1 review for Fitton Center For Creative Arts
I was a ridiculously un-athletic child. This fact forced my mom into getting creative and finding an alternative summer activity for me.
The Fitton Center in Hamilton is where I spent quite a few summer days learning about art (both visual and performing) in fun classes with engaging teachers.
The first class I remember taking at Fitton was a pastel class, it was a few weeks long during the summer and I learned how to use pastels (it's an interesting medium if you've never tried them, really easy to use and shade with) and the basics of drawing. I still have a really impressive toucan portrait that I created in this class...I could never re-create something now that is as amazing as that picture, which is really unfortunate considering I was about nine years old when I did it.
After awhile I got bored with creating art and decided to turn my dramatics into something useful; I joined a theater workshop and ended up playing the Queen in Sleeping Beauty. Acting definitely channeled my excess childhood energy...note to parents with overly dramatic kids, it can be turned to a positive trait here!
This summer it appears that the Fitton Center isn't offering any performance art workshops but there are plenty of visual arts, photography, and dance classes open to children and adults alike. Costs for sessions usually ranges between $80 and $150, depending on what you want to do. I'm considering Belly Dancing, personally...
