This place has so many good things going for it: ambiance, fabulous drinks, seasonally revolving menu, really cute bartenders my girlfriends drool over...  It can be hard to get a table and/or a drink from the servers, so head straight to the bar.  Get a reservation if you really need a table after 7/8pm.

The art deco is a refreshing design style and the arches in this space are truly beautiful.  And I love the dark wood bar. Perfect for a drink after work: whiskey sour with brandied cherries.

Now a lot of people may be thinking I am cheap or something reading my reviews.  I often point out if something is too expensive.  For instance when I go to some dive bar, and a mixed drink is $12, I am not very happy about it.

However, this place has $13 drinks, and it actually seems cheap!  I was very impressed with the attention to detail and quality of service.  It was interesting sitting at the bar watching them make my drinks, it shows that the bartenders are very skilled.  I think that some of the attention to detail was over the top and perhaps fake, but the drinks were innovative and excellent.  They had fresh greens, nice large ice cubes that were perfectly square.  Drink menus were there so you are not totally lost, but the bartenders can suggest anything for you based on your responses to their questions.  Like I can go in and say hmm I want something strong with cognac and they would suggest things.

The space is not huge, and they do take reservations, but it was not very busy there when I went on a saturday night around 8pm.  This is a place that you would want to go to have a discussion with someone over great drinks or perhaps a quiet date.  You really do not want to be standing with these drinks as this is not that type of place.  I recommend sitting at the bar if possible.

Great space and architecture, interesting and inventive drinks, a nice split between the two floors. Music was negligible.. which is a shame because the 50s vibe of this bar would be so awesome for some jazz or something old school and charming.

The best thing is they take reservations and are pretty good at honoring them. Do make one because there isn't much standing and chatting with random people space. Lots of large group tables.. so it's ideal for someone's birthday or something of that sort. Crowd seemed normal/typical for the neighborhood (ie. a little preppy).

After a sweet fun, not so small, Halloween/House warming party at Cindy C.'s, Edna Mode, Cat in the Hat, Guitar Hero Rock Star and Tuxedo Mask decided to put their human disguise on and try out Flatiron on a friday night.

Stepping in, I immediately felt great in the chic space, the lighting made it real mysterious yet warm. It was a bit hard to read the menu after sitting down because it was pretty dark at our booth, but thanks to technology, our cell-phones worked as perfect flashlights. After reading the menu, 4 out of 5 of us, without discussing, all decided to get the Beijing Peach, but Chris was willing to be the bigger person and order the Rose King (or King Rose) to let us have some variety in our flavors. Both drinks were fantastic. The beijing peach was so delicious, no doubt if I ever return I'd just order the same thing (which I rarely do for drinks). The Rose King was also a good choice, strawberry puree and basil...wohoo~

This is definitely a great place for dates, especially on a quieter night like the one we had! Somebody take me ~

Flatiron lounge is an institution, and certainly one of the better bars above 14th St (not that it's far off).

Creative menu littered with unique recipes by guest bartenders, they are good with both classics and modern premium cocktails. Certainly one of the best bars in New York that is not a throwback to the Prohibition through 50's era.

Awfully hard to score a table after 8 so make a reservation or show up earlier. 3.5 stars.

FINALLY!

After several unsuccessful attempts at Flatiron lounge, we called ahead at around 1am and decided to race there in a cab -

After leaving Boston, and one of my favorite bars there, Drink, I was on a mission to find a replacement, and Sara S recommended flatiron. The drinks are slightly pricier, $10-$14 range..but after sampling the Beijing Peach, which was apparently one of their top cocktails, I know I'll be back.

Flatiron Lounge is a great spot, with seating at the bar as well as tables - we snagged one of the enclosed circular booths and had a great time, great drinks and even better conversations. It wasn't too loud that we had to shout, and the space wasn't crowded at all. Definitely somewhere to catch up with an old friend, or simply just to enjoy the yummy drinks over great conversations.

Sidenote.......it was so dark in there that 5 of us all pulled out our cellphones for extra lighting to read the menu. Was it too dark? Or were we simply too old and our eyes are now failing us?! I blame the lounge

The good:
- interesting, tasty cocktails
- manageable noise level
- central location in the Flatiron/Chelsea area

The mediocre:
- Not a lot of seating, and oh, by the way, you need a reservation
- Bar area upstairs is quite small
- Without a reservation, and with a semi-large group, you feel like a total asshole
- the bartenders take making cocktails so seriously that it literally takes five minutes to make one drink. and in that time, you become totally entranced with the process so you don't notice that it actually just took five minutes to make...
- also, that drink that just took 15 minutes to order and five minutes to watch being made? yeah, it cost $15. I shouldn't complain; it's Manhattan.

GUYS! I SAW CHRISTINA HENDRICKS HERE. JOAN HALLOWAY. I'M SERIOUS.

That, tasty but STRONG drinks, and the cavernous entranceway are about all I remember. The folks here need to do a better job of regulating how shitfaced their customers get, because this place utterly destroyed me. Good god.

This place is always oddly empty every time i make it here, which I like.

The bartenders make each drink carefully and are very knowledgeable. The "flights" are a great way to see what good work they do. My only objection is that the menu does not change very often. The drinks are $13, which I find reasonable considering you can pay $10 for a vodka tonic, while these drinks take at least 5 minutes to make each and are made with fresh fruits/juices and top-shelf liquors.

The last time I was here the bartender comped half our $45 tab because he forgot one drink order (in spite of immediately coming back to get the order again and apologizing for forgetting). The bar was very empty so I have a feeling it was for the sake of a good tip, but I thought that was very polite and shows how well they take care of customers.

So, so cozy and wonderful. Felt almost like Nora Charles! Almost, the people sitting next to me drinking miller light and being somewhat awkward made me feel a bit like a lame imitation rather then the real thing, but all the more reason to drink cocktails I suppose!
The drinks are definitely good, but the atmosphere is better. With the right group of people at one of those circular cozy booths, it could easily be a perfect night out.

Drinks are always perfect here. Just when you think your favorite drink cannot get any more perfect, they go and hire a new bartender who proves you wrong. This is what happened to me last week. I showed up at about 1am on a Thursday, with a friend. We sat at the bar. I ordered a Hendricks Negroni, up. It was perfectly executed. In fact it was so good I wanted to jump over the bar and hug the bartender. (Note: I showed some restraint.)

New bartender or not this place is always a treat. The decor exoticizes the prohibition era; with velvet booths and sparse decorations, the room is chic and comfortable. I'm not sure if it's because of the way the seats are arranged or if it's because of the general vibe, but I've noticed that customers tend to focus on their friends, not on who is around them, which is a welcome change from other bars.

If I didn't live in the area I might not go out of my way to get a drink here, and so I am glad I do because it gives me a reason to come here. I know the cocktails can be pricey, but when they're this tasty it's not hard to justify the price. Everything has a value, and in this case it's all worth it.

Mixology 101 is in session here.  A small diverse menu of drinks makes you take some time to make a proper decision.  After consulting with the bartender and getting some friendly and helpful advice, I went for a Mint Julep first.  It came in a sterling cup with mint flowing out of the top, almost too much to drink without having the mint hit your mouth, but after you disperse some of the drink you can drown the mint in the rest and it gets even better.  It was a great drink, one I would get again.

The bar is a nice L-shape and there are some nice small booths with comfortable seating scattered throughout the back across from the bar.  On the way in, there are seats at high-top stations all across both sides to accommodate the crowd that I am sure arrives later than when I was there.

I can't wait to go back here with the information I took with me after the first visit.

I fell in love with this place! I hadn't been out in New York in awhile, so I had to ask friends on where to go when my cousin from out of town was visiting. A friend recommended Flatiron Lounge to start our night, and I'm so happy we did!

Their bartenders, firstoff are top-notch people! The service from everyone behind the bar was exceptional, friendly, quick, and accomodating. They also were ready to suggest any of their fabulous cocktails if you asked. We had our regular fixes- gin and tonics, and they were very smooth. Then we tried the King's Rose, because we saw them handling all these giant bushes of fresh, leafy basil- we just had to. Soooo good. The only thing is that their cocktails are pretty expensive- around 12-13 dollars. They have a great menu of drinks.

The ambiance was also very great- definitely a good new-yorker vibe, as my cousin observed. We got in around midnight and the bar wasn't too full, but before we went to our next destination around 1 the place got pretty crowded.

It was a very classy, fun time- perfect place to start one's evening.

Thanks Leighann F. for the Flatiron recommendation. We were headed to dinner at Sushi Samba around the corner, so this was the perfect location!

Flatiron has a great drink menu, but the talented and knowledgeable bartenders are able to concoct anything on a whim based on your flavor preferences; tell them you like vodka, melon, spicy, strong enough to get you really effed up (my exact words, when my former boss arrived- "Make him something that's going to f%#$  HIM UP- but still taste good!"). You name it, they'll make it!

I had a "gingery mojito" made with homemade ginger beer which was great, although not as spicy and gingery as Boston's Drink. I also had a Bamboo, which included cachaca and kiwi, also delicious! Finally, I had an Aviation, which was perfect. I am not a gin person by any means, but Aviations are delicious!

My friend got a Flight Series, which, for a little over $20, you get three handmade miniature cocktails. SO cool!

Service was great, but Ryan in particular was awesome. Very personable and fun to chat with while enjoying our libations. I'd recommend Flatiron to anyone who is looking for a low key, unique cocktail experience!

They did it again...  I left completely pleased and I'm increasing my rating to 4.5, I wish I could reflect that .. :- /

After a great evening with another Yelpers at Megu, my friend Sarah and me decided to stop by Flatiron for a last drink trying to erase a questionable "signature cocktail" at Bubble Lounge.. if this is a good practice is also questionable and a different history, ejem.... anyways, we already knew that you can't be wrong with Flatiron. True mixologist character, great service, nice crowd, cozy ambiance; just the experienced consistency in each one deserve a .5 increase .. clearly.  But some extras worth an update; like the fact that I became 1 day older at the first step: is still Thursday?  Full of people without to be uncomfortable, in their 25-35, socializing ambiance. Thursday night is a weekend night at Flatiron Lounge...  what to say about another feed to my addiction to Sweet Crystallized Ginger... keeping my tradition, I asked for a side piece of sweet crystallized ginger.. our mixologist flight to bring me 2 pieces of the sweetest ginger in a paper sword. his smile his attitude... and me buzzing.

But the main characters today are

- The Maiden's Swizzle; a cocktail consisting in a mix of Rum campari St germain Sweetened with Velvet....umm mm

- and the Ode To Ankarah - Gin, fresh lemmon & grapefruit, St Germain and bitters ... and a purple flower. HEAVEN; a Kenta Goto's creation, my favorite mixologist so far who works at Pegu Club. Your .5 increase doesn't happen because Kenta... I swear. But I love his drinks... and your execution is perfect ... so no worries Flati, I love you too  ~~

3 adjectives: Classy, jazzy, and sophisticated. Pretty synonymous, so you know what it's really about here. Being a bartender I was so impressed with the professional demeanor of the bar staff here and their wealth of knowledge.
D: "Hi, can I have a JW Black Manhattan? (Bourbon, ugh)"
Bartender: "Ok, a scotch Manhattan instead, would you like that on the sweeter side or more stiff?"
D: "Definitly not sweeter."
B: "Gottcha, up or on the rocks?"
D: " Up"
B: "You got it"
Spent about 2 minutes on a cocktail that can easily be made (or butchered) in 20 seconds. Asked questions to give you exactly what you're looking for. Result: perfection.
Come with a date, a friend, good for intimate chats, and a relaxing night.
Expect higher quality for a slightly higher price.

Medium sized cavernous lounge/bar with a fairly extensive drink menu.

The staff definitely exceeded my expectations. The second I walked in the hostess offered to hold a large bag I was holding for me (thanks!) and when my friend arrived she helped us  find a cozy two seat table for us on the spot.

There are about 8 tables/ booths. If they are filled though you can sit at the bar, or stool seats against the wall of the hall leading into the lounge.

Yet again be prepared to spend about $15 per cocktail but at least they pack a punch and are mixed rather well. The Lychee Martini was one of the bests I've had only being beat by Shangs tangy version. I had a rather odd incident involving my drink happen while we were there- but it was impossible for me to act like the usual bitchy customer with the staff and manager being so accomodating and apologetic! Everyone who works there seems to really strive to please the customers - I mean we drank for 4 hours on the house afterward!!!

What makes me really want to come back here though is the fact that I was able to have a conversation with my amiga minus the loud obnoxious music or douchebags hitting on us. It's not really the place to make friends...think after work business crowd, but it's great if you have a million things to tell your girl friend before she goes away for the weekend::smiles::

Very cool place I look forward to grabbing drinks there again when I'm in the area.

The lighting was dim, the music was good, my fiancee was hot and the drinks were stong.
It was such a fun night out! We went on a weekday and so the atmosphere was really mellow and our waitress had the time to be extra attentive. She made some great drink suggestions, both classic and unique. Love the art deco theme, enough to be noticeable without being tacky. When I finally move to New York, I plan to make this a regular destination.

I nearly threw down a 3-star rating, because I guess I just expected more, based on reputation. I've been here more than once, and both times I felt the place is simply overrated. Sure, the drinks are well-made. But I feel like there is a lack of creativity, and the staff can be somewhat rude. When I asked the bartender to make me the drink of his choice, and I'd go with whatever he made -- which, by the way, is a compliment for a bartender -- he simply plucked one off the menu. NOT what I was going for.

As far as places to get a great drink go, this is definitely not as highbrow / "exclusive" as the Sasha Petraske establishments, and the drinks aren't quite as good either (just as pricey though). Flatiron Lounge serves a crowd just a bit older than the Petraske spots, but at least it is large enough to accomodate a reasonable amount of people. There isn't however much seating... be prepared to stand if you're more than 2 people. The service is alright, as a waitress was glad to exchange a drink that my friend didn't enjoy. On the other hand, the hostess wouldn't let my friends and I sit at a reserved table (just until the reserving party arrived) -- turns out, the party bailed and we were allowed to take the seats.

Still, not a bad place for a drink if you're on a date. Table for 2? I think that would work.

More inclusive than it's discriminating cousins Milk and Honey, PDT, Angel Share, Flatiron welcomes any and everyone into its low lit bar to sample the well-poured concoctions of its tenders.

Through the open foyer, there's a long bar with plenty of stools (and hooks for your bags!) as well as round leather booths to the side. The laid back vibe makes it perfect for a catch-up drink or to impress a date before (or after!) dinner. I like the well thought out menu that changes often, as well as the option to purchase a flight of 3 cocktails for $22.

My friend and I opted to order our first round off the menu. I had Vincente's Andicdote which I was a little bit dubious about trying given the description, but the bartender insisted if I didn't like sweet drinks, I'd love this. And he was right! It was like a non-syrupy margarita in a beautiful chartreuse that I happily gulped down. My 2nd drink I decided to test his cocktail chops and ordered a Penicillin that had been previously introduced to moi by Kathleen R. and Becca S. My pop quiz didn't phase him in the slightest; it came out just LOVELY and with that, Flatiron had me sold.

Of course it's a little bit more pricey (around $12 a cocktail) than most joints in the hood but the impeccable service, taste and vibe, it's well worth forking over a few extra dollars.

Nice sized, dim lounge, not pretentious.  The drinks at this lounge are great, the bartenders are great, friendly and helpful.  The drinks on the menu are good but I like gin and I asked the bartender to make me something with gin and citrus.  It was delicious.  I had a pisco flight of three one night, they were having a peru themed flight that night.
Another great thing about this place, is that you could go to Sala 19 for dinner right next door then come here for a drink.
The location is good if you want a low key night cause there's not too much in the flatiron area, so I'm not tempted to go bar hopping after.

Read the good reviews on here and was in the area last night so decided to check it out. It was fairly crowded, but one nice gentleman offered to move to another empty seat so that my friend and I could both sit at the bar- thanks! The bartender greeted us and then gave us time to study the cocktails menu. I ordered one off the menu- and I am wishing now I could remember the name of it. Something Especial I believe! Anyways it was a combo of strawberries and pisco and something else and champagne, and it was fantastic! I ended up having 2 of them because it was just so good. My friend decided she wanted a Lychee martini (not on the list) but the bartender assured her that was no problem. She also said she did not want it to be too sweet. Again, no problem. He mixed up a drink to her specifications. She thought it was good, but mine was better, so she switched to that for her 2nd.

I'd go back here again when I'm looking for a nice cocktail. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. The decor was just ok to me. It wasn't bad, but it was lacking something. That's just my opinion, but certainly not enough to deter me from going back.

I love the concept of this place!

I am typically a beer kind of girl, but a good cocktail every now and then works too!

Sara S. and I got here on the early side (6-ish) before dinner around the corner at 8:30. I started out with the daily flight. For $22 you get 3 mini cocktails - I don't remember exactly what was in each one - but they were all excellent and very fresh! The fruit flavors in each one(apricot, raspberry, and cherry) were perfect on a summer day!

Next we chatted up one of the bartenders, Ryan, who happened to know about one of Sara's favorite places in Boston, with a similar concept to the Flatiron Lounge, Drink. We both told him some of the flavors we liked and he concocted custom cocktails for us. Mine was vodka, honeydew juice, lime, sugar, and some other type of alcohol that I can't seem to remember. All I know is that it was the best cocktail I've ever had!

Prices are typical Manhattan, but since you get such custom service it's worth it. Service may be a tad on the slow side, but as I said, the custom drinks are worth it!

Can't wait to go back!

One word for the indecisive (or those who just like a little variety): FLIGHT.

No matter the flight on offer at Flatiron, get it. Three diminutive glasses will arrive and their contents are sure to delight. Recently the flight included a couple of their new for spring cocktails along with a fizzy number that kicked off my weekend in the most proper way imaginable.

And if you want my recommendation on a single cocktail, I'd offer up the Clover Club. On my last visit I had a sip of someone's and it was divine. It's no surprise that Flatiron's owner has another bar in Brooklyn that bears this pre-Prohibition cocktail's name.

I count myself among the lucky to have the Flatiron Lounge in such close proximity to my place of work.

Very classy lounge. Kind of dark but that's the good part where the bar area is lit up bunch of very nice crowd talking to each other, enjoying their drinks. I really liked this place. We went there for my birthday and were there for about 3 hours.

Excellent place from inside. If you go there for the first time, you probably wouldn't know that it is a good place from outside but as soon as you open the door, environment changes and goes into more active and vibrant one.

Drink prices are average, not bad at all. The best part I like about this lounge is that they change their drink menu 4 times a year and we were one of the lucky group who got to taste the items from new menu which wasn't out yet.

I've been here a few times and the cocktails are nice and strong.  It's nice that this place has been around for a while and hasn't gotten very pretentious like other cocktail lounges.  Otherwise I don't have much to add that hasn't been said except for this.
My latest visit was recent when I dropped by to see some very drunk friends.  They weren't causing a scene but dropped two drinks which the staff took care of very nicely.  They very easily could have been kicked out, but weren't.  I think that was pretty nice of them.

I like this place. The drinks are good, the barkeeps are nice and accommodating, and the clientele is good (laidback professionals, mostly). The prices are a little on the high side, but the fact that the drinks are unique and that they make them with all fresh ingredients justifies the price. Good place to stop in for a drink or two.

I thought the whole speakeasy thing had become a bit overdone, but coming in here to find some reprieve from the whipping winds of the flat iron district was a very happy accident.

The flat iron lounge successfully attains a subtle period theme without getting lost in the novelty of secret passwords and a lack of signage. Beautiful art deco lights adorn the ceilings, and a unique cocktail list of forgotten concoctions really make this a pleasant place to have a few drinks.

or....

I'm not the kind of guy who would try to give you wooden nickles, but this is the ritziest juice joint this palooka has ever had a sip of giggle water in.  The Real McCoy, I tell ya!

Flatiron Lounge is a historic Prohibition-era bar...for real, not like all of those imitation places springing up everywhere now.  The elegant space takes you back in time with the old-fashioned round booths, tacky upholstered furniture, and mini table lamps.

The drink menu is packed with interesting mixologist specialties, as well as classics like Sidecars.  The Hemingway Daquiri was a non-frozen blend of white rum and strawberries.  The beverage was more tart and alcohol-potent than sweet.  I was not impressed.  I thought the drinks here were supposed to be amazing?!

The $13-15 beverage price tag is more appealing at places like Pegu Club or Little Branch.

I love this place. It has old world charm and great service and I have to agree with Parisa that their vodka gimlet's are pretty fabulous. Also, they have some great signature cocktails.

What I would caution you is there are never enough seats, negotiate with the cocktail waitresses to get a great cushy booth to the side, and tip her nicely when she gives you what you want.

Great place for late night drinks during the week. Stay clear on the weekends as it turns into a 30-something B&T group.

I'm conflicted. For about the last 8 years or so I was a scotch guy....ok, I'll admit I would have the occasional Bloody Mary with breakfast, or beer at a BBQ, but for the most part scotch. I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly...

And yeah, I've been to a few places known for their cocktails, but that was mostly to impress the lady....I ordered scotch.

So in looking for a nice place for L's birthday weekend, I turned to yelp, and PM'ed  a young lady who seemed to have been to almost every cocktail lounge in the city, for her recommendation....and she graciously responded with Flatiron Lounge.

I walk in and there is a gaggle of people at the door, I'm nervous, stupid birthday weekend stress....but we are led to a lovely little table in the back....I have no idea why that group was standing at the door.

The decor has been described as 1920's Miami chic, but since May will be the first time I travel to Miami, I'll just describe it as clean, inviting, and with an old school charm.

Here is where the problems start. We order the flight of the day...."Back in Time" A sidecar, a rum concoction, and an old school gin martini....they are all delicious....and none of them were glenfiddich on the rocks. Ok, so we have a little more time before the show...round two. I order a rum and pear mix, and she asks for a champagne, with cherry, vodka, and other niceties...

Again this place strikes gold....FUCK, I am in love with 13 dollar cocktails....why can't I be a bud light guy, it so much more fits in line with my budget..

Hold that thought, bud light is gross, cocktails from Flatiron Lounge are amazing, and so is the atmosphere.....I like me....and I love this place. Back to work so I can afford my new addiction.

One of the best bars in town. I go there whenever I need to treat my friends from other states or countries. We always have a good time here. Art of Mixing Drinks.

Nice place to meet friends for drinks, there's a good cocktail selection, the staff is very pleasant, and the place is always vibrant.  Cozy vintage feel, very relaxed, one of my favorite places in New York.
