Review from Jake K.
Ok, fast food is bad for you. But going to bed drunk with an empty stomach is worse. Five Guys to the rescue!
After our annual Monte Carlo party, I was foraging for something to eat before taking a cab home and, much like the aura Harold and Kumar had around the White Castle when they finally arrived, Five Guys was glowing and beaconing to me.
Unfortunately, walking in, I was greeted by a cacophony of noise with the Georgetown climber mating call of, "oh my, I think I had to much to drink *hee hee hee*" heard occasionally in the distance.
I ended up ordered a grilled cheese with bacon, by far a solid choice, and was united with my anti-hangover super sandwich a few minutes later. I can't complain - it hit the spot and I was able to jump in a cab back to the comforts of NOVA shortly thereafter.
Get your gut bomb here after Smithpoint - it'll make you regret it (in that naughty, yet satisfied way) in the morning like most of those errant hook ups that happen in this town. -

Being a California transplant and missing my In-N-Out Burger, this is the closest alternative when that craving-for-the-greasiest-oosiest-highest-choleste rol-thing-on-the-planet hits.
I work right around the corner, so this location gets my business for my monthly indulgences.
I actually prefer the more extensive topping list that Five Guys has, and the only reason that they arent getting a five star from me is that twice they forget my grilled mushrooms.
I do wish they had a mini-fry serving...even at my most gluttonous I can not finish an order of their fries and I hate to throw food away. -

My theory is that Five Guys is in business because people are so bored with McDonald's that they're looking for any nostalgic alternative, even if the food is no better, or even worse.
This location has the standard Five Guys food: bland frozen beef patty on a soggy bun, served with greasy floppy fries that would shame a middle school cafeteria. To make the burger actually taste like something, you can get it with lots of toppings, resulting in a sort of 1950s style beef salad oozing out of the foil wrapper.
In addition this particular location is cramped, usually dirty, and made more depressing by the dark bar interior that reminds you that once there may have been a business here that had style.
Not a reflection on the staff, by the way -- everyone was friendly and service was quick. -

You don't have to be a d*ck about it, OK!!!
What I call "early lunch," you call being a "fat pig."
Either way, three years in prison taught me two things:
1) Hep C, IS in fact contagious, despite what Jimmy "promised"
and
2) To have a thick skin. Literally. Toothbrush shanks are a mawwwfcuker. But I also learnt that lesson figuratively, so "I'm rubber, you're glue. What bounces off me sticks to you!"
Your insensitive insults aside, Five Guys delivers delicious food each and every time. I appreciate that they keep it simple - burgers, dogs and fries - and do it VERY well. It takes about 5-10 minutes to get through the line during the lunch hour rush and the same amount to get your food.
Their portions are LARGE. "Regular burgers" are double patties, "little" are singles and are enough to keep me full. Splitting a regular fries works well. Eating a Large Fries on your own would be impressive and would cause me to pray for your coronary arteries.
*drops to knees*
Cholesterol,
hallowed be your power.
LDL be your spear.
Give us each our daily Five Guys,
and forgive our fattiness
for we ourselves try to eat lots of greens.
And lead us not to coronary artery disease.

Our 15 year old -- self-appointed expert of burgers -- gives this place a #2 ranking - just after Mr. Bartleys Burger Cottage in Cambridge. We're from L.A. and we try to find the best burger place in town when we travel. Kids insisted eating here 3 times during our visit and we liked it too.
It was a lesson to our kids to see the staff so enthusiastic and positive when working.
For adults, the grilled mushrooms, onions, jalepenos were terrific. The large fries are LARGE so we over-ordered there.
We also tried Ray's Hellburger and while I like the burger there better, this bun was better and the fries were better than Ray's.
But you can't go wrong with either. Both great places. -

How can anyone walk past five guys...even a block radius of this place...without giving in to the temptation.
I know I cannot. I love their cajun fries...steaming hot, seasoned, and DELISH
oh and their burgers are amazingly juicey as well -

I love their cheeseburger. It's really juicy, meaty and tasty. The buns were toasted lightly, vegetables were fresh, but the fries were not my cup of tea. The fries were drenched in grease and not very appealing.
The establishment is very clean and the staff at this location were very friendly. -

Being from the land of In-n-Out we had to check out the new invader in their own land.
We ordered the cheeseburgers and hamburgers, and Cajun fries.
We all voted that the burgers good, but extremely messy.
The fries were good too. They offer the toppings and selection that In-n-out does not. But over all we are still California girls, loyal to our hometown favorite.
Good luck 5 Guys, it is going to be tough.
Last point, on the door there were signs about Peanuts on the premiums, but I saw none. Not sure what the issue is, but a was looking for the authentic DC experience -

I am a recent convert and have been worshiping at the shrine ever since. Five guys is what DC does well and in a town that isn't known for its cuisine that's saying a lot. Firstly the fries are best consumed piping hot so that you just endure the searing pain as you devour the steaming potatoes which are just slightly crispy and very potatoey. The burgers are made with fresh buns. They are big enough to allow you to sink your teeth into them without interfering with the meat until you are good and ready. The meat patty is juicy and cooked to perfection. I'm making myself hungry writing this in fact. Time to get my fix.

It ain't pretty but it's delicious. This could be the best burger out there.
Very busy at lunch time offering a 100% all natural menu that's very simple:
Burgers
Dogs
Grilled cheese
Frys
"hamberger" are double meat
"little hamburgers" are singles
All the way with the usual plus grilled onions and mushrooms. Loved it. The fries are thick cut and golden brown. I'll take it with Cajun spice thank you. Help yourself to the peanuts but don't go crazy. The food is filling.
I like that they cater to the party croud and are open until 4am on Friday and Saturdays.
Five Guys is making a straight to the point burger with no frills or crazy extras. Order, eat and enjoy. It's that simple. -

Ever been to In-n-Out? Pretty much the East Coast version. Food is very good, and they have one of those cool Cocoa-Cola machines with like 100 flavors of soda/juice. They have lots of free peanuts around place, but you can't throw the shells on the floor. Cajun fries were great, but the meat in the burgers looked a little cheap. No "animal style", but there are different sizes of burgers which is neat. Always seating, and maybe a five minute wait for food after you order.

I love this place! This place is great for lunch, dinner, or really late at night (they close at 4 am on the weekends and midnight(?) on the weekdays). Super-friendly staff MAKES this place, free peanuts, unlimited free toppings on your delicious burger, and bombass fries!
This is my perfect order: Bacon Cheeseburger w/ Lettuce, Tomatoes Grilled Onions, Grilled Mushrooms, Jalapeno Peppers, A-1 Sauce, Bar-B-Q Sauce, Hot Sauce + Regular Cajun Fries
-AWESOME. The regular fries are HUGE, definitely enough for at least 2 people, and the cajun fries are seasoned perfectly. I love to dip the cajun fries in malt vinegar and then dip them in ketchup. SO GOOD!
A lot of people have raved to me about their grilled cheese. I tried it one time, and it was probably the worst grilled cheese I've ever had. It was limp and the cheese tasted like Kraft Singles. Bleh. My George Foreman made a grilled cheese 1000x better. -

This five guys is right in the middle of georgetown. Parking's difficult as is anywhere in GT. It's a couple of blocks north of the mall so we opted to park at the basement for $13 for 2 hours.
Had the baconcheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions plus large fries and a drink for $14. Loads and loads of fries cooked in peanut oil which was quite good especially when you like malt vinegar on your fries. I don't quite taste or recognize the difference if u cook fries in peanut oil except that the fries can get a bit dry inside but soggy out.
We sat at the covered patio which was great. HalfStar for that alone.
Overall it was good. I'd come back here every few weeks if i lived in GT. -

Me: Dad! This burger you're eating....
Dad: *munch, munch* mmmm.... *munch* Yes? What about it?
M: They shut down our beloved Au Pied du Cochon to open another Five Guys!
D: *gulp* Tragic, I'm sure, but what does my burger have to do with anything?
M: Your burger is from that very Five Guys!
D: *munch, munch* Well,*gulp* pumpkin, there's no better time than the present to learn that sometimes sacrifices must be made *bite*, you know **munch munch gulp BELCH**.
M: Why, dad? (Maria pwns some fries)
D: For the common good, Maria. For the common good. *smacks Maria's hand* Get away from my fries! -

My thoughts upon leaving the Bank of America in Georgetown today at 1 PM.
"I'm so hungry... What's even near here? I know there's a Subway... I hate that stupid song. Even though $5 is cheap for a footlong, I refuse to partake in that gimmick. I'll have that song stuck in my head the rest of the day. Five... Five dollar... Five dollar footloooooong. Damnit! I didn't even eat there! What's that over there? There are people even eating outside? But it's so cold! What is that? Five guys!? Yesssss!!"
It was amazing. And a much better option than Subway. Perhaps it wasn't $5, but for less than $10, I'll take it! -

Yes, all Five Guys have great burgers and fries. Duh. This location, however, has BEER. And GOOD beer, on TAP.
I'm used to the mall foodcourt style Five Guys, but this location is amazing. Really pretty wood, stained glass light fixtures, and a bar. Five Guys just went from a great Saturday lunch to an awesome Thursday night dinner. Woo! -

The lowdown: hamburger, cheeseburger, bacon burger - which of the three do you want? The "regular" is not so regular because it has two patties; the "little" has one patty - but it's not exactly all that little! Decent meat, and they make your burger to order.
Two options of boardwalk fries: Cajun (spicy) or plain. Be warned that the Cajun version is spiced with garlic powder, so it'll funk your breath up! -

Great!
If you live in the DMV area you know what Five Guys is about so I'm not going to go on and on about this place.
This location lives up to the Five Guys experience. They deliver solid good food at a reasonable price that will fill you up.
Isn't that what you want from a burger place? If you're looking for something else I'd say you're living in fantasy-land. -

I luv their burgers and fries. You can order as many toppings as you want for no extra charges.
The best fast food burger......
The restaurant in Georgetown is my favorite location...
Luv the food, luv the shopping, university and historical buildings. -
Review from Danny E.
This is basically the In n Out of the east coast with one major difference, the toppings. So you can get your classic delicious cheese burgers and double doubles with mushrooms, bacon, and the such. The fries are pretty decent too.
Free peanuts! People just love this place. Ask Mrs. Obama.Listed in: Burgers!

This Georgetown location of Five Guys is perfect for weekends and late, late nights when you would put practically anything into your body. Sometimes, actually quite often, I just want greasy fries, and Five Guys certainly gets that job done well. I much prefer this place over McD's or anything like that.
But it's not the best place in D.C. to get fries, of course, as they tend to be a little soggy. I love the location of this Five Guys and how cheap it is. I really think they should suck it up and add a veggie burger to their menu though. -

Five Guys -- good burgers but better fries.
The Five Guys chain prides itself on hand made burgers that are freshly made to order. When getting a burger be sure to know that they come in two sizes. All of the regular size burgers are two patties and the little ones are just one patty. One thing to keep in mind at Five Guys is that the burger eating gets messy. Since the patties are all hand made they aren't in the perfect discs that other spots make'm. Also all the fixings are hand cut and placed on the burgers. So when I get my little bacon cheeseburger with tomato, lettuce, onions, relish, mushrooms, ketchup and mustard it can start falling apart as I get half way through the burger.
The fries are the real stars as they provide the fresh off the boardwalk flavor and are fried to perfection. Again you can be sure to order just a regular instead of a large. The reason is when the fry guy is filling up your order he stuffs your cup to the brim puts it in a paper bag and then throws in a couple of more scoops. A small fry can feed two easily and a large can do 4 without batting an eye.
The drinks are free refills and yes there are plenty of peanuts to munch on while you wait. This Five Guys in Georgetown is a recent addition. Other shops can be found in Old Town off of King, Alexandria of North Beaugard and King, Downtown near China Town and in Springfield. They have recently just opened up shop in Philly too. -

I'd give all five of you guys a great big hug and kiss if I could! (I better get a free meal out of it, though). These are obviously great burgers but what really stands out for me are the fries - cooked in 100% peanut oil and yes, the difference between that and canola is there in the taste, and the lightness. Delicious! Love the Georgetown 5G - my favorite location.

Oh snap...I think I'm still full from the Five Guys burger and fries I had last Thursday!
Five Guys is your standard greasy burger joint, but does it perfectly each time. The other day I made the mistake of getting a small fry (non-Cajun, though the Cajun fries are amazing) AND a regular burger (read: double cheese burger) with mushrooms, onions, lettuce, and tomato (all free!). Surprisingly, I didn't have a heart attack.
Although there's not much variety in terms of what you can order on the menu, their are endless combinations to the items already listed. Try a bacon double cheeseburger with the works, or a grilled cheese with tomato and fries with a side of malt vinegar.
They used to serve beer at this location, but have since gotten rid of it. Honestly, though, that's probably a good thing, considering the number of drunken Georgetowners that wander in after hours. With a great burger place like this open til 4 am, Five Guys is the Jumbo Slice/Julia's of Georgetown, and much more satisfying! -
Review from Alicia G.
I don't come here often, but I'm never disappointed when I do. My burger was very tasty and the fries were great. My lunch was only slightly disruptive by the very loud screaming child at the other end of the room.
Bacon cheeseburger with fried onions and bbq sauce, fries un-seasoned. I didn't have any gum on hand so I didn't want the cajun fries breath. It was a no regrets, gluttonous lunch.
I still stand by my Z-Burger review - I think they're both quality burgers/fries/establishments - but I will probably go to Z-Burger more often due to the fact that it's closer to my apartment than Five Guys.Listed in: Burgers worth sinking your…

Its hard for me to admit that I want to give this place 5+ stars because I am from California and a loyal fan of In N Out. But really, it was amazing. I feel I would be doing a disservice to In N Out if I attempted to compare the two, as many East/West coast rivals seem to do, because both places are truly fantastic in their own way.
I didn't really know what to expect, but I knew I had high hopes coming into my meal at Five Guys. On the advice from my friend, I ordered the regular cheeseburger, which came with mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, fried onions, sauteed mushrooms (easily the most amazing addition to a standard fast food restaurant burger I have ever had), and I also added jalapeno peppers (at no extra cost, LOVE the topping selection). Besides the large variety of toppings available and standard, I think the biggest surprise/delight was the discovery than they hand form their burger patties, and each regular hamburger/cheeseburger comes with 2 very delicious patties. Now you know thats fresh when they are hand formed! Also split some cajun fries with my friend which were also amazing. And on Saturday the potatoes came from Teton, Idaho (according to the sign - again a great sign of freshness).
LOVED LOVED LOVED five guys. This is going to have to be a DC trip tradition for me from now on. -

This particular Five Guys location earns the lowest grades for cleanliness and appearance. The floor is consistently slippery with grease, there is food and other debris left on the table by previous, irresponsible customers, there is apparently no AC in the Spring and Summer and the bahtroom is just disgusting.
Most other Five Guys are barely above this level, but this one is the worst.
The staff is overworked and underpaid and goes from inattentive to hostile.
The burger itself is greasy, bland and flavorless. Sometimes it is overcooked. The bread is soggy and the entire thing is wrapped hastily in an aluminum foil wrapping by greasy hands. If you allow the burger to remain in the wrapping for more than 5 minutes, the bread will being to stew and become even more soggy.
The french fries are inedible ... they leave the skin on, and the wedges are big enough that you get more of the gritty potato-y taste and less of the crisp, recently fried taste. And they are too salty. -
Review from Peter C.
First time having Five Guys and I gotta say I was a bit overwhelmed at first with the number of options you can have with your burgers. The food was decent but the fries were sooo greasy. You see the bag just soaking up all the oil from the fries. If you like to customize your own burgers, this is the place to do it as it gives you a vast selection of toppings and condiments.

Everyone knows how good this stuff is, but the 5G just blew my mind yesterday, again! I wasn't that hungry, so I opted for the Grilled Cheese. I thought I'd go buck wild and add tomato to it (I know, I know -- crazy, right?!).
That sandwich was gone in under a minute. SO tasty! I actually had to go order another because I just had to have one. I felt like a two-pack-a-day smoker who finds a crate of cigs after being stuck on a desert isle for a year.
But there was one problem: the thing took over 10 minutes to make the first time and over 15 the second time. There were only about 2 other orders in at each time. Why does it take that long to make a grilled cheese? I guess my patience shrinks when the food is that good....
PS: My buddy says that Five Guys just signed a deal to open like 5000 franchises across the country. Those Five Guys must be pretty rich right now. Five Guys: If you are reading this right now, is there any chance you want to adopt another son? I am available for a small fee...Listed in: Eat Me

Best tasting burgers period! Fries are damn good too! Especially with malt vinegar! I went here for the first time in January and I cant wait to go back! I love that after you order, you sit at your table and snack on peanuts! After eating about a million peanuts your food is ready and you leave very happy and full! Love it here!
Update: I did go back! And oh was I excited to come back to Five Guys! I saved up my appetite and ate like there was no tomorrow here and my tummy was very happy I did. This is a guilty pleasure for me. I love everything about Five Guys, I cant wait to sink my teeth into another one of their burgers again! Yumo!Listed in: Top Restaurants

Over-rated! Clap, clap, clap clap clap.
Seriously, what's the deal? Why should I fork over $7 for a soggy, mediocre burger and some soggy fries?
Five Guys could be a great burger joint. As it stands now, it survives on hype and location. -

Here's what I love about this place: I can go with my meat-eating husband (I don't eat red meat) and we're both happy with our food. I get the grilled cheese- which is small and delicious in its simplicity (soft white bread, sharp cheddar cheese), he gets the burger (toppings are free) and we share some (amazing) fries. If you're doing DC on a budget, or if you're just scouting out cheap eats, this is a good one to add to your rotation - sure, it's not the healthiest, but the two of us ate happily for $11.

mmmmm...good! If there's one thing I miss about DC, it's Five Guys.
an Ode to the fabulous burgers...
oh you so greasy and juicy!
with mushrooms on top
sweet ketchup and relish
and onions
big, plump, and meaty - just how i like you!
I miss the burgers at Five Guys. And where else can you get peanuts to eat while you wait, throwing the shells into your own bucket on the table? And 80s music to top it off - it is Georgetown, after all. (for those of you who haven't gone to the bars in Gtown, that's all they play...)
And I'll admit, I didn't realize this place was a chain at first, b/c the Five Guys in Georgetown looks authentic, and non-chain-like. (But, just b/c you're a chain restaurant Five Guys, it doesn't mean i'll stop liking you. that's just shallow.)
p.s. for the Californians in the audience... as much as it pains me to say this (since I grew up with In-N-out burgers whilst visiting cousins in SoCal), I have to admit that I prefer the burgers at Five Guys to those at In-N-out (even when made animal style)... I'm sorry In-N-out. (though I still visit you when I'm in Cali...) -

Well, I've already reviewed the Five Guys in Columbia Heights, so we know what I think of the burgers (amazing) but now that I live in Georgetown, this is my closest Five Guys. The great thing about this particular location is that they're open til like 4am on the weekends. Five Guys is the best of any drunk food because it's good when sober too!
The seating options are great with this Five Guys but the problem is that it's always crazy crowded. Especially at midnight on a Saturday. The cashiers seem to be half-asleep (though I can't blame them for dealing with a bunch of drunk preps trolling around Wisconsin Avenue) and the service a tad slow. However, Five Guys is my burger of choice, so I'll wait as long as it takes! -

Oh so delicious hamburgers and cajun fries. Couldn't ask for anything better!
I like how when you go in, you can get cans of peanuts, eat them, and throw the shells on the floor. Well, I'm not sure if you're really allowed to, but I see them everywhere, so I gotta join in.
Then after littering the floors, I stand patiently in the ridiculously long lines and order wonderfully fresh burgers with everything on it...lots of sauce, and of course, the cajun fries.
I try to find a place to sit although most of the seats are already taken. The only ones that are vacant are the ones with sauce smeared all over the tables and chairs. But I don't care. I NEED THAT BURGER!
Upon completion of my burger, I have by then racked up a good dry cleaning bill, but am always 100% satisfied with my greasy, yummy burger and fries. -

Heyloooo, who doesn't know that Five Guys have this awesome delicious cheap yet a lot of fries??
Tried the burger once, not really a big fan of burger tho some people said the burger is one of the best, but meh, it's an OK for me, all burgers taste the same on my mouth.
I give up on meat a while ago, so I will definitely go for Five Guys for their Fries, definitely. -
