Everything in my earlier review still applies, but I wanted to update my review from a mother's point of view.
The staff was really accommodating (trying to find a container that would double as a bottle warmer (the martini shaker worked well) and setting up the tables to make room for the stroller), but changing a diaper is next to impossible here. We ended up changing him on the floor of the bathroom, which is just all kinds of gross. Poor kid.
A great place in general, but not baby-friendly from a logistical point of view.

So I have been back a ton since that first review and have grown to love the mac and cheese here.… Read more »
I've actually been here a good few times. Mostly were for drinks and playing catch up with friends, but a few weeks ago we wanted to go somewhere low key for cheaper drinks and somewhat good food on a Saturday at 8:30pm. We walked in and immediately got a table and ordered drinks. "Bud Light. Actually, do you have any pumpkin beer? "Sure we do!" "Thanks. I'll have a pumpkin beer."
We then ordered the spinach and artichoke dip, the calamari, and the turkey burger snacks to split three ways. The food was just awful. We all choked down our completely tasteless bites and continued drinking until it was time to take off to place #2 of 5 places of the night. After about an hour or so, we get our bill. The pumpkin beer was $10 a bottle. I would think that if I were a waitress and someone said "Bud Light" I'd assume they weren't looking for real taste.. just beer. And how much is a bottle of Bud Light? $6? Pumpkin beer is $10? I'm sorry, but I think she should've had the courtesy to say "Just an fyi - it's a little bit pricey." On top of how bad the food was.. that little surprise at the end really annoyed me. I can think of MUCH better places to drop $100 at for our first stop of the night.
I've got a pretty solid thing going with Flash's. I may not hang out with him for a while, or show much love for a stretch, but that doesn't mean I don't care. Whenever I go back to him, I remember why I became enamoured in the first place.
It's an ideal after work spot, the food is inventive but comforting after a long day and the drinks are unique and well poured. Food standouts are the mac and cheese, calamari, and they used to have a Thai sandwich that was really good though I haven't seen it on the menu in a while. The vast drink menu has plenty of fun and potent offerings, my personal fave features cilantro.
Service is good, I've never had a problem and that's all I tend to ask for. I don't come too often in the summer, because as others have said they have no A/C and it's hard to truly unwind with a nice beverage when I'm shvitzing like a mother. The atmosphere is classy but friendly and relaxed.
x's and o's, Flash, from me to you.
I love this place! The food is fun as well asthe drinks and atmosphere.
Went here at about 1am with a friend to celebrate carving our pumpkin for Halloween. I had some Iced Tea drink with mint drink which was kind of like an iced Tea mojito, it got better over time, or I got more drunk and thirsty. My friend got the twister which wasn't very good and another friend joined us who got the Dark and Stormy which was very tasty, it's pretty much rum over ginger beer and it was good!!
It's more of a bar for regulars, so when we walked in, we were stared at for awhile. The bartenders were friendly and described the drinks when we had questions. The people around us were frinedly and spoke to us with bar type conversations.
The good thing is that last call is at 2am and they don't make you leave until 2:30 so it's a cool place to go if you leave to the clubs early before closing or you have a late start on the evening. I would return and try the food and the Singapore Sling.
Also: Rise, an after hours club, is next door and all the guys in white tanks tops were happily going in there as we left. If I wasn't tired I would have checked it out.
This place seems to have a bit of an identity crisis - the ambience says casual and quirky restaurant, while the drink menu clamors for the serious attention of any alcohol-lover. I've been here twice - once for lunch with some co-workers, and another time for after-work drinks with friends.
Lunch: I had the Cubano panini, which was pretty solid, with a good proportion of meat and pickle. I had it with a side of the soup, which was roasted tomato at the time and WOW was it delicious and INCREDIBLY HOT. Of course it didn't help that I was starving and it took them awhile to serve the food, so when it came, I devoured it in spite of the burning sensation. A few of my co-workers got the Rowdy chicken sandwich, which is definitely the item on the menu with the biggest bang for your buck. It's ginormous.
Drinks: the waiter was exceptionally perky and attentive, which was a little strange because we just wanted to hang out and have a few drinks and talk with each other - not be constantly asked if we wanted food or more drinks or anything else. But he did automatically bring us waters in between our rounds of drinks, so at least someone was looking out for my liver? I had the Ginger Darling which was a little underwhelming, and then some beers. We also shared the garlic fries, which were pretty good.
Downer- as the sun went down it rapidly got colder, yet they still had their windows open and their front door propped, as well as the fans running. Just because it was an exceptionally warm October day does not mean we needed artic conditions indoors.
Flash's on the surface appears to be quite a nice place. The bouncer was friendly, the bar had a nice ambiance and my friends & I watched in astonishment as we saw the bar wenches pour towering shots.
Unfortunately my enthusiasm for the place hit the floor when we ordered our drinks. We all started the evening off with a "shot" that was served in a lowball glass. As I prepared for the typical wincing that accompanies such a shot of booze, I noticed my Jack Daniels looked a bit lighter than it typically does... I tossed it back and my worst fears quickly morphed into reality. THEY WATERED DOWN THE BOOZE.
Sorry folks, I don't have time for bars who make the business decision to water down booze. Perhaps if it was a military bar during wartime this would be acceptable, but if I toss a Hamilton on the bar I expect a real shot.
Skip.
So its the week before our wedding and we're trying to save money. However it is a saturday night and its very VERY hard to stay in and not drink. We checked the ever reliable YELP to find somewhere where we could get a couple of cocktails and some apps without dropping too much spondoolas and Flashs came up.
The Diablo fries were frigging delicious and her Calamari was great with an even greater dipping sauce. Plus 2 drinks each for only $40.
The cool atmosphere & furniture will make this a regular haunt of mine.
Sometime around 3 O'Clock in the afternoon I became famished, mistaking my boss for a large turkey drumstick. Didn't eat, finished work, still didn't eat, went to the gym, staggering with hunger. my girlfriend and i wandered Beacon Hill with gaunt faces and sunken eyes in search of a restaurant with less than 2 hours wait, we could not, so we kept walking. My peripherel vision faded into white and then i saw it. That beautiful Flash's sign. So, interesting, so bright, so old school. I knew I was in the right place. We walked in and I saw interesting art on the walls. There was a long community-esq type table, which reminded me of various beer halls outside of the States, which people sitting drinking talls boys no less. I ordered steak tips that were really good and cheap. The drinks seemed really expensive, though. We both had about a $10 meal and a drink a peice and then bill came to $40. Was that a $10 gin and tonic i just drank? I wish I would've known, I would've savored it a little more. Anyway, everything seemed to be going right. I was starving, price was basically right, cool sign, cool art, tall boys...but in the end, I felt no personality. The place seemed too sterile. Not even a bavarian picnic table can resuscitate a deadman.
AMAZING cocktails (I mean, they just taste awesome!)
Also, a Great selection of appetizers... I tried the spinach & artichoke dip with pita... (Apart from being a little on the salty side to get you to drink more, haha, it was the bomb).
The price is reasonable for the quality... The atmosphere is so/so... Mediocre Retro... With paintings of the backs of attractive women (the painter must have been a real creep, lol).
The one real downside: The bouncer and server were very snobby--I kept checking my party to make sure we were wearing appropriate attire, and everyone else in the place was dressed the same... so I have no idea why they acted like they wished we hadn't shown up, lol... But in their favor, they did warm up after we ordered.
Cocktail menu had both traditional offerings and a few exploratory recipes that looked interesting. Prices were reasonable for Boston, and the atmosphere wasn't too bad either. Good batch of customers here, although the tattoos were a little more common than other places in the area. Didn't try the food but there were some rather interesting menu options. Would definitely consider again.
I don't think a makers and diet should cost $10 and if it does, it should get me tanked. $7 is ok, but come on, really? that much? Especially when I ask for well bourbon, that shouldn't run me that high of a tab.
Could be a cool place, I am just put off by their wicked high drink price.
Has a lot of potential, big window/door things that make it feel like a patio. Music machine thingy, and seemed to attract some cougars. They made an impromptu dance floor and were tearing it up. Maybe i'll stop in if I want a beer, cause then I'll only pay 5 bucks for a drink.
Went here for an after wedding after par-tay.....but I was a little confused why they chose this place?
Is it a gay bar? Lesbian bar? I couldn't really tell....Only female bar tenders and servers....so that leans toward Lesbian....but then with music choices like Dancing Queen and I Will Survive....that leans toward gay bar, right? Hmmmm...and with a name like Flash's.....I don't know! I guess it is a hermaphrodite bar!!
Don't get me wrong, I love gay and lesibian bars. They are some of my favorite places to go, especially if there is dancing! But this place has no dancing....but they do have some sliders, that looked pretty tasty!! There was another party here last night, but all of the people were in their mid to late 50's....so again...kind of a hard bar to label, ya know??
And my rum and diet? It was $6.85. How random is that? Just make it $7 ha ha
It is nice that they have a big open windows, especially with the summer weather, but the staff here is not the nicest....and when there is a problem person, they freak out a little unnecessarily....
Let me preface this review with a fun fact about my trip to Flash's: This is where I witnessed my very first three-way lesbian kiss.
With that said, I liked this bar. No cover on a Friday, tons of beer, tasty food, in a totally come as you are kind of setting. Swanky without being too hip for its own good. Plus, judging by the clientele and the overheard conversations....it was a gay bar. Sweet!
They have an excellent selection of beer on tap and in the bottle. UFO hef was my brew of choice although I had to try the green monstah ale as we were still in our sox garb. That "just came from Fenway with friends" smell was potent in the air here, and I love that!
We decided to get some food because we are fatties! We got mini turkey burger sliders that came with a delicious cranberry mayo and of course an order of garlic fries. These were probably some of the best garlic fries i've ever had, but i'm a garlic fry whore. I'd give it up for any combination of fry style and amount of garlic. But, these were perfect, smothered in garlic chunks and a lemony tartness with a tinge of parsley. Loved 'em! The service was also excellent; the drinks came out so quick, it was like she could read my mind. -2 stars for the top 40 music that was on.... just unnecessary.
The minute my friend and I sat down at the bar at Flash's, the guy sitting to my right gave me his entire plate of fries.
That was my first five minutes at Flash's. Pretty good way to start things off.
I was there with the sole intention of watching my husband, Josh Beckett, so it was nice to see the large flat screen on the side wall and the smaller TVs above the bar. I got the veggie burger against my better judgement and something about it just didn't taste right. My drink order, the Heart of Darkness (whiskey, ginger ale and other good things) was perfect. That guys fries? Awesome.
And this might be random, but the hostess had a voice that was constantly in surround-sound. It would literally silence every other noise in the restaurant. It was like having someone sneak up behind you and blowing a foghorn in your ear. I don't even know if this is a critique, I'm just still impressed that someone can defy the sound barrier so consistently.
Good things about Flash's
+ awesome cocktails, Rocket Pops are my favorite...a childhood memory when the ice cream man drove by
+ Green Monsta ale- so good! so good!
+ friendly service. very attentive and really nice.
+ interesting crowd, all walks of life from the party of girls, 2 pals catching up, the after work crowd, and the regulars
+garlic fries
the one bad thing
-the one big flat screen has a mind of its own. it will turn off and on when it pleases. which then you have to resort to squinting your eyes trying to catch the score on the 2 small tvs above the bar
( i came here to watch game 6 of the Celtics and the Bullies- so i was a bit irked when the TV shut off- it did turn back on but a half hour later...)
overall, a really fun place for anyone. and if you are not interested in watching the local sports game, then you def have nothing to worry about.

Ok. I have to ask myself why I had NO CLUE this place existed until this week. I work so close I can be there in under 5 minutes. The bartenders were fun and friendly. I sit down next to my friend and I had a gin and tonic in my hands within moments. I wasn't even the slightest bit irritated at the $9 charge because it was definitely and ample size. That's what she said.
We order some of the turkey burger bites. How did I not know of these sooner? The mouthwatering meaty morsels that melt in your mouth (say that 3 times fast!) are irresistible. I totally need to try the quesadillas. Mmmm.
The after work crowd trickles in and out. The bars and tables are conducive to conversation and good times. And I like good times. A lot. I think I have a crush. I'll have to explore further and get back to you. This could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Look out Flash's, you don't even know what you've gotten yourself into!
Garlic fries and Summer Sangria were the perfect way to end a scorching hot day in the Bean.
Though they don't have a/c I barely noticed because of the bountiful, whirring ceiling fans. I also had a bleu cheese burger and get this: They melt the cheese over two criss crossed pieces of BACON and then top your burger off. Amaazzinnnggg.
So, definitely worth the 3,000 calorie jaunt, and that's saying a lot.
My name is Kristin, and I'm a Flash-a-holic. Admitting you have a problem is the first step, right?
After going to school in Back Bay for years, I finally started going to Flash's for after work/school cocktails and apps. I've introduced a few to the deliciousness that is their mac & cheese and pulled pork sliders and cocktails. Did I mention the extensive cocktail list? Because it's flippin' huge!
I feel like I'm going home when I go. The doorman remembers me, the bartenders are quick to offer a, "Hey darling/babe/baby, whatcha drinkin' tonight?" when you first walk in and sit at their bar, and the waitresses are all pleasant and friendly. Innovative cocktails concocted by their waitstaff as well as vintage recipes that are classics. Oh yeah, I dig 'em, and have made it my mission to try every single one.
This Flash-a-holic recommends: Nordic Nectar, Jaime's Jungle Juice, mac & cheese with bacon entree, regular fries & pulled pork sliders for apps.
Free french fries on some nights when it gets to be around midnight, woo!
Did I mention they have great cocktails?
Great appetizers, friendly staff and ok food.
The chicken wings and Diablo fries were phenomenal. The staff was young and trying really hard to be on top of things, and being on top of things for that matter.
The ambiance was good for a sunday night with just enough people to make the place feel comfortable.
I drink but my friends cocktail looked good.
More like a 2 1/2.
This restaurant is the direct catalyst for the depressing term "accountants body" aka a terribly pear shaped lower 1/2 usually stuffed into poorly sized khakis.
The food is alright but a little excessive (see: Rowdy Burger) for lunch. The service is good and it's nice when they open the windows.
I just can't understand why someone thought it was a good idea to eat garlic fries before heading back to the office. I am guessing it's the same person who thought it was a good idea to hang a painting of a wolfing sucking the teet of a naked woman holding a baby perhaps??
Late night...drinks are the bomb...vodka it up.
A year ago, this would have been a 4* review, but they've ruined their grilled brie sandwich. Let me tell you about a perfect union: toasted buttery brioche filled with gooey gobs of brie. Oh my god--one of the most amazing things I've ever eaten. Then, Flash's took it off the menu for a while. They've brought it back, but instead of mass amounts of brie, there is some sort of tomato-thing taking up space. Next time I went, I said, "No tomato-thing please," hoping they would go back to yummy-brie-levels. No such luck. For a $10 sandwich, skimping on the brie is unforgivable.
This place is really expensive, BUT there is good ambiance and great drinks.
FYI: Not a gay bar or lesbian bar, but nestled in the theatre district, they have a gay clientele (but also a business person after work clientele).
Kitchen open until 1am on a Sunday... say whaaaaaaaaaat?! Oooh such good thing to know if you're around in this area and hunger strikes you late night but you want something more edible than fast food!

Still a fan. But now that the weather is cooler...It's time to finish off the night with a Grasshopper. It's the perfect minty, ice creamy drink to finish off a tasty meal. It's smooth and delicious.
You will want to order dessert first!
P.S. If you go after work early in the week, the place will be pretty quiet. (A good thing if you're looking to catch up with friends.)
Oh, and service is wonderful, as always!

If you like bitchy service this is your place! Seriously they suck. I
'm sorry, but any bar that is empty on a friday and saturday night speaks for itself. Over priced martini's served by angry bitches is the reason this place is a ghost town nightly. Enter at your own risk!
I always seem to come here for charital purposes.Toys for children, save a boob, save a uterus, I am there and ready to win the raffle.
In the last year, I have walked out of here with a certificate for a free meal at the Prudential center, a ticket for skywalk, and 2 certificates for Converse sneakers.
I have also walked out with new found favorite drinks such as the "Wake Up Call" (a pineapple mojito) and the Sassy Boom Boom. I know their pulled pork sandwich is good and they have a great mac and Cheese. I am planning on trying their smoky tomato soup and brie grilled cheese next time I need to help save the planet, or at least a body part.
Last summer I stopped working on Beacon Hill and started working in Back Bay. Oh no, what am I going to do without 6B and The Last Hurrah?? Happy to say I have found my new after-work home. Decent crowd (or non-crowd if you're like me and like to grab a peaceful drink on a Monday with a couple girlfriends and without the crowd), good drinks, fabulous selection of drinks (stuff you wouldn't have thought of), decent staff, decent menu and service. Whoohoo!
Update 4/25/09: Still haven't had a bad time here. Love the calamari, steak tip salad, tuna melt and GARLIC FRIES. The garlic fries are my favorite thing! You will stink after you eat them but they are worth it!
Awesome drinks at good prices? Check. Ridiculously peppy and friendly waitstaff? Double check. Garlic Fries?? HELLZ YEAH!!!! Who needs ketchup when you can have a huge mountain of crispy fries smothered in garlic. Yeah, your date probably won't come near you and a bad case of gas could potentially level a city block, but totally worth it.
Most importantly the drinks are excellent and very reasonably priced at $7-$10. I'm more of a beer guy, but I have to say that I really enjoyed the Wake-Up Call; their version of a Pineapple Mojito. While not overly strong, it was quite refreshing. The girlfriend had a Lovey's Tall Tea, which had a slight peach tea flavor. A great Summer drink that's not too sweet.
The mini pulled pork sandwiches are also a good quick bite. They come three to a plate and an overload of BBQ sauce. It's a little excessive but tasty all the same.
I'll definitely have to come back to Flash's with the coworkers as it's conveniently located downtown. Hopefully nobody minds garlic breath.
Definitely a cool place in an otherwise pretty lame part of town. Love the sliders I ordered (I could eat sliders for days...) and the drink menu is lots of fun.
I would love to come here again if someone gave me an excuse to be in the area... or maybe I'll just wait for Daniel S. to roll back into town again one of these days.
Hiiiiiiiiyo! Name checked in at least four reviews and the cause of many others. You would think that I'm the mayor of this place or something.
I just wanted to reconfirm my love for Flash's. Right here. Right in the open where everybody can see it. Not only have they always consistently fed me, they've (albeit, unknowingly) hosted a grip of my "Daniel's Back in Boston" soirees. Once, I came back and told everybody to meet me at Stella instead of Flash's and NOBODY SHOWED UP. Since OBVIOUSLY, people would have been dying to see me, I can only imagine that not hosting it at Flash's created the confusion.
Flash's continues, in it's own perfectly bland and non-descript way, to be completely and utterly itself. A little straight, a little gay, a little sports bar, a little local burger joint, a little underwhelming, a whole lot friendly, but somehow, just right.
"Let us not say 'goodbye', but as the French have it 'au revoir'!"

I pose a riddle to you, the people of Yelp, the people of Boston-
Why is this place called Flash's?
The decor is not flashy. Neither is the food. You won't find a flashy wait or bar staff. The drinks aren't over the top. There's no man in a trench coat. And it's not like the service is lightening fast either. No strobe. No flickering light.
And personally, I see all of that as good. Great, in fact.
While not flashy, the comfort food menu is solid, winning me over time and again. This place has one of the best mac and cheeses I've had in Boston. The garlic fries are shoe string style, fried to perfection and covered in minced garlic. (if on a date, either both or neither of you should partake. just sayin) The chicken quesadilla was once described by a friend to be the best quesadilla ever. While it's very good, he was drunk so his opinion might be slightly skewed.
The wait staff is delightful. The bar staff is as well. The cocktail menu is longer than the food menu. With priorities in order, the quality of the cocktail again, is simple and well executed. Like I said, nothing flashy here. There used to be a lavender martini that I thought was absolutely amazing. Totally relaxing, and not just cause of the booze. Sadly it's been nixed, but with such a wide breadth of offerings, I don't find myself missing it too much.
The decor is simple and classic with a little bit of spunk and fun.
Weekend nights get loud and have a good crowd. Come earlier in the week to find plenty of open tables. It's a great place to wind down after work or wrap up a date.
You may not be flashy, Flash's - but I like you an awful lot.
Spinach and artichoke dip is good and the bar is fun for drinks. If you looking for booze and bar food this is as good a place as any. If your looing for a nice dinner head elsewhere.
FLASH'S COCKTAILS!
See, it's more fun if you say it like you're introducing it as a product on a home shopping network. C'mon people, the sign is NEON with a little martini on it. Ring a ding ding!
Moving on...
Flash's is one of the closest bars to my house, so my roommates and I frequent it a lot after work. It's never really crowded, although I don't normally get out of work until 7:30p and I hear it's more happenin' for the happy hour crowd. Still, the bartenders are friendly, the juke box is full and the drinks are cheap! I always get a dirty martini made with absolute pepper and it runs me about $7...and they make it right! My roommates always order one of their more fancy cocktails, and they are delicious, too. I don't eat here, so sorry, I can only talk about the booze. It seems like one of those places for regulars, but hey, you gotta start somewhere...
Flash's is my "staple" bar. I absolutely love it. It's the go-to for birthday parties or just drinks after work. Perfectly suitable to go out with friends or when out-of-town guests need a night out (my mom loves this place).
Extremely friendly staff, food is great (try the cupcakes... seriously).
Highly recommended!!!
I admit it. I went w/ Mary R. She's a bit harsher than I will be because we only ordered 2 things. We had looked at yelp on the way there and the garlic fries were commonly recommended. They had a soggy sort of consistency and the unique flavor got old pretty quick. The other appetizer we ordered was the turkey burgers. When I used to think of turkey burgers a few months ago, I'd probably think of a dry, but healthy burger. After eating the Four Burgers (see review) turkey burger, these were massively sub-par. I'd recommend getting something else...like anything else.
I'd definitely give Flash's another shot as they seemed to have a good ambiance and enough beer to keep me happy.
I went there with a friend of mine who is becoming a regular at Flash's. (Her school is right across the street.) And really had no idea what to expect other than a few drinks. I was very surprised at the nice look, the social atmosphere and the guy in the Yankees hat trying WAY to hard to score with a pair of ladies.
The Neon sign on both sides of the building is awesome and makes sure that you won't miss this place if you're looking for it. The two apps were very good. The garlic fries, will scare away anyone within 10 feet of you and the pull pork sliders were very good as well.
I'm getting old, and I'll be brief:
Good atmosphere but a bit loud
Jukebox good, but the place has bad acoustics so you can't really hear the songs.
TVs good. TVs showing Sox game, very good!
Drinks are good
Service is great
Bathroom has excellent TP but reaaaaaalllly tight squeeze in the non-handicapped stall.
Good food and friendly chefs actually go to your table to chat (not all tables but some)
Drinks are not crazy expensive.
I'd give this place 5 stars if they'd have more comfy seating, my back is killing me.
But, I'm old.
I have only recently discovered Flash's (thanks to Yelp), but I absolutely love it. Not too loud and plenty of places to sit and just hang out with friends. They usually have something on the TV as well.
The first time I went we had the most amazing server ever. Funny, attentive, willing to make great recommendations (the Mango drink during the month of May was the most outstanding drink I've ever had).
While there I've had or tasted:
Cheeky Cherry Tart
Blue Lagoon
Jungle Juice (amazing if you love tequila)
Grasshopper
Sangria
Dark and Stormy
Booty Call
and that Mango drink.
All well mixed and highly recommended! These might be a little fruity and sweet for people who like their alcohol straight...but for lots of fun and drinks that taste good, go to Flash's!
don't let the name fool you - this ain't a strip club. it's easy to tell, with the big windows, the bright lights and the lack of nekkidness inside.
it is an oddly shaped, reasonable bar with an eclectic drowd usually filling its tables. what else would you expect when a place is wedged equidistant from the rich, gay, touristy, and yuppie neighborhoods in town. for that it gets points if nothing else.
yet, it's painful to park near here, and the drinks aren't a bargain for sure.
I came out here to go to the Booze for Boobies event last night, and I was impressed by the place. They've got a variety of seating arrangements: bar stools, standard tables, a larger bench-based table, and even comfy, worn-in couches.
Food was good as well, with a nice combination of comfort foods, sandwiches, and salads. The brie grilled cheese was a little heavy on the bread, but the cheese was quite tasty. The beers were competitively priced (though I was a little perplexed that they charged per soda as opposed to free refills, but I've got nothing against it).
Overall, it seems like a nice place to go have a cold one, or to relax after work, or to grab a bite to eat.
