My wife has dined at FCG at Preston Royal a number of times but this weekend is my first time as we dined at the Frankford location.

My wife had trout with a tomatillo sauce and I had amberjack with a tomato cream sauce. Both were seasoned very well and properly cooked. I had red beans and rice as a side and it was very good as was the spinach. My wife's veggie mix was excellent. However her rice was "unusual" in taste. Neither of us could figure out why.

Service was friendly and efficient. I'm sure we will be back...

A great find for people watching what they eat and those who willfully ignore their cardiologists.

On a good day, I'll get plain grilled fish, no butter, no oil, with a side of fresh grilled veggies.

On a bad day, it's the fried shrimp basket with hush puppies and fries.

Either way, the food is consistently good.  The service is fast.  This particular location is always busy, so these days I opt for the Firewheel location near my parents house.  Also, they're opening on Henderson, which is much closer to home.

This Fish City Grill sits along the west side of the Tollway at Frankford. It used to be a part of our steady lunch rotation but has almost slipped off the radar recently. We use to consider it a strong but limited seafood place but it seems that the quality and service have deteriorated a bit. We decided to give it another try this week but unfortunately not much has changed.

Fish Cit riffs off of a common seafood theme here in the metroplex, the Cajun/Creole fried/blackened approach to catfish, shrimp, and crawfish if available. In this vein, Fish City shines most. The blackened catfish I ate the other day was perfectly peppered and melted in my mouth. During crawfish season, Fish City offers the cheapest per pound you can find on those suckers (OK, I guess they are really the suckees) and they are enormous. Even the blackened salmon on the Caesar salad was succulent and flavorful. Lastly I understand that their oyster nachos are amazing but that is not something I will ever try so I can't really comment.

What I will say is that the sides are generally disappointing. The waffle fries always seem like they are days old even 10 minutes after the place opens. The slaw has some weird apple cider thing going on and the rice is downright bland. The Louisiana pot roast is delicious at times but tastes like shoe leather on occasion.

Service is also inconsistent. There have been times where we have the best waitress ever and then we'll be thoroughly ignored on our next visit. Trips on weekends have been awful, with one episode with a server who seemed so hungover that she could barely stand. I think you can draw a direct correlation between the quality of the service and the attendance of the restaurant's owners. If they are present that day, your meal will soar and if they take the day off, you will want to run the other way or at least visit Fuddrucker's or Jason's which are adjacent instead

I have been to Fish City Grill four times and have had a great experience each time.  The first time Crys and I visited, we told the waiter we were first time patrons and he quickly brought us each a sample of both the Cream of Roasted Jalapeno Soup and the Oyster Nachos.  I absolutely loved both!  I had grilled salmon with rice & veggies with a pepperoncini butter, which was a chalkboard special that I really enjoyed.  We had a great server named Kevin and we promised to come back soon.

My second visit to Fish City was when a friend drove up from Houston for a visit.  T. had the crab leg platter and I had another version of the grilled salmon chalkboard special.  This time it was topped with a pineapple coconut butter and just hit the spot.  We also shared an order of the Oyster Nachos.

The third visit bittersweet as Crys and I thoroughly enjoyed our Crab Leg Platters while Jenn was forging her way thru a landmine of LandLocked menu items.  I always feel sort of guilty when a dining companion doesn't like their meal.

Lastly, after going to see Paula Deen Live @ the Music Hall at Fair Park for my birthday... My parents are not Oyster lovers (I'll eat them boiled, fried and even raw)... so I ended up finishing off most of the order of Oyster Nachos.  My slightly off-their-rocker parents though requested a side of salad dressing and ate all the lettuce & pico that garnished the plate.  I had a seafood alfredo pasta chalkboard special, which was even better the next day for leftovers.  They both ordered the Fried Shrimp and enjoyed it.  My dad had the Seafood Gumbo, but admitted that my Cream of Roasted Jalapeno soup was better.

Again.. some day... people will start listening to me :-)

This is probably a mostly worthless review, but I went here with 2 friends who like seafood (I'm STRICTLY a land based food eater), but I figured I could get something non-seafood ish and be ok.

Apparently they do seafood much better than land food. I got Chipotle Chicken - marinated chicken breast sauteed with mushrooms & onions. Topped with crisp bacon & Monterey Jack cheese & smothered in Chipotle BBQ sauce. Which sounded pretty good right? Well I ordered it with no onions, but got them anyway. Normally I'd of just picked them off, but being as my companions both ordered crab legs i figured I had ample time to allow them to correct my meal so I sent it back and asked them to remake it without onions OR BBQ sauce (the sauce wasn't doing it for me either). It came back out correct, but it still was average at best. The only thing that impressed me at this place was the Cream of Roasted Jalapeno Soup that Aimee ordered and I tried - YUM!

My opinion - Go here if you like seafood, but don't bring your non-seafood friends along.

Another great lunch spot. I'm sure it's great at dinner too, but I've only been there for lunch! The honey chipotle shrimp is SO GOOD. They always have a bunch of specials on the board and everything I've tried is amazing. They also have this crabcake burger, which is really tasty, but fell apart like crazy. I have to say, though, that they have the most disgusting cole slaw I've ever tasted. I'm picky about cole slaw though. And potato salad, but that's beside the point. Great place, good atmosphere, and the waiters even wear funny t-shirts.

we go at least twice a month to this place.  It's great food for the price.  The fish specials are always great, but I also like the fish tacos and the red beans and rice.

bonus:  if there is a wait (typically it usually isnt more than 15-20 mins), you can take the buzzer into Borders next door and shop until your table is ready.  (Preston Royal location specific).

This restaurant is tucked away in the Preston Oaks shopping center at Royal and Preston.  We have heard many raves about this spot and after two years of saying "we need to try that place", we finally caved on Saturday night.  I can say with certainty that we will be back.  Apparently, this seafood joint has grown in popularity over the years primarily by word of mouth...so much so that several other locations have sprung up around the metroplex.  We arrived around 8pm (which is late for this neck of the woods) and were greeted with a 30 minute wait.  Some patrons at the bar had waits of up to an hour and a half around 7pm, so we weren't in too bad of shape.  The bar area is nice and we were able to eventually snag a couple seats.  We ordered a bottle of wine and the blue crab stuffed mushrooms.  While we have heard that the oyster nachos are a must, we are not oyster fans, so we went with the other "must".  These mushrooms were delicious.  The tops were filled to the brim with blue crab sprinkled with parmesan, pico de gallo and a jalapeno cream sauce.  So good!!!

When our buzzer went off, we were led to our booth, and this is where the star was deducted.  The hostess did not know whether we needed to settle our tab at the bar and also, no one helped us get the bottle of wine from the bar to the table.  So, after paying out at the bar, we had to carry our wine glasses, water glasses and bottle over to the table while the hostess watched us with amusement.  Isn't that in training 101?  Anyway, our server was great so that was the only downer.

We order two of the specials and split them - the crab stuffed flounder and the tortilla encrusted talapia.  They were both really tasty, but the flounder was the big winner.  It was rich, flaky and they did not skimp on the crab.  The hush puppies and green beans were the side highlights, but the mixed vegatables were a little soggy.  I am not a fan of sun-dried tomatoes, so the sun-dried tomato mashed potatoes were not my favorite but I think sun-dried tomato fans would love them.   All in all, a great seafood joint with reasonable prices and a neighborhood feel.
