Ok, let me first say that I had to triple check that I had the correct place because at the time of writing this, the Fireside Grille averaged 3 stars...which unfortunately would have probably kept me from checking this place out, however, we came here as a last second decision.  That said, I don't know what most of the other Yelpers are complaining about, unless we got very lucky.  Maybe if I came back a few times I would be inclined to round down, but after an amazing meal, I will round my 4.5 stars up to 5.

    A few things:
-Yes this is an old-school-ish place.  The vibe reminds me of the 70's and 80's, but not in a bad way.  Keep in mind I am in my mid 30's, so I am not old, but frankly I can't stand national chains and the Bugaboo Creeking-ing of America.  This place is fairly basic. Nice, dark wood throughout; simple but comfortable decor with some photos of old Boston in the entrance.  We ate on the pub side, and I loved it for what it was-comfortable, unpretentious but relaxing.  They didn't try to squeeze in too many tables like most places seem to do these days.  The fireplace itself is large and adds a lot too the room.  Just for the vibe I would go back, and mind you I wasn't even drinking...if I was I would have loved it even more.

-Yeah, the menu is not for vegetarians.  They should work on that by adding an extra entree, but in their defense, most people that go here aren't looking for salads I would bet...They are looking for dead cow I would wager or something from the sea.  Frankly if I wanted a salad, I would go someplace else...which is not to say they don't make a good salad, but I would probably never go for something like that at a place like this.  It's like going to a cocktail lounge and ordering a PBR.

So Annnnnyway...we ordered the crabmeat stuffed mushrooms too start...which were solid, not perfection, but good.  We did decline the cheese on top for an extra $1.00 so that could be a factor.

Oh yeah, the bread was served warm and the butter (honey butter) was like crack cocaine in the early 80's...you know before it got a bad rap...Oh the good ole day's. :)

The Lobster Mac-Cheese wasn't my favorite-but I have had some killer mac-still the g.f. loved it and thought it had a pretty generous helping of lobster.  Maybe I am not the best to ask since I was so enthralled with my entree.

I had the Cajun steak tips with caramelized onions and blue cheese over a bed of rice pilaf.  This is probably one of the top 5 entrees I've had in my entire life! Let me say this - steak tips are not my favorite dish usually, but the caramelized onions and blue cheese meld together to form a joyous union that can only be accurately described as ORGASMIC.  If Jesus came to visit me and said "where should we go to dinner, I feel like steak tips?", this is where I would take him.  Keep in mind now both Jesus and I are huge fans of caramelized onions and blue cheese.

Our waiter Drew was excellent.  Gave us time to decide, checked in with us often but gave us room to enjoy one and others company and our meals.

Overall I would not hesitate to recommend The Fireside Grill to seafood or meat lovers.

I really wanted to like this place.  It's so close to home and I wanted it to be that delicious place the husband and I could go for dinner, for drinks and an app, for brunch....

I've gone twice in the last two weeks.  The first time we decided to go out early on a Saturday night for a drink and an appetizer.  My husband got a beer and the chicken quesadilla appetizer.  I got a diet Pepsi, shrimp cocktail appetizer (3), and a side salad.  First of all, the waitress was clearly ticked off that we weren't ordering tons of food.  The place had many of empty tables and I felt that her attitude was poor. Even so, we tipped her more than 20% so hopefully she feels bad for being such a jerk (but she probably doesn't).

The food...just like Yelp says: Meh.  I've had better.  One of my shrimp still had its vein which is so gross.  The side salad was completely bland and way overpriced for about 3/4 cup of iceberg, a bit of tomato, a couple cucumber slices, and some red onion.

Husband's chicken quesadilla was also Meh.  The tortilla was too soggy, and not crisp.  Came with about 1 Tbsp of pico de gallo - not nearly enough.

Second time I went (sans husband), I ordered the steak tips.  I got broccoli and baked potato for a side.  Not tasty at all and the steak tips were quite chewy.  I don't think I'll go back again...bummer.

If you're local, a steak lover and hail from a large family, then you're already acquainted with the Fireside Grille. If you fit into these categories and are not, then you really should be.

But if you're seeking a more intimate dinner, this is not the restaurant for you. The rooms are generally large and open. The sound carries far too well. The décor ought to fast forward about three decades, yet a certain quaintness abounds which hearkens back to a simpler time.

Sunday brunch is a bargain and a must do for the more gluttonous types.

The lot is large and the location is handy. As many of the patrons who fancy the brunch special should immediately resign their licenses, watch carefully as you traverse the parking areas on Sunday afternoons. There are few more dangerous creatures on Earth than the ancient, stuffed to the gills and on-the Road-Way-Past-Nappy-Time-Cause-I-Can grandparent. So grab Little Jonny's hand when you see gray tufts of hair peeking up over an Oldsmobile's steering wheel as it barrels the wrong way across the parking lot with one blinker flashing slowly in the wrong direction.

    Consider yourself forewarned.

It's true that the restaurant is a time warp to the 80s. But it's also true that their prime rib is large, succulent and always delicious the next day. The latter factoid was reinforced for me this past Friday, as I attended a family gathering in the larger function room. The place was fairly busy and for a party of thirteen on a weekend night, I grudgingly commend the service we received.

Brusque and unfeeling, but speedy enough.

The Fireside Grille offers 36 oz. drafts, so order one to compliment their 24 oz. prime rib. Later, you'll hate me for telling you so - and yourself for listening - but you'll spend about a half hour in food heaven before the diner's remorse sets in.

But seriously, it is mouthwateringly phenomenal. It comes with freshly baked bread and a few sides - as if you'd need them - and it had a moderate amount of fat content. But hey, it's prime rib.

As for the others in my party, I heard various comments regarding the tastiness of a given plate and the outright condemnation of others (apparently, the chicken piccata really really sucks).

Did I care? Uh-uh. Most of their observations were drowned out by the blissful inner quietude and contentedness elicited by the exceptional quality, flavor and consistency of my meal.

I really enjoy visiting the Fireside Grille. The stretch of Route 44 between Taunton and Middleboro has a number of chain casual dining options, but it's really worth the time to drive right past them and head to the Fireside.

It's located right off Route 495 in Middleboro at the rotary of routes 44 and 28. There's plenty of parking and the restaurant is large enough so that there's normally not a long wait, even during busy hours.

As the name suggests, the atmosphere is casual and cozy, if not a little dated. The rooms are open and spacious and seating is available in booths and at smaller tables. The host and wait staff are attentive, knowledgeable and friendly.

The menu consists of simple American fare prepared well. You're greeted with a basket of warm bread and a sweet honey butter that is just indulgent. The menu isn't overly adventurous, but it covers the basics and can easily satisfy the meat-eaters among us. None of the dishes rank as the best I've ever had, but all are significantly better than you'd get at a comparatively priced chain restaurant.

The best value is with their Sunday brunch, which consists of an incredible buffet of breakfast and dinner options and fresh pastries. You can load up on a Western omelette and hash browns on one trip, then enjoy freshly carved turkey and trimmings on another.

All-in-all, the Fireside Grille delivers a terrific dining experience. Good, familiar food in a comfortable setting, served in the company of nice people. Nothing wrong with that on any level.

I grew up on the South Shore in the early 80's, the twilight of the family dining era.  Before the national chains took over.  When going out to eat was an occasion and not simply a matter of convenience.  When kids paid what they weighed.

The Fireside Grille is of that era; maybe not in time, but certainly in spirit.  Nostalgic for when prime rib, seafood casserole, lobster and a turkey dinner were all options on a menu and not sponsored by Jack Daniels or a forced exit through the gift shop?  Do you like dark wood grains, nautical accents, a coatroom and large portions of comfort food?  The Fireside is for you.

Granted, there isn't much here for vegetarians- our first visit explored the flavored stir fries (teriyaki and Thai peanut) and they were both almost too salty to eat.  More recently, we assembled a heart assaulting meal of appetizers: battered, clam shack style onion rings, broccoli and cheese potato skins and spinach and artichoke dip with bread and tortilla chips.  It was glorious, but I still don't feel quite right.

The beer selection is better than it has to be, with local, seasonal offerings like Sam's Winter Lager, Sea Dog Raspberry Wheat, Shipyard Pumpkinhead (served with cinnamon on the pint glass rim that hides its watery complexion),  Wachusett Blueberry and Palm Belgium (sold out at the moment).  Beer is served in 16, 20 and 34 oz. (!!!) options.

MVP:  The homemade honey butter that comes with the free bread.  Absolutely worth a trip.

LVP:  The complete lack of a vegetarian entree.  Any of the following would fit seamlessly onto the menu- butternut squash ravioli in sage butter or alfredo sauce, hearty eggplant parmesan with spaghetti or macaroni and cheese with add-ins.

The Fireside is a throwback somewhere between Teel's Cabin and Christo's.  Expect mid-range prices, crowded dinner parking, early birds and kids.

Went to lunch with my daughter & granddaughter. One got a bowl of clam chowder & the other got a sandwich wrap. I wanted a cup of chowder, but it was made with fish stock, which I'm allergic to. I ended up choosing the baked stuffed lobster. First off, I never get baked stuffed lobster & always opt for boiled, but i decided to try something different. Secondly, you leave the claws on the lobster & just stuff the tail of it. Thirdly, if you advertise a 1 1/2 pound lobster, don't sneak in a chicken lobster on me, cause I ain't a tourist, and this is tourist season, hence, I got screwed out of $29.95 for a tough chicken lobster. Now I know not to go there again. And if your reading this, you now know no to either.

I haven't had lunch or dinner here, but my family had a big group dinner in the back room one afternoon after a funeral. We had about 30 people in the back, and everyone was saying how they felt the two waitresses were quite helpful with so many people in the back.

We had a large spread of cold cuts, cheese, tossed green salad, stuffed shells, and chicken marsala then for dessert, there was some brownies. Everything was delicious. My only complaint would be about the chicken marsala, which was fried chicken in marsala wine sauce with mushrooms. It definitely wouldn't be something I would order or ask for again.

Other than that, everything else was A-OK.

The Fireside Grille is a convenient stop right off the Middleboro rotary.  Easy to get to, this restaurant provides a dimly lit but warm atmosphere.  Inside, you are surrounded by dark wood beams, brick walls, and a large, centered fireplace (to be expected).  Having sat in the lounge on two seperate occasions, I am torn between the experiences I had with each visit.

My first time here was superb.  I arrived with a group of 10 people, were seated promptly, had an attentive wait staff, and genuinely enjoyed my evening there.  Drinks were cheap (between $4 and $7 dollars), appetizers tasty and readily available.  Three hours passed in an instant, the wait staff politely ushering us out.

My last visit on the other hand, was supremely different.  This time, a group of four, waited on by a robot waitress with no personality, squished into a corner booth away from the bar and entertainment.  Drinks remain the same. . . had Chicken Tenders, never again.  They were beyond dry, barbecue sauce side (which took two tries to get) was far too spicy.  Many items on the menu appeared to be far overpriced for what the group received.  Found myself pushing for the meal to be over so as to make our way to the high topped bar stools for a more breathable atmosphere.

On the plus side, both visits landed on Thursday nights, where, in the lounge, an Eric Simon plays acoustic guitar and sings a wide range of vocals spanning country, rock, pop, and oldies genres.  My recommendation:  if you need a relaxed night out for some drinks and entertainment with a group of friends, here is the place to be.

My first visit to the Fireside Grille was this past Saturday night.  We tried to get into Harry's Bar & Grille on the other side of the rotary, but the line was out the door with about a dozen twosomes ahead of us.  The heck with that; we were hungry and wanted tasty and frosty beverages!

I read some decent reviews for Fireside Grille, and the parking lot was jammed when we pulled up.  Upon walking into the restaurant, it wasn't crowded in an "untz-untz" sorta way but more along the lines of, "'Let's go out with the kids, Joe!'" and 'What a good idea, Marge!'"   Even with all of those cars outside, the wait for a table was only about 5 to 10 minutes.  The ambiance and decor is exactly as described by another yelper below:  "the decor is a time warp back to the seventies, though nice seventies decor."

We were seated in a booth near the big fireplace, though I did long for the other side of the restaurant with the bar and live music (a dude with a guitar and amp).  Mister ordered a beer and I got a sangria, though it tasted overly fruity like I should've had it served to me in a Buddha mug.  So long as it fell under the 'tasty frosty beverage' requirement for the evening, I was happy.

For an appetizer, we ordered the crab and shrimp dip, a cheesy, creamy concoction that could've been really good but was missing something from the flavor.  For dinner, I ordered the short ribs from the specials menu.  They were really good, but I wish that they had more saucy stuff on them.  The risotto that came with my entree was savory and filling.  Mister got the prime rib ("very tender").  The soup he ordered should've been renamed "Ye Olde Standard Soup" [a.k.a., any generic broth-based soup you've ever had), and his steak fries were pretty bland; they came without any seasoning. It was a pity that we had no room for dessert since there were several things that looked good (apple crisp? cheesecake? creme de menthe parfait?! DEEP FRIED ICE CREAM?!  darn.).

I will definitely come back here again, but I will hold out for the bar side of the restaurant.

As a friendly piece of advice, watch out for the front door.  It has a slightly-bigger-than-mail-slot-sized window at the top, and you can't see if someone's on the other side.  I almost got smacked on the way in AND and on the way out.  Harrumph!

I wrote this review a while ago. Thought I'd like to still share it.

I've been to the Fireside 4 times. Only because it's my friends favorite restaurant. The first time I went, it was very busy but the service was still good. I ordered rib tips. Chewing the meat was like eating small balls of elastics. Not good at all. My friend suggested I try the Prime rib. To me, It looked under cooked (she ordered medium) and fatty.
I went again a few months later (it's her faaaaaavorite) Again, it's busy but the service was good. I ordered some barbecue chicken. So, the chicken comes to me on a white plate with not even a piece of lettuce to dress it up. I'm not expecting french cuisine plating, but even Chili's makes the food look nice. Eating it was no better. The barbecue sauce was overpowering and the chicken was dry. My friend suggested I get the Prime rib. It's awesome, she said. Still, it looked undercooked and there were stripes of fat barely holding the piece of meat together.
I visit again, and you guessed it, Fireside. Still busy, and good service. I ordered the Lime Glazed salmon, this time. It was the day's special along with the prime rib. The waitress asked me if I'd like the glaze on the side. Isn't the glaze something that is actually cooked on the food? I declined, I order the lime glazed salmon, so I wanted my salmon glazed in lime. The salmon was dry, and the glaze had very little flavor. My friend said, "You really should try the prime rib" She ordered it, and I'm tellin' ya, it's undercooked and streaked with inedible fat. Not my idea of good.
Last time. I decided that I would finally order the prime rib. If it fails this time, I'm not going back. I don't care how much beloved the place is. As usual for a Saturday night, the place is jammin' with a 45 minute wait. The service, once seated is just as good as always. That's one thing I can't complain about. I order the prime rib, it comes with a giant popover which I don't quite get. I barley cracked that puppy. It was huge. I ordered the prime rib medium. It came to me not quite warm, all over pink, and falling apart where the stripes of fat ran through it. The flavor, like the salmon was barely there.
I don't understand why the Fireside is such a popular place. In general, the service is very good but the food is exceedingly bland. When they DO try to flavor it, it's overdone.
Next time I visit my friend, I'm insisting we go elsewhere.

I attended a function here on Sunday, and they served up a brunch buffet.  The service was fine.  The food was kind of middling.  The coffee was weakass.

However, it was loads of fun, and Great Aunt Ethel, who is turning 90, kept us laughing.

Oh, in case you were wondering, the decor is a time warp back to the seventies, though nice seventies decor.

The only time I've been to the fireside, besides my Jr High dance (LOL!) is for Sunday Brunch. Which I must just say is AWESOME. Good variety of food, always good morning desserts to pick from at the end of your lovely brunch BUFFET ... mmm mmm mmm! I always order a glass of pine-apple juice to go with my breakfast buffet brunch! YUM!

Kind of expensive, $13 or $14per person for the buffet but I think its worth it!

I went here for  brunch a couple months ago, ad that is the best time to go.

The food was really good. (it was a brunch buffet), and I'm not a big brunch person. The bacon and eggs were okay. And the sandwich's and smoothies were awesome.

If I can remember correctly, the prices were okay. I think it was like twenty bucks for the brunch buffet.

Have been 4 or 5 times in the past year and have been very pleased.
Large, cozy establishment reminiscent of a lodge. Huge fireplace hence the name, exposed beams, dark wood, etc.....
Good seafood, salads, sandwiches. Nice, grilled rolls are served as an appetizer. Service has always been good.
This building was formerly El Tortitos where I drank as a college degenerate and prior to that The Red Coach Grille where I had my 12th birthday party......good times, good times.

I went to Fireside Grille this past weekend for their Mother's Day brunch buffet.  The Sunday brunch is usually held between 10am and 1pm, the cost ranging from $15.95 for adults and $6.95 to $8.95 for children (price depends on age).  However, as a treat for Mother's Day, the brunch buffet was held from 10am to 4:30pm.  Adults were $21.95 per person, and children were $11.95 to $13.95 each.  For Mother's Day, Fireside offered a Prime Rib Brunch buffet that included tables for breakfast, lunch, and dessert.  With three trips to the buffet lines, I'm sure I got my money's worth.  For my first plate, I focused on the breakfast foods.  My choices included the quartered Belgian waffles, the French toast, bacon (bonus for having chewy bacon and not super crispy), sausage, and hash browns.  They also offered mini muffins, a fruit medley, and scrambled eggs.  I was able to grab a side of strawberries, cinnamon-baked apples, and whipped cream for my waffles and French toast.  For my second plate, I had samplings of the Baked Chicken Supreme, Baked Shells Parmesan, and the sauteed green beans.  I opted to skip the carved prime rib, Shrimp and Scallops Delmonico, the rice pilaf, the garden salad, and the rolls...for no legitimate reason-- I just wasn't in the mood for those things!  (But specifically for the Shrimp and scallops Delmonico, it didn't look to appetizing to me.)

I found the food to be decent for a buffet...You can't really expect fresh and exceptional food from trays that have been sitting out for a long time.  My favorites would include the waffles and French toast from my first two trips to the buffet line.  Although they were not as hot or soft as I'd like them, the taste was still good.  Also, I have to admit that I"m a sucker for fruit, cinnamon, whipped cream, and syrup on my waffles.  The dessert spread was the best to see because there were so many options!  I embarrassed my family by taking a regular meal plate to carry my dessert rather than taking the tiny dessert plates.  I wanted to try a little bit of everything, but I still had to nix a few choices.  I decided upon the flan, the mini lemon meringue pie, a chocolate-covered strawberry, the apple crisp, and the cheesecake with a berry topping.  I know that sounds like a lot, but I promise that I didn't eat all of it.  I had a taste of the flan and cheesecake, but they were lacking in flavor (and maybe sweetness?).  You can't go wrong with chocolate-covered strawberries, and the apple crisp was good (but there wasn't much "crisp" to it).  My favorite was the lemon meringue, just the right tartness and sweetness for me.  It was the only dessert I finished completely, and by then, I was more than stuffed.

My experience with the service here was good.  When we first arrived, I was intimidated by the packed parking lot and the long line going out the door.  Nonetheless, after pushing myself through the crowd, I was able to give my name and claim the reservation we had.  We were seated immediately, and our server came over right away.  Orange juice and coffee come with the brunch, and our waitress made sure to keep our glasses full for the most part.  She was very friendly and brought everything we needed with only a few reminders along the way.

The atmosphere at Fireside matches it's service-- friendly and welcoming.  It is a fairly large establishment that had 2 big dining rooms and a main hallway for waiting.  One of the dining rooms held both diners and the buffet lines.  There is a also a large bar area with plenty of seating.  The restaurant promotes casual dining with a flair.  Fireside is not very close to where I live; so I am not sure if I would return unless in the area.  However, I've heard great things about their food and service, and I'm happy I gave it a try.  It is a nice place for families, and the bar area looks great for a group of friends to catch up with each other.

I was a long time fan of the Grille but over the past year or so, their service and their food has really slipped in quality while it increased in price.  After my last visit where the waiter got the order completely wrong, then disappeared when we asked him to correct it, I won't be returning.  It's a shame - the place used to have really good food!

They always made a great frozen drink......but its sad when they forget to add the liquor!!  I will only drink one drink....due to calories.  So I always looked forward to Fireside to give me the drink I am paying for ...but they let us down last night!!
