Review Highlights
I always wait until the last minute to buy kid's birthday presents because:
1.) I know I'll find the perfect gift at Five Little Monkeys
2.) They open at 9 on Saturday morning
3.) They gift wrap for free
4) I know that when the birthday kid's mom sees that our present is from Five Little Monkeys she knows she can easily exchange it (without a receipt)
5.) It's central enough that swinging by won't make us that much later than we usually already are.
Also, there is a play table that my son can entertain himself with while I look around, and the staff seems to enjoy that the kids are having a good time at the play table. It's a happy place to be and to shop. Totally worth five stars.
I love this store. It does not have the typical ho-hum commercial selection of toys you find at Toys R Us and other places. Even as an adult, you will be fascinated looking around the store. Spied a wooden tricycle that was well made. I bought a kite and they had a good selection of inexpensive ones. The store is neat and organized and the sales people know their merchandise and are courteous. Parking is unfortunately on the street but if you go around the block a few times, a slot often opens up.
Now, what does a 67 year old woman want with a kite? Took a 87 year old friend to the North Beach area of Pt. Reyes to fly a kite and also have a picnic. It was great fun and the sturdy winds at North and South Beaches get your kite up pretty easily.
Do not think of Five Little Monkeys as a store just for kids. It is a store for kids of all ages, including yourself. When is the last time you bought your favorite uncle a toy- perhaps something he enjoyed as a child. Consider a toy for an adult recovering in the hospital. I have a friend recovering from a stroke working with large Lego blocks on a bed tray with sides. They provided fun and also good PT. Why not also chose something just for yourself?
What a fun store! My friend just a had a little baby girl so I wanted to get a present for the baby and her son. I wanted to make sure that the son wasn't forgotten after the oohing and aahing over the new addition to the family.
I have to admit that I wanted some of the toys for myself! Yes, I'm a kid at heart but I settled on a lego car for the son and these super cute stuffed animals of a pig and a lime green stegosaurus for the baby girl.
They do a complimentary gift wrapping which saved me time of buying wrapping paper and then actually wrapping it myself. The customer service was super nice. My only complaint is that it was hot and stuffy inside.
I came in here today for stocking stuffers and ended up with a few cool and reasonably priced tchotchkes that I think my son and Gayle will like.
The store is not as big as Mr. Mopps in Berkeley, but it does have a nice selection of toys and a great neighbourhood feel. Best of all, my fellow customers and the store staff were all in good spirits, even though we were all crowded in with our Holiday rush activities. And it was a real pleasure to avoid the hordes at Toys R Us, and of course buy locally.
I also tried without success to locate 'Power Rangers Jungle Fury' figures for fellow Yelper Gary E., who was instructed to get these toys by "any means necessary". So what's wrong with leaning on your Yelp buddies to avoid a trip to the Dog House (or worse)?
Oopppsss.....I meant to get this in BEFORE Christmas. I found two puzzles for gifts and they wrapped them for free in cute paper with a pretty bouquet of ribbon curls. They actually offer free gift wrap all year round.
Even though it was kind of a madhouse the few days before Christmas the staff was still patient and helpful!
I called them a few days later for a friend who was looking for two toys.
I only knew how to describe them but the clerk patiently listened to me describe the toys and then told me the correct names for them. She then checked the store and the storeroom to see if they had any left. Unfortunately they were sold out. Kudos to them for their friendly service on the phone and in person.
The only problem is that my official kid is an old teen so the toys I buy are mostly from "big kid" me!
And did I forget to mention they have a fantastic play area? There is a house set up and lots and lots of toys to play with and they have a Thomas the train layout. I'll have to bring my friends' kids here so I can play too!

This store keeps getting better and better! Even though my main kid is no longer a kid I still have… Read more »
1st, 2nd, 3rd birthday party? No problem. They have sumptin' for you here. 4 syllables = ah-dor-ah-blay. Freaking adorable.
A cute little toy store that is packed with goodies for both boys and girls. My daughter loves the little playhouse in back, and the vast selection of dolls and doll furniture. My son enjoys looking at all the massive lego sets.
You'll find a great variety of toys here, some new, some classic, and mostly unique. We're lucky to have 5LM and Mr. Mopp's in the area.
I stopped in this cute little store to find a gift for my friend's 3 year old daughter. I found a very cool little "rag-type" doll that was all organic and quite unique. They seem to have some other unique items as well as some old standbys, but nothing too obvious or typical. I'm sure you can find something for most kids here. It's pretty cute and the employee that dealth with me was great and did a wonderful job wrapping my item. I do recommend you take a peek when your in the market for a child's toy. If only Adult Toy Stores were so kick-ass.
Pedipeds for $28.
Playtables set up for kids to play all throughout the store.
A little corner gated off with a play kitchen and stuff also keeps the kinder penned in while you browse.
They had exactly what my husband wanted to buy - a wooden toolbox with wooden screws and hammer, etc.
This is the cutest little toy shop. Service is friendly and helpful but not overwhelming. There is a ton of stuff to play with and discover. TIt's a litte boutique but the prices are competitive with Toys-R-Us. Why wouldn't you shop here? They even wrap the gifts for free!!! I always stop here and across the street at Solano Kids...
If you are looking for something different from the typical battery operated piece of chinese made plastic, this is the place.
Awesome toy store for kids of all ages...from 2 months to 102. The best place for all your gift giving needs! For real, just the thought of walking into a Toys R Us gives me seizures. Lots of wooden toys, instruments, trains, dolls, books, trikes, books, toys that foster learning and creativity. Oh, and they have the BEST bubbles ever made...Pustefix!
All I really need to tell you is that I have the birthday party present thang figured out, and it's all because of Five Little Monkeys.
Can't tell you how many times I've called them 1 hour before party time and told them the age of the child, what s/he is into, how much I want to spend... they give me a couple of choices, pronto, I choose, equally pronto, and tell them what time I'll be by.
Throw fruit of my loins in their carseats, park in front of Five Little Monkeys, run in (leave said fruit in the car--- NEVER, EVER take a kid into a toy store when you are in a hurry; consider NEVER, EVER taking a kid into a toy store, period), pay for gift and pick it up COMPLETELY WRAPPED even WITH A BOW (so there, Barnes & Noble with your cheap-ass paper and sticker wrapping)!!!
And if you're not into getting toys, they have a lot of books and puzzles. If the kid you're buying for is a fan of Thomas the Tank Engine, there's plenty of that as well and Legos, too.
Stuff for babies as well.
PLEASE NOTE: They've just moved down the street to the corner spot- MUCH, MUCH BIGGER (it's where Sweet Potatoes was...)
This clean and very organized store is a kids' dreamland. From collectible erasers to pogo sticks this place is neat from the inside out1
For the little monkey(s) in your life... Cute stuff, wide variety.
At first, I was a bit turned off by the cacophony... not of little kiddies running around, but the store clerks actually. I stumbled upon one store clerk yapping away on her cell phone (and none so discreetly) in the back of the store, and then the other two clerks were gossiping away at the front. Frankly, it's hard to shop with all that noise. However, I was eventually won over by the goodies I found, the complimentary gift wrapping, and how quickly they got through the long line that had suddenly developed. Being the green business that they are, they even asked me if I needed a bag! So refreshing, as I am used to store clerks giving me a puzzled look whenever I tell them that I don't need a bag or that I brought my own bag.
This is a fantastic toy store! My husband and I came here together and spent like an hour playing with everything and ended up buying some small things--they have a great variety of high-quality toys. It totally made us want to have kids sooner!
This is truly a wonderful toy store! I love it here and my son loves it as well! They have a huge selection of all different toys for many ages. The store is beautifully organized and the staff is always very helpful.
Five Little Monkeys is also a great place to get gifts and they will wrap it for you for free!
I would much rather shop here then Toys R Us anyday!
I go there once every 2 weeks. I'm a 32 year old kid and the stuff at this place has something for everyone. I enjoy getting the joke stuff and using them on my wife. So if she yelps this store she would probably give it a low rating......Just a warning
Cute little place right on the corner of Solano at Talbot, a stone's throw away from Cornell Elementary. Great variety of toys for such a small store; I liken this store vs. Toys R'Us to the equivalent of Natural Grocery vs. Lucky/Safeway. The store is small but has an excellent variety of toys for babies and kids of all ages. There's a nice costume section in the back as well. I was there shopping for a gift for my 3-month-old niece (cousin's daughter) and decided to buy the 'linky rings - 4 monkey-faced objects with arms for linking to one another'. It was cute, but I ended up shelling out about $16 (including tax) for it. From my perspective, many of their prices were a bit on the high side in relation to what I'm used to, because I try to shop cheaply. That being said, they do have items under $10. Also, one of the workers told me about the "green" efforts of this business and the toys certainly looked to be high-quality. Given this, and the size of the store, I guess it makes sense paying a higher price for better quality items. Some of the boxes had odd markings on it, but other than that the toys themselves were fine.
Nice place to go to save time and hassle from the crowds and size of larger toy stores, and I'm always for supporting a green-friendly business.
SUCH a cute store. they are so helpful. their products are always very high quality. and the new assistant manager is super sweet, frances or something, she helped my find the PERFECT gift for my cousin.
great place.
This is a cute and quaint little toy store---a little gem on Solano! A while back I bought my nephew a plastic marble contraption that has ramps and wheels and a motorized pulley....he just loves it! He was mesmerized and played with it for hours. I hope someone in my family has a little girl because there were lots of cute dolls and dollhouses in this shop. I can't wait to go back!
What a fabulous toy store! Top quality toys, totally reasonable prices, and so much fun stuff! And its so well organized... there are sections for baby toys, haba rattles and cirque de soleil mobiles, a section for bath toys with gorgeous boats and squirting things, a musical instruments section, a crafts section, a cheap stuff section... and in the other half of the store, there is wooden train sets, rocket lauchers, dolls and doll house furniture, wagons... I could go on on. Their stuffed animals are fabulous. And they carry some fabulous brands of puppets... and have a whole section of monkey stuffed animals including a $15.99 sock monkey. I will definitely be back for more toy goodness here. :)
Cute little store! nice addition to Solano and it got better when it flopped spots with Sweet Potatoes and got the larger space! Nice selection of dolls and doll accessories. I wish it had more boy's toys and toys for older kids. I found the toys were more for the younger elementary school group.
