I planned to make a flan for my friends early Thanksgiving dinner but a late night out the day before and that plan was out the window, so I turned to Yelp for help. When the first listing of my flan search was for Flan King I remembered a friend raving about how good it was and quickly clicked on the web link.
Flan King sells flan at local farmers markets on Thursday, Friday and Sunday or with 24 hrs notice, will make and deliver (add'l charge) your flan to you. It was Saturday and I needed a flan in less than 4 hours; I was already thinking about a plan C when I called the phone number on the website to see if there was any chance they could help me out.
To my relief Greg answered the phone and quickly put my mind at ease. Knowing that I couldn't be too picky on such short notice I explained that I was looking for a pumpkin flan and preferably a banana flan. He told me what he knew he had left from the previous days market and offered to call me back after checking with the kitchen on what other flavors were available.
I got a call back about 10 minutes later, we finalized my order request for one pumpkin and one banana flan. Luckily, I live nearby so Greg gave me directions to pick up the flan. When I met him at the address he met me outside, handed me the flan, processed my credit card and I was on my way.
Everyone at the dinner loved the flan! It was really rich and creamy like the flan I remember having in Puerto Rico. The pumpkin tasted very much like pumpkin pie and the banana much like banana bread, sooo good.
Although tempted to take credit for the yummy, creamy goodness I had to sing praises of the Flan King for helping me out of a bind at the last minute, for providing friendly curb-side service and most importantly providing my with de-lic-ious flan to share with me friends!

Flan King, really? That's what i said till i tried some of this Flan. He calls himself the Flan King, so you know i had to try it. Call me picky but i don't just eat any Flan...if it's not made right, it gets no love from me. What can i say, this Flan is really, really good! It's hard to find good Flan out there, but he definitely knows what he's doing, i stand corrected. Great Job...

    Honorable Mention:  Banana Flan

    FLAN-tastic!

I really can't believe no one has said that one yet. I mean, that's the only Flan related pun I abuse.

Who doesn't like Flan? Besides being a delicious Mexican dessert it's also really fun to say  Flan, Flllaaaaaaaaaan, fffffffffffFlan! Say it out loud a couple of times and you'll see how awesome it is to say.

So walking by this booth during Art Walk I saw the board that said "Best flan! don't believe me - read these yelp reviews" with printed reviews under it. That sort of sealed it for me.

Well, that and the possibility that this review itself will potentially be on the board for future sales pitches. How meta would that be? A review on the board of reviews within the review(did I blow your mind?).

The flan.. is amazing. Freaking Amazing. While I normally like saying Flan when I see it on the dinner menu, I thought that I had eaten more than my fair share of Flan in my upbringing that I never really felt the need to get more of it. After trying the Flan King's, I want more and I want it now.

Tasty on all levels. The little foil container it comes in is also cute. You really can't go wrong with this chilled flan that sort of just melts away when you dig your spoon into it. The price is pretty good for something this rich and creamy.

If you're lucky enough to cross paths with the Flan King, bow down and pay your respects to royalty and you may enjoy some delicious dessert.

Is this stuff good for you? Proooobbbbaaalllyyy not. BUT IT'S FINE, the servings are small (but fulfilling) so it doesn't matter!

I found FlanKing and Greg (the owner) at the Larchmont Farmers Market, he's a great hardworking guy. I'm eating his flan as I type this and it's really freakin' awesome. It's thicker than what I'm used to since my grandma used to make this for every family party, but i think I like it this way.

Super flavorful and pretty cheap for the quality of product that you get. Pure satisfaction in a cute tin cup. I brought home the original/plain... but he has about 5 other flavors i think.

Support this guy, it's a good thing for LA.

"I don't always eat flan, but when I do, I prefer Flan King."

Forget what you know, or what you think you know, about the traditional Spanish dessert called Flan. Just read the review. No whining about how you don't like flan, or even if you do, none of your friends do, so what's the point?  I don't know many people who like flan either. Have you ever had your friend say, oh man, "I'm really craving some goopy custard that tastes like I belong in the hospital because it could come through a straw right about now"?

No. Which is why you should order from Flan King when the situation calls for it, and (even when it doesn't). Move outside your comfort zone and order one of these babies. They deliver - literally and figuratively. Creamy, sweet, and not jello-like at all, you will have all the flan-haters claim they actually really like it. The big trick is getting them to stop eating it after you tricked them into eating it in the first place.

I ordered one of these for my boss's going away party to go along with the Margaritas and Chips & Salsa & Guacamole theme. The Flan King (or one of them) brought it over the hill and assured me I could flip the thing myself. Doubtful, I need a sippy cup at work to minimize (notice how I didn't say prevent) spills. True to form, the King was right, I flipped and served no problem. Big Flan, classic caramel flavor, big hit. It was all gone at the end of the party.

If you don't think you can commit to a full flan, or want to try their other flavors, check out their booth at the Hollywood Farmer's Market.

Yes, they've already got a tagline ("Give your tastebuds the royal treatment(tm)"), but I still think mine is better:

Even people who hate flan love Flan King.

I'm a fan, both of flan and the King (full disclosure: we worked together in a previous, non-flan-related life), and have been for some time. I give Flan King flans for various holidays, as hostess gifts and client thank-yous, and every time, I order one for my piggy, piggy self!

There's something in there that is insanely addicting. (Sorry--even though he's a good friend, The King won't tell me what.) The King's recipe was handed down by the ladies on his Puerto Rican mother's side and MAMACITA, those ladies were magicians.

You can try out a small one for yourself. If you hit him up at an area farmer's market (he's at several in L.A., including the big, Hollywood one starting March 30th), first taste is free.

But be forewarned: once you've tried it, there's no turning back!

Very nice staff at the LAMC (Kaiser) farmer's market. I passed this booth up for a couple months and then finally taste tested their infamous flan.

Creamy and smooth, just the way I love my flan. Not many people can make it this way. Most taste like creamy jello, but you won't get that here. My roomie said she never liked flan, but I convinced her that this was probably unlike any flan she has had before. No kidding, she ate half of a flan I brought home and asked me to buy another.

BAD for your health (calories galore) but OH SO GOOD!
Keep it Yummy Flan King. We will meet again if I have my way...

While my friend claimed to be "no flan expert," she raved about the Flan King from the Farmer's Market.  I was excited to try the original and banana flans that she brought to book club since they sounded legendary. Perhaps my expectations were too high though, because I didn't quite understand the big to-do. Yes, the flan was yummy, but not necessarily more so than any other flan I had tried before.

Perhaps the most off-putting part for me was the consistency.  This flan was literally as hard and thick as cheese.  In fact, I took a slice of cheese from the plater and a slice of flan and ate them side by side to compare.. yep, same consistency! My other friend, the Cheesecake lover, didn't mind this at all. But flan, my fellow sweet-teeth, should have a whisper of lightness, a hint of a jiggle, a bubble of laugher somewhere in there. The Flan King's version, however, was impenetrably unyielding. It took no prisoners.

Someday I'll have to tell you about the flan at LaLa's on Melrose. Now that custard treat is one for the record books!

Previous poster is right: even those of us who don't generally care for the sliminess of flan love the Flan King.  I never knew flan could taste so good, that its texture could be so rich and creamy.  I sampled the regular version at the Hollywood Farmer's Market.  Normally I would have passed it up, but these guys are friendly.  I think it was their first week there, and I remember reflecting that if flan were completely removed from the universe, like if it had never existed, I wouldn't bat an eye.  I tried the thing, and it blew my gourd.  I am now a regular purchaser of regular and marble flavors.  Harold Flan, inventor of the dessert, would have been proud, had he not drowned in an incident involving cream, a vat, and three young ladies from Des Moines (note: not a flan-related incident).

Now, I would march straight into battle for flan, namely that of the Flan King.  I am sworn to protect their product from evil-doers who think flan feels like slimy slugs going down the ol' gullet.  It's AMAZING.

Awesome flan, bar none!  We get to hang with our Burbank friends twice a year and it usually involves treats from the Flan King!  I'd have to say his flan beats anything I've had either home made, store bought or obtained at a restaurant.  If I had a Mexican grandmother, I'd bet his flan would be even better than hers!

So, I roll into work one morning and notice that the counter top in the kitchen has a line of pie tins on it.  I go closer to inspect, only to find that there are like ten flans ready to be eaten!  Yes!
I tried:  Original, mocha, chocolate, coffee, sweet potatoe, marble, and one or two other kinds (don't remember, it was an overwhelming experience).  All of the flans are amazingly delicious, but the best one EVER was the marble.  It is rich, but not sickeningly sweet, and the flavor combinations pair nicely.  I had a tablespoon of each and then I was full for like 4 hours.  The egg in the flan really fills you up!  Oh, and the sugary juiciness at the bottom is pure goodness.  SOOO delicious!

Forget every other flan you've tasted and give this a try. Still haven't figured out quite how the Flan King make the ingredients come together in such a magical way, but he really does. Here's the kicker -- I'm not typically a big fan of flan, but this recipe is a game-changer. It's by far the best flan I've ever had, and a formidable rival to other kinds of desserts. Brownies, Cakes and Pies, consider yourself warned!

I didn't know I even *liked* Flan before having Flan King.  Now I crave it.  Sooooo wish these guys had a store front!  They are the reason I stop at farmers markets in L.A. even when I don't need anything.  It's the richest, creamiest, most decadent flan everrrrrr.  It's thick and unlike any other flan I've had.  Try a sample if you see these guys at a farmer's market!  Make sure you have some cash on you, too.

Flan King wants to keep me from fitting into my wedding dress.
Or so it seems with the way the flan calls to me at the farmer's market. I should be over choosing which stall I want to buy my organic broccoli from, but instead I'm lured in by the promise of the greatest custard ever. I love custards of all kinds, but often find flan to be kind of droopy and disappointing. Not so with Flan King. This flan is thick, rich, and creamy with just the right balance of caramel to custard. There's something uniquely wonderful about this flan. I don't know if coconut is usually involved in flan, but it's listed in the ingredients, so maybe that's what puts it over the top from great to orgasmic.
At the farmer's market the booth even has a misting machine which cooled me down on a hot Sunday. The first time I was offered a free sample, I looked at the guy selling the flan and said, "Well I mean, I pretty much have to buy one." I could eat the medium sized one by myself everyday if it weren't going to give me heart disease and a huge ass. It's that good. Get some. Now. Take one to the next dinner party you're invited to. You will be invited back.

"Psst, hey kid, wanna taste of flan?  first one is freeeee..."

Flan King is like the drug pushers they warned you about in grade school.  First taste is free.  You love it so you buy a small one to eat after lunch.  The next week you go back to the farmer's market and get a small one "to share" even though you eat half of it in the car.  Pretty soon you're hitting multiple farmer's markets per day, wolfing down spoonfuls of flan while crouched behind a crate of organic tomatoes.

I've only recently just discovered them at the Hollywood Farmer's Market.  A definite two thumbs up!  I usually get the small ($5), which is not to be confused with the $3 individual size.  I really like their banana flan and their coffee flan (two separate flavors).  I've had samples of their mocha and their marble, but my favorite is still the banana!  I heard flan is easy to make and have had homemade versions before, but this one is by far the best homemade version I've had!  I wish I could find flan this good closer to me, but until then, I'll be visiting the Flan King again for sure!

you know how when you go to a farmer's market they give out samples and then you feel obligated to purchase because a happy purveyor of food stuffs is standing there smiling at you?

i hate that feeling of obligation so much. i feel awkward. i usually avoid taking samples unless i am already convinced that i want whatever it is that i am about to sample.

now imagine my stress when i am standing a few feet away from the flan king and he calls over to me and offers me a sample... damn. i don't even like flan. but i take it because he has a really nice face. and wow. it is sooo good. really creamy and rich and amazing. the flan itself is good and doesn't rely so heavily on the sauce. honestly THE best flan i've ever had and living in florida for ten years i had a lot of it.

find him at the farmer's market! i bought mine at the farmer's market in echo park and i did not want to share it with ANYONE.

This is the best Flan I have ever had! I've had friends tell me that they don't like flan and after one bite, they are asking for the number to the Flan King. The price is great, presentation is wonderful, the people are kind and it just doesn't get any better than this. Flan King is doing farmers markets now, lucky for us because this flan is addicting! I love it, love it, love it!
