Define "underwhelming" - yep, Fish Daddy's is what comes to my mind, too.
Everything was *okay* but nothing was good. I can't really say there was anything wrong, but nothing that makes me want to come back - thus the two stars.
If you feel ilke being underwhelmed, and you want to pay money for it, go here.
Quickly here you go, wife wanted to try Fish Daddy's since we had never been so we stopped to eat here a while back. She is a seafood lover, I'm not.
I had trouble finding something I would really like; got them to cook me something fried, fish OK and slaw not so good. The wife ordered shrimp something. She did not like her item, so that means we will most likely never return.
Service was fine, decor fine, plenty of parking, not much of a wait, but seafood was not to my or her taste.
Would I go back? Most likely not.
I stop at Fish Daddy's on the average of once/wk for take out Fish Tacos. You get a lot of food for the money and the fish tacos are above average. They serve the tacos with one small container of an awesome ancho mayo dipping sauce...spicy and tasty. Our usual order is two orders of Fish Tacos and an extra ancho mayo for each order of tacos.
Well, this past week, when I dropped in to place my to go, a new bartender was there (that's where you place the to go's), and she charged me for the extra ancho mayo. I told her that I come here week after week and never get charged, but she said they have changed their pricing on such things. OK, 50 cents is no big deal, but would you expect to pay extra for ketchup? I don't think so.
Anyway, this won't stop me from going back, but it does leave a "bad taste" in my mouth about the nickel and diming they appear to be doing now.
I would agree with other reviewers that the remainder of the menu is average.
My husband and I gone to fish daddy for lunch and he orded Stuffed shrims ,Brocli and corn and we saw two dead maggot and we called the waiter and she felt so bad that she called the Manager 's to this and we thought hey we have not seen this kind of thing before but we left and and didn't come back for a while after like three months we went there two days for lunch and he ordered Brocli in his Menu and fortunatly the same waitress was about to leave the table when my husband looks at the brocli and here is another dead maggot and she was upset that she had waited our table twice with the same issues .This I don't know what to say.Becarful when you go there even the vegetables are not fresh.
Went here with a group of friends. The hostess made sure to keep us updated on our wait time since we had a large party.
We enjoyed the $2.50 margaritas. Typical cheap margaritas. Lots of mix, not so much alcohol, but not bad.
Fondue was a great start. Very creamy and loaded with seafood.
Fish tacos were awesome. Huge portion and for only $6.99! The gumbo side was also very good... although a little on the salty side.
Baked white fish with shrimp, crab stuffing is always a good dish.
Several combo plates were ordered. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their food.
Great value for what you get.
My wife and I stopped by here on the way to Austin and it was the first Fish Daddy's we had ever seen or ate at.
This one seems to have a pretty active bar.
I compare it to a typical cookie cutter like chain, like a modern day Bennigans with a focus on seafood. No chefs here, just cooks trained on how to prepare the same chainwide staple dishes.
I asked if the shrimp was Texas Gulf Coast shrimp and while the waiter told me "I think so", it definitely was not. I know my gulf shrimp, and this is farm grown in China or something. Great texture yet no sweet taste like a real Texas Gulf shrimp.
Overall it seemed a little too expensive for what we got, yet it didn't stop us from trying the new one that opened in College Station a year later. Feel free to see my review of that location on University as well.
Went there for dinner on Labor Day... thought it was pretty nice, especially for a cheap chain restaurant.
Two of the appetizers we had were really good - the Mexican shrimp cocktail and the seafood fondue. The former was shrimp in a sort of pico de gallo, but sweeter and with more sauce. The latter was very creamy and had the aftertaste of some sort of alcohol - quite delicious.
Our three entrees were the baby back ribs, shrimp creole, and bourbon glazed salmon. All were very tasty.
Their cheap $2.50 frozen margaritas say made with fruit, but the amount of fruit is minimal. Nevertheless, they aren't bad, and they are huge, so it's easy to get buzzed cheaply if that's your thing.
If you're looking for a satisfying, tasty, inexpensive place to eat you would be making a good choice coming here.
Love it! I don't care what anyone writes.
It was my birthday dinner and we breezed in at 9:50 p.m. (they close at 10--at least on Tuesday). We had HUGE margaritas for $2.50. I had fried gulf shrimp, others had shrimp creole and stuffed tilapia. We basically cleaned our plates--except for the stuffed fish--the stuffing was a little weird, good but weird. And CHEAP!!! All that, plus a 20% tip was $41 and some change.
The atmosphere and decor was not worth writing home about, but I'll definitely go back for the food.
This is the polar opposite to my birthday lunch.
It reminds me of Pappadeaux, but not as good as Pappadeaux.
I like their grilled salmon. Any grilled or blacken fish tastes good. Don't order any fried shrimp or other fried seafood. None of fried food tastes good there.
Affordable place for seafood. A lot of people there for lunch. I never went there for dinner.
blech. Below average food and service, even for a chain restaurant. Went there with a colleague because it was close to our hotel. Will not return.
I'm surprised at how many mediocre reviews this place has received. For starters, the calamari ranks as one of my all-time favorites and if you've ever had the chicken fingers (I prefer the buffalo flavored), they're amazing. Menu choices are a little mundane, nothing to knock your socks off, but i think the food is satisfying, I enjoy the atmosphere and the wait staff is also pretty good looking :)
The food is avg at best. Its actually weak. You expect much more after you walk in. The place is clean but the food is avg.
You get what you pay for: bland, low quality Sysco seafood. It is a step up in quality and variety from, say, Long John Silvers, but there is nothing worthy of note. The low lighting and simple decor set a surprisingly nice atmosphere for a family restaurant. Unfortunately, this only highlights the food's shortcomings.
