4 reviews for Fitness Point Health Club
A workout at Fitness Point is more like an obstacle course:
First, there is the treadmill-hop, where you bounce from one treadmill to the next, searching for one that is willing to turn on.
Then there is the yoga mat dash, which involves trying to claim a scrap of floor space big enough to fit your yoga mat in the way-overcrowded classroom.
Finally there is the locker room walk of horror, where you try not to be totally creeped out by the cavernous, filthy basement/ladies changing room.
In all seriousness, for 200 bucks a year, I'm willing to put up with the poorly maintained equipment, gross and creepy locker room and even the owners damn dog, which goes ballistic whenever another dog walks by outside. But if you're looking for anything more that bare-bones facilities, you'd be wise to jog right past Fitness Point.
I really thought I had already written a review on this place, but alas I cannot seem to locate it...
This place is a serious love hate relationship.
Love:
1. Plenty of space to stretch upstairs in the classroom (if available) or downstairs by the locker rooms or in the unfinished boxing room.
2. Quiet, neighborhoodly feel. You kinda know everyone there (at least come to recognize them)
3. Really close (to me, 3 blocks).
4. Relatively affordable (I signed up for $200 for 14 months)
5. Free classes (if that's your thing)
Hate:
1. DIRTY.
2. Machines NOT taken care off. Rusting/unlubricated/broken
3. 7/10 treadmills never work.
4. DIRTY.
5. UNCLEAN.
Did I miss anything?
I'll be honest. I kinda liked going here. But I knew no better. It had everything I needed (for the most part) and when I went I almost never had an issue getting one of the three working treadmills. Then someone came along.
That someone was Planet Fitness (see my review on it!!). I was love struck by their brand new, well maintained weights/machines/cardio machines. The cleanliness was awe-inspiring. The staff were PRESENT and ATTENTIVE (hello Fitness Point, take a hint...). And the price at the time was unbeatable by ANYTHING in New York. Like, it's almost more expensive to NOT go to the gym. Seriously.
Fitness Point: It was a good/bad year we spent together. You did manage to kick start my gym habit and get me into reasonable shape! But now it is time to move onward and upward. I can't say I'll miss you. But it was good. bad. DAMN IT GOODBYE!!!
: )
I've been going to this gym for about 10 months. It has all the basic equipment: treadmill, elliptical, stair master, free weights, benches, etc. The place is pretty run down and the cardio machines have a 50/50 chance at running but it has all the stuff you need.
If you don't care about decor and just wanna work out, go here. If not, check the gym on Broadway and 31st street (anyone know the name?). One year price for me was $225.
hassle free, harassment free.
i paid $199 plus tax for 1 year - good for a student like me.
don't be fooled by the 4 stars though - everything is old and a bit dirty. but i still really like this gym because everything i need is there. they even have classes, although i've never been to one.
the only thing that really disappointed me was when i found out they didn't have an outer thigh machine. they have an inner thigh machine however. but how could they forget about the outer thighs?!
