Hermosa Beach, CA
This place is excellent. Most Indian Food is so damn expensive, but this is really reasonably priced and you know it's good because there will be Indian people eating there. Got the Lamb Korma & of course Chicken Tikka Masala, mix with Peshawari Naan (cheese naan). Delish.
Hadn't been in 2 years, glad that I made it back and had to pay the respect of a good review. You can also see a pic of Heath Ledger on the headshot wall, which means, if it was good enough for Heath, it should be more than good enough for you.
Get an Indian Beer as well. Flavorful! -

Los Angeles, CA
The food here is always solid. It's not the most amazing, but it serves it's purpose.
The atmosphere is a little strange and off, but it's a neighborhood indian joint, what do you expect!
Kinda on the expensive side, but it's the best joint in the hood.
FYI, the portions are huge.
Not a fan of the buffet for lunch. -

I love Indian food and this did not disappoint. I always order vegetarian and know the nuances pretty well. This place is fresh, well spiced and authentic. Not too greasy, and they offer brown rice.
I ordered this and its easily 2 meals (probably 3!):
1. Lentil Papadam (X1 $1.75)
2. Malai Kofta (X1 $11.95)
3. Pratha (X1 $3.95)
4. Brown Rice (X1 $4.95)
5. Samosa (X1 $4.00) -

Hell to the yes!
Crazy shaped building with sweet covered patio space. We stopped in for dinner before a show at the Troubador and I'm so happy we did. First off we checked in and unlocked a free order of Samosas! Perfect. The samosas are kind of small but they're tasty and they were free so I wasn't complaining. I asked for mint chutney and it was super duper.
They have brown rice! This thrills me... Only on LA can you get brown rice at an Indian restaurant! I got brown rice, the lamb boti korma, and regular naan. Everything was delicious. The sauce was to die for. vegetarians always seem to love Indian for the many veggie options and this place had some really interesting sounding veggie dishes including a veggie "lamb" curry.
Okay here's the kicker, this is why I will most certainly be back. The KULFI!!!!!!
If you've never had kulfi, it is an Indian ice cream. I've had some tasty versions over the years but this was by far the best . I ordered a scoop of pistachio. It was so creamy, so nutty, so delicious that I had to then order a scoop of the ginger which was heavenly with fresh ginger and creaminess and goodness... and RAINBOWS. An amazing end to a delicious meal. 5 stars for the kulfi, 4 for the food.Listed in: SUGAR RUSH!!!, Foodgasm

I'm not sure why others gave this place such a bad review, this place was great!
My coworker and I decided to have lunch here once we found out it was a $9.99 lunch special. Honestly, that is great for WeHo considering it is all you can eat.
We got there at 12:30pm, and sat down in the room where the entrance is. The decor is a bit different, but we were not there for the decor...we were there for the food.
We headed towards the back where the buffet was set up, and there was a lot to choose from.
My favorite was the chicken tika masala, so much so that I had two plates of it. There was tons of chicken, which is great, because I was going to the gym later that night, so the protein was perfect. Another great dish was the Tandori chicken. Awesome! They also gave us an order of naan bread, which was great when dipped in a green sauce they had in the buffet area.
This place was so great, we told our coworkers about it, and they have all gone as well, and had positive things to say.
Can't wait to go back! -

Los Angeles, CA
Im not sure why this place doesn't have a higher rating, because it is simply AWESOME !! The food was excellent- we ordered mirchi tikka masala, seekh kabab, naan and aloo tikki. No complaints about anything AT ALL !! The mirchi tikka masala especially was SO GOOD. It was like a spicy + fenugreek version of the usual tikka masala and I loved it. The service was good as well. I will definitely be going back to try more of their stuff.
PS: The ambience is nice. -

Downtown, Los Angeles, CA
I will start off by saying my wife and I LOVE indian food. That said this place is one of the best places to go near us. At times it can be a little drafty because of the outdoor area which is covered by a permanent structure as an extension of the main building which is rather small. However, the size makes this place very suitible for date night because is it quant and relatively quiet. I have tried almost everything on the menu and can't say anything negative about the cooking, it have been consistantly good for the past 3 or 4 years I have been going there. Long story short, if you like Indian food you cannot go wrong with this place.

Flavor of India is something of a tragedy. It's one of those places that does certain things pretty well, but other things so poorly that you just can't justify a return. I've been here a handful of times and had a number of different dishes, side dishes, etc. Their samosas are pretty tasty. I'll give them that. But it's not hard to screw up fried food. Fried food tastes good. Just ask the Colonel how he makes the big bucks.
The naan is the right balance of fluffy and crispy. Their sauces are also pretty good. They are flavorful and the texture is what it should be.
But the sauces cannot hide the dry chicken. These chickens must have been desert-raised because they don't have an ounce of moisture. The chickens clucked their way across the Mojave and found themselves at the doorstep of Flavor of India. They clucked their last dry clucks, hoping for just a sip of sweet, sweet water. Anything for some moisture. "Flavor of India cooks, we will gladly sacrifice ourselves for your sauces if you'd just lend us a bit of moisture," they'd cluck. "No," the cooks sternly declared, "no moisture for you." -

I will NEVER be a costumer here again! I'm person with a service-animal and in all my years of living in SoCal I have never met a more rude and mean staff.
We came to the place on a Sunday and it was completely empty (0 costumers) and the host was first going to show us our table until he saw that I had a Service dog (wearing a ADA Act Service west) He said "No dogs" and I answered that "this is not a dog it's SERVICE ANIMAL" and that the ADA Act is a Federal Law that gives me the right to bring my animal to all restaurants and public places.
I told him that it's illigal to stop a person from bringing his/her S A ANYWHERE!
Even though I explained to him that he is breaking a federal law by not letting the S A in, he still refused and told me and my girlfriend to leave or he would have us thrown out. H e then forced us to leave even though I begged him to look it up on the net.
I would never go back there again and if you are a person with a handicap or if you know someone that has one, then I hope you support
us with Service Animals and pick a Handicap friendly resturant next time. -

Made my night!!! ALWAYS the best Indian restaurant in LA I can guarantee. Moving from India and a foodie by nature. Even better than most Indian Restaurants in India. The shahi Paneer with nuts and raisins is addictive. My wife who eats meat absolutely loved the chicken tikka masala. We feel as if we were eating in Bombay at a high class restaurant. The carrot pudding here reminds me of my grand mother who made the best carrot pudding ever!!! Please don't miss this restaurant if you like And enjoy Indian food. Also very friendly staff. Enjoy:-)

I thought the decor was really cute. Some of the food was good and pretty authentic (Chicken Tikki Masala) some was not authentic at all (Lamb Vindaloo tasted like it was in Marinara sauce). The naan was delicious, but when is it not? I would return, but might try other Indian places in the area first.

This is my first review, so bear with me. It's a guy's night out like every Friday night and we originally were going to eat at Bossa Nova in West Hollywood. Unfortunately, their power had gone out so we walked around and found this restaurant at 10:50PM. We were greeted and seated by the host. According to Yelp, the business hours go until 2:00AM on Friday and Saturday, but this is incorrect. It was 5 of us tonight and we sat down to order. We ordered our food and the dinner came pretty fast. The poor waiter even apologized for having to give us the bill so quickly. At first I thought that this was uncool, but I come to find out that they close at 11:00PM! All those workers were waiting for us to leave, sorry guys. The service was perfect and the dinner was delicious. We left at 11:28PM and were greatly satisfied with the service and the food.
Here are the updated hours from their site:

Mon - Thu: 05:00 PM - 10:30 PM

I really wanted to like this place, the Patio is great to sit and eat a nice lunch, but the lunch was not nice.
The people that have given this a 5 star rating must have never eaten Indian food before.
The chicken tandoori was a pale colour, not the usual red (ok they didn't add the food coloring) but i was referring to the color of the meat inside, as was the chicken curry, I have never seen grey chicken meat.
The Tikka Masala and chicken curry which is usually a safe bet was not,, it was almost like they threw in chunks of chicken into the sauce and didn't let it simmer.
The naan and rice were about the only things I ate.
I mean it, I REALLY tried to like this place, its a perfect outdoor location. sadly I gotta pass, this was my second visit, hoping that things had changed.
Get some authentic Indian food please, then I will be back.
Two stars for location. -

Over priced + below average food. Will never come back again.
Don't believe the review below. " best Indian restaurant in LA I can guarantee" ??? It is complete BS! After some research on yelp, we went to this location tonight expecting to pay any price for higher-end indian food. We had the flat bread, chicken tikka masala, and naan.
1. flat bread ($0) was bitter and doesn't taste good.
2. Chicken tikka masala (~$13+3): The sauce is not terrible, but chicken is pretty hard and dry. Rice costs ~$3 extra..
3. Naan (~$3) is above average.
Over all Service is not bad, but I just don't get a "friendly vibe" there. Taste of the whole meal is way below expectation. And it costs more than its worth. The parking is $5 !!! Avoid this place at all cost! I'd eat at McDonal's before I eat here again.
Do yourself a favor and spend 1/3 of the money and enjoy a way better meal at Saffron.
*The sauce and chicken are way better.
*I just found this out: Check in and get naan for freeee!
*Tip is not mandatory *wink wink*
*Plus you don't have to pay extra for rice. -

West Hollywood, CA
I've eaten here 3 times and will never go back. This is the worst Indian food I've ever had. Attributed it to a fluke but 3 times is enough.
The service actually has been decent so that's not even the issue.
The curries are always totally tasteless and watery. The chicken nearly made me throw up. There's no consistency to the flavor at all, except that it sucks. And it's like $14.
The pakota fell apart in my plate.
The samosas are two penis shaped cones that were crunchy and overly greasy.
Naan should be okay, but it tasted like stale pancake.
Nothing's good here. How can it be? -

Los Angeles, CA
So not the best Indian food but I am a total Indian snob so if you are new to the game or don't like to eat like the natives, then this is top notch.
Service is always great and the buffet is a much better value than other lunch buffets. -
Review from Alexa A.
Los Angeles, CA
Went in for lunch on Thursday, they were near closing time so I was glad they stayed open for us and wasn't offended that the service was just... Terrible. Not rude, but we had to ask for every little thing we needed, including things that came with our meal but weren't brought to us.
For the food, we ordered the eggplant appetizer (taste was gross, something off about it) and the chicken korma which was absolutely amazing... Until we left and both of us got the WORST case of food poisoning we've EVER had. As in, had lunch at 2, felt sick by 3, and were throwing up at 3:30.
I've never thought of giving a restaurant a bad review until this one, and only to warn people that I would never eat there again, the thought of how bad that food must have been makes me cringe... You're better off picking a restaurant across the street. -
Review from Marta F.
Beverly Hills, CA
When the best items on the lunch buffet are the green salad and the basmati rice you know you've found a must-miss place. Watery, tasteless food. Daal looked like soup and tasted like water. Chicken curry and chicken tikka masala were terrible. Extremely disappointing. I wanted to give no stars but I don't think I can. Naan came after we were finished eating. If this were the only Indian place open in L.A. I still wouldn't go.

Group of 15 girls having a Bachelorette Party dinner. The host/owners were incredibly accommodating, our table was ready for us as well as the staff.
We ordered a variety of items including the garlic naan, vegetarian coconut curries, paleek paneer, etc.
Food was hot, had the right amount of spice level for each dish and well sized.
Dessert was your standard rice puddings and many of our group did enjoy them.
Decent wine/beer selection as well.
This place nailed the food, ambiance and service. We can't thank them enough for having us and providing us with a good dining experience. -

Culver City, CA
Worst Indian food I've ever had... The first time wasn't awful, but the second and third times were. I was originally excited about this place because they have idli which I had not had since moving to LA from NYC (the idli is ok). But, as a rather novice Indian cook (but I'm a good cook in general) I can make better Indian food. Save your money and head to Samosa House instead.

Review from Amy C.
As we waited in line for the Troubadour, our stomachs grumbled & our mouths ran dry. Can we go in for a bite or a drink before the show? Nope. Our only option? Meandering up and down SaMo Blvd, attempting to find a stop that would feed and "drink" us in under 20 minutes.
The first stop on our search? Dan Tana's. Nope, too expensive, packed, and slow. Next stop: Flavor of India. Salvation! The place was empty (except for the group of 5 at the knee-high table) and we were seated immediately. The waitress kept giving me weird looks, but we ignored it and ordered up.
An ice cold Amstel Light and a two-minute wait later and we check into Yelp. We got an awesome surprise - a free appetizer with the order of a beer. "Mark offer used" and we were presented with Samosas. Neither of us knew what a samosa was, but that offered us even more excitement (yes, we are far too easily pleased). Yum! Deliciously warm, beefy/potatoey goodness.... all the while, still receiving the odd looks from the young waitress.
We asked for our check, and still... weird looks. The waitress finally looked at me and asked, "are you famous?" I couldn't help but laughing... pretty hard. A nice compliment, I guess, only seemingly adding to the thrill/unique experience. We paid, hustled our way back to Troubadour with warm bellies and huge smiles on our face. A great experience. In fact, so great, we can't wait to go back!Listed in: Build-A-Date!

This place is okay. The food is pretty good, but the portions are small and it is expensive. My biggest issue besides being overpriced is that their cheese naan is weird. They use some weird cheese that is texture wise like feta. I dont know what it is, but it doesnt taste that great. It is probably the more traditional style or something but my fat ass likes the regular cheesy yummy cheese that a lot of other places serve!

Pretty darn great Indian fare.
My never-fail go-tos are Tikka Masala (I don't care that it's not really an INDIAN Indian dish, it's good. shut up.) and Saag Paneer, and Flavor of India's incarnations do not disappoint. -

Not too authentic Indian and I've definitely had better. Very average service and in this city, there's just too many options so why settle for average food. No thanks.

Actually, I was there for a cooking class that I bought on GroupOn. We had a blast watching the chef make us a meal and were given the recipes.
The food was amazingly good. I just remade the whole meal tonight at home and it was equally killer. I would definitely go back to the restaurant and try another dish. We made the green coconut curry chicken, with the cauliflower, cucumber salad, pakora and pulloa. So the cooking took some skill and some time, but it was worth it. -

Date night. Date night comes so infrequently for this mommy, so baby daddy and I had to do it up right! Especially since my man was obliging by accompanying me on a Saturday night for singer-songwriter Cary Brothers' show next door at the Troub (-adour, for those who aren't native Los Angelenos). Now, I don't know about you ladies out there, but my man is a guy's guy...and sappy singer-songwriters (even though I don't consider Cary one at all) just aren't a guy's guy thing. The least I could do was allow my man to choose where he fill his belly.
Flavor of India is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in L.A. I have no idea what all these people are talking about when they rate it less than three stars. But, I've not had their meat items as I am vegetarian, so everything I've ever had in this joint is amazingly savory, complex and divine.
On this particular date night, we both decided to have the Vegetarian Thali which allowed us to choose to veggie entrees accompanied by dal, rice, raita, kachumber and naan.
To start, we ordered samosas and masala chai. I chose the okra (sorry, can't remember the Indian name) and aloo gobi, both medium spicy as my entrees. Baby daddy stuck with his tried and true favorite, malai kofta (spicy) and a tofu dish (again, I'm at a loss for the Indian moniker) which he ordered medium spicy.
I hadn't been to Flavor of India in a couple of years, but I'm really glad we chose to go in that night because I'd forgotten just how good their food was! I typically head to Flavor of India for pre-Troub dinners, but I think we may have to come in more regularly.
The malai kofta was nutty and the sauce creamy as usually. However, this particular dish had a bit of zing as it was tomato-ey, which was something the man and I weren't used to, but, this added dimension made it all the better!
And my cup of chai...bottomless. There was never a moment that I had to ask for a refill. I was ridiculously amped come showtime. So much so that my boyfriend had to excuse himself and hide in the bar. Sorry, honey. At least you had a yummy meal!
All-in-all, it was a great night! -
Review from Kory P.
Las Vegas, NV
Decent but certainly not the best indian food I've had.
I ordered Samosas, Lamb Curry, Naan, and the Sweet Lassi. Samosas were good, but a little too greasy, and VERY dense. My first choice was Lamb Vindaloo, but as they only serve it crazy spicy, I opted for my second choice - Lamb Curry. Decent Curry but not as complex tasting as some better Curry's that I've had. Lamb was perfect - really tender.
The Naan was awesome. I have nothing to say other than - 'perfect!' The Sweet Lassi was delicious. I am a sucker for anything with Rosewater.
Free delivery within 2 miles,
A little pricey, but solid for a craving. -

I moved to West Hollywood from Silverlake, home of Agra Cafe, the best Indian food Ive ever eaten in my life.
Since moving to West Hollywood Ive been on the hunt for WH version of Agra. Fail after Fail after Fail I finally found this place and I'm so glad I did!
I ordered the Chicken Tikki Massala, and it was amazing. The Garlic Naan and Raita was also right up there with Agra.
Why didn't I give it 5 stars, because they charged me $3.00 for delivery upon asking me if my order was just for one person. -

Took my friend's Sunday morning workout class then came here with her for lunch! We had the Sunday lunch buffet over a glass of Chardonnay - super refreshing ;)
Normally, I'm not that into curry, but for some reason, I really enjoyed the ones here - esp the chicken curry. I love their freshly made naan - dip it in the chicken curry along with a side of saag and lettuce was the ISH!! I also like the vegetarian curry potato dish... not sure what was in it but it was delicious.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time here with my friend - pigging out while catching up under a peaceful environment with authentic Indian decor definitely made my Sunday afternoon!
However... I am knocking 1 star off this place... because I found a small piece of hair (it seemed to be a dude's hair) in the samosa sauce or whatever dipping sauce that was... Thank goodness I spotted it before I even brought my plate back to my table... I didn't let that affect my appetite for the other dishes though... lol -

Two words: simply divine. Passing through the threshold, my guest and I felt like we had transported to some exotic, foreign land. My senses were overwhelmed with the bright colors clothing the tables and enveloping the interior walls from the rough exterior, enticing (DELICIOUS) smells, and friendly wait staff...a rare find in L.A. We ordered the chicken korma and methi chicken curry (extra spicy), with the garlic naan bread and cheese pakora (by request, as it was not on the menu). Our server was attentive and more than happy to cater to our special requests (all white meat, less oil, etc.). Without a doubt the best Indian food in Los Angeles.
A recommendation: for a cozy, unique experience, request seating in the floor area! -

WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN. I don't eat Indian food very often but when I do I'm usually seriously craving it. Having eaten here once before I thought that I would do a pick up after a long day of traveling with family who were here visiting me from Australia. Ordering over the phone the staff member who answered the phone was VERY rude and pushy, I understand trying to sell something but this guy was basically telling ME what I needed to order (and not in a friendly/helpful way), after completing my phone order, he decided to take it upon himself to ADD things to my order and ultimately to the check. I sent my mother inside to pick up the order while I waited in the car. When she returned she told me that the guy INSISTED that she leave him a generous tip because "that's what we do in America". NO ONE I know (myself included) has ever tipped on pick up orders nor have we been bullied into leaving a 20% tip ANYWHERE. I was SO disappointed that this restaurant was taking advantage of foreigners who didn't fully understand the American tipping system in order to make money (although then having eaten their food I understand their desperation for money). Upon hearing this, I immediately called the restaurant back and asked to speak to a manager, the same guy answered the phone and told me the manager was not in. I politely asked him for a time that I could call back to speak to one because I had a complaint. He then told me that he in fact was the manager and hung up on me. The food was cold, average and overpriced, this is why the restaurant is always empty - and with many great restaurants in LA (with friendly and attractive staff) simply AVOID AVOID AVOID this one!!!

Review from Sean B.
Respectable little Indian restaurant on the west end of West Hollywood, almost to the Beverly Hills line. Walked by it a million times, kept making a mental note that I should check it out sometime.
Last night, walking back from MI-6, saw the sign for the Saturday/Sunday All-You-Can-Eat Brunch Buffet for $11.95. Winner!
Headed there this morning w/ my nephew in tow to check it out. Damn, 103F in WeHo today. Should've been "that guy" and driven the three blocks instead of walking. SO LA.
Anyway, we were greeted and seated... a bit of confusion because of the two unoccupied tables inside (no way we were going to sit away from the air conditioning today) there was one with a water bottle abandoned on it, one with no placesettings. Took us a minute or two to clarify w/ the server where we should sit; he insisted that the table with a child seat on it was available. We weren't certain.
The food was standard-issue Indian food. Liked it a lot. The tandoori chicken, especially, was really nice and flavorful. Especially liked that it didn't have that fake-dyed-bright-red look of some. I know it's normal, but it looks so unnatural. The tandoori here was more of a golden brown, though the flavor was the same as the red you'll get elsewhere.
Servers were nice enough, food was good. Nothing blew me away but everything was tasty. The price is right. Wish the AC was cranked higher, but maybe that's just me. Today was extreme heat too, so can't really hate.
I'll be back, it was good. That being said, I'd be open to try another Indian place if a friend insisted. I'm not committed to making this 'my place' for Indian food based upon this one visit. -

Overall the food was really good. We had vegetable pakoras, vegetable korma, shahi paneer, and mango lassi. We don't normally order all yellow-orange food but it was just that kind of day, I guess. The service was okay. The atmosphere was a tad weird because it's basically a plastic covered carport next to the ever-busy Santa Monica dressed up nicely to look like a restaurant. It's okay.
