Having an assistant to a hygienist is fine. However, why are you polishing my teeth before the hygienist cleans them with their instruments? It seems you are polishing dirty teeth. Very disappointing.

Hi Cynthia! Thank you for your feedback! We completely understand why this seems odd, particularly if you've not had it done this way before. There are actually a few schools of thought on when polishing is most effective & hygienists choose to polish at different points in an appointment, depending on how they were trained in school. But there is actually good research to show the benefits of polishing BEFORE a cleaning, as it helps to clear the biofilm and removes the soft buildup on the teeth. This can allow for a hygienist to get a better sense of the health of a patient's gums & amount of tartar buildup when he or she performs the actual cleaning. You can think of it like "sweeping the floor before you scrub it." If in the future, you'd prefer to have the polishing done at the end, you're more than welcome to express this preference! We're always happy to accommodate!

Totally honest, I wasn't looking forward to going to the dentist during a pandemic. Was thrilled to see that First Choice had an online scheduling tool, and I could see all of the available appointments at once. Even better, there were some cancellations and I got in for a first time appointment within two days.
Despite the current environment, I felt good about the precautions that are in place. You've got to call from the car to check in before entering, stand on opposite sides of the lobby from other patients, traffic flows in one direction, and everybody has on masks (some people even two or three). Overall the office is clean and modern with the latest equipment.
Will was my hygienist and was fantastic. He was incredibly thorough, explained every detail/reasoning behind each step, and kept up good conversation and laughs throughout. Although a short time with the dentist, she was thorough and informative.
I don't know if anybody will ever look forward to the dentist, but this spot made a solid first impression!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

This week I took my 4 year old daughter to First Choice Dental for her first dentist appointment. I couldn't have been happier with the appointment.
To start, they took plenty of time to make sure that they went through all of the tools and things they would be using during the appointment. They definitely knew how to handle younger kids. My daughter had a wonderful time and was excited to come home and make her teeth shiny white.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kevin D.Madison, WI09Feb 9, 2017
I will start by saying that I have not used their dental services. I am an ortho patient and I very much wish someone had written the review I am about to leave before I handed over a pile of money to this company! I did my research before selecting First Choice. I consulted with 7 different ortho clinics in the Madison area. Dr. Cox was actually the most expensive of them all, but he seemed the most highly rated, so I spent the extra money for what I thought would be better care.
Dr. Trent Cox is great, he really is. He is, unfortunately, stuck with some pretty terrible assistants who can not get things right! They have failed at every one of my last three appointments. Yes, three in a row! Luckily, I caught it this time around, having learned my lesson. They have set my treatment back by at least 12 weeks because of their incompetence! That is 3 more months of wearing braces because they don't really care about their jobs or their patients enough to take the time and make sure everything gets done correctly. It is always a rush in, do half the job in as little time as possible, and rush you out the door.
I am stuck with them for the duration, but you are not. Please, heed this advice and select any one of the other fine service providers in the area!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Al P.Baraboo, WI01Sep 26, 2017
Very accommodating and professional. My wife also recently left her dentist and started going here and is extremely happy with her decision to do so.

I brought my 14 year old son in for braces. He had a full set for 2 years. They cost over $3800. He did well then had them taken off at 16. He wore his retainers constantly and we even had to replace them twice. ($800) total. I couldn't understand why his teeth started getting really crooked again and took him to a new dentist for a check up. His wisdom teeth were growing in rapidly and were growing out of the back of his jaw moving crown first into his newly straightened teeth. So we had to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed. (At a cost of $1200), and now the poor kid has to go get yet another full round of braces. This orthodontist First Choice knew from Xrays of the jaw/teeth that this was bound to happen yet didn't bother to tell us to wait, instead they chose to leave out that information and take our money while my son at age 18 has a worse smile than when he started at 14. (This was confirmed from the Doctor who took out the wisdom teeth). We now have to pay for college and don't have a spare $4K sitting around for additional cosmetic dentistry and his max orthodontics insurance for life has been used. WHAT A RIP-OFF!
