I ordered the crab louie. Crab was cooked perfectly and very very fresh! The salad base was kind of bland after awhile. I wished more hard boiled eggs would be added for some flavor. Otherwise you're just getting some crab on a plate of salad with dressing. The dressing had great flavor though. I was impressed.
I'd probably order something else the next time I went because the salad got very plain after a while, but I would definitely come back to this restaurant.
It's cash or check only, and getting their a little early is best so you are the first in line! -

Crab roll... If you're ordering the crab roll, you're ordering the right thing on the menu! Crab meat is out-of-the-sea fresh and bountiful, soaked in buttery goodness! Hmmm
Other items I tried are not that impressive. Chowder soup is disappointingly watery... I'd go back to this restaurant, but only for one thing... the crab roll! -

Often, we take the places that we enjoy the most for granted, and Fish is definitely one of those places. It is without a doubt one of my favorite restaurants in the SF Bay Area, and every time I'm across the bay I make a point to stop by for lunch or dinner.
Almost everything I've had there exceeded my expectation, but my go to items are: fish tacos, grilled not fried tilapia, ceviche and of course, the crab rolls.
The only downside is that depending on when you go ... and the weather, the wait can be quite long (sometimes over an hour). However, the staff is always courteous and friendly, and the scenery and the view across the bay can't be beat! -

It's delightful to sit outside, in a Sausalito Marina and nosh on the yummies at Fish! Also delightful is eating sustainable seafood, sip a selection of wine and beers, and try out novel seafood dishes. I enjoyed sitting outside, among the boats, happy people, and seagulls. I tried the Fish Parfait, which consisted of: A tall parfait glass layered with fresh Dungeness crab, chives, avocado crema, red pepper jelly, watercress and ruby red grapefruit. They have a daily special, a kids menu, lots of yummy entree options, coffees and teas, and an environment made for romance!
I believe it is cash only, the line is sometimes long (but moves quickly), and there is plenty of parking. It can be a little cold/windy if you get cold easily, so bring a coat!
It really is a delightful place!! -

Some places just get it - Fish. is one of those places.
Don't take my word for it, though, go and see the line of hungry hikers, bikers and foodies spilling out of the restaurant for yourself, and you'll realize that there's something special about this place. Similar to San Francisco's Swan Oyster Depot or even a Pink's Hot Dogs (for all you LA people), Fish. offers that elusive combination of restaurant qualities that makes people just not care about waiting in line.
Fish. is discretely tucked away in a cozy Sausalito Marina and makes for the perfect way to spend an afternoon after a morning of [insert your choice of northern California yuppie outdoor activity]. The menu features an array of seafood inspired classics and well-executed twists resulting in the high class problem of having to choose from an assortment of amazing options. Fortunately, I was able to come to a decision just in time to place my order, but it took about 10 minutes of agonizing between five or so different options before I was able to hone in on my selections.
Here's what I went with:
1) Fish ceviche
2) Tuna and white bean salad
3) Dozen raw oysters
In short, all were absolutely amazing with a just-out-of-the-sea freshness and hearty portions. Really hard to pick a favorite, but the oysters were pretty phenomenal (thanks to Hog Island). Not much else to say other than get out and try it because you will not be disappointed. -

I happen to love this place and hadn't eaten there in a while. It was a quite sunny Thursday and I brought a friend from Napa who had never dined here before. We both got the delicious portugese chowder him a bowl myself a cup. We also shared the special Shrimp Appetizer which I would highly recommend it is served on 2 sticky rice patties with a radish and cabage slaw seasoned with rice vinegar topped each with 2 cooked shrimp. The sauce on the shrimp was amazing and it was a delicious meal. We sat on the deck and enjoyed ourselves so much.
The food is always wonderful and the service was nice too. My only suggestion to the management would be that they should automactically offer bread with this type of soup and appetizer. With the prices you charge a little bread can't break your bank. We were only only given the mini chowder crackers. Bread would of been a nice touch to dip in the warm soup and help to eat all the delicious sauce on the shrimp. -

Best salmon sandwich ever!!!! The clam dip and fish & chips were delectable as well. It's a great spot for a beautiful sunny day. I love that the restaurant serves sustainable seafood, I'm all about supporting businesses with sustainable practices. It's a bit on the pricy side but the food is excellent so well worth it!

What a great find! The fish ceviche was off the hook - so fresh!
Fish and chips - very yummy.
Fish tacos - okay.
Crab tacos appetizer - very good.
Grilled herring - yum!
All their fish is very fresh and the food is awesome. A little on the expensive side, but definitely worth it. Will be back next time I'm in the area. -

Sustainable fish! its great. Hard to find a great location and great food in the same place, add reasonable beer and its easy to over look the price tag and wait if you come durning rush. Dogs allowed on patio too, which looks over richardson bay, very nice. Marin Organic. Also a great place to buy raw fish to go.

I do not know why American are insisting to have fish in a fried manner but I am big fan of grill fish and they have one of the best.
I ordered the "The Daily Grill Fish" and which was good for two people and it was awesome. -

San Francisco, CA
Fish has a wonderful concept and very fresh sustainable fish. However, the food that comes out is incredibly mediocre. I've experienced it several times in the last year, but this review sums it up.
I sat down to lunch today and ordered their cove muscles special and their gulf prawn po boy. My father ordered three sides of roasted potatoes, kale, and white beans.
The muscles came out first, and it was accompanied by two enormous pieces of grilled bread. There were several chunks of pork belly in the broth that were unfortunately chewy, and the broth was completely bland. Before I had managed to spend more than three or four minutes with my muscles, all the other food came out.
The white beans were good, the kale was way too salty, and the potatoes were completely bland (no seasoning at all).
The po boy was ridiculous. Five battered prawns on a huge roll with low quality ham and an abundance of onions. The prawns were cooked sort of okay, and there was no remoulade sauce on the oversized bun either. Too much bread, too many onions, no sauce, and a waste of money.
Fish seems to suffer from portion control. The plates of food are just enormous, but they're also uninspired, boring and executed by a kitchen staff that's just there to throw dishes carelessly together.
Have you ever wondered why so many birds hang around? No, it's not because it's on the water. It's because no one can finish those gargantuan plates of food except the pigeons, seagulls and crows.
Fish needs some culinary direction, cause right now it's just a mess of great ingredients and no rudder. -

I love the name, it says clearly what you get. There is no fluffy, fake fusion just excellant fish. The ambiance is horrible and I should deduct two stars for the lunch room like eating area but I can't because the food here is simply amazing and worth leaving the island for without question. I can't comment on service because we sat at the counter but they are friendly. The ordering process goes slowly but your meal comes out very, very fast.
The $ to happiness ratio is excellant!
Crab Cocktail: $16 and worth every penny.
Crab Roll: $25 and almost enough for two people, do try. (What I'm having next time.)
White Chowder: $5 and not that great.
Pasta and Clams: $22 and a ton of clams, wow! This was wonderful, especially with the fresh pasta.
Coffee: $5
TOTAL: $73
Cash only but there is an ATM hidden back and to the left. -
Review from Emilia V.
I'll make this very, very easy.
Get the crab roll, with the side salad. It's amazing and worth the price.
Don't get the white chowder. It's not clam chowder and is runny and cold.
That's it. -

Can't say enough good things about this place: brilliant food, beer on tap, beautiful setting alongside the harbor. And the fact that sales tax and tip is included, who could ask for more?! A regular weekend haunt for us, really a top spot for a bite...

My boyfriend and I were in the are for the holiday and craving seafood. Found Fish. on Yelp and decided to try it out.
Since there is no table service AND that it was lunchtime, we had quite a long wait to just order our food. They only had two registers and one woman had to keep leaving to help in the kitchen making the whole ordering process go even slower.
However, once we ordered, out food was out in about 10 minutes! We had the crab roll and the fish and chips. The roll's bread was abit buttery, but it was filled with super yummy crab meat! The fish and chips were good as well, but the batter kept coming off the fish. Nevertheless it was pretty tasty!
It's hard to justify such a long wait time at any restaurant though. The food was good, but there's so many other great seafood places, we'd probably try some place else next time we are in town. -

Best piece of fish I have ever eaten in a beautiful location.
The lady recommended the whole trout (a risky pick for me not to mention my wife!) but this daily special was amazing. The trout came whole, smoked, with a crispy skin, ( we had never eaten the fish skin before). Served with yummy roast onions and some type of barley with wild mushrooms. After finishing one side, we removed the rib to reveal twice as much fish. Easily this could have fed 4 people for $26.
I recently went back and tried more items. The Portuguese Chowder was an "A", and the New England was very good, though some thought there was too much bacon (What?? ;) The house made children's fish sticks are a good alternative to the pricey Halibut fish and Chips(Though I saw at least 6 orders of F&C leave the kitchen). The Black Cod pasta was good but lacked the Oo's and Ah's of the other dishes. My Oyster Po'Boy was flat, no real flavor in the Oysters and the ham was too thin to show up. The sauce was very tasty. The slaw was surprising good.
Stick to the specials, ask questions and trust the staff to prepare for a not so surprisingly great meal on the North tip of the bay! -

San Francisco, CA
Gorgeous spot right on the water with outdoor, for when it's sunny, and indoor seating, for when it's SF weather. Large projector screen for big games. Delicious food and large beer selection. The Saigon salmon sandwich was delicious and HUGE. Same with the fish and chips and clam chowder. Prices are steep but considering all their fish is sustainably sourced, you're buying karma points with your meal.
The only negative is that there can be quite a line at peak hours. This is in large part due to the lengthy conversation the employees behind the register partake in with each customer. It's a nice, laid back personable idea, but when you waited an hour for dinner and were a bit on the hungry side to begin with...this feels unnecessary.
Great for kids who like to run around, but good for parents who like good food. The grilled cheese some kiddos were eating looked like something I would order on a cold day with a bowl of tomato soup. mmmm -
Review from Jenna F.
I've wanted to try this place for some time now...boy was it worth the wait. I came for dinner - arrived around 5 to find out that the kitchen doesn't open for dinner until 5:30. No bother - they have some amazing beers on draft. There was a fire roaring in the potbelly stove in the corner. So we took a seat at the bar top. My personal beer favorites include Scrimshaw and Weissbier. They had Lagunitas Little Sumpin' (in the bottle) on special as well. Beer is very reasonable - $5 a pint.
To my surprise, people starting lining up around 5:10...the line got LONG. Lucky for us, since we were sitting at the bar, one of the servers took our order for us, so we didn't have to wait in line - HUGE perk! If you can snag a seat at the bar, you really should.
The menu - the items served are in season and sustainably harvested. So you won't find things that are out of season, but not to worry - there are plenty of delicious items to choose from! We started with a cup of the Portuguese red clam chowder - it was wonderful. Perfectly seasoned with large chunks of sausage and clam, and topped with local Sausalito watercress. We also got a cup of the ceviche. The ceviche was definitely the highlight of the meal. I would come back to this place for the ceviche alone, so give it a try! It was a heaping serving, the fish was very fresh, lots of cilantro and avocado spread throughout, and not over citrusy. Hands down the best ceviche I've ever had. Also, the tortilla chips it was served with were also great - not too salty, fresh, warm, and thick.
For our main courses, I ordered the Alaskan halibut fish and chips, and got the wedge cut fries. Everything was amazing - down to the tartar sauce. My fiancé had a tuna and white bean salad, which was surprisingly filling and equally as delicious as my fish and chips, although it was much lighter. The meal was balanced, flavorful, fresh...this is fine dining without all the stuffiness. Great service and fun atmosphere too. They had college football playing on the large screen TV. For how fresh and wonderful the meal was, it was very fairly priced. With 3 beers, two appetizers, and two entrees, we were out the door for $70 - not bad at all! Not to mention that the portions were so large, we got dinner that night AND lunch the next day out of the meal. We are now huge Fish. fans, and we will definitely be back! -

Hercules, CA
A solid 4-stars in my book. Admittedly, this is the best fish & chips I've ever had! The salmon sandwich was not half bad either! But for $50 for 2 people... It's pretty damn expensive for what it is. I would easily downgrade this to a 2-star if it wasn't for the good food and nice view of the pier. But $23 for fish & chips is a bit steep even though it is "the best" I've had.
The atmosphere is a bit informal for these prices as well. Picnic tables outside pretty much, but its nice for a lunch date. Despite the high prices, I'm a fan of this place and will definitely be back. -

I was there on a very busy day, it was challenging finding a seat. Food is great, grossly overpriced, WAY overpriced. Got to love them as it's CASH ONLY! lunch for 4 people $110...nice! Fish & Chips were truly well prepared. Would i go back...i don't think so...or maybe once more to eat another Crab Roll which was seriously delicious.

Two words: Crab Roll. Get one. You won't be disappointed. Really.
And oh yeah, cute casual spot, friendly staff, and cozy decor. Nice. -

Delicious, delicious, delicious. The crab roll was amazing, very fresh crab in between two buttery bread, with some perfectly crispy fries.
So how does this work? 1. Bring cash. 2. Wait in line and put in your order. 3. Have a friend table hawk or be prepared to sit outside. 4. Fill waters at the water station and get utensils. 5. Wait for delicious food. 6. Eat.
This place is a bit pricey. The crab roll is $25 and the clam chowder (very fresh, but a thinner chowder) is $9.
After that...get some ice cream. -

I have such mixed feelings about this place! Yeah, the food is GREAT, and the menu is awesome, but I haaaaaate having to wait so long in line to order, and you can end up waiting a long time for a table as well! This is the kind of place where you wait to order, and then get a number and find a table. Some people get tables before they order (I'm totally against this), so people with their food sometimes have no where to sit. It's also pretty expensive.. and parking can suck.
That aside, I love this place. It is right on the water, so there is a beautiful view with outside seating. I definitely recommend getting their whole fish specials. Sometimes I get a fish on a bed of salad (delicious and healthy), with a side of the brussel sprouts. That's not fish, but it's soooo good. Even with all of the downsides, I'll definitely still be going back. -
Review from Franci G.
Wow. Fish. You are amazing.
Second time eating lunch here, came at a good time around 12 and didn't have a long wait in line for a Saturday. I had to have the crab roll again. It was just so good. The crab meat melts in your mouth and the buttery crisp on the edges roll adds the deliciousness of the whole meal.
Soo much fries I didn't finish it all. We tried the guacamole and chips for our appetizer this time. AHHMAZING. Love love love. So much better than the caramelized carrots we got last time. I didn't like those that much.
Try the rose with your crab roll it pairs well. The husband digs the beer. Comes in a cute mason jar. Shoot even the water here at Fish. tastes good! -
Review from Christopher L.
Los Angeles, CA
To all the people who think this place is overpriced, you must not know what deliciousness their fresh fish is. They are totally a sustainable fish outlet, and only serve the best of the best. So if you don't care where or how good your fish is, go elsewhere. If you want seafood that blows you away, go to fish! Anytime I'm up in the Bay area I have to go there. It is amazing.
They usually have some Super sweet specials, but three of my all time favorites here are 1- the crab roll. Fresh tasty and Real crab on a fresh buttery roll. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Once you've had this, any lesser crab will just not do.
2- Fish and chips. Perfect. Just perfect.
3- clams and pasta. Get it just for the broth alone! But with the giant pile of fresh clams in it, who-wee it's great.
I just always love a place with chalk menu boards because it is different every time. Yes they have their main staples, which rock, but they always have a great mix of freshly caught specials.
My other reasons for loving this place? Let's see, the big screen in the back for Sunday football? Maybe. The large communal picnic tables that force people to act like humans and share space? Possibly. The small tables in front by the fire place? Perhaps. The amazing beer selection? Absolutely.
Go here and try as many things as you can, and if you get a bad dish, blame me. But I don't see it happening. -
Review from Susan G.
Sausalito, CA
One word: Overpriced.
Have never understood the appeal of this place. There are many restaurants where one can have fresh fish for $30 or more. And for those prices, other restaurants offer the amazing amenity of - get this! -- table service. Not at Fish. One waits in line to order, sits at uncomfortable picnic-style, community benches, and eventually someone drops off your order. You want more food? Back to the line you go, which can be quite a wait during busy periods. You want water? Get it yourself. You want pretty much anything else? You guessed it: Get it yourself.
Lunch for two can easily run $60. Dinner is even more. Consider a selection of prices: Salmon sandwich - $23; crab roll - $25; dozen oysters: $35. And although the fish is fresh, the preparation is often disappointing. That crab roll? There is a good amt of crab but it's completely unseasoned and comes on a tasteless bun. And those oysters? The specialty is BBQ style, which I usually love. But the Fish version is not really barbecued. Instead it consists of oysters with an unappealing sauce ladled on top.
Yes, the setting is pretty and it can be nice on pleasant days to sit outside by the water. But in that case, have a glass of wine at Fish, then eat somewhere else. -

Dress in layers cause it can get COLD if ya have to sit outside, not every restaurant is gonna have heat lamps for us ya bunch of cry babies.
They got the Carl's Jr system going here; order at the register, take your number tab, sit your ass down and wait, pretty efficient I thought. Although if the line is long and all you want to order is a beer that would kinda suck.. anyway.
We ordered:
Ceviche: some of thee freshest fish I've ever had, the cocktail was perfectly made and was a perfect starter.
Crab dip: served with homemade style chips, crab was fresh and the sauce it was mixed in was this pinkish creamy -

Quick Tips since I was only here once recently:
+ CASH ONLY
+ Portuguese Red Chowder... Where are the clams??? :(
+ Mango Scallop Snacker thing.. Freshest Scallops!! but wished it was seasoned better instead of relying on the mangoes.
+ THE CRAB ROLL . so tasty. so yummy. Get it get it!
+ so.. so.. expensive :( not like you can expect seafood to be cheap
+ SUSTAINABLE FISH FARMING MAJOR YES
+ Great Quality; you feel healthier just eating it.
If I'm ever in the area again, I definitely need to go come back here because I'm SURE the reviews and media attention = unexplainable hidden treasures in this restaurant. -

NOTE: CASH ONLY!
Sis wanted to get dinner here after a grueling 45 miler around Point Reyes... and that was a good call indeed!
We arrived at the peak of dinner rush hour... line was out the door and believe me, folks were still eating outside even if it was already getting chilly.
I don't remember what the rest of the group (7 of us) got but they happily ate their meals...
My dish... the reason why I'm giving it a 5-star... was the Grilled Alaskan Halibut with polenta and cherry tomatoes... OMG... that was so delicious that even today, my mouth is still watering just thinking about it!
The fish was seasoned well... made right... buttery and flaky and fresh! Couldn't complain! The polenta with tomatoes was by far the best polenta I've had! It was creamy and I think they added cheese b/c it was really tasty! I tried to finish the meal but couldn't do it anymore... ran out of room.
They also have Mexican Coke... much needed after that ride...
Will definitely come back!
PS: Prices are expensive but for my meal... it was well worth it! -

Came here with a friend on a rainy day and shared the crab roll and the clam chowder. Both were super delicious! My only gripe is that the clam chowder is a little watery than I like it but the flavors were really great.
The ambiance is really nice, I can see how it could be really great when it was sunny outside but unfortunately, due to the rain we had to sit inside. :(
Be prepared for lines---we came in at 2 and lines were still out the door at 3.
The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is just cuz it is a tad pricey for the food but its a nice splurge once in awhile! -

South Orange, NJ
Amazing. Simply put. The food is really fantastic. Being right on the water helps, but quite often places fall into the trap that location dictates amazing food, but then still (and I dont know why) decide to serve not-so-fresh seafood. Not here. Here they've got it right. I started with the Portugese Red Clam soup and it was fantastic with the right amount of spice. My wife had the white and that was rather tasty too, although not packed with as much punch but was a nice alternative to thick and creamy chowders that often are diluted in taste and to hide flavor when they're not as fresh.
I went with the fish chips (not the most savory option but for some reason I was craving them) and must say that could possibly be the best I've ever had. Lightly breaded and not greasy at all. And the fish just melted. My wife had the fish tacos and they were out of this world. Our friends we ate with didn't have a bad thing to say about their meals either.
The only negative (and the reason for 4 not 5 stars) is that for a place at that price level (many entrees at or around $20) being 'cash only' is a major drawback. I know they have an ATM in their restaurant, but who wants to pay extra to get their own money. It's definitely worth the money, but the problem is in a day and age where no one carries cash and even fast food chains take cards, you need to keep up with the times or risk losing valuable opportunities. -
Review from Lisa Q.
If you are a restaurant that has dishes north of $20--- you need to accept credit cards.
Seriously.
Even Mission Chinese accepts credit cards. They are in the Mission of SF, you are all classylike on the waters of Sausalito.
At least have a minimum. A two top can easily burn through $100, I don't know about Sausalito but in San Frantown we don't usually carry any more cash on us than that, how are we supposed to tip? Think about the tips! Also, people spend more with plastic.
Anyways, we had the BBQ oysters, 13 for $30+ dollars, they were yummy but it would've been great to have some bread on the side to soak up all of their butter and tomatoey juices.
We also got the fish and chips with the cornmeal breaded marin miyagi oysters. The oysters were good with some lemon sprinkled on top. The fries were crunchy on the outside and melty perfect on the inside. We'd spring for something else next time though. -

The fish is great! The salad was awesome! I ordered a burger and was disappointed in the presentation. Plane cheese burger on ciabatta bread with no dressing or sauce? I guess that's what I get for ordering beef at a fish restaurant! Oh well!
I will definitely go back. I have been there before and the Fish dishes are awesome! If you are not bothered by seagulls and pigeons, this is a great place to eat outside... as long as you dress for the weather! Watching the boats pulls in and out was great for the kids! -

LOVED:
white chowder- light, but packed with flavor
mussels with mustard seed and cream sauce- delicious!!!
crab roll- fresh, high-quality crab tossed in the perfect amount of butter (Thank you Tyler Florence for the recommendation.)
Order the above, and it's five stars! However, some of the mains my family ordered were not quite as spectacular. Their halibut (a special) and pasta with clams were okay. My dad's seabass (daily grill) was my least favorite- simple fish served on top of the biggest bed of pasta. Their pasta is house made though and pretty good.
Great service. Recommend grabbing a table immediately, while someone else stands in line to order because the place gets busy. May be pricey, but their seafood is fresh and delicious so Fish. is worth a visit. -

It's good food, but it's overpriced. Fish and chips were cooked perfectly, but nothing special. The baked oysters were okay. I was expecting more of oysters rockefeller and it was cooked oysters with cocktail sauce on the top.
$36 dollars for those and a drink. Not really worth it. -

I enjoyed the outdoor seating. It was nice. Near the water.
I shared the halibut fish and chips with two other friends. Poor college students, remember? My cousin had clam chowder. Food was okay. We did like the quality.
I also had the carrot cake, but it was just okay too. I think I've had better at the Bally's cafe in Vegas. The box was nice.
My cousin had a chocolate chip cookie. She preferred the cookies from Subway more.
I do remember when I went to the restroom, after washing my hands, I ran out of the door following the girl who was brave enough to open the door handles. She wasn't too happy, but I was glad I got a free ride. I guess if you're serving expensive food, I'd expect more from the restrooms. -

It's great that Fish offers sustainable seafood. So, I gave them 3 stars. Otherwise, they would only rate 2 stars for being way over priced and over rated. I went to Fish a while ago. I thought it was ok. This weekend, I thought I'd given them another try.
We ordered fish and chips. Greasy. The chips were not crisp, but they were good. We also ordered the Louie salad with bay shrimp. I would not call this a Louie salad, but a lettuce, shrimp and egg salad. While the dressing was excellent, there wasn't much to the salad. Where's the tomato, cucumber, asparagus? -

We were well prepared for our visit thanks to fellow Yelpers (cash in-hand, reviewed the menu for prices, etc). As I am on the topic a quick statement in defense of Fish:
Stop the whining. It's the perogative of the restaurant to accept credit cards (or not). I don't agree with it necessarily but they even provide an ATM on-site. Let it go already! Also, you know the prices prior to arrival. If you think it's too expensive than go somewhere else. Likely, if you just think $25 is ridiculous for a Crab Roll they will not make it to your standards at any point. Accept that and move on.
For lunch we went with the standards (Crab Roll and Halibut Fish-n-Chips). The Crab Roll was unbelievable (and I don't even like crab). Very light, just the right amount of butter. Excellent, excellent sandwich (very worthy of 5 stars).
Fish-n-Chips were a bit of a letdown. I understand $23 (it's Halibut verse the Cod standard). Unfortunately, it was a bit soggy and greasy (we were the first customers of the day so perhaps the oil wasn't fully heated up yet??). It was palatable but I was expecting better.
All told, we would return in a heartbeat. If for nothing else than the Crab Roll. Amazing. Loved the experience.
