyere croissant, and the inside was chorizo. It's a good thing I like chorizo otherwise it would a scathing review. The person tending to the store front apologized and served me another croissant hoping that it would be the ham and gruyere, but it was another chorizo. So 2 chorizo croissants for the price of one for me. I'm fine with that!
Overall I wouldn't mind coming back here again if ever I'm in the area. I'd definitely return for 4 or 5 of the caneles. -

This place is way too cute! I only tried the Chocolate Fleur De Sel Caramel ganache cake (not sure what the official name is) but really enjoyed it. It's super chocolate-y and the caramel makes it special!
There's only about 6 tables inside and 2 tables out in their patio but it truly is a very cute place. I love how there's a window into the kitchen so you can see the pastry chefs at work!
The only two things that this place has working against it is:
1) the lack of parking (I saw only one parking spot & it was handicapped parking. You'll have to find street parking around this tiny island).
2) The prices are higher than other bakeries in the area. They're using more expensive ingredients I'm sure and employing people who probably had to go to school to learn how to bake.
Hopefully when people in the SGV are willing to splurge, they'll try non-sponge cake cakes and pastries without taro, red bean, pork sung, or tuna! : ) -

I'm actually in the cafe right now, using their wifi (yes, free wifi, and there's only one other patron here... I love it).
What a diamond in the rough! I can't stand the cafes in Monterey Park because they're usually super fobby and can't get a real and straightforward coffee right. Fleur de Lys is a truly wonderful find, hidden in the middle of the new chinatown. I came to MP to meet up with friends for dim sum and decided to stop at this cafe afterward to do some work.
I ordered a cafe au lait with soy. Very fresh and piping hot, and nice and strong, just how I like it. Not like the watered down crap at Starbucks. I love that they use ECOGRIP and recycled products. I also ordered a monkey bread. AMAZING. Nice and gooey, I inhaled most of it within 5 minutes of sitting down. I also tasted their caneles and there chocolate bread pudding. Caneles are hard to find--a truly French dessert. The ones they offer were absolutely amazing. I'm going to pick up a couple of them to-go when I head out. The bread pudding was also very good, and I'm not usually a big fan of bread pudding.
Overall, the cafe is really well decorated and in a really quaint location on the intersection of two little streets off of Atlantic Blvd. You can tell they put a lot of care and details into everything. There's a beautiful little display shelf in the back with French coffee table books stacked up and display cakes. There are 6 tables inside, each with a vase and a fresh white rose and rosemary garnishes. Their baked goods display case is sooo amazing. They have a big variety and some special selections, and of course, they have the pain au chocolat offering as well. Outside, there's also some seating in the back patio and by the front door.
The service is fantastic. The owners are French, which I love. And they were helpful with my pastry selections. ALSO, there's a big window by the cash register that sees into the back kitchen--which I LOVE. Transparency is good. It lets customers know that they are doing things right and keeping it clean. And speaking of clean, this might be the only place in MP with an A grade from the health department (although, I wouldn't trust anything above a B when going to Chinese restaurants--that's how you know they're good.)
I love this place. I wish it weren't in MP, but if you're ever there, you should stop in. Totally worth it. -

I've been waiting for this little spot to open up since they tore down the old salon that was there. It isn't completely ready to open as you can tell there are still some decorations missing and not everything is in place. Parking is non existent and you will have to do with street parking, which is also a little limited but not too difficult.
The sweets however were good. Not too much of a selection but i think its due to the owner figuring out her 'what works' menu. The place is cute and cafe-ish. They serve coffee, expresso drinks, and teas along with the baked goods.
I tried the red velvet cupcake. 2.95 for a regular sized cupcake. The frosting was nice creamy, sweet but not over the top sweet. The cake part had the typical red velvet flavor and moist but not soggy. It was probably up there with the top of the red velvet cakes i've had. it is expensive for a regular sized cupcake 3 bucks! either make them bigger or lower the price....
belgian brownie was a huge piece of chocolaty goodness. Totally rich with a deep deep dark chocolate flavor that melts in your mouth. totally decadent. but i think if i had more than the 3 bites it would be too much. i still have over half the thing in the kitchen.
the flourless chocolate cake was also deep chocolate flavor, crumbly but not too try. The middle was moist but just not as soft or as rich as the brownie. would have been really good if i had taken the time to warm it up and stick some vanilla bean ice cream with it.
overall, i will go back again, definitely. The owner admitted the menu changes daily still because they are still testing the perfect menu. I would love to go back and have some more goodness once all the kinks and perfections are worked out. Worth a try and nice to have a new bakery in town. yay! next time i'm hittin up the coffee menu. it was about $3 a drink, typical. -

Although my experience here at Fleir De Lys was good, I felt that they didn't have much to offer though. One exquisite thing they have here is that they brew LAMILL coffee and it was divine! Their coffee is super rich and flavorful and goes well with a cheesecake which had a super creamy texture. They also offer other pastries such as scones, cookies, croissants, slices of cake and even cupcakes! Expect to spend about $5-7.00 for pastry + coffee.
Service was pretty slow when I went there. There was only one person working as cashier and retrieving your order.
This cute little pastry/coffee shop is in a pretty awkward location in which it's on its own "island." There are probably two parking spaces in the front where the street is or one handicapped parking space near the restaurant. -

Craving Red Velvet Cupcakes lately! Since my sister can't make me her versions, I decided to stop by recently to try it here. Cute little bakery in Monterey Park! Limited parking. There are 30 minute parking in the front of the bakery and Handicap parking in the rear. I parked across the street.
The cake part was moist. That's a good thing but taste wise, it lacked something......It just wasn't hitting the spot. Not enough chocolate, not enough sugar, not enough butter, I couldn't figure it out. As for the frosting, its pretty good but my sister's home made cream cheese frosting is so much better. -

Three stars for the ham and Gruyere croissant. They warmed it for us and it had a nice cheesy flavor and a generous amount of ham. Not quite as flaky as Paris, but good.
Cute and clean seating area. -

I'm excited there's finally a non-asian bakery in Monterey Park! There's no parking lot so you have to find parking in the surrounding residential streets, but there's plenty of street parking. The interior is super cute! Makes me feel like I'm in Europe.
The pastries are pretty yummy. My favorite was their creme brulee. They burn the top layer of sugar right when you order it. The hard top layer was ready to be cracked with my eager spoon. The custard part was not too sweet and delicious. I also tried the bread pudding, berries cake, and raspberry cheesecake. All were delicious!
The only disappointment was their red velvet cupcake. I'm a huge fan of red velvet, but theirs was too dense and not moist enough. The frosting was too thick. Other than the red velvet, everything else is a must try. -

Came here with a friend today and it was a really cute place.
Interior was fancy and cute-- like a little doll house. Felt like I was in some European movie or something. Regardless, It felt like one of these bakery where I would come here when I'm 50 years old to catch up with an old friend.
I had the red velvet and it was good. It was HUGE though. My friend had the Creme Brulee? I forgot what's it called-- but it wasn't too sweet. Overall, the pastries are good. Prices are reasonable.
Note: The place is really small; therefore, you would need to park on the streets. Oh, and it closes on Monday(?) & $5 MINIMUM if you're going to use credit card, etc.
Five stars for being so unique and cute in the heart of Asian Town SGV. -

This small, quaint French bakery is unique and a breath of fresh air in Asian-centric Monterey Park. They serve soup, sandwiches, and other baked goods, perfect for a light weight meal after the gym.
UPDATE: The Strawberry Fruit Tart is light and airy!
The staff is super friendly and accommodating.
If you need full size cakes, arrive early or ideally call ahead.
If there's no street parking, parking can look a bit tricky.
Just park by Subway next to Mr. Baguettes and walk on over. -

I agree that the front cashier is not the most efficient but she is really nice! She offered me coffee or tea for the long wait. I can't say that the desserts were worth the wait but the ham and gruyere cheese croissant definitely was. I had it without it being heated and it was flaky and delicious! I cant imagine how it would taste warm! I think i would die in a glorious endorphin overload. The velvet cheesecake bite at first bite was nice. I tried to take another but it was already finished =(. Definitely not worth a whole 2 dollars!
Parking is inconvenient. I had to park at the LA Fitness parking lot- which doesn't encourage my activities at this Patisserie.
The decor is very cute and they tried their best to model after the french. Too bad some of the customers do too. They seems to be alot of superficial well to-do asian ladies who do nothing but drive Lexus SUVs and shout on their blackberries and that dont even tip the poor workers. This is sad because I , myself, do not drive a lexus nor own a blackberry but if I'm going to spend 9 bucks on a bitesize cheesecake, and a croissant- I'm sure i can spare that extra dollar in showing appreciation. -

Strange finding a bakery like this in Monterey Park. If you're not looking for it you can easily miss it. You have to find street parking, but that isn't too hard.
I got the kahlua coffee creme brulee. It wasn't too sweet, which is a big plus. Strong coffee flavor with a hint of kahlua.
It's a small shop and when my co-worker and I got there we had to wait because there was only one person working the counter. Points down there. Also, there isn't a very big selection... -

Ham and Gruyere cheese croissant sounded plain enough, but it was surprisingly delicious! The warm toasted croissant with the melted cheese and ham just melted in my mouth.
They recommended a French donut, but I didn't know what it was, so he was kind enough to make me one to try. Really fresh and fluffy out of the fryer. It was basically a fried donut hole dusted with confectioner's sugar.
Their cappuccino was alright. It was funny that it was served in a huge soup bowl instead of a cup though, so I had to hold the bowl with two hands when drinking it.
This small bakery/cafe had European decoration, and they also have outdoor seating. Nice/quite place to read or study in the afternoon, but they do close quite early. -

3.5 stars. I can't believe this is happening to me for the third time! I've learned my lesson and check my order before I left, but where the hell is my chocolate walnut cookie??
Quite frankly, I don't know if I paid for it this time 'cuz I can't seem to add up to the bill. I'm just in shock on how incredibly "smart" I am to check my order and still have an item missing. It must be a curse. For me to buy sth at Fleur de Lys and (have the cashier & myself to) forget it every time. Anyways...
Raspberry Cheesecake 3.95 (pretty good)
Chocolate Brownie 2.95? (not bad, rather good)
Sugar Cookie 0.95 (yay...i do like it)
Chai Latte 2.90/small (a lil bit on the light side, but in a good way 'cuz some chai latte are way too over powering)
Ohh, they'll be offering salad and sandwiches starting April 20, 2010...looking forward to it~2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers- came in this morning to try Fleur De Lys Patisserie's infamous Ham and Gruyere Cheese Croissant and the Coffee Borgia. Mmm -m-mmm! :)
Parking is somewhat limited, but the charming decor and delectable offerings made up for that. Plus, the polite and quietness of this place makes me feel like I'm in an entirely different city, it is Monterey Park's hidden gem. -

Darn it, thought i was going to be able to be the first reviewer, you guys beat me to it. Well anyway, Fleur De Lys Patisserie is a French-styled bakery in Monterey Park, which i think is a first for this city. It's parking is mostly street side and in it's parking lot it has 2 spaces for handicapped only. This place is pretty small, so there are only seats for two inside. I had the carrot cake cupcake which was the small cupcake and it was 3 dollars, but it was really good - sweetness was just in the range i was hoping it would be. My girlfriend had the cranberry orange scone, which she says would've been better warm. It was also dry crumbly, which either meant it was probably out for too long or wasn't made the same day. As another reviewer said, either make the cupcake larger or lower the price. I'd hope to see some revisions before it's grand opening. -
