I met Louise over five years ago when I hired her to assist in developing our company SOP Manual. She was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and was a big part in our company taking the next step. Since then, we have grown from 4 locations to 18 now.
The fact that Louise has experience in all aspects of the restaurant industry, from washing dishes, to lease negotiations, to selling restaurants makes her service incredibly worth the investment.
Actually, neither am I or my GF members of the industry whatsoever, as Ms. Dawson contends. I am also not sure why she doesn't actually respond to my specific concerns about conflicts of interest. I and the GF were taking a couple of courses at the SBDC (I had an interest in making a pie emporium). Ms. Dawson was teaching a course and recommending a colleague of hers at Five-Star. This is directly in violation of the SBDC's by-laws and CA non-profit covenants. Apparently, we were not the first to complain. Anyway, our subsequent interactions with the those recommended at Five-Star were very unsatisfactory, thus the negative review.

I have been working with Louise at Five Star closely for the past year. She has been extremely knowledgeable and supportive while guiding me through the difficult process of opening up a bar in this city. My partner and I were in contact with her from day 1 and have been given excellent counseling in all areas from funding, to permits, to contractors, to real estate. She has 100% of my trust, and will always be just a phone call away for any of my myriad questions big or small.
I've been working on opening a bar for about a year now and Louise has been extremely helpful through every step of the process. It's pretty clear that Five Star are the complete insiders when it comes to SF restaurant and bars...they seem to have a finger in every pie.
Once the space was found she thoughtfully laid out all my options with regards to reasonable offer and what to expect in escrow. ...and she did it with a cheery optimism that is very helpful during such a stressful process.
She takes all my calls (you know how rare that is if you've been at this for any length of time!!) and gives my as much time as I need. I can't tell you how glad I am that I found them.
I worked w/ Louise personally and know first hand that she knows her stuff. I do not know who wrote, maliciously so, the above review, but that is definitely not my experience. She was very professional, very knowledgeable, and always encouraging and supportive. I highly recommend Louise for all the reasons I stated above.
It would be a true shame if someone actually believed the previous comment b/c my experience was tremendously useful and very helpful. Especially as someone who never had experience in the business, Louise's experience and professional approach was extremely valuable and useful.

Louise Dawson is the principal of Five Star Restaurant Consultants. She has owned and operated two successful Bay Area restaurants and a large catering company that specialized in the movie industry.
After selling her last restaurant in 2004, she was asked to help launch a restaurant program, at the San Francisco Small Business Development Center to provide seminars and education for startup restaurateurs as well as one-on-one consulting services.
In 2007, Louise launched Five Star Restaurant Consultants to be able to provide more hands-on services to restaurateurs. Louise is an operations specialist and can provide systems such as inventory or food costing to help restaurants be more profitable.
Five Star also owns a convention called Restaurant Bootcamp. This is a one day symposium geared with seminars and networking - aimed at the startup and the existing restaurateur.
