My date and I had gone to a wedding. The reception was as overdone as the bridesmaids dresses. I was convinced the bride was a love child of Phyllis Diller and Liberace. I would have been able to survive easier if they had drinks anywhere near us but it was a dry wedding. The groom looked like a Bee-Gee brother. And not the good looking one. My date had to go since the brides family employs her. She doesn't get paid enough. Someone had put a lot of time into this. The eyeshadow was the same shade as the center pieces. Yellow. Need I say more?
Having crawled out of the place barely able to control my sense of humor or nausea, we decided since we were all dressed up we should go out for dinner. Another couple saw us make our emergency exit and asked if they could join us. I told them we'd be going to Flemings and there would be no disco-balls, melon balls or matzo balls and they practically fell at our feet in thanksgiving.
There are many restaurants where we live (South Bay) and many of the smaller ones are quite good. Since I am usually more concerned about atmosphere than I am the food, I'm pretty easy to please. My dates tend to be more concerned about the desire to get all dressed up and go out on the town than the food, so they are usually pretty easy to please also.
The best thing about Flemings is it usually meets the needs of who ever arrives no matter what part of the experience they require/desire.
They have the best steaks in the south bay. There is no comparison. The have one of the best happy hours (5-7pm, 7 days a week). Exceptional service without being the least bit stuffy. It's not like a great restaurant where everyone who works there knows they are the best and they act like you are lucky to be in their presence. I would rate their service as an A-.
My date had a special combination (sort of a turf and surf) which included salad fillet Mignon, lobster (small portion) and dessert. It was $50 and well worth it. I had the rib-eye which melted in my mouth. Seriously, I really didn't need a knife.
The other couple both ordered the smaller portion plates (rib-eye) which lists for $29 instead of $39 and they had plenty of food.
Flemings is well known for their wine selections, one of the most diverse and complete I know of. I would guess they had over 150 choices, Bottles range from $40 to $875 and average about $70. With drinks it would normally cost about $100/pp. We had two bottles of wine (we were drowning our sorrows for having lost 6 hours of our lives and were trying to make up for it). Our total with tip came to about $550 which at first glance might make you cringe but how many times have you gone out and paid less and really been disappointed?
I'm not a big fan of chain eateries but make this an exception. It was elegant, the service extraordinary and the food/wine perfectly prepared. When you need to splurge a little, or present a ring, or try out the new credit card, welcome to the right location.
Leave your platform shoes at home.
We had a celebratory dinner tonight at Flemings to cap-off a successful completion of another big project. A first time for me, it was a nice steakhouse with an excellent wait staff.
The Flemings potatoes side dish had a nice layer of cooked cheese atop it, but seemed like it needed a little more time in the oven to take more of the al-dente off the sliced potatoes, but that's a matter of preference. The creamed spinach tasted great with a nice level of savoriness from its seasoning...even for something I've never eaten before. The sauteed mushrooms with garlic was OK, but is always a must-have with steaks in my book. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium with a crusted hint of seasoning all around. The meat itself wasn't anything special flavor-wise other than being soft, but that's what I get for ordering a sissy cut of meat. If there's a next time, I'm going Ribeye all the way baby!
Finally, the one main low-point for me was the somewhat long wait we had for the food. For the amount of time we waited I expect 100% awesome food. Although I was still starving (post noshing on some rosemary bread) when the food finally showed up, my food-awesomeness meter only registered 60% overall.
So far Fleming's my favorite place for Happy Hr.
I was at the SD's Fleming's for happy hr and as soon as i'm back in LA i was craving for their prime burger and crab cake. So i called up a friend and we headed to THIS El Segundo Fleming's.
1. Prime Burger medium-rare = omg so good. Just as good as the one I had in SD.. so juicy, such generous portion, and oohhh bloood juice..mmmm...yuuummmmmm!
2. crab cake - so good that i didn't want to share, but i was nice, so i gave one of the crab cakes to my friend.
3. the shrimp - it was okay, drenched in oil - i didn't really like it.
4. the calamari - i thoguht this calmari was better than the one i had in SD..it wasnt as soggy.
yes, i want to go back for their happy hr again!
per Nick H.'s request i'm including the price; so each dish is abbout $6.. it's their HH promo that they've been having "5 for $6 till 7" meaning "5 cocktails, 5 wines by the glass and 5 appetizers. $6 each, served at the bar until 7 PM."
Five Stars!*
*Valid only on Sunday. Sundays is when they have the best steakhouse deal around - The Prime Rib Special! All other days would get four stars, but let me break the holy day down for you...
I went on Sunday because that's the only day they serve prime rib, which is my favorite. The prime rib special (which was not ridiculously expensive - like $34...I think - don't quote me on that) came with a huge salad, a nice slab of beef, a side (I ordered the fries, which came in a an cylinder that dwarfed our table - I'm not kidding, I took home an entire to go carton of french fries), and a dessert. It was amazing! Two full meals and a bottle of wine and we were at just about $100. For a very nice night out, it was untouchable. I even used my American Express points for a gift certificate. Could not have been happier/fatter.
Jon: Tanya took me here for my birthday and it was fantastic. Those of you who don't carry cash, stop by the nearby Chase or Kinecta CU ATM for some cash, you'll need it for the valet.
Walking into the place I was immediately hit in the face with the feeling of warm and cozy fine dining. We were almost immediately seated at our reserved table, which is something you'd expect, but many would be surprised with the behavior of some restaurants nowadays... Now my one and only issue with the place was where we were seated, which was a booth near the bar section. Nothing wrong with being near the bar, but the problem with their arrangement allowed for those who were seated a front row view of our table. Short of a glass (or acrylic) window, there was nothing between them and the back of our heads. It was awkward, we'd turn around to look at the score of the Lakers game, and BAM! strangers face peering back at us.
The service is second to NONE. Two or three times I needed a refill on my beverage and they had it out without me asking. The waiter checked up on us constantly and it looks like the manager visits every table to get feedback on the food.
To start us off, we had the parmesan and sweet tomato salad, which I practically inhaled- it was so good. Then I ordered their prime rib eye (no bone) medium-well, which was perfectly done. The ring of fat on the edge was perfectly seared, the meat was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Perfect. Tanya ordered their lamb chop with sun dried tomatoes. Also delicious but we noticed was slightly warm when served. Our guess is just bad timing; lamb chops must have been done well before my rib eye, so they had to wait. Ah well, it was all very good. They even paid special attention to how our beverages were served. Every time, my soda came out in a new chilled glass. Never thought a Coca Cola could be so cold yet so good.
Finally, since it was my birthday, they gave me something to "take home" with me, which was a small box of truffles. Yummo!
Definitely recommended.
The boyfriend and I went here because of my curiosity of how good this place was, dineLA deal, and I was craving MEAT. I had made reservations online and said we were celebrating an anniversary. The cool thing was that they knew that when they sat us at our table and congratulated us.
The only bad thing of the night was that we were ignored for nearly 15 minutes by waiters. We got our water and bread... but no waiter! The manager (I think) noticed and took care of us for a little bit and then explained to us that no one was assigned to our table.
Back to the food...
I tried the dineLA menu which featured:
Appetizer: Roma Tomato Trio & Fresh Mozzarella - Lemon balsamic vinaigrette -- Nice and light
Entree: Trio of Filet Mignons - Wellington, with mushrooms in puff pastry & madeira sauce; Oscar, topped with asparagus, lump crab & béarnaise sauce; Au Poivre, with peppercorn sauce & roasted peppers -- Loved the first two, but thought the last one was too peppery.
Dessert: Trio of crème brûlée - Vanilla Bean with raspberry sauce
Dark Chocolate with fudge sauce & white chocolate shavings
Fresh Banana with mango sauce -- didn't get to try it because I oped out for the Lava cake at the generosity of the manager. Which by the way was totally awesome! =D
My boyfriend had the fall prix fixe menu. He picked the chopped salad, Chicken Alsace with baked tomatoes with parmesan stuffing, and dark chocolate mousse cake.
For some reason I got the mousse cake. It was good, but I'm curious how the trio of crème brûlée is. We also got a box of truffles! Not sure if we were suppose to, but my guess is that it's because I said we were celebrating an anniversary.
In the end... I LOVE this place. I definitely would come back again to try something new. Can't wait!
I ordered a rib eye that simply Divine. The atmosphere was great and the drinks were quite stiff. The side orders were typical steak house fare. The prices though were a bit outlandish.
The service was very cordial. The setting was very nice and intimate in a sports bar cum classy steak joint kind of way but the food.... uhm it was like if Cheesecake Factory got into the steak game. We were kind of expecting something along the lines of Morton's or Ruth Chris' (small but refined cuts of meat) but sadly the portions were so huge and so for lack of a better word, gross, that it felt like we were eating at Outback Steakhouse. We had the Dine LA menu and the falll tasting menu so maybe we were missing out on the good stuff but if it was any richer than the food we tried I might be in the ER right now.
I guess if you're going to eat here be prepared to eat a lot and bring some Tums.
I would like to give this place three and a half stars. I really didn't 'Wow' me and the meat was rather delicious but by no means exceptional. I could take it or leave it - wouldn't make it a point to come back but would be open if someone suggested it.
It was my boyfriend's 30th birthday and he was feeling some steak. I had never been to a Flemings before but had heard some good things and was excited to go.
The atmosphere was nice and they played surprising music - Metallica and music from Radiohead's In Rainbows. I thought that was cool. I was surprised that many people were dressed very casually - like they just came from coaching their little league or something. Others were dressed very formally, most were dressed in the middle (nice top, jeans, dress shoes).
Our waiter did a good job. Not the best service I've ever experienced but he was very polite and gave an appropriate amount of attentiveness. I thought it was ingenious that he waited to check on our meal just as we were finishing to offer us the chocolate lava cake (which takes 15min to make). By the time we were done with the main course, the cake came out in just a few min. - hot, melty, chocholate amazingness. It was fantastic dessert! I did think that the service would have been more professional for the setting. When pouring the wine, it splashed all over the table because he poured so high from the glass. When they ground pepper over the wedge salad there were peppercorns were all over the place. I expected a little more sauve from the staff I guess - but they're just a touch above causual. I didn't tip him less for this, I just was expecting more.
The Pretty Sally cabernet we ordered was about $40 and tasted like two buck Chuck from Trader Joes. I like two buck Chuck on occassions but when I order a bottle of wine at this price, I expect it to be a pleasant treat. I prefered my usual $10 bottle of Gnarley Head from home.
I had lobster which was really very delicious! The boyfriends steak tasted good but I felt like the taste was from the juices and not really the meat itsself. When I order a steak, I expect the STEAK to be fantastic and the juices or way it is grilled to highlight the flavor of the meat. Even though the steak was good, I'm glad I went with lobster - I felt disappointed.
The sides were a waste of our money. I was excited about blue cheese mashed potatoes - especially after the wedge salad was SO good (warning - you really have to love blue cheese to enjoy the salad). When they came out though, by the looks of them, I wasn't sure I wanted to try it. They looked watery and there was barely any blue cheese. Thankfully, they didn't taste watery but they were only okay. Steve and I love mashed potatoes - but we didn't even finish these. The asparagus was no bueno. It was edible but I could have made better ones at home with just olive oil and garlic. They didn't trim the bottoms as short as they should - so the ends were stiff and hard. I love asparagus and I only ate a few of them - it was bland, really.
If the man and I go back, we've already decided to not order any sides. We'll go with the wedge salad, the meat, and a dessert.
It was way too expenisve for the quality of food we got. I have no problem having an occasional expensive meal like this but with that price I definitely expect to leave enthusiastic about the food and with a desire to return again. I feel indifferent about returning.
Great venue, great service, great food.
We celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary at Fleming's last evening.
The staff went out of their way to make sure every little detail was taken care of. They even presented us with a special little gift as we were leaving. Best Staff in the South Bay.
The rib eye is my favorite and one of the best I have had anywhere. Start with a wedge salad with the special house dressing, add some asparagus and finish with one of their great deserts.
I know they have many other great dishes, since other people I dine with order them, but their Rib Eye is so good, its the only dish I have ordered in over 20 visits.
The wine list is one of the best in south bay, with a large number of wines by the glass.
Always receive great service at their restaurants in Manhattan Beach, Palm Springs and La Jolla. Everyone a great venue.
You just can't miss.
Another try yielded slightly less outstanding results, nevertheless, Fleming's still delivered a fantastic meal as I enjoyed a tomato, mozzarella salad, trio of Fillet Mignon, as part of the Dine LA program.

I went here a few years ago for the first time for my friend's Bachelor party dinner. I had a couple of cocktails and ordered me up a nice piece of Rib eye!
Holy moly yikes!!!
Great food. Expensive but great food and drinks and service. I'm not sure what happened but i dished out A LOT of money....I mean I was a little drunk and I think someone took advantage of me...what I mean is someone from the group didn't pay their fare share and dumped the lump sum on me. I paid enough for 4 complete meals including drinks. Nothing I can do about it now.
Grabbed dinner here last Friday night. We went in for their August memorable meal that was $49/person. Part of the promotion was that they gave you a $25 gift card if you ordered that meal for at least 2 also. The gift card is only good for the month of Sept though. It's a good way for them to get you back in.
The August memorable meal was:
- SALAD: Butter Lettuce w/ Citrus Dressing, Gala Apples & Garden-Basil Chiffonade
- ENTRÉE: 1 1/2 Lbs Alaskan King Crab Legs Served w/ Drawn Butter
OR Filet Mignon & 3/4 lbs of Alaskan King Crab Legs
SIDE DISH:
Warm Yukon Gold Potato Salad OR Summer Squash
DESSERT:
Summer Berry Cobbler & Slow-Churned Vanilla Ice Cream
The salad was ok, but nothing I'd order again. A Wedge salad would have been better. My Filet was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The Crab was really tasty. Super fresh, sweet, and moist. They only had 1 Cobbler left, so we got a Cobbler and a Creme Brulee. So we scored on getting to try 2 desserts. The Cobbler was a lot better than the Banana Creme Brulee though.
Fleming's is a pretty solid place to grab dinner. I've also been to 4 of their wine pairing dinners and they were REALLY good. It's usually 5 courses and 5 glasses of wine for $90/person. If you get their monthly emails they also offer a lot of reasonably priced dining options.
The September Memorable Meal of the month is a Trio of Filet and Creme Brulee for $45/person. It also comes with salad and a side. http://www.flemingsste...
Fleming's also has a decent Happy Hour in their bar area. It's now 7 days a week from 5-7pm. They other 5 Apps, 5 Wines, & 5 Cocktails for $6/each. Their most recent add was their Prime Burger for $6 at Happy Hour.
Not the best steakhouse - but on par with all the quality chains - Morton's, Ruth Chris, palm, and others. Service was a bit lacking, I felt our waiters were too busy to check on out table. Overall the meats were the best part and the creme brulee. Salad was less memorable and the fillet Mignon is the signature cut.
This place is good stuff. I ordered the rib-eye steak bone in... umm umm umm. Cooked just right, juicy and flavorful. No steak sauce needed here. It's kinda pricy, but it's good if you want to treat yourself every once in a while. Bring a date here and you're sure to impress. Food is great! Best steak house for me!
1st class experience and really tasty steak.
The rib-eye I ordered was cooked beautifully and the steak was flavorful and excellent. My wife also loved her filet.
They asked if we were celebrating a special occasion when I made reservations and I mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary. When we arrived, everyone we met greeted us and congratulated us on our anniversary and they even gave us chocolates at the end with a single candle for a wish.
The staff also made sure the water was always filled and used their metal crumb scraper prodigiously to keep things tidy at our table.
Leaving the restaurant I was jealous of Jane Harman who has her office right next door.
EXCELLENT FOOD.
EXCELLENT WINE.
EXCELLENT DESSERTS.
EXCELLENT SERVICE.
Went there for dinner on the way to LAX.
Troy was kind enough to take our reservations last minute.
Fast valet, gracious host & very accommodating waiter to our tight flight schedule.
Everything we ordered came out perfectly cooked & perfectly timed.
BEST part is, they have a patio to enjoy the longer daylight...
AND they even brought water for my 3 lb. Yorkie baby...
AWESOME!!!
The best steak in the South Bay!
Not only do they have great steaks Flemings's also excellent sides, appetizers, wine, and deserts.
To top this off they almost always have top notch service.
Warning: Very exepensive, but it is worth it if you want a great steak.
So what is so exciting about shelling out big bucks for food that is mediocre at best?
I wasn't that impressed with the food here. We started out with the Sweet Chili Calamari which was pretty good but that's because I love calamari. The sweet chili did add a zing to the dish, but nothing spectactular.
For the main course, I had the lamb chop plate. It came with 3 lamb chops and again, it was good and better than what I've had before, although a tad on the small side. Does this really merit the $34.95 price tag though? No!
My friend had the chicken plate which was two chicken breasts which was average tasting, nothing special at all, no sauces, nothing. It was funny how the plate looked so comical with just the chicken on it but the $25.95 price tag was not funny at all.
The creamed spinach was decent but they gave you so little of it that it's really good for one person. Price tag for that - $10.
All in all, I wasn't that impressed with the dishes we had. Why is it that places think that if they decorate the restaurant with wood paneling, they can over charge for mediocre food?
Meh, better to save your extra money for retirement than spending it here. This place is not worth the hype. Stay away from this place, it's a rip off!
It's a Friday, so plans to meet friends for Happy Hour. Okay, I valeted the car and as we walked up to the front door, the hostess had open the door and with a smile, welcomed us. This already started them with five stars.
First time here and to only have drinks and appetizers? Sure, I really don't care to much about fancy dinners or being seated in the main dining room, unless to celebrate good fortune or a special event. Okay, the Lakers were playing this evening and you can't watch the game from the dining area, right?. You also can meet some real interesting people in the bar area.
First things first, I had to order my Chivas rocks. Awwww, good stuff, and its was a good pour. This evening we ordered everything on their $6 happy hour special list. This includes the Tenderloin Carpaccio, Sweet Chile Calamari, Seared Ahi Tuna, Crab Cakes and Cajun Shrimp. Let me tell you, may be I was really hungry, but everything tasted great. The bartenders were great, as were the servers. Even the manager walked up to introduce herself.
For what I could see, the dining room is nice, lots of wine in cabinets, lighting was good, and all the waiters and waitresses were always smiling. The decor, I love the dark wood they had through out the restaurant. A place to take that special friend, partner or spouse. Is it a little pricey? Sure, but you come here because its Flemings. I will return, and I will be at the bar again.
I rarely give 5 stars. It almost scares me that I'm giving five stars.
The service here was absolutely fabulous. I was amazed at the speed of the food, two employees (one server and one manager I believe) consistently checking up (not in that annoying way where you're in the middle of scarfing down food) on our drinks and dishes.
PROS:
Their Riesling was perfect with my array of dishes. I was served a cheese platter (excellent) along with some dried fruits. One of us was a vegetarian (yea, why go to a steak house?) so we were at a loss as to what to do. But no fear, when we told the manager, he smiled and gave us some options. We replied for them to make something up. And indeed they did! Served was a dish of seasoned vegetables so delicious and satisfying, I was impressed. Then of course, the steak. Medium - rare perfection, there is no complaining here. After all that, we are served a molten lava cake type of dish. I became very gluttonous that night; however it was worth it.
CONS: The parking is a bit funny. You must enter into a parking structure and then go around the building. You cannot enter though the hotel / business building --the clerks wont let you enter into the restaurant that way.
TIPS: Leave them. ;-) ciao.
I LOVE this flemings !! The service and food is SOOO good !! I love their Sunday only Prime rib dinner, it comes with an appetizer, side, prime rib( of course) and dessert ! Our waiter came by during dinner and asked if we would like to have the lava cake, since it takes a while to bake it. So sweet of him. Get the lava cake if you're getting dessert ! If you like chocolate, you can't go wrong with their lava cake.
Overall experience is so wonderful, love this place !
Went to another fabulous happy hour at Flemings tonight. The bar was packed at 6:00 so we sat on the patio. Initially the service was slow, but for no fault of the server. We spoke to the manager and he took care of everything. The wine, martinis, and food were all delicious. The new Pinot Noir they are serving for happy hour is super yummy! The passed slider samplers were wonderful! Another terrific evening!
(p.s. this review should really be 4.5 stars and would have been 5 stars if they had the servers to support the crowd their happy hours now draw)

For a big date night, Flemings is the first name that comes to mind. We go about 2 - 3 times a year… Read more »
This is the place! We began coming here when they first opened and no one really knew about them! Since then, they have blown up! The best chef partner there was named, Tom Capler. Unfortunately, he's moved on, but the food is still good! They now have a happy hour menu and some lower-priced specials, which are relatively new. We still love it here. The bone-in filet is to die for and the Flemings potatoes are manifique'! The best wine there was called Rombauer, but they've since taken it off their wine list, which is a complete & utter shame! Their chocolate lava cake is great & so is the cheesecake!
This place was really good but pricey, but so is any other good steakhouse, and this place is worth the price. I had the Dine LA menu the Roma tomato trio & fresh mozzarella with lemon balsamic vinaigrette was just okay. The entree was a trio of filet mignons which was cooked just right medium rare and the sauces and the way they were prepared we both savory and delicious. The dessert was a trio of creme brulee I loved them all. My boyfriend had the french onion soup and that was very tasty, it was cheesy and had just the right amount of onion flavor. The entree he had was the rib eye bone in medium rare, and this was perfectly cooked seared with just the right amount of crisp on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. The food was perfect but the only downside was the service. It seemed like our waiter was extremely busy to take care of us even though I can see him in the open kitchen just standing there. Other than that I would come back here again myself and I do recommend people to try this restaurant. Just one more thing I have to mention. I made a reservation online and after we claimed our reservation the next day I received a follow up email thanking us for eating there. I really appreciated this. I felt appreciated as a customer because never have I had a restaurant send me an email thanking me for the business.
Went here for appetizers before a concert. Always smells great in this place. The location is nice and close to the freeway. Have yet to have a steak here - someday. The carpaccio is really tasty and the crab cakes were great. The ahi was ok. Great place to have a glass of wine or a martini too. Food here blows away Morton's and I would go here before Ruth's Chris too.
Our group of 4 came here on a Saturday night this past weekend for a small birthday celebration. We arrived 30 minutes late, but we were still seated a few minutes upon arrival.
Low-lights (-) and high-lights (+):
3 Course Winter Prix Fixe $35.95/person (Yours truly)
+ New England Clam Chowder
- Filet Mignon Vigneron
+ Paired with Chelsea Goldschmidt Merlot ($9.50)
- Grilled asparagus / Creamed spinach
- Ice-cold milk and warm cookies
Memorable Meals for Two $99
- Filet mignon
+ Australian Lobster Tails
+ Chopped Wedge Salad
- Fleming's Potatoes
+ Sugar Snap Peas
- Chocolate Mousse with Hazelnut Bark
A friend and I both ordered the Winter Prix Fixe, except she opted for Cesar Salad , Cabernet braised New Zealand Lamb Shank (-), and Creamed Spinach (-).
Steaks = mediocre (on gourmet level)
Since I prefer my steak rare, I don't like how it comes out with cool center. My Filet Mignon Vigneron was plated with a Thanksgiving stuffing mess underneath it, which failed to complement the filet. However, the steak itself was still good to eat and still definitely what you would call gourmet. The regular filet mignon tasted a little better than the Vigneron, perhaps because it was more seasoned and lacked the mess underneath it. The lobster tails were a hair on the dry side; a little butter would have helped. I was never a fan of lamb, and Fleming's does not change my mind that night.
Side items = mostly fail
I hear rave reviews about the Fleming's Potatoes. My group was pleased with it, but all it was to me was an overcooked potato and cheese lasagna. I certainly wasn't a fan, but the rest of my group were "ooo"ing and "ahhh"ing. The creamed spinach was watered down. The grilled asparagus needed more seasoning. The only side item worth eating was the Sugar Snapped Peas, glazed with soy chili. It was a perfect plate of peas.
Dessert = FAIL
The "warm" cookies (2 chocolate squares, 1 chocolate chip, and 1 caramel) hardened within minutes. I would have been happier being served with a plate of Chips Ahoy. The Chocolate Mousse was served on a martini glass. I was disgusted upon looking at it b/c it looked like someone just pooped swirls into it, as a sick reenactment of 2 Girls 1 Cup. Scary, scary, SCARY!! (view pictures to know why)
Service = mediocre
The waitress was very polite and took her time with us. We felt welcomed and never felt rushed. Everything was good, until she became a shrinking violet towards the end. We had to ask multiple times for refills and extra bread. After she gave us our check, she never came back for it, even after 20 minutes. We had to flag a different waiter down to find her.
My highlights of the night:
+ Complimentary bread w/ sundried tomato pasted butter & champagne infused brie spread
+ Chopped Wedge Salad w/ grape tomatoes, red onions, and crumbled blue cheese
+ A delicious cocktail concoction called Romance ($9.50)
+ Sugar Snapped Peas w/ carrots and red onions and soy chili glazed over
Damage: $245 including tax and double-the-tax tip.
Everytime I visit Fleming's, they never fail. The service is top notch, with waiters very attentive to service (particularly Andy). What do I order here?? or shall I say what do I NOT order here? Rib-eye bone-in RARE. Pay attention to that idiot next to you who is ordering his steak well-done, and with the odacity to have A-1 steak sauce brought to the table...Does he look like he's actually enjoying his steak??? no...he's merely going through the motions, as he is not a true meat lover!!! Blasphemy I tell you!!!! Now, pan over to my table...Rib-eye bone in RARE with a glass of the red red wine...enough said!
I went to Fleming's last night for my hubby's birthday. He wanted "a good steak" and we've never been here...even though we're not really into "chain" restaurants, we decided to try this place.
The service was outstanding! Our server Alicia was great! We had the lobster tempura for an appetizer - yum! My daughter had the scallops, my hub had the main filet, and I had the "light portion" filet mignon that comes with the Fleming potatoes (which is basically au gratin potatoes). The filet mignon MELTED in my mouth, the best filet I've ever had!!!
I was a little too stuffed...I think next time I'll do without an appetizer (especially since they give you rosemary bread with sun dried tomato butter and champagne brie to start).
The only reason they aren't getting 5 stars from me is because they are a little too pricey and the parking is weird if you don't valet. Really I give them 4.5. :)
What a great place to just come out for a steak. The food is great, but I admit that these aren't the best steaks I've ever had in my life. They are praiseworthy though. The service is great, and the wait staff is always attentive without being overtly obtrusive. A lot of servers never seem to be able to find that balance.
My favorite thing however, isn't steak. It is the chocolate lava cake. Holy crap is that good. I've had many lava cakes and non compare to this one. I would give Flemings five stars for this cake alone.
Rock you like a hurricane.
In return for editing my friend's short film, he took me to this place...
He texted me one morning "hey, is flemings okay?", I was like "sure, sure, sounds great", and then woke up a few hours later and yelped it and was like, hell yeah!
few glasses of wine
calamari (amazing)
prime rib-eye
potatoes
mushrooms
lava cake thing and coffee
so good
I would definitely take my meat-eater girlfriend here... I mean, if i had a meat-eater girlfriend
what can i say. those who know me know that I love this place. Love their bone in fillet. I like it better than Ruth Cris' and Morton's. Used to come here so often while I was working there. No more. Probably best anyway since i've shared tables with both friends and foes there. What would happen if cher turns back time and kick some foe's behind.
Fleming's is always great. Even though it's a steakhouse, my favorite dish here is the scallops. The end.
Flemings has an addition to their menu called the "Prix Menu" for the financially challenged individual, so to speak. (I swear, I'm not being a prude, according to their own admission: due to the current state of the economy, they wanted to include a more "cost effective" menu.) Basically for a Meir $34 you are given a prearranged menu... which includes everything from salad to desert for one set price. Not bad.(Eh)
Happy Hour is just as it should be...easy to get a drink from the bar, not too many pretentious people and the drinks are nice and strong. I'm definitely on track to becoming a "Regular" at this place...Skipping the food and opting for more Martini's, of coarse!
Fleming's is a really great restaurant for steak lovers that want to dine in an elegant setting. It's a lot classier and contemporary than Ruth Chris or the Pacific Dining Car. They have great side dishes, excellent service, along with the wonderful sounds of clinking glasses and people enjoying themselves. Add in the nice table settings, good mood lighting, and you know you're in for a great dining experience.
I am one of those people that like to order what I like over and over. For me it's the prime cut juicy ribeye, potato, and wedge salad. Desert is always the shared chocolate lava cake. Everything is very good and you'll remember that life is good after eating here.
I get to go here when the girls at the El Segundo office want to eat a great steak for a special occasion. They sort of drag me over because sometimes I think it's too foo foo for me. But, once there I'm like a fish in water. Women that love a great steak are always cool for some reason. Oh did I mention that they pick up the tab for me! Thank you ladies!
The first time hubby and I went was to celebrate my birthday. It was fabulous! I ordered the sirloin, which was tasty -- but once I had a chance to taste hubby's bone-in rib eye, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! It was the juiciest, tastiest steak I'd ever had.The service was impeccable!!! It was obvious that not only did their staff take pride in the quality of their food, but their service as well.
We went again last night with another couple for the $99 Alaskan King Crab for Two special. You can get either all crab legs or crab legs and a little filet mignon (I forget how many ounces but I guess it was the recommended portion for healthy eating - cuz that piece of meat was small). Hubby and I had to satisfy the carnivore in each of us and got the combo. The crab legs were nice and meaty :] I think hubs and I got three each along with our little steak. Anyway, our friends don't eat red meat so they chowed down on crabs only and each got 5 or 6 crab legs. Our dinner was served with a side of potatoes and a side of summer squash. Both were good but not the best we've had. That said, there was plenty of food and we were stuffed. By the time the blueberry cobbler came, we could barely finish -- except for hubby, who LOVES dessert and hardly ever passes up an opportunity to indulge in sugar :] Anyway, not being a fan of the blueberry, I didn't make much effort to squeeze in any more, however, I did manage to make room for the cobbler part and the vanilla ice cream :]
All said, it was a tasty meal...but I will have to say that this time around we weren't so impressed with the service. Don't get me wrong, it was good -- quick with many hands to help -- it just wasn't impeccable. The servers were reaching over guests instead of going around to the other side to serve -- it just didn't have that certain je ne sais quoi, yanno? Of course, that won't prevent us from returning, but just a little disappointing to see after our first experience. (Light bulb moment: the first time we came, the waiter left us his business card. So I guess next time we come, we'll sit at his table...hope I can find his card) Oh, I must point out that I do agree with the other yelper who said it is a little noisy. Honestly, this place is too expensive for me -- at least for us to go on a regular basis. Yes, the steaks are out of this world -- but the prices are also out of my budget! :] But I think for the most part Flemings stands above many others, and it's evident in how packed this place was. Even in these recessional times, people still want good food :]
Rate my steakhouses on my steak alone. Rare ribeye with grilled onions. This was great. Right now, I put Flemings, Ruth Chris, and Houstons all in the "4.2-4.5" ratings area. These places seem to know how to serve a steak cooked correctly with subtle flavor and great service.
I always come back to Fleming's because of their outstanding service. You feel very welcomed at a five star restaurant. I love the fact that it's not pretentious at all. You're there to enjoy a great meal with friendly servers/managers.
I'm still suffering from the pain caused by a hyper-distended stomach, and that's a good thing. It's turgidity from excess eating, and a confirmation that I am a glutton. As one of innumerable restaurants participating in the DineLA Restaurant Week event, I liked what Fleming's was offering, so I went earlier this evening with a dear friend.
The menu is prix fixe for the event, so the menu is somewhat restricted, but offers enough selection for non-cow aficionados. I chose the Caesar Salad to start, then the Shrimp Scampi for the entree, and the White Chocolate Bread Pudding with Bourbon Anglaise (the sole choice for dessert). Also, I chose a potent and delicious cocktail called.....well, it had Belvedere, cranberry juice, rum (I think), sparkling wine, and peach schnapps. I cannot stress the adjective "potent" enough! I'm still woozy, and my lexicon is shot.
Anyhow, my salad was different in that it contained julienne scallions, which made it spicy, and quite singular for a Caesar. I liked it. The shrimps in the Scampi were gorgeous; plump, large, perfectly curled and cooked. I chose the Grilled Asparagus for the side, and they were enormous and juicy. Nice. Oh, the dessert. The white chocolate bread pudding with anglaise. This was when I wished for an additional stomach because I LOVED the bread pudding. I was never quite a fan of bread puddings, but now I am, and I will return just for this dish and the motor-skill-loss-inducing cocktails. I ate until nausea struck.
Our server, Grace, was very gracious and polite. Despite the heavy volume of guests, she remained patient, smiling, and easygoing (insert two thumbs up Borat-style).
I ordered the French Onion Soup, Main Filet Mignon, and shared sides of Fleming's Potatoes, Creamed Spinach, and the shoestring fries. The filet mignon was quite good, but not as great as I was expecting for the price and use of USDA prime beef. While I prefer Fleming's to Morton's, it didn't help that I've had better filet mignons at BLT Steak and Donovan's in La Jolla. Service was above par and seating on a busy night was prompt. The somewhat formal interior seems ideal for special occasions.
