A few times a year there is an event to celebrate, to splurge on - in Boulder one thinks of TFH. I have been there for weddings, small groups, large groups, and table-for-two evenings. The view is wonderful at night, and you get what you expect for the price in terms of food and wine selection - but the staff always leaves me cold (agree also with nick w's review). Rare to find a human being as a server, and often the manager is harried and stressed, which rubs off on the vibe in the room and, I suppose, the servers. If you aren't sensitive to the overall vibe of the place, you'll love it.
I am one of those people that you either love or hate to go out to eat with; I'm a supertaster (I have more tastebuds per square inch than most people) and a serious foodie, y'see. I have a 'relationship' with the food that I eat, and it can be an intense one. Especially when the food is exceptional.
This food is exceptionally exceptional. I went here with my parents to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday, so of course we really went all-out with the menu. The sommelier was fantastic, he managed to find one bottle of wine to pair with ALL of our main courses, and recommended individual drinks that would complement our other courses individually.
They are daring and bold in their food -- I had a prickly pear sorbet as a palette-cleanser whose flavor I can still remember clearly and precisely. This was 3 years ago.
The view is unbelievable, too -- it's up on Flagstaff Mountain overlooking the entire city. Go at night, and be treated to a beautiful light show of the town through the large picture windows.

Just Incredible! I have been hearing about it for years and it is the finest food ans best service I have had in over 20 years living in Colorado. Gorgeous views, impeccable service, several sommeliers on hand to help you choose from the gigantic, tabbed, indexed wine list. I was impressed that they didn't try to talk me into a more expensive bottle of wine. Had amazing venison tenderloin and seared ahi and prawns. The sauce was so good I had to resist licking the plate. This dinner for two did set me back $250 with a $50 bottle of wine, but an extravagant dinner was worth it. I have spent similar amounts in Denver and left disappointed. Romantic too - try this place.

The Best In Boulder for a fine dining experience.
I have been coming to this restaurant for decades and the whole experience never, ever disappoints for the price tag.
EXCELLENT wine list and sommelier that really does know what he is doing and his wines.
Menu always has some distinct treats for you.
Service is impeccable. Be sure to study up on table manners ; ) or you will have a moment like Ferris Bueller.. and they will not believe you are the sausage king of Chicago :)
The views are stunning - this place will surely remain a stable of Boulder.
BTW they do offer dessert service in the summers on the patio below.. very romantic.

Must go place in Boulder, especially when someone else is footing the bill. The pan seared foie gras is amazing. I had the duck which was pretty good, but I think the steak looked much yummier. The desserts are much larger than what you normally get at high end restaurants, and we were way too full already so most of it went untouched. Amazing views too
My Colorado friend, Mark Storm, could not stop raving about this restaurant, and based on all of the reviews, the place had high expectations to live up to. I was very disappointed when I could not bring my wines to the restaurant, but that disappointment quickly evaporated.
Flagstaff is in my Top Five dining experiences of all time. I have been fortunate to dine at several 3 Star restaurants in Paris, and the better restaurants in NYC and SF, so Flagstaff taff personally for me, surpasses some highly revered dining establishments.
The seared foie gras was incredible. The dish included two decent sized portions, and the taste took me back to Paris. I unknowingly closed my eyes with the initial bites, and just savored the smooth velvety flavor.
The NY steak, Buffalo Filet Mignon, and the rack of lamb were all great. I nibbled on my fellow diners plate.
The wine list was very extensive, and they received the coveted Wine Spectator's Grand Award, which is given to only ten establishments annually. From what I understand, one of the criteria for the award, is the dollar value of the wine cellar. I have never seen such a huge selection of Chateau Mouton Rothshilds, which probably contributed tremondously towards the award's revenue requirement. Our first bottle was a Chateau Montellena cabernet, and I was also impressed with the restaurant's huge selection from this winery.
During the daytime, the decor is average, but the place becomes magical in the evening. The view of Boulder from the top of this mountain really adds to the dining experience.
Maybe the fantastic cabernets impaired my judgment, maybe my good friend and his charming wife kept me entertained, or maybe my beautiful date just put me into a great mood, but I really found the dining experience, very memorable.

Best restaurant I have ever been to. Ever. We've been more times than we can afford because it's that good. The view is amazing but the food is even better... wow! We've been for a wedding (what a neat ceremony/reception site), anniversary dinner, Valentines dinner, and a couple " just-because-we-really-really-want-to-eat-at -the-Flagstaff" dinners. Now that we live in Seattle we miss the Flagstaff dearly!
Grab your wealthiest friends and your wine translator before making the trek to this elegant, candlelit, glass-walled restaurant in Boulder nestled at the base of the scenic Flatirons. The view of the Boulder lights below is definitely a command perfomance, but the contemporary Colorado cuisine, with an emphasis on Rocky Mountain game, also wins raves. But, really, it's the remarkably long worldbook of wine boasting nearly 2,000 bottlings that makes blowing your wallet through the roof worth the splurge.
I took a customer here and was ableto get a reservation the same day. The appetizers and main courses were creative and excellent. The view of the valley below was enjoyable and the service was very attentitive. The sommelier's recommendations were right on the mark.
Only mishap was the one of the appetizers was supposed to have lobster but there was none. The kitchen sent out lobster as a second dish.
Flag Staff is pricey, it was over $400 for two.
The most expensive restaurant in Boulder. Signature dish is the rack of lamb. Tell them it's your birthday. They have a for-real sommelier. Bone up on proper use of silverware and plates before you go. Lots of staff so service is always good. But lordy, bring your credit card.
I love this place - great views, great wine, and good food.

Boulder's attempt at a world-class restaurant tries hard and comes close, but comes up just short. An amazing wine list that offers something for everyone. A creative menu with enough options to please most people, but limited enough to allow them concentrate on a few dishes. The staff tries hard, but sometimes come across like teenagers impersonating adults - they mostly know what to do, but it's forced and they have small slips. Overall, a great (and beautiful) place to have a special meal.

I have eaten here once. My wife and I had the best meal we ever had. The food was amazing. The service was perfect. The views from this restaurant could not be better. The only downside was the price - we spent over $300. But what is money after all.
The wine list is extensive, but not if you are into cheap bottles.
Their menu is full of standard dishes that you would expect at a top-end restaurant and the two that we had were wonderfully done. You will not find many experimental dishes that you get from the more creative chefs at many Boulder restaurants such as L'Atalier or the specials at 14th Grill
