I took a car I was looking to buy to Jimmy at Fix Car Now for a pre-sale inspection. He has a great personality and a way of breaking things down so you understand them. He went over the car pretty thoroughly and walked me through the pros of buying the car as well as the things I would need/want to fix. He gave me a laundry list of everything that needed to be done to the car and even gave me advice on negotiating the price down based on his experience.
In addition, he was very honest about prices, what he would charge for particular items (he only gets manufacturer's parts though) and labor versus other places. Sometimes he charged more, sometimes less. You have to weigh your options and I don't have a problem paying a little more to have someone I trust do the work. It also helps that this place has pick up and drop off service if you live in downtown L.A. They can pick you or your car up!! Which makes things very convenient when you have a time-consuming career.
I witnessed Jimmy with another client as well and he insisted on showing her what he'd done, swapped out, etc.
So in the end, I got my first car at a great deal thanks to Jimmy's advice. I'm going to bring the car to him to make all the changes he recommended. I'll review again once I actually get work done on the car (that is why 4/5 stars for now). Also, haven't worked with any of the folks Jimmy employs - and that is also a testament to a shop, so we'll see how that goes. Until next time, give it a shot...
I finally got the window checked out and repaired. My friend was in the passenger seat, lowered the window and it it failed to go up again. My regular mechanic recommended that I get a used part from a chop shop over in Glendale. It worked out really well, paid $125 for a working regulator and motor. The sales guy in Glendale told me that it was a complicated job to replace it. It is actually a lot of work to repair the regulator and motor. It took my mechanic two hours to install it for $80, cool guy that he is after hearing about the history of the always non-functioning window.
The clowns here at FixCarNow, claimed to have replaced it with a new motor twice. It has never worked properly. My belief and experience tells me that the people at FixCarNow never did it. The owner / manager probably doesn't know because he's one of those that likely does all the managing and none of the work. I am not impressed by this place. Downgraded again to one star for never replacing my motor, while charging me for a new one. Good thing I didn't take these jive turkeys' "recommendation" to check the wiring for $80 an hour.
Also, please ask your guys to not eat their lunch in my car, thank you. Leaving empty soy sauce packages behind is pretty disgusting. I saved the "new motor" for ya all, in case you want to give me back my $500, minus the window glass charge.

Great customer service. Located in the Capital Group building, on Bunker Hill, the corporate folks… Read more »
I'll make this quick.
I called their number and told them I needed to get my oil changned at the Downtown location. He said no problem and that they would get me in and out quickly. SO.....I drive over there, but low and behold they dont work at that location on Friday, so I had wasted my time on a work day and it cost me $4 to get out of the lot. No bueno
Jimmy (the owner) at Fix Car Now is great. The service was impeccable, from the second I picked up the phone and placed a call. Over the phone, Jimmy patiently walked me through the problems I'd noticed in my car, quoted me some prices and told me to come on in the next day, giving me extremely detailed directions on how to find his place. (it's actually really easy if you just listen to him and do exactly what he says.) When I got to the shop, Jimmy listened closely to the noises I'd noticed, and took care to really get a good feel for how the car drove.
Turned out that I'd need new spark plug wires (mine were cracked and causing a misfire) and catalytic converter. But, rather than try to rip me off by telling me I needed new plugs or needed to immediately replace my converter, he was up-front and honest with me. I really believe that another mechanic would have told me I needed brand new plugs (which I didn't, because I'd just replaced them four months ago and had conferred w/ my last mechanic about what had been done -- I get really nervous w/ mechanics, I'm always scared they'll rip me off.) or that I needed a new $1200 converter the next day.
When my car was ready, Jimmy actually came to pick me up and took me back to the shop, showed me the old, torn wires and walked me step-by-step, again, through everything he'd done. Taught me about misfiring and the effect of misfiring on my catalytic converter, also.
Prices were a little high, I'm going to be honest. An oil change (incl. replaced filter) shouldn't run more than 20 bucks for a dinky vehicle like mine - I paid $25. And replacing spark plug wires is a relative easy 10-15 minute process which should run about $60-75, but I paid a little bit more. My total bill came to $160, including taxes, to replace the wires, tighten up my belts and do an entire oil change. A little on the high side, but with such excellent service, totally and completely worth it.
I would recommend Jimmy's Fix Car Now to anyone, but especially girls who are convinced they are going to get ripped off because of past bad experiences. Even if it is an extra $20-30 than what you could have gotten it for otherwise, the convenience of having everything taken care of in one day, PLUS having a ride to/from work, is invaluable.
Work in the Wells Fargo Building and I find them convenient, courteous, honest and reasonably priced. Seriously!
now not a fan at all. over priced - and they work in the dark.
tried to up sell me on crap i know i didnt need.

Jimmy is unbelievably nice. I've onlly had small things done to my car, at Fix Car Now, i.e. oil change, tune up. Each time I've gone, I get a $5 off coupon for an oil change, which is great.
The customer service is great, and I don't feel like Jimmy gives me any BS. He just does what I ask, and doesn't try to up-sell on other items like the fuel injection, or blah blah blah needs to be done.
I drop off my car in the morning (no appointment necessary), and I pretty much let them know when I'm off of work, and it's done, when I'm ready to go home.
There was one time, where I dropped my car off in the morning, and let them know I was off at 6pm. However, throughout the morning, I started to develop a headache, and I had to go home sick. I called the Fix Car Now people, and asked if my car would be able to be done a little quicker. They totally accomodated me, and my car was ready by noon. Thanks, guys!
I was talking to Jimmy one of the times that I dropped it off, and let him know how much I appreciate them being in the building. Jimmy said that their motto used to be, "Giving you back your Saturdays." That is definitely me!
STAY AWAY!!
The owner, Chance, just pulled a bait and switch on me. All for a lousy $30. I've been a loyal customer since 2006 mainly out of convenience.
They told me I needed an air filter and it would cost $25. Then they said I needed a "special oil filter" but they wouldn't change me more than what they quoted. Then they installed it and wanted an additional $30 afterwards.
Total horsecrap!!!
I've spent close to a thousand dollars with them over the last two years. And this is the way they treat me? I'll never use them again.
STAY AWAY!!!
